• Cache for everybody except staff members.

  I have a django site where I want to stick an "admin bar" along the top of every non-admin page for staff members. It would contain useful things like page editing tools, etc. The problem comes from me using the @cache_page decorator on lots of pages. If a normal user hits a page, the cached version comes up without the admin bar (even for admin users) and if an admin hits the page first, normal users see the admin bar. I could tediously step through the templates, adding regional cache blocks but there are a lot of templates, and life is altogether too short. Ideally, there would be a way of telling the caching to ignore cache get/set requests from admin users... But I don't know how to best implement that. How would you tackle this problem?

• Vbscript - Compare and copy files from folder if newer than destination files

  Hi, I'm trying to design this script that's supposed to be used as a part of a logon script for alot of users. And this script is basically supposed to take a source folder and destination folder as basically just make sure that the destination folder has the exact same content as the source folder. But only copy if the datemodified stamp of the source file is newer than the destination file. I have been thinking out this basic pseudo code, just trying to make sure this is valid and solid basically. Login+Password (Users, Admins) Being able to upload XML-files from Android device Parse this XML into something I can plot. Easy charting. Admin users being able to read all sub-users uploads. Doesn't have to look good. No blog-post. Strictly XML-Charts. I thought about using Wordpress, but I don't know if it's the best idea. I can code, but I don't have to much PHP + MySQL experience. • Thread safety of Matlab engine API

  I have discovered through trial and error that the MATLAB engine function is not completely thread safe. Does anyone know the rules? Discovered through trial and error: On Windows, the connection to MATLAB is via COM, so the COM Apartment threading rules apply. All calls must occur in the same thread, but multiple connections can occur in multiple threads as long as each connection is isolated. From the answers below, it seems that this is not the case on UNIX, where calls can be made from multiple threads as long as the calls are made serially.

• How Easy Is It to Hijack Session Vars on GoDaddy (PHP)

  This article states that If your site is run on a shared Web server, be aware that any session variables can easily be viewed by any other users on the same server. On a larger host like GoDaddy, are there really no protections in place against this? Could it really be that easy? If it is that easy, where are the session vars of the other users on my host so I can check them out? Edit: I didn't believe it, but here's my little program which shows that this is true! I wonder if those are really the same as the value stored in the cookies on the users' machine?

• Migrating from SQL Server to firebird: pro and cons

  I am considering the migration for 4 reasons: 1) SQLSERVER installation is a nightmare, expecially for 1-user software (Even if typically I have 3-20 users, sometimes I sell my software to single users: it is incredible to have troubles installing the DB, while installing the applicatino means copying an exe...). (note my max installation is 100 users, but there is no an upper limit). Software installs in 10 seconds, SQLServer in 1 hour. Firebird installation is much easier. 2) SQLSERVER runs on windows server only 3) My customers have all the express edition 4) i am not using any advanced feature, I am now starting using filestream, but the main reason for this is that Express edition has 4/10GB db size limit So these are all Pros of moving to Firebird. Which are the cons? I can also plan to support both platforms, but this will backfire I fear.

• Silverlight Line Graph with Gradient

  I have a series of points which I will turn into a line on a graph. What I want is to give the area under the graph a gradient fill. It would look somewhat similar to a Bloomberg graph like this; My question really has three parts; First, how should I fill only the area under the graph? Second, how do I fill that with a gradient? Finally, if I have multiple lines on the same graph any area under more than one line should have a greyscale gradient fill, how would you set this up? My biggest problem is deciding on the data structures to use, I could use many multiple sided shapes (One for each line/ data series) and then tell the brush to draw; Transparent if it's not in any shape The colour of one series if it's in one shape (Alpha relative to height to give grad) Black if it's in multiple shapes (Alpha relative to height to give grad) Then I'd draw the shapes' boundaries in white afterwards. • Drupal 6 / Views2 Grid style: whole cells link to nodes

  I have a Users page, which is simply a nicely styled grid (HTML table) of users. I'm displaying a few fields for each one, and both the name and the profile picture have been set to link to the user node. What is the best way to change it so that the whole cell (HTML td) links to the user node? Would you have to use javascript? I've looked into modifying the theme of the view (over-riding the Style output e.g. views-view-grid--users.tpl.php), but cant see an elegant way to get the URL of the user node. And I think you would have to use javascript anyway to turn a whole block element into a link.

  I am currently learning F# and have tried (an extremely) simple example of FizzBuzz. This is my initial attempt: for x in 1..100 do if x % 3 = 0 && x % 5 = 0 then printfn "FizzBuzz" elif x % 3 = 0 then printfn "Fizz" elif x % 5 = 0 then printfn "Buzz" else printfn "%d" x What solutions could be more elegant/simple/better (explaining why) using F# to solve this problem? Note: The FizzBuzz problem is going through the numbers 1 to 100 and every multiple of 3 prints Fizz, every multiple of 5 prints Buzz, every multiple of both 3 AND 5 prints FizzBuzz. • Mysql-how to update the "domain.com" in "[email protected]"

  Hi there, In my database I have a lot of users who've misspelled their e-mail address. This in turn causes my postfix to bounce a lot of mails when sending the newsletter. Forms include (but are not limited to) "yaho.com", "yahho .com" etc. Very annoying! So i have been trying to update those record to the correct value. After executing select email from users where email like '%@yaho%' and email not like '%yahoo%'; and getting the list, I'm stuck because I do not know how to update only the yaho part. I need the username to be left intact. So I thought I would just dump the database and use vim to replace, but I cannot escape the @ symbol.. BTW, how do I select all email addresses written in CAPS? select upper(email) from users; would just transform everything into CAPS, whereas I just needed to find out the already-written-in-CAPS mails.

  I need some help in settingup/installing and configuring nginx LEMP stack on a fresh new VPS i have. The specs of the CentOS 5.7 VPS are 2GB DDR3 ECC RAM(4GB burst), 1 core 1.5Ghz(3Ghz burst) and 100GB RAID 10 storage, unmetered bandwidth @ 100Mpbs all for a whopping $25/month(unbeatable, yeah i know :) Anyways i have followed this LEMP(will also need MySQL and PHP) stack guide on linode http://library.linode.com/lemp-guides/centos-5 but basically what i want is to be able to host multiple website on this webserver after everything is setup. I am used to using DirectAdmin control panel on other server and want to have things setup so i can host multiple websites...mostly wordpress and drupal themes. Lets say 10 websites on this nginx web server. So can someone please help me on what i need to do to take "full" advantage of nginx power and performance, while been able to easily manage these multiple websites (wordpress and drupal themes)?   I've had the need for a multi-threaded data structure that supports these claims: Allows multiple concurrent readers and writers Is sorted Is easy to reason about Fulfilling multiple readers and one writer is a lot easier, but I really would wan't to allow multiple writers. I've been doing research into this area, and I'm aware of ConcurrentSkipList (by Lea based on work by Fraser and Harris) as it's implemented in Java SE 6. I've also implemented my own version of a concurrent Skip List based on A Provably Correct Scalable Concurrent Skip List by Herlihy, Lev, Luchangco and Shavit. These two implementations are developed by people that are light years smarter then me, but I still (somewhat ashamed, because it is amazing work) have to ask the question if these are the two only viable implementations of a concurrent multi reader/writer data structures available today?

  I use Visual Studio .NET to create a Windows-based application. The application includes a form named CForm. CForm contains 15 controls that enable users to set basic configuration options for the application. I design these controls to dynamically adjust when users resize CForm. The controls automatically update their size and position on the form as the form is resized. The initial size of the form should be 650 x 700 pixels. If CForm is resized to be smaller then 500 x 600 pixels, the controls will not be displayed correctly. How I must ensure that users cannot resize CForm to be smaller than 500 x 600 pixels..?

• .Net with single .exe without .NET Framework installation

  I wrote my simple desktop program in C#. I am reluctant to distribute it on the internet because i am not sure if users will go through pain of installing the .Net Framework. My target users are non-tech savvy users. I am very familiar with MFC and I probably can write this program in MFC in a month. MFC is nice because I don't have to worry about distributing other components. It will be one nice single executable. So my real question is this: Is it possible to write .Net app without worrying about distributing .Net Framework?   Hi, I have some troubles defining a query. I have a Product and a Category table. A product can belong to multiple categories and vice versa so there is also a Product-Category table. Now I want to select all products that belong to a certain category. But if the user does not provide a category I want all products. I try to create a query using a join but this results in the product being selected multiple times if it belongs to multiple categories (in the case no specific category is queried). What kind of query do I have to create? Thanks

• What is cached on a client machine when using https.

  I have an application that is working on https for everybody and on http for all but two users. The two users get a JavaScript error when trying to "edit" a page while on http but can edit the page on https. The problem is for occurs for both IE6 and FF3.6 for one of these users. Others have no problem using any browser. I have used Charles Proxy to look at the server response and no request is being made to https when on http and all browser requests return successfully. I have cleared all caches known to me on the clients (browser, jvm). Are http and https caches stored in different locations on the clients computers. Could a cached encrypted file be being read on the unencrypted port.

• codemirror fails when adding </textarea> tag inside it

  I'm using codemirror http://marijn.haverbeke.nl/codemirror/ to let users create their own web templates inside a web application. Codemirror works great, except for the time that users have put a tag inside their source code. When I load that up inside code mirror, it breaks everything in the source code that follows after because it thinks my codemirror text area is closed. I'm using the following way to launch codemirror: CodeMirror.fromTextArea('code') It works great on my existing textarea "code" except when users add inside their templates (in the codemirror textarea). Any help is much appreciated!

• SSRS 2008 Snapshotting Security

  Hi, I'm writing a report that will show data based on the User!UserID built into the SSRS infrastructure. The data is sensitive to the user's department. In addition to these department users, there will be admins that should be able to run for all departments, or have a report parameter to run for a specific department. Ideally, I'd like to use SSRS snapshotting so that users can rerun a report they ran on a previous date. It's important that a user can only view the snapshots he created for his department. My questions are: 1.) Does SSRS snapshotting provide a mechanism to limit viewing snapshots by the user that created them? 2.) Will I need to write two reports, one for the admin and one for the department users? I think I do since there isn't a way to secure report parameters. Thanks!

• Cross-database transactions from one SP

  I need to update multiple databases with a few simple SQL statement. The databases are configurared in SQL using 'Linked Servers', and the SQL versions are mixed (SQL 2008, SQL 2005, and SQL 2000). I intend to write a stored procedure in one of the databases, but I would like to do so using a transaction to make sure that each database gets updated consistently. Which of the following is the most accurate: Will a single BEGIN/COMMIT TRANSACTION work to guarantee that all statements across all databases are successful? Will I need multiple BEGIN TRANSACTIONS for each individual set of commands on a database? Are transactions even supported when updating remote databases? I would need to execute a remote SP with embedded transaction support. Note that I don't care about any kind of cross-database referential integrity; I'm just trying to update multiple databases at the same time from a single stored procedure if possible. Any other suggestions are welcome as well. Thanks!

  Hi, it's an important security issue and I'm sure this should be possible. A simple example: You run a community portal. Users are registered and upload their pictures. Your application gives security rules wenever a picture is allowed to be displayed. For example users must be friends on each sides by the system, in order that you can view someone elses uploaded pictures. Here comes the problem: it is possible that someone crawls the image directories of your server. But you want to protect your users from such attacks. If it's possible to put the binary data of an image directly into the html markup, you can restrict the user access of your image dirs the user and group your web application runs of and pass the image data to your apache user and group directly in the html. The only possible weakness then is the password of the user that your web app runs as. Is there already a possibility? Yours, Joern.

• wordpress user uploads, any solution?

  I need to build a solution which will allow registered users of a Wordpress site upload videos to the server and have them moderated before being published on the site. Failing that, I would like to let users upload their file, then the Admins would check the video is appropriate, upload it to youtube, and manually embed it into a post. This has to look transparent - so I don't want to make the users into contributers. Does anyone know of any plugins or home-made solutions that are available for this? edit: the closest I have found is this http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-video-pack/ but the unknown 3rd party hosting is a deal breaker.
