  • Why is SQLite3 using covering indices instead of the indices I created?

    - by Geoff
    I have an extremely large database (contacts has ~3 billion entries, people has ~280 million entries, and the other tables have a negligible number of entries). Most other queries I've run are really fast. However, I've encountered a more complicated query that's really slow. I'm wondering if there's any way to speed this up. First of all, here is my schema: CREATE TABLE activities (id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, name TEXT NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE contacts ( id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, person1_id INTEGER NOT NULL, person2_id INTEGER NOT NULL, duration REAL NOT NULL, -- hours activity_id INTEGER NOT NULL -- FOREIGN_KEY(person1_id) REFERENCES people(id), -- FOREIGN_KEY(person2_id) REFERENCES people(id) ); CREATE TABLE people ( id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, state_id INTEGER NOT NULL, county_id INTEGER NOT NULL, age INTEGER NOT NULL, gender TEXT NOT NULL, -- M or F income INTEGER NOT NULL -- FOREIGN_KEY(state_id) REFERENCES states(id) ); CREATE TABLE states ( id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, name TEXT NOT NULL, abbreviation TEXT NOT NULL ); CREATE INDEX activities_name_index on activities(name); CREATE INDEX contacts_activity_id_index on contacts(activity_id); CREATE INDEX contacts_duration_index on contacts(duration); CREATE INDEX contacts_person1_id_index on contacts(person1_id); CREATE INDEX contacts_person2_id_index on contacts(person2_id); CREATE INDEX people_age_index on people(age); CREATE INDEX people_county_id_index on people(county_id); CREATE INDEX people_gender_index on people(gender); CREATE INDEX people_income_index on people(income); CREATE INDEX people_state_id_index on people(state_id); CREATE INDEX states_abbreviation_index on states(abbreviation); CREATE INDEX states_name_index on states(name); Note that I've created an index on every column in the database. I don't care about the size of the database; speed is all I care about. Here's an example of a query that, as expected, runs almost instantly: SELECT count(*) FROM people, states WHERE people.state_id=states.id and states.abbreviation='IA'; Here's the troublesome query: SELECT * FROM contacts WHERE rowid IN (SELECT contacts.rowid FROM contacts, people, states WHERE contacts.person1_id=people.id AND people.state_id=states.id AND states.name='Kansas' INTERSECT SELECT contacts.rowid FROM contacts, people, states WHERE contacts.person2_id=people.id AND people.state_id=states.id AND states.name='Missouri'); Now, what I think would happen is that each subquery would use each relevant index I've created to speed this up. However, when I show the query plan, I see this: sqlite> EXPLAIN QUERY PLAN SELECT * FROM contacts WHERE rowid IN (SELECT contacts.rowid FROM contacts, people, states WHERE contacts.person1_id=people.id AND people.state_id=states.id AND states.name='Kansas' INTERSECT SELECT contacts.rowid FROM contacts, people, states WHERE contacts.person2_id=people.id AND people.state_id=states.id AND states.name='Missouri'); 0|0|0|SEARCH TABLE contacts USING INTEGER PRIMARY KEY (rowid=?) (~25 rows) 0|0|0|EXECUTE LIST SUBQUERY 1 2|0|2|SEARCH TABLE states USING COVERING INDEX states_name_index (name=?) (~1 rows) 2|1|1|SEARCH TABLE people USING COVERING INDEX people_state_id_index (state_id=?) (~5569556 rows) 2|2|0|SEARCH TABLE contacts USING COVERING INDEX contacts_person1_id_index (person1_id=?) (~12 rows) 3|0|2|SEARCH TABLE states USING COVERING INDEX states_name_index (name=?) (~1 rows) 3|1|1|SEARCH TABLE people USING COVERING INDEX people_state_id_index (state_id=?) (~5569556 rows) 3|2|0|SEARCH TABLE contacts USING COVERING INDEX contacts_person2_id_index (person2_id=?) (~12 rows) 1|0|0|COMPOUND SUBQUERIES 2 AND 3 USING TEMP B-TREE (INTERSECT) In fact, if I show the query plan for the first query I posted, I get this: sqlite> EXPLAIN QUERY PLAN SELECT count(*) FROM people, states WHERE people.state_id=states.id and states.abbreviation='IA'; 0|0|1|SEARCH TABLE states USING COVERING INDEX states_abbreviation_index (abbreviation=?) (~1 rows) 0|1|0|SEARCH TABLE people USING COVERING INDEX people_state_id_index (state_id=?) (~5569556 rows) Why is SQLite using covering indices instead of the indices I created? Shouldn't the search in the people table be able to happen in log(n) time given state_id which in turn is found in log(n) time?

  • How can i optimize this recursive method

    - by Tirdyr
    Hi there. I'm trying to make a word puzzle game, and for that i'm using a recursive method to find all possible words in the given letters. The letters is in a 4x4 board. Like this: ABCD EFGH HIJK LMNO The recursive method is called inside this loop: for (int y = 0; y < width; y++) { for (int x = 0; x < height; x++) { myScabble.Search(letters, y, x, width, height, "", covered, t); } } letters is a 2D array of chars. y & x is ints that shows where in the board width & height is also int, that tells the dimensions of the board "" is the string we are trying to make (the word) covered is an array of bools, to check if we allready used that square. t is a List (wich contains all the words to check against). The recursive method that need optimizing: public void Search(char[,] letters, int y, int x, int width, int height, string build, bool[,] covered, List<aWord> tt) { // Dont get outside the bounds if (y >= width || y < 0 || x >= height || x < 0) { return; } // Dont deal with allrady covered squares if (covered[x, y]) { return; } // Get Letter char letter = letters[x, y]; // Append string pass = build + letter; // check if its a possibel word //List<aWord> t = myWords.aWord.Where(w => w.word.StartsWith(pass)).ToList(); List<aWord> t = tt.Where(w => w.word.StartsWith(pass)).ToList(); // check if the list is emphty if (t.Count < 10 && t.Count != 0) { //stop point } if (t.Count == 0) { return; } // Check if its a complete word. if (t[0].word == pass) { //check if its allrdy present in the _found dictinary if (!_found.ContainsKey(pass)) { //if not add the word to the dictionary _found.Add(pass, true); } } // Check to see if there is more than 1 more that matches string pass // ie. are there more words to find. if (t.Count > 1) { // make a copy of the covered array bool[,] cov = new bool[height, width]; for (int i = 0; i < width; i++) { for (int a = 0; a < height; a++) { cov[a, i] = covered[a, i]; } } // Set the current square as covered. cov[x, y] = true; // Continue in all 8 directions. Search(letters, y + 1, x, width, height, pass, cov, t); Search(letters, y, x + 1, width, height, pass, cov, t); Search(letters, y + 1, x + 1, width, height, pass, cov, t); Search(letters, y - 1, x, width, height, pass, cov, t); Search(letters, y, x - 1, width, height, pass, cov, t); Search(letters, y - 1, x - 1, width, height, pass, cov, t); Search(letters, y - 1, x + 1, width, height, pass, cov, t); Search(letters, y + 1, x - 1, width, height, pass, cov, t); } } The code works as i expected it to do, however it is very slow.. it takes about 2 mins to find the words. EDIT: i clarified that the letters array is 2D

  • How to search and validate plain texts (where it starts with http AND ends with .aspx) to be a valid hyperlink in a page body content?

    - by syntaxcode
    My web page content is populated by a plain text that is retrieved from a CDATA format - plain text data. This is the site http://checksite.apsx to get information. For more information, visit http://moresites.com/FAQ/index.html or search the site. Now, my goal is to convert this plain text to a valid hyperlinks. I've used a javascript code that does the conversion - /((http|https|ftp):\/\/[^ ]+)/g; , but sometimes if there are multiple words, it captures an invalid URL. My question: Is there a way to strictly capture any string that starts with "http" AND ends with ".html" or "aspx" will be converted into a valid hyperlink? it should look like this - This is the site http://checksite.apsx to get information. For more information, visit http://moresites.com/FAQ/index.html or search the site.

  • JavaNullPointerException/Layout Error when working with lists and ListView on Android

    - by psyhclo
    Hey, I'm trying to implement a ListView on Android, which will print the data retrieved from the SQLite Database. So I want to retrieve a lot of columns from the table and add this to a list, so I will print this list as a ListView. For this I created a method that will select all the columns from the table in a separate class, and I will print the ListView in a ListActivity. I want to retrieve 6 columns of the table, which is represented by the ids 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9. But it shows a lot of errors: 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): java.lang.NullPointerException 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ArrayAdapter.createViewFromResource(ArrayAdapter.java:355) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ArrayAdapter.getView(ArrayAdapter.java:323) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.AbsListView.obtainView(AbsListView.java:1418) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ListView.makeAndAddView(ListView.java:1745) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ListView.fillDown(ListView.java:670) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ListView.fillFromTop(ListView.java:727) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.ListView.layoutChildren(ListView.java:1598) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.AbsListView.onLayout(AbsListView.java:1248) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.setChildFrame(LinearLayout.java:1254) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.layoutVertical(LinearLayout.java:1130) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onLayout(LinearLayout.java:1047) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.setChildFrame(LinearLayout.java:1254) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.layoutVertical(LinearLayout.java:1130) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onLayout(LinearLayout.java:1047) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:338) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:7175) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.ViewRoot.performTraversals(ViewRoot.java:1140) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1859) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:3647) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:507) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:839) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:597) 12-24 19:19:04.066: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(22630): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) Here is the code of the method that select the data. public List<String> selectAll() { List<String> list1 = new ArrayList<String>();   • IText can't keep rows together, second row spans multiple pages but won't stick with first row.

    - by J2SE31
    I am having trouble keeping my first and second rows of my main PDFPTable together using IText. My first row consists of a PDFPTable with some basic search criteria. My second row consists of a PdfPTable that contains all of the tabulated results. Everytime the tabulated results becomes too big and spans multiple pages, it is kicked to the second page automatically rather than showing up directly below the search criteria and then paging to the next page. How can I avoid this problem? I have tried using setSplitRows(false), but I simply get a blank document (see commented lines 117 and 170). How can I keep my tabulated data (second row) up on the first page? An example of my code is shown below (you should be able to just copy/paste). public class TestHelper{ private TestEventHelper helper; public TestHelper(){ super(); helper = new TestEventHelper(); } public TestEventHelper getHelper() { return helper; • Log call information whenever there is a call.

    - by linuxdoniv
    Hi, I have written the android application and I want the application to send the call information whenever there is an incoming call and it ends. • Log call information whenever there is a phone call.

    - by linuxdoniv
    Hi, I have written the android application and I want the application to send the call information whenever there is an incoming call and it ends. This way I would be sending all calls to the server irrespective of size of the call log. Here is the code public class PhoneInfo extends BroadcastReceiver { private int incoming_call = 0; private Cursor c; Context context; public void onReceive(Context con, Intent intent) { c = con.getContentResolver().query( android.provider.CallLog.Calls.CONTENT_URI, null, null, null, android.provider.CallLog.Calls.DATE+ " DESC"); context = con; IncomingCallListener phoneListener=new IncomingCallListener(); TelephonyManager telephony = (TelephonyManager) con.getSystemService(Context.TELEPHONY_SERVICE); telephony.listen(phoneListener,PhoneStateListener.LISTEN_CALL_STATE); • how to display user name in login name control

    - by user569285
    I have a master page that holds the loginview content that appears on all subsequent pages based on the master page. i have a username control also nested in the loginview to display the name of the user when they are logged in. the code for the loginview from the master page is displayed as follows: <div class="loginView"> <asp:LoginView ID="MasterLoginView" runat="server"> <LoggedInTemplate> Welcome <span class="bold"><asp:LoginName ID="HeadLoginName" runat="server" /> <asp:Label ID="userNameLabel" runat="server" Text="Label"></asp:Label></span>! [ <asp:LoginStatus ID="HeadLoginStatus" runat="server" LogoutAction="Redirect" LogoutText="Log Out" LogoutPageUrl="~/Logout.aspx"/> ] <%--Welcome: <span class="bold"><asp:LoginName ID="MasterLoginName" runat="server" /> </span>!--%> </LoggedInTemplate> <AnonymousTemplate> Welcome: Guest [ <a href="~/Account/Login.aspx" ID="HeadLoginStatus" runat="server">Log In</a> ] </AnonymousTemplate> </asp:LoginView> <%--&nbsp;&nbsp; [&nbsp;<asp:LoginStatus ID="MasterLoginStatus" runat="server" LogoutAction="Redirect" LogoutPageUrl="~/Logout.aspx" />&nbsp;]&nbsp;&nbsp;--%> </div> Since VS2010 launches with a default login page in the accounts folder, i didnt think it necessary to create a separate log in page, so i just used the same log in page. please find the code for the login control below: <asp:Login ID="LoginUser" runat="server" EnableViewState="false" RenderOuterTable="false"> <LayoutTemplate> <span class="failureNotification"> <asp:Literal ID="FailureText" runat="server"></asp:Literal> </span> <asp:ValidationSummary ID="LoginUserValidationSummary" runat="server" CssClass="failureNotification" ValidationGroup="LoginUserValidationGroup"/> <div class="accountInfo"> <fieldset class="login"> <legend style="text-align:left; font-size:1.2em; color:White;">Account Information</legend> <p style="text-align:left; font-size:1.2em; color:White;"> <asp:Label ID="UserNameLabel" runat="server" AssociatedControlID="UserName">User ID:</asp:Label> <asp:TextBox ID="UserName" runat="server" CssClass="textEntry"></asp:TextBox> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="UserNameRequired" runat="server" ControlToValidate="UserName" CssClass="failureNotification" ErrorMessage="User ID is required." ToolTip="User ID field is required." ValidationGroup="LoginUserValidationGroup">*</asp:RequiredFieldValidator> </p> <p style="text-align:left; font-size:1.2em; color:White;"> <asp:Label ID="PasswordLabel" runat="server" AssociatedControlID="Password">Password:</asp:Label> <asp:TextBox ID="Password" runat="server" CssClass="passwordEntry" TextMode="Password"></asp:TextBox> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="PasswordRequired" runat="server" ControlToValidate="Password" CssClass="failureNotification" ErrorMessage="Password is required." ToolTip="Password is required." ValidationGroup="LoginUserValidationGroup">*</asp:RequiredFieldValidator> </p> <p style="text-align:left; font-size:1.2em; color:White;"> <asp:CheckBox ID="RememberMe" runat="server"/> <asp:Label ID="RememberMeLabel" runat="server" AssociatedControlID="RememberMe" CssClass="inline">Keep me logged in</asp:Label> </p> </fieldset> <p class="submitButton"> <asp:Button ID="LoginButton" runat="server" CommandName="Login" Text="Log In" ValidationGroup="LoginUserValidationGroup" onclick="LoginButton_Click"/> </p> </div> </LayoutTemplate> </asp:Login> I then wrote my own code for authentication since i had my own database. the following displays the code in the login buttons click event.: public partial class Login : System.Web.UI.Page { //create string objects string userIDStr, pwrdStr; protected void LoginButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { //assign textbox items to string objects userIDStr = LoginUser.UserName.ToString(); pwrdStr = LoginUser.Password.ToString(); //SQL connection string string strConn; strConn = WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["CMSSQL3ConnectionString"].ConnectionString; SqlConnection Conn = new SqlConnection(strConn); //SqlDataSource CSMDataSource = new SqlDataSource(); // CSMDataSource.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["CMSSQL3ConnectionString"].ToString(); //SQL select statement for comparison string sqlUserData; sqlUserData = "SELECT StaffID, StaffPassword, StaffFName, StaffLName, StaffType FROM Staffs"; sqlUserData += " WHERE (StaffID ='" + userIDStr + "')"; sqlUserData += " AND (StaffPassword ='" + pwrdStr + "')"; SqlCommand com = new SqlCommand(sqlUserData, Conn); SqlDataReader rdr; string usrdesc; string lname; string fname; string staffname; try { //string CurrentData; //CurrentData = (string)com.ExecuteScalar(); Conn.Open(); rdr = com.ExecuteReader(); rdr.Read(); usrdesc = (string)rdr["StaffType"]; fname = (string)rdr["StaffFName"]; lname = (string)rdr["StaffLName"]; staffname = lname.ToString() + " " + fname.ToString(); LoginUser.UserName = staffname.ToString(); rdr.Close(); if (usrdesc.ToLower() == "administrator") { Response.Redirect("~/CaseAdmin.aspx", false); } else if (usrdesc.ToLower() == "manager") { Response.Redirect("~/CaseManager.aspx", false); } else if (usrdesc.ToLower() == "investigator") { Response.Redirect("~/Investigator.aspx", false); } else { Response.Redirect("~/Default.aspx", false); } } catch(Exception ex) { string script = "<script>alert('" + ex.Message + "');</script>"; } finally { Conn.Close(); } } My authentication works perfectly and the page gets redirected to the designated destination. However, the login view does not display the users name. i actually cant figure out how to pass the users name that i had picked from the database to the login name control to be displayed. taking a close look i also noticed the logout text that should be displayed after successful log in does not show. that leaves me wondering if the loggedin template control on the masterpage even fires at all or its still the anonymous template control that keeps displaying.? How do i get this to work as expected? Please help....

  • Trouble passing a template function as an argument to another function in C++

    - by Darel
    Source of the problem -Accelerated C++, problem 8-5 I've written a small program that examines lines of string input, and tallies the number of times a word appears on a given line. The following code accomplishes this: #include <map> #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <vector> #include <list> #include <cctype> #include <iterator> using std::vector; using std::string; using std::cin; using std::cout; using std::endl; using std::getline; using std::istream; using std::string; using std::list; using std::map; using std::isspace; using std::ostream_iterator; using std::allocator; inline void keep_window_open() { cin.clear(); cout << "Please enter EOF to exit\n"; char ch; cin >> ch; return; } template <class Out> void split(const string& s, Out os) { vector<string> ret; typedef string::size_type string_size; string_size i = 0; // invariant: we have processed characters `['original value of `i', `i)' while (i != s.size()) { // ignore leading blanks // invariant: characters in range `['original `i', current `i)' are all spaces while (i != s.size() && isspace(s[i])) ++i; // find end of next word string_size j = i; // invariant: none of the characters in range `['original `j', current `j)' is a space while (j != s.size() && !isspace(s[j])) ++j; // if we found some nonwhitespace characters if (i != j) { // copy from `s' starting at `i' and taking `j' `\-' `i' chars *os++ = (s.substr(i, j - i)); i = j; } } } // find all the lines that refer to each word in the input map<string, vector<int> > xref(istream& in) // works // now try to pass the template function as an argument to function - what do i put for templated type? //map<string, vector<int> > xref(istream& in, void find_words(vector<string, typedef Out) = split) #LINE 1# { string line; int line_number = 0; map<string, vector<int> > ret; // read the next line while (getline(in, line)) { ++line_number; // break the input line into words vector<string> words; // works // #LINE 2# split(line, back_inserter(words)); // #LINE 3# //find_words(line, back_inserter(words)); // #LINE 4# attempting to use find_words as an argument to function // remember that each word occurs on the current line for (vector<string>::const_iterator it = words.begin(); it != words.end(); ++it) ret[*it].push_back(line_number); } return ret; } int main() { cout << endl << "Enter lines of text, followed by EOF (^Z):" << endl; // call `xref' using `split' by default map<string, vector<int> > ret = xref(cin); // write the results for (map<string, vector<int> >::const_iterator it = ret.begin(); it != ret.end(); ++it) { // write the word cout << it->first << " occurs on line(s): "; // followed by one or more line numbers vector<int>::const_iterator line_it = it->second.begin(); cout << *line_it; // write the first line number ++line_it; // write the rest of the line numbers, if any while (line_it != it->second.end()) { cout << ", " << *line_it; ++line_it; } // write a new line to separate each word from the next cout << endl; } keep_window_open(); return 0; } As you can see, the split function is a template function to handle various types of output iterators as desired. My problem comes when I try to generalize the xref function by passing in the templated split function as an argument. I can't seem to get the type correct. So my question is, can you pass a template function to another function as an argument, and if so, do you have to declare all types before passing it? Or can the compiler infer the types from the way the templated function is used in the body? To demonstrate the errors I get, comment out the existing xref function header, and uncomment the alternate header I'm trying to get working (just below the following commment line.) Also comment the lines tagged LINE 2 and LINE 3 and uncomment LINE 4, which is attempting to use the argument find_words (which defaults to split.) Thanks for any feedback!

It's only happening on this server, on any of the app pools on the server (not confined to this one) and an app pool restart sorts it. Any help much appreciated. Cheers, Matthew

  • How to marshall a LPCWSTR to String in C#?

    - by Carlos Loth
    I'm trying to define a P/Invoke signature for the following method (defined in propsys.h) PSSTDAPI PSRegisterPropertySchema( __in PCWSTR pszPath); I've seen on the WinNT.h that PCWSTR is an alias to LPCWSTR as typedef __nullterminated CONST WCHAR *LPCWSTR, *PCWSTR; And the PSSTDAPI is an alias for HRESULT So how should be the P/Invoke signature for the PSRegisterPropertySchema method?

  • UISearchBar and UINavigationItem

    - by tbehunin
    I can't seem to get a UISearchBar to position itself from the far left to the far right in the navigation bar. In the -(void)viewDidLoad method, I have the following code: `UISearchBar *sb = [[UISearchBar alloc] initWithFrame:self.tableView.tableHeaderView.frame]; sb.delegate = self; self.navigationItem.titleView = sb; [sb sizeToFit]; [sb release];` When you build and run, it looks just fine at first glance. However, looking more closely, you can tell there is a margin/space on the left. This wouldn't be a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but when I tap the search bar to start a search, I animate the cancel button into view. Because the search bar is positioned slightly to the right, the animation is jerky and the cancel button falls off the end like so: link text It seems as if the UINavigationItem is like a table with three cells, where there is a padding on the first and last which I can't remove - nor does there seem to be a way to 'merge' it all together and then place the search bar there. I know this look is possible, because the AppStore search has a search bar in the navigation bar and it goes all the way to the edges. Anyone know how to get the search bar to go all the way to the edges so my slide-in cancel button animation will work properly?

  • sqllite and populating list view, android

    - by Rob Bushway
    I am populating a text and list view from a sqllite database. The data is populating from the cursor correctly (I see the list filling with text rows), but I'm not able to see the actual text in the rows - all I see are empty rows. For the life of me, I can't figure out what I'm not able to see the data in the text rows. • UISearchBar in a UITableView

    - by petert
    I'm trying to mimic the behaviour of a table view like one in the iPod app for Artists - it's a sectioned table view with a section index on the right and with a search bar at the top, but initially hidden when view shown. I am using sdk 3.1.2 and IB, so simply dragged a UISearchDisplayController in to my NIB - it does wire everything up ready for searching. The problem starts because I'm adding the UISearchBar in to the first section of the UITableView, because if I understand correctly I must do this so I can jump to the search bar by touching the search icon in the section index directly? When the table view appears I see the search bar but it has resized and I now have a white block behind the section index at the top. It does'nt take the color of the UISearchBar's surround which interestingly is different to that shown in Interface Builder. Searching around, I did find a tip to add a small navigation bar and a UISearchBar in a UIView, then add this to the table view cell - this works.. BUT the color of the navigation bar's background is what you'd expect normally (gray), not the different color as noted above?! More interesting, if I click the search bar to start a search, then click Cancel, all is fixed!!! The background along the whole tableview cell when the search bar is, is the same!!?! Thanks for any tips.

  • How to pass string file path as HttpPostedfile to fileupload control?

    - by rahul
    Hi friends, I have got little tricky issue i.e I am using API of a product which has few methods for uploading image. The UI part of the product has one file upload control which takes files and convert that into binary and save it to database. In the coding part they are using one method where they send this fileupload.postedfile as one of the input parameter to the method. Now my requirement is, I have a directory where there are hundred of files which i have to send each file one by after another to this method as a input. Now i wish to know how to pass a file name as "HttpPostedFile" to that method as a parameter. I have no other option other than using that API (our clients requirement). Thanks

  • How to Deserialize XMLDocument to object in C#?

    - by Deepfreezed
    I have a .Net webserivce that accepts XML in string format. XML String sent into the webserivce can represent any Object in the system. I need to check the first node to figure out what object to deserialize the XML string. For this I will have to load the XML into an XMLDocument (Don't want to use RegEx or string compare). I am wondering if there is a way to Deserialize the XMLDocument/XMLNode rather that deserializing the string to save some performance? Is there going to be any performance benefit serializing the XMLNode rather that the string? Method to Load XMLDocument public void LoadFromString(String s) { m_XmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); m_XmlDoc.LoadXml(s); } Thanks
