• Minimal assembler program for CP/M 3.1 (z80)

  I seem to be losing the battle against my stupidity. This site explains the system calls under various versions of CP/M. However, when I try to use call 2 (C_WRITE, console output), nothing much happens. I have the following code. ORG 100h LD E,'a' LD C,2 CALL 5 CALL 0 I recite this here from memory. If there are typos, rest assured they were not in the original since the file did compile and I had a COM file to start. I am thinking the lines mean the following: Make sure this gets loaded at address 100h (0h to FFh being the zero page). Load ASCII 'a' into E register for system call 2. Load integer 2 into C register for system call 2. Make system call (JMP to system call is at address 5 in zero page). End program (Exit command is at address 0 in zero page). The program starts and exits with no problems. If I remove the last command, it hangs the computer (which I guess is also expected and shows that CALL 0 works). However, it does not print the ASCII character. (But it does print an extra new line, but the system might have done that.) How can I get my CP/M program to do what the system call is supposed to do? What am I doing wrong?

• Why does Microsoft advise against readonly fields with mutable values?

  In the Design Guidelines for Developing Class Libraries, Microsoft say: Do not assign instances of mutable types to read-only fields. The objects created using a mutable type can be modified after they are created. For example, arrays and most collections are mutable types while Int32, Uri, and String are immutable types. For fields that hold a mutable reference type, the read-only modifier prevents the field value from being overwritten but does not protect the mutable type from modification. This simply restates the behaviour of readonly without explaining why it's bad to use readonly. The implication appears to be that many people do not understand what "readonly" does and will wrongly expect readonly fields to be deeply immutable. In effect it advises using "readonly" as code documentation indicating deep immutability - despite the fact that the compiler has no way to enforce this - and disallows its use for its normal function: to ensure that the value of the field doesn't change after the object has been constructed. I feel uneasy with this recommendation to use "readonly" to indicate something other than its normal meaning understood by the compiler. I feel that it encourages people to misunderstand the meaning of "readonly", and furthermore to expect it to mean something that the author of the code might not intend. I feel that it precludes using it in places it could be useful - e.g. to show that some relationship between two mutable objects remains unchanged for the lifetime of one of those objects. The notion of assuming that readers do not understand the meaning of "readonly" also appears to be in contradiction to other advice from Microsoft, such as FxCop's "Do not initialize unnecessarily" rule, which assumes readers of your code to be experts in the language and should know that (for example) bool fields are automatically initialised to false, and stops you from providing the redundancy that shows "yes, this has been consciously set to false; I didn't just forget to initialize it". So, first and foremost, why do Microsoft advise against use of readonly for references to mutable types? I'd also be interested to know: Do you follow this Design Guideline in all your code? What do you expect when you see "readonly" in a piece of code you didn't write?

Basically a wrapper for an ImageField that generates a thumbnail. upload_to="images/blogs", height_field="imageheight", width_field="imagewidth", help_text = "Select an image to upload.", thumbnail={'size': (360,720)}, generate_on_save=True, ) The EntryImage class shows up as an inline in the admin page for Entry. What I'd like to do is place a link or a button beside each of these inlines that does the following: Save the EntryImage Append <Image x> to the content of the Entry, where x is the number of the EntryImage. This will be replaced by the image's thumbnail using a template filter. Save the Entry Return to editing the Entry I have looked into this, but I just can't wrap my head around where I'm supposed to add this button or link. Has anyone else tried something similar? • MS Query returns data inside itself but does not export it to Excel

  Hi, I'm having a strange problem with Excel and MS Query: I'm using MS Query to run a T-SQL query against a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and return the results to Excel. To do this, I open Excel, go to Data - Import external data - New database query, select my data source, paste the SQL script in MS Query and click File - Return data to Microsoft Office Excel, leaving all the query options to their defaults. This works fine for many other Excel files, but this time although MS Query shows the correct data when I paste the SQL script, after returning to Excel all I get is the query name in the upper left cell, with no data returned. I fear the cause could be the SQL script, as it contains some advanced functions like union all, UDFs and variables. • java GC periodically enters into several full GC cycles

  Environment: sun JDK 1.6.0_16 vm settings: -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -Xms1024 -Xmx1024M -XX:MaxNewSize=448m -XX:NewSize=448m -XX:SurvivorRatio=4(6 also checked) -XX:MaxPermSize=128M OS: windows server 2003 processor: 4 cores of INTEL XEON 5130, 2000 Hz my application description: high intensity of concurrent(java 5 concurrency used) operations completed each time by commit to oracle. it's about 20-30 threads run non stop, doing tasks. application runs in JBOSS web container. My GC starts work normally, I see a lot of small GCs and all that time CPU shows good load, like all 4 cores loaded to 40-50%, CPU graph is stable. Then , after 1 min of good work, CPU starts drop to 0% on 2 cores from 4, it's graph becomes unstable, goes up and down("teeth"). I see, that my threads work slower(I have monitoring), I see that GC starts produce a lot of FULL GC during that time and next 4-5 minutes this situation remains as is, then for short period of time, like 1 minute, it gets back to normal situation, but shortly after that all bad thing repeats. Question: Why I have so frequent full GC??? How to prevent that? I played with SurvivorRatio - does not help. I noticed, that application behaves normally until first FULL GC occurs, while I have enough memory. • Form (or Formset?) to handle multiple table rows in Django

  Hi, I'm working on my first Django application. In short, what it needs to do is to display a list of film titles, and allow users to give a rating (out of 10) to each film. I've been able to use the {{ form }} and {{ formset }} syntax in a template to produce a form which lets you rate one film at a time, which corresponds to one row in a MySQL table, but how do I produce a form that iterates over all the movie titles in the database and produces a form that lets you rate lots of them at once? At first, I thought this was what formsets were for, but I can't see any way to automatically iterate over the contents of a database table to produce items to go in the form, if you see what I mean. Currently, my views.py has this code: def survey(request): ScoreFormSet = formset_factory(ScoreForm) if request.method == 'POST': formset = ScoreFormSet(request.POST, request.FILES) if formset.is_valid(): return HttpResponseRedirect('/') else: formset = ScoreFormSet() return render_to_response('cf/survey.html', { 'formset':formset, }) And my survey.html has this: <form action="/survey/" method="POST"> <table> {{ formset }} </table> <input type = "submit" value = "Submit"> </form> Oh, and the definition of ScoreForm and Score from models.py are: class Score(models.Model): movie = models.ForeignKey(Movie) score = models.IntegerField() user = models.ForeignKey(User) class ScoreForm(ModelForm): class Meta: model = Score So, in case the above is not clear, what I'm aiming to produce is a form which has one row per movie, and each row shows a title, and has a box to allow the user to enter their score. • How to exit current activity to homescreen (without using "Home" button)?

  Hi everyone, I am sure this will have been answered but I proved unable to find it. So please excuse my redundancy. What I am trying to do is emulating the "Home" button which takes one back to Android's homescreen. So here is what causes me problems: I have 3 launcher activities. The first one (which is connected to the homescreen icon) is just a (password protected) configuration activity. It will not be used by the user (just admin) One of the other 2 (both accessed via an app widget) is a questionnaire app. I'm allowing to jump back between questions via the Back button or a GUI back button as well. When the questionnaire is finished I sum up the answers given and provide a "Finish" button which should take the user back to the home screen. For the questionnaire app I use a single activity (called ItemActivity) which calls itself (is that recursion as well when using intents?) to jump from one question to another: Questionnaire.serializeToXML(); Intent i = new Intent().setClass(c, ItemActivity.class); if(Questionnaire.instance.getCurrentItemNo() == Questionnaire.instance.getAmountOfItems()) { Questionnaire.instance.setCompleted(true); } else Questionnaire.instance.nextItem(); startActivity(i); The final screen shows something like "Thank you for participating" as well as the formerly described button which should take one back to the homescreen. But I don't really get how to exit the Activity properly. I've e.g. used this.finish(); but this strangely brings up the "Thank you" screen again. • Can't send smtp email from network using C#, asp.net website

  Hi, I have my code here, it works fine from my home, where my user is administrator, and I am connected to internet via a cable network. But, problem is when I try this code from my work place, it does not work. Shows error: "unable to connect to the remote server" From a different machine in the same network: "A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable network 209.xxx.xx.52:25" I checked with our network admin, and he assured me that all the mail ports are open [25,110, and other ports for gmail]. Then, I logged in with administrative privilege, there was a little improvement, it did not show any error, but the actual email was never received. Please note that, the code was tested from development environment, visual studio 2005 and 2008. Any suggestion will be much appreciated. • CSS: Possible to define styles mid way through an html document?

  In ASP.NET MVC, there are these snippets of html called view templates which appear when their matching data appears on the screen. For example, if you have a customer order and it has a vendor address, the vendor address view template shows up populated with data. Unfortunately, these don't have access to "MasterPages" nor are aware of their CSS surroundings. Instead of loading these up with style tags, is there any way to create partial CSS files that could work for that particular html snippet, a sort of in-line CSS style section? It would be really nice to plop this down just before we render the partial view: <style type="text/css"> input { margin: .2em .2em; overflow: hidden; width: 18.8em; height: 1.6em; border: 1px solid black;} </style> to have the 15 or so input fields in that particular Html snippet be formatted the same. These are swapped out, so the positions of the input fields change. This may also imply a CSS reset on each partial view.

• How to determine values saved on the stack?

  I'm doing some experimenting and would like to be able to see what is saved on the stack during a system call (the saved state of the user land process). According to http://lxr.linux.no/#linux+v2.6.30.1/arch/x86/kernel/entry_32.S it shows that the various values of registers are saved at those particular offsets to the stack pointer. Here is the code I have been trying to use to examine what is saved on the stack (this is in a custom system call I have created): asm("movl 0x1C(%esp), %ecx"); asm("movl %%ecx, %0" : "=r" (value)); where value is an unsigned long. As of right now, this value is not what is expected (it is showing a 0 is saved for the user value of ds). Am I correctly accessing the offset of the stack pointer? Another possibility might be could I use a debugger such as GDB to examine the stack contents while in the kernel? I don't have much extensive use with debugging and am not sure of how to debug code inside the kernel. Any help is much appreciated.

• ImageButton OnClick Event not firing

  Hi All, I am really confused about this one. I have some code that runs fine on my development server but I am now trying to get the site working on the sales guys new laptop. None of the image buttons on the website seem to be working for him (they just redirect me back to the websites homepage) whereas they used to on his previous machine. The only difference between each machine is that his old one was Vista and the new one is Windows 7. Has anyone come accross this issue?   I use jquery pagination plugin for paging... If there is one pagination plugin there is no problem for me... But if there is two one seems to work but the other doesn't seem too... • Max Daily Budget exceeded and Billing Status "Changing Daily Budget"

  We've exceeded the Max Daily Budget for our app, but we can't increase the budget due to a serious flaw in Google's billing system. Google App Engine and Google Wallet do not have very capable support for multiple sign-in. As a result, I went to change the budget, but it used the wrong Google Wallet account (a different Google Account I was signed in as). I had to go back and try again, but now our GAE app shows the following status: Billing Status: Changing Daily Budget Your account has been locked while we process your budget changes. If you were redirected to Google Checkout but did not complete the process, your settings will remain unchanged. (You will be able to make changes to your budget settings again once the outstanding payment is processed.) Now I'm completely prevented from making any billing changes, our app is shut off (over quota), and I have NOTHING I can do to fix it. This is a seriously fundamental flaw in App Engine's billing system and Google Wallet integration. Has anyone run into this before? Is there a workaround anyone is aware of? Right now, our production app is completely down thanks to this issue. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated? • How to get MySQL database to appear on index.php

  Hi, I have a submission form on my website (index.php) and I have the data(user submissions) being stored into a MySQL database. Right now, I have the user submitting a post and then the page directs them to an update.php which shows what they inputed. However, I want all of the data in the database in MySQL to be shown on the index.php. It's a lot like a comment system. User submits a post... and sees their post above the other submitted posts all on the same page. I think I'm missing AJAX... ? I have jQuery setup like so: $('.control').click(function(){ var master = $(this).parent().parent(); var first_div = $(master).find(".first-div"); var second_div = $(master).find(".second-div"); $(first_div).toggleClass("hidden") $(second_div).toggleClass("hidden") }); This setup toggles the visibility of the divs, click the control button it hides one div and show the other. However this just hides and shows each div in a flash. I am looking to add some animation to the transitioning of the divs, maybe have one slide up and the other slide down when the 'control' is clicked and vice versa but I am unable to achieve this. • Click outside menu to close in jquery

  So I have a drop-down menu that shows on a click, as per business requirements. The menu becomes hidden again after you mouse away from it. But now I am being asked to have it stay in place until user clicks anywhere on the document. How can this be accomplished? • Filter large amounts of data in a table w/ jQuery

  I work for a transit agency and I have large amounts of data (mostly times), and I need a way to filter the data using two textboxes (To and From). I found jQuery quick search, but it seems to only work with one textbox. If anyone has any ideas via jQuery or some other client side library, that would be fantastic. Lastly it shows me to: station and all its times on the left and the from: station and all its times on the right.

• RSKeyMgmt -r unable to remove installtion ID

  I have backed up databases on one 2005 SQL Server and have restored those databases on a second 2005 SQL Server. I am currently trying to remove the new server's OLD key instance ID using the Reporting Services Key Manager (RSKeyMgmt -r). Prior to running the removal command the list of the current instances shows the new server's OLD instance ID as well as the NEW instance ID from the first SQL Server. Executing the RSKeyMgmt -r command results in: "The command completed successfully". However, when I recheck the listing of current instance IDs I see both the OLD and NEW instance IDs. In addition, when I check the Application Event Viewer I see an error: Report Server Windows Service (MSSQLSERVER) has not been granted access to the catalog content Does anyone know why I would be getting the above application error? Or...does anyone know what I would need to do to give access to the catalog to the Report Server Window Service? The first SQL Server where the databases were backed up is an Enterprise edition SQL Server and the second SQL Server where the databases were restored is Standard edition. Could this be the cause of the problem? Is there a way to make this backup and restore migration work?

• Is hardware accelerated CSS3 in Safari 4 & 5 broken, or my CSS and JS?

  Hi all, I've created a somewhat silly site that shows you the expected weather forecast for any city in the World. On webkit based browsers, when the weather is sunny a sun with CSS3 animated rotated sunbeams appears. This works fine on Chrome. An example (sunny, at the moment) page is: http://willitraintoday.co.uk/iceland/reykjavik/ However, when viewed in Safari 4 or 5 on Mac Snow Leopard, when the sun appears the sky background appears over it. Weirder still, as the cloud containing the advert moves across the sky, it squashes the main text. When the cloud reaches the left edge, the text appears wider than normal and starts squashing down again. I've tried: - Disabling the CSS3 animation; it works fine in Safari - Juggling the z-index of various elements; to no avail Is there something up with my Javascript or CSS, or is the hardware accelerated snow leopard Safari broken in this case? It seems not to happen in Safari 4 on Leopard, but I don't have Leopard any more to test myself. Grateful for any opinions!

• jQuery cycle floats on top of other content

  I tried to replace my Flash video with a jQuery cycle. The cycle works, but the images will not stay in the editable region I placed them in. Instead they are floating on top of other content. Any ideas? This is happening on the home page of massageeducator.com There are 2 cycles on the page. “Slideshow1” and “slideshow2”. “slideshow1” works perfectly. The only thing I did differently was set up “slideshow2” as a library item since it will appear on every page, but added function code manually. I tried adding code and images via the template and had the same issue. I also tried adding both the function code and slideshow to each page instead of library item - same problem. I have both slide shows pointing to the same jquery.cycle.lite.1.0.js. Should I rename this .js file and have each cycle point to a different file? I am new to jQuery so any help is appreciated. I can't seem to post my code due to the spam filters in here!

• AJAX contact form in CodeIgniter

  Few questions: I'm using CI and JQuery AJAX. In my code below, I assemble dataString, which by default, is appended to the URL as a query string. I've changed the AJAX "type" to POST, so my question is - how do I access dataString in my CI app? It would seem I still have to use $name=$this->input->post('name') Which to me, makes setting dataString redundant? -- I've tried searching but can't really find anything concrete. Would it be possible to still make use of CIs validation library and AJAX? if($this->form_validation->run() == FALSE) { // what can i return so that my CI app shows errors? } Normally you would reload the contact form or redirect the user. In an ideal world I would like the error messages to be shown to the user. • Jquery .Show() .Hide() not working as expected

  I'm trying to use the show and hide to display a different set of select options when a certain report type is selected. I have a couple problems with this: The .show .hide only execute properly if I pass params, slow fast, in the the first result of my conditional statement. If I take out the params or pass params in both results, only one select shows and it never changes.. here's is the code that currently kind of works. if ($('#ReportType').val() == 'PbuseExport') { $('#PbuseServices').show('fast'); $('#ReportServiceDropdown').hide('fast'); } else { $('#PbuseServices').hide(); $('#ReportServiceDropdown').show(); } After i've used this control I am taken to a differnt page. When I use the control again, it reatins the original search values and repopulates the control. Then again I only want to show one select option if a certain report is chosen.. This works correctly if the report type I originally searched on is not the "PbuseExport". If I searched on the report type "PbuseExport", then both selects show on the screen, and only until I change the report type does it show only one select. I know this probably isn't very clear..
