• Debugging compiled .NET 2.0 application

  I don't know if I'll pass all the necessary information here, but I've only been asked to post this question here and I'm not entirely onto the matter. There is a .NET Framework 2.0 application compiled in the Debug mode with the parameter jitDebugging set to true in app.config <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /> After any crash we get the dialog box allowing us to send a report or to debug the program. When we choose to debug and select proper VS, the IDE starts but with the announcement: No symbols are loaded for any call stack frame. The source code cannot be displayed. and Disassembly cannot be displayed in run mode. Is there any possiblity to see the code or the spot where the crash has occured?

Say I'm planning to build a web application and some of the functional requirements include (apart from the usual hard hitting security reqs), - Need to have users sign up for a new account profile - Authenticate user using the native app authentication / Facebook or Google or Yahoo or OpenId login - Allow lost password retrieval - Session handling needs Is there an out of the box frameworks (Drupal, Liferay??) that I can use to wrap my application which can be a bunch of JSP's or HTML's with JS? I know I'm asking a very simple and maybe a naive question. But this is a topic every web developer guru will go thru. Any help, advise and pointers much appreciated.

• How can I load a SQLITE database from a buffer with the C API ?

  Hello, I am trying to load a database from the memory instead of opening a .sqlite file. I have read the C/C++ API reference but I can not find the proper method. The buffer I am trying to load is simply an sqlite file loaded in memory. I just want to use this buffer (a const char* array) without using the filesystem (I could have saved this buffer in a file, then load the file, but no). First, I create a memory DB : mErrorCode = sqlite3_open_v2(":memory:", &mSqlDatabase, lMode, NULL); This returns SQLITE_OK, then I tried to use the buffer as a statement and call preparev2(MyDB, MyBufferData, MyBufferLength, MyStatement, NULL) but it's not really a statement, and it returns an error. Same result if I call directly exec(MyDB, MyBufferData, NULL, NULL, NULL); I guess there is an appropriate method to achieve this as it might be common to load a DB from a stream or from decrypted data... • Controling the visibility of a Bitmap in .NET

  Hi everyone, I am trying to create this simple application in c#: when the user double clicks on specific location in the form, a little circle will be drawn. By one click, if the current location is marked by a circle - the circle will be removed. I am trying to do this by simply register the MouseDoubleClick and MouseClick events, and to draw the circle from a .bmp file the following way: private void MouseDoubleClick (object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { Graphics g = this.CreateGraphics(); Bitmap myImage = (Bitmap)Bitmap.FromFile("Circle.bmp"); g.DrawImage(myImage, e.X, e.Y); } My problem is that I dont know how to make the circle unvisible when the user clicks its location: I know how to check if the selected location contains a circle (by managing a list of all the locations containig circles...), but I dont know how exactly to delete it. Another question: should I call the method this.CreateGraphics() everytime the user double-clicks a location, as I wrote in my code snippet, or should I call it once on initialization?

  I have a table called artists. Within it, there is a field for the artist name (artist_name). Then there is a field for SEO friendly artist name, we'll call it search_name. I have over 40,000 artists in this table. So, I'd like to convert all artists names to search friendly. What is the best way to accomplish this? Not looking for code here, just ideas. This is what I have thus far. I'm just not sure if I should call all 40,000 artists, loop through them and update? // Does this artist name have any symbols, apostrophes, etc. If so, strip them out // Does this artist have a space (the beatles)? • Conditionally setting the font color of an item in a drop down box in JSF

  I'm a newbie to web programming, so please bear with me. I am using JSF 1.2 and I want to conditionally set the color of the items in my drop down list. In other words, I have a collection of items that, along with a key and a value, also have a boolean property, warning, that is dynamically set by user action. I want the drop down to show all of the items, but those whose warning property is set to true should be displayed in red. I assume I have to extend the SelectItem class to add in the boolean property. How do I then conditionally set the color of the font of those items whose warning property is set to true in my JSP pages? Thanks in advance

• Rails - Dynamic cookie domains using Rack

  I'm fairly new to Rails and Rack, but this guy had a seemingly straightforward write-up about using Rack to implement dynamic session domain middleware. The code looks good to and I've implemented it here on my local machine, but I'm still not able to transcend top level domains on a single login. • Subprocess with variables & Command from different class

As you can see below what i mean class Controller: def __init__(self): self.model = Model() self.view = View() def main(self): data = self.model.filename() self.view.tcpdump(data) class View: def tcpdump(self, command): subprocess.call(command.split(), shell=False) When i run my code i get this error: subprocess.call(command.split(), shell=False) AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'split' My guess means that its not picking up command (look at source for reference) or that its not getting command with variables. But i know the error when variables are not being picked up so i don't think it is that. My question is, from what i have thus far, how do i from "class view" grab "command" for my subprocesses to run. Thanks~ John Riselvato

• Calling a JAVA method from C++ with JNI, no parameters

  Please bear with me, I am an iPhone developer and this whole android this confuses me a bit. I have some c++ methods that are called from a cocos2d-x CCMenuItem. Therefore I cannot send any parameters, according to the docs. I need to open a url with the android browser which will require me to call a JAVA function to start a new intent. I understand that I need to create a VM, however the below code gives me the error: jni/../../Classes/MyClass.cpp:184: error: 'JNI_CreateJavaVM' was not declared in this scope I was looking at this thread: Calling a java method from c++ in Android But he uses parameters, and I can't do that. And I don't see where those are in his code to just make them myself. I don't know what the string should be in the 'Find Class' method. Also, I assume it is pretty terrible to create a new VM instance in every method I need to call. How would I create one as a singleton to use across the board? This is my c++ code called by my menu item: #include <jni.h> ...   To test a polling function I want to mock the calling of a sub function so that the first time it is called it will fail, and the second time it is called it will succeed. Here's a very simplified version of it: poll_function(var1): value = sub_function(var1) # First call will return None while not value: time.sleep(POLLING_INTERVAL) value = sub_function(var1) # A subsequent call will return a string, e.g "data" return value Is this possible to do with a Mock object from the mock framework? I know Mock objects have a call_count attribute I should be able to use somehow. • Is there a way to launch an aggressive and complete garbage collection in Java?

  For memory optimization reasons, I'm launching myself the garbage collector during profiling, to check if objects are correctly cleaned after disposing of them. The call to garbage collector is not enough, though, and it seems that there is no guarantee of what it will clean. Is there a way to call it, to be sure it will recover as much as it can, in profiling conditions (this would have no point in production, of course)? Or is "calling it several times" the only way to be "almost sure"? Or did I simply misunderstand something about the Garbage Collector?

• Android game goes blank after pressing home and restarting

  I am making an Android game with an Activity called Game, a SurfaceView called GameView and a Thread called GameThread. The Game's onCreate(), I make a new GameView, which makes a new GameThread, where all the game logic and canvas drawing is carried out. However, I'm having some lifecycle difficulties. When I press back and restart it, it works fine, but when I press home and restart it, all I see is a blank screen. • Mongoose Not Creating Indexes

  I have been trying all afternoon to get my node.js application to create MongoDB indexes properly. I am using the Mongoose ODM and in my schema definition below I have the username field set to a unique index. The collection and document all get created properly, it's just the indexes that aren't working. All the documentation says that the ensureIndex command should be run at startup to create any indexes, but none are being made. I'm using MongoLab for hosting if that matters. I have also repeatedly dropped the collection. If any colors are matched it converts them backwards into their numeric representation to evaluate against obj.color, but this feels wrong.

• Replacing whitespace with sed in a CSV (to use w/ postgres copy command)

  I iterate through a collection of CSV files in bash, running: iconv --from-code=ISO-8859-1 --to-code=UTF-8 ${FILE} | \ sed -e 's/\"//g' | \ sed -e 's/, /,/g' \ > ${FILE}.utf8 Running iconv to fix UTF-8 characters, then the first sed call removes the double quote characters, and the final sed call is supposed to remove leading and trailing whitespace around the commas. HOWEVER, I still have a line like this in the saved file: FALSE,,,, 2.40,, The COPY command in postgres is kind of dumb, so it thinks " 2.40" is not valid syntax for a numeric value. Where am I going wrong w/ my processing of the CSV file? Thanks!

• misleading plot issue in mathematica

  I want to study some "strange" functions by plotting them out in mathematica. One example is the following: mod2[x_] := Which[Mod[x, 2] >= 1, -2 + Mod[x, 2], True, Mod[x, 2]]; f[x_] := Which[-1 <= x <= 1, Abs[x], True, Abs[mod2[x]]]; fn[x_, n_] := Sum[(3/4)^i*f[4^n*x], {i, 0, n}] Plot[{fn[x, 0], fn[x, 1], fn[x, 2], fn[x, 5]}, {x, -2, 2}] However, the plot I got from mma is misleading, in the sense that the maxima and minima of fn[x, 5] should be on the same two levels. But due to high oscillation of the function, and the fact that clearly mma only takes limited number of points to draw the function, you see the plot exhibit strange behavior. Is there any option in plot to remedy for this? Many thanks.

• how rspec creates database between specs

  This is a bit of a naive / simple question. I'm having a hard time finding this info online. Basically, does rspec run rake db:test:prepare between every rspec group? Or is it between every example or model? Or does the schema get loaded once and then truncated between each. I need to add a rake task directly after this call to create a view since they are not supported in schema.rb. Either a link or explanation would be greatly appreciated so that I know where to insert my rake task to create a view. Or whether there is a callback like rake db:test:after_prepare thx
