  • How to dynamically set control IDs inside a repeater template?

    - by Bryan
    Here is a perplexing issue I have not seen a good answer to on StackOverflow, although there a couple stabs at it... I have a situation where I'd like to do this: <asp:Repeater ID="MyRepeater" runat="server" OnItemDataBound="MyRepeater_ItemDataBound"> <ItemTemplate> <li id="id?"> All the other stuff </li> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> The question... is how do I get the ID of my <li> elements to be id1, id2, id3, etc., based on the ItemIndex they are bound to? So far the most... er..."elegant" solution I've come up with is to replace the <li> with an asp:Literal and dump the <li...>' text. But that just feels... so wrong. And no, I'm not using ASP.NET 4.0, which I've read will provide this functionality.

  • If statement with code on same block in haml, RoR

    - by Micke
    Hello, i have this Haml view: !!! strict %html{:xmlns => "http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"} %head %meta{:content => "text/html; charset=utf-8", "http-equiv" => "Content-Type"} %title Lighty | #{@page_title || "Home"} %body #popup Login here #fade #wrapper #container #header %a#logo{:href => "/"} #menu %ul#main %li#lighty %a{:href => "/"} Lighty %ul %li %a Link here %li#community %a{:href => "/community"} Community #content And i would like to add an if on line #16 to check if it is the currently visited page and add the class "active" to the li if it returns true. How do i write that if statement there and is there any easier way to do this? My plan now is to use a variable like @current_page and testif it @current_page == "community" and add a class if it returns right. Am i thinking wrong? any easier way to accomplish this? Thanks for your answer and sorry for my bad english.

  • Getting error detail from WCF REST

    - by Keith
    I have a REST service consumed by a .Net WCF client. When an error is encountered the REST service returns an HTTP 400 Bad Request with the response body containing JSON serialised details. If I execute the request using Fiddler, Javascript or directly from C# I can easily access the response body when an error occurs. However, I'm using a WCF ChannelFactory with 6 quite complex interfaces. The exception thrown by this proxy is always a ProtocolException, with no useful details. Is there any way to get the response body when I get this error? Update I realise that there are a load of different ways to do this using .Net and that there are other ways to get the error response. They're useful to know but don't answer this question. The REST services we're using will change and when they do the complex interfaces get updated. Using the ChannelFactory with the new interfaces means that we'll get compile time (rather than run time) exceptions and make these a lot easier to maintain and update the code. Is there any way to get the response body for an error HTTP status when using WCF Channels?

  • How to Determine The Module a Particular Exception Class is Defined In

    - by doug
    Note: i edited my Q (in the title) so that it better reflects what i actually want to know. In the original title and in the text of my Q, i referred to the source of the thrown exception; what i meant, and what i should have referred to, as pointed out in one of the high-strung but otherwise helpful response below, is the module that the exception class is defined in. This is evidenced by the fact that, again, as pointed out in one of the answers below the answer to the original Q is that the exceptions were thrown from calls to cursor.execute and cursor.next, respectively--which of course, isn't the information you need to write the try/except block. For instance (the Q has nothing specifically to do with SQLite or the PySQLite module): from pysqlite2 import dbapi2 as SQ try: cursor.execute('CREATE TABLE pname (id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, name VARCHARS(50)') except SQ.OperationalError: print("{0}, {1}".format("table already exists", "... 'CREATE' ignored")) # cursor.execute('SELECT * FROM pname') while 1: try: print(cursor.next()) except StopIteration: break # i let both snippets error out to see the exception thrown, then coded the try/finally blocks--but that didn't tell me anything about which module the exception class is defined. In my example, there's only a single imported module, but where there are many more, i am interested to know how an experienced pythonista identifies the exception source (search-the-docs-till-i-happen-to-find-it is my current method). [And yes i am aware there's a nearly identical question on SO--but for C# rather than python, plus if you read the author's edited version, you'll see he's got a different problem in mind.]

  • basic javascript question on geolocation and googlemaps

    - by ade
    hello all, Im hoping that somebody can help me out on what i feel is an easy answer but I just cant get it to work out. Im trying to trap the geolocation lat and long and place it into the google maps api so far i have var myOptions = { zoom:7, trips:1, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP } var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map"), myOptions); directionsDisplay.setMap(map); var request = { origin: 'newyork' destination: 'deleware', travelMode: google.maps.DirectionsTravelMode.DRIVING }; this works fine for what i want. how ever I want to be able to change Origin to the users lat long using the following script from google.maps.api. their code is: if(navigator.geolocation) { navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(position) { initialLocation = new google.maps.LatLng(position.coords.latitude,position.coords.longitude); var placeMarker = new google.maps.Marker({ position: initialLocation, map: map, }); map.setCenter(initialLocation); }, function() { handleNoGeolocation(browserSupportFlag); }); } else { // Browser doesn't support Geolocation handleNoGeolocation(); } function handleNoGeolocation() { initialLocation = newyork; map.setCenter(initialLocation); } I want to pull out the navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(position) { initialLocation = new google.maps.LatLng(position.coords.latitude,position.coords.longitude); and allocate it two 2 varibles, myLat and myLong. I then want to be able to change my orignal script from var request = { origin: 'newyork' destination: 'deleware', travelMode: google.maps.DirectionsTravelMode.DRIVING }; to var request = { origin: myLat,myLong destination: 'deleware', travelMode: google.maps.DirectionsTravelMode.DRIVING }; Does this make sense..? Im currently having a pig with it and as im not a JS developer its what i think should be a simple bit of coding that im losing the battle with.. any thoughts..?

  • Ext-GWT / GXT (Not So) Simple Layout Issue?

    - by Xandel
    Hi all, I have posted this question on the Ext-GWT forums, I am just hoping that someone here might have an answer for me! I am struggling to do something I initially thought was simple but am beginning to believe is impossible... I have got a "layout template" of sorts - simply consisting of a few GWT DockLayoutPanel's within each other and finally ending in LayoutPanels. GWT's LayoutPanel is designed to size the widget (or Composite) that's added to it to its full size and does so perfectly with pure GWT widgets. The idea of my "layout template" is that I don't know the EXACT height and width of the very inner LayoutPanel's because I may set certain panels sizes (of the outer DockLayoutPanels) differently when instantiating this template. All I would like is to add a Grid component to one of the inner most LayoutPanels and have it size itself (height AND width) to fit as normal GWT widgets do (works perfectly with a GWT Label for instance). I am VERY new to GXT (as in I started using it earlier today) and I do realize that GXT builds its Components differently to the way GWT builds its Widgets on the DOM. Is there anyway to achieve the desired result? I have tried adding the grid to a ContentPanel with a Layout of FitLayout, I have tried AnchorLayout, I have tried adding the grid directly... Nothing seems to work... Any advice or even a push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Xandel

  • Sorting tasks to assign

    - by Diego
    I've got a problem that I don't know where to start. I'd realy appreciate some help. The problem: I have several T task that must be done in D days by just 1 employee (let's forget using several resources right now). Each task can be done in some times (not all tasks can be done all time). e.g.: If my employee starts working at 8 o'clock and one task is "call a client". Maybe the client office opens at 9 o'clock. Also each task has a duration (really estimated). It is supposed that the D days are enough to do all task. I've to sort the tasks to the employee. e.g.: at monday 8:00 do task 7, then at 9:30 starts with task 2. In the example task 7 duration would be 1 and a half hour. Thanks for the help! Diego PD: If someone has a way to make this and it is not an algorithm never minds, please answer and I'll manage to think the algorithm. I just don't know how to face the problem. Edit Would Project be usefull? Edit 2 Tasks / Jobs dependency is NOT required

  • Raytracing (LoS) on 3D hex-like tile maps

    - by herenvardo
    Greetings, I'm working on a game project that uses a 3D variant of hexagonal tile maps. Tiles are actually cubes, not hexes, but are laid out just like hexes (because a square can be turned to a cube to extrapolate from 2D to 3D, but there is no 3D version of a hex). Rather than a verbose description, here goes an example of a 4x4x4 map: (I have highlighted an arbitrary tile (green) and its adjacent tiles (yellow) to help describe how the whole thing is supposed to work; but the adjacency functions are not the issue, that's already solved.) I have a struct type to represent tiles, and maps are represented as a 3D array of tiles (wrapped in a Map class to add some utility methods, but that's not very relevant). Each tile is supposed to represent a perfectly cubic space, and they are all exactly the same size. Also, the offset between adjacent "rows" is exactly half the size of a tile. That's enough context; my question is: Given the coordinates of two points A and B, how can I generate a list of the tiles (or, rather, their coordinates) that a straight line between A and B would cross? That would later be used for a variety of purposes, such as determining Line-of-sight, charge path legality, and so on. BTW, this may be useful: my maps use the (0,0,0) as a reference position. The 'jagging' of the map can be defined as offsetting each tile ((y+z) mod 2) * tileSize/2.0 to the right from the position it'd have on a "sane" cartesian system. For the non-jagged rows, that yields 0; for rows where (y+z) mod 2 is 1, it yields 0.5 tiles. I'm working on C#4 targeting the .Net Framework 4.0; but I don't really need specific code, just the algorithm to solve the weird geometric/mathematical problem. I have been trying for several days to solve this at no avail; and trying to draw the whole thing on paper to "visualize" it didn't help either :( . Thanks in advance for any answer

  • Why should we call SuppressFinalize when we dont have a destructor

    - by somaraj
    I have few Question for which I am not able to get a proper answer . 1) Why should we call SuppressFinalize in the Dispose function when we dont have a destructor . 2) Dispose and finalize are used for freeing resources before the object is garbage collected. Whether it is managed or unmanaged resource we need to free it , then why we need a condition inside the dispose funtion , saying pass 'true' when we call this overriden function from IDisposable:Dispose and pass false when called from a finalize. See the below code i copied from net. class Test : IDisposable { private bool isDisposed = false; ~Test() { Dispose(false); } protected void Dispose(bool disposing) { if (disposing) { // Code to dispose the managed resources of the class } // Code to dispose the un-managed resources of the class isDisposed = true; } public void Dispose() { Dispose(true); GC.SuppressFinalize(this); } } what if I remove the boolean protected Dispose function and implement the as below. class Test : IDisposable { private bool isDisposed = false; ~Test() { Dispose(); } public void Dispose() { // Code to dispose the managed resources of the class // Code to dispose the un-managed resources of the class isDisposed = true; // Call this since we have a destructor . what if , if we dont have one GC.SuppressFinalize(this); } }

  • matplotlib.pyplot/pylab not updating figure while isinteractive(), using ipython -pylab

    - by NumberOverZero
    There are a lot of questions about matplotlib, pylab, pyplot, ipython, so I'm sorry if you're sick of seeing this asked. I'll try to be as specific as I can, because I've been looking through people's questions and looking at documentation for pyplot and pylab, and I still am not sure what I'm doing wrong. On with the code: Goal: plot a figure every .5 seconds, and update the figure as soon as the plot command is called. My attempt at coding this follows (running on ipython -pylab): import time ion() x=linspace(-1,1,51) plot(sin(x)) for i in range(10): plot([sin(i+j) for j in x]) #see ** print i time.sleep(1) print 'Done' It correctly plots each line, but not until it has exited the for loop. I have tried forcing a redraw by putting draw() where ** is, but that doesn't seem to work either. Ideally, I'd like to have it simply add each line, instead of doing a full redraw. If redrawing is required however, that's fine. Additional attempts at solving: just after ion(), tried adding hold(True) to no avail. for kicks tried show() for ** The closest answer I've found to what I'm trying to do was at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2310851/plotting-lines-without-blocking-execution, but show() isn't doing anything. I apologize if this is a straightforward request, and I'm looking past something so obvious. For what it's worth, this came up while I was trying to convert matlab code from class to some python for my own use. The original matlab (initializations removed) which I have been trying to convert follows: for i=1:time plot(u) hold on pause(.01) for j=2:n-1 v(j)=u(j)-2*u(j-1) end v(1)= pi u=v end Any help, even if it's just "look up this_method" would be excellent, so I can at least narrow my efforts to figuring out how to use that method. If there's any more information that would be useful, let me know.

  • How to add and remove nested model fields dynamically using Haml and Formtastic

    - by Brightbyte8
    We've all seen the brilliant complex forms railscast where Ryan Bates explains how to dynamically add or remove nested objects within the parent object form using Javascript. Has anyone got any ideas about how these methods need to be modified so as to work with Haml Formtastic? To add some context here's a simplified version of the problem I'm currently facing: # Teacher form (which has nested subject forms) [from my application] - semantic_form_for(@teacher) do |form| - form.inputs do = form.input :first_name = form.input :surname = form.input :city = render 'subject_fields', :form => form = link_to_add_fields "Add Subject", form, :subjects # Individual Subject form partial [from my application] - form.fields_for :subjects do |ff| #subject_field = ff.input :name = ff.input :exam = ff.input :level = ff.hidden_field :_destroy = link_to_remove_fields "Remove Subject", ff # Application Helper (straight from Railscasts) def link_to_remove_fields(name, f) f.hidden_field(:_destroy) + link_to_function(name, "remove_fields(this)") end def link_to_add_fields(name, f, association) new_object = f.object.class.reflect_on_association(association).klass.new fields = f.fields_for(association, new_object, :child_index => "new_#{association}") do |builder| render(association.to_s.singularize + "_fields", :f => builder) end link_to_function(name, h("add_fields(this, \"#{association}\", \"#{escape_javascript(fields)} \")")) end #Application.js (straight from Railscasts) function remove_fields(link) { $(link).previous("input[type=hidden]").value = "1"; $(link).up(".fields").hide(); } function add_fields(link, association, content) { var new_id = new Date().getTime(); var regexp = new RegExp("new_" + association, "g") $(link).up().insert({ before: content.replace(regexp, new_id) }); } The problem with implementation seems to be with the javascript methods - the DOM tree of a Formtastic form differs greatly from a regular rails form. I've seen this question asked online a few times but haven't come across an answer yet - now you know that help will be appreciated by more than just me! Jack

  • Opening href in jQuery Dialog

    - by Phil
    Okay, so I've got the following code to create a dialog of a div within a page: $('#modal').dialog({ autoOpen: false, width: 600, height: 450, modal: true, resizable: false, draggable: false, title: 'Enter Data', close: function() { $("#modal .entry_date").datepicker('hide'); } }); $('.modal').click(function() { $('#modal').dialog('open'); }); All working fine. But what I want is to also be able to open a link in a dialog window, kinda like... <a href="/path/to/file.html" class="modal">Open Me!!</a> I've done this before by hardcoding the path: $('#modal').load('/path/to/file.html').dialog('open'); but we can't hardcode the path in the javascript (as there will be multiple coming from the database) and I'm struggling to understand how to get this to work. I'm also pretty sure that the answer is really obvious, and I'm merely setting myself up to be humbled by the clever folk here at StackOverflow, but I've scratched my head for long enough this afternoon, so my ego has been put away, and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction... Thanks Phil

  • Broken tables in RichTextBox control (word wrap)

    - by Ben Robbins
    We are having problems with the Windows.Forms.RichTextBox control in Visual Studio 2008. We are trying to display text supplied as an RTF file by a 3rd party in a windows forms application (.NET 3.5). In this RTF text file there are tables, which contain text that spans multiple lines. The RTF file displays correctly when opened with either WordPad or Word 2003. However, when we load the RTF file into the RichTextBox control, or copy & paste the whole text (including the table) into the control, the table does not display correctly - the cells are only single line, without wrapping. Here are links to images showing the exact problem: Correctly displayed in WordPad Incorrectly displayed in RichTextBox control I have googled for solutions and 3rd party .net RTF controls without success. I have found this exact problem asked on another forum without an answer (in fact that's where the link to the images come from) so I'm hoping stack overflow does better ;-) My preferred solution would be to use code or a 3rd party control that can correctly render the RTF. However, I suspect the problem is that the RichTextBox control only supports a subset of the full RTF spec, so another option would be to modify the RTF directly to remove the unsupported control codes or otherwise fix the RTF file itself (in which case any information as to what control codes need to be removed or modified would be a huge help).

  • simple Stata program

    - by Cyrus S
    I am trying to write a simple program to combine coefficient and standard error estimates from a set of regression fits. I run, say, 5 regressions, and store the coefficient(s) and standard error(s) of interest into vectors (Stata matrix objects, actually). Then, I need to do the following: Find the mean value of the coefficient estimates. Combine the standard error estimates according to the formula suggested for combining results from "multiple imputation". The formula is the square root of the formula for "T" on page 6 of the following document: http://bit.ly/b05WX3 I have written Stata code that does this once, but I want to write this as a function (or "program", in Stata speak) that takes as arguments the vector (or matrix, if possible, to combine multiple estimates at once) of regression coefficient estimates and the vector (or matrix) of corresponding standard error estimates, and then generates 1 and 2 above. Here is the code that I wrote: (breg is a 1x5 vector of the regression coefficient estimates, and sereg is a 1x5 vector of the associated standard error estimates) mat ones = (1,1,1,1,1) mat bregmean = (1/5)*(ones*breg’) scalar bregmean_s = bregmean[1,1] mat seregmean = (1/5)*(ones*sereg’) mat seregbtv = (1/4)*(breg - bregmean#ones)* (breg - bregmean#ones)’ mat varregmi = (1/5)*(sereg*sereg’) + (1+(1/5))* seregbtv scalar varregmi_s = varregmi[1,1] scalar seregmi = sqrt(varregmi_s) disp bregmean_s disp seregmi This gives the right answer for a single instance. Any pointers would be great! UPDATE: I completed the code for combining estimates in a kXm matrix of coefficients/parameters (k is the number of parameters, m the number of imputations). Code can be found here: http://bit.ly/cXJRw1 Thanks to Tristan and Gabi for the pointers.

  • dynamic naming of UIButtons within a loop - objective-c, iphone sdk

    - by von steiner
    Dear Members, Scholars. As it may seem obvious I am not armed with Objective C knowledge. Levering on other more simple computer languages I am trying to set a dynamic name for a list of buttons generated by a simple loop (as the following code suggest). Simply putting it, I would like to have several UIButtons generated dynamically (within a loop) naming them dynamically, as well as other related functions. button1,button2,button3 etc.. After googling and searching Stackoverlow, I haven't arrived to a clear simple answer, thus my question. - (void)viewDidLoad { // This is not Dynamic, Obviously UIButton *button0 = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; [button0 setTitle:@"Button0" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; button0.tag = 0; button0.frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 100.0, 100.0); button0.center = CGPointMake(160.0,50.0); [self.view addSubview:button0]; // I can duplication the lines manually in terms of copy them over and over, changing the name and other related functions, but it seems wrong. (I actually know its bad Karma) // The question at hand: // I would like to generate that within a loop // (The following code is wrong) float startPointY = 150.0; // for (int buttonsLoop = 1;buttonsLoop < 11;buttonsLoop++){ NSString *tempButtonName = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"button%i",buttonsLoop]; UIButton tempButtonName = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; [tempButtonName setTitle:tempButtonName forState:UIControlStateNormal]; tempButtonName.tag = tempButtonName; tempButtonName.frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 100.0, 100.0); tempButtonName.center = CGPointMake(160.0,50.0+startPointY); [self.view addSubview:tempButtonName]; startPointY += 100; } }

  • Database structure and source control - best practice

    - by Paddy
    Background I came from several years working in a company where all the database objects were stored in source control, one file per object. We had a list of all the objects that was maintained when new items were added (to allow us to have scripts run in order and handle dependencies) and a VB script that ran to create one big script for running against the database. All the tables were 'create if not exists' and all the SP's etc. were drop and recreate. Up to the present and I am now working in a place where the database is the master and there is no source control for DB objects, but we do use redgate's tools for updating our production database (SQL compare), which is very handy, and requires little work. Question How do you handle your DB objects? I like to have them under source control (and, as we're using GIT, I'd like to be able to handle merge conflicts in the scripts, rather than the DB), but I'm going to be pressed to get past the ease of using SQL compare to update the database. I don't really want to have us updating scripts in GIT and then using SQL compare to update the production database from our DEV DB, as I'd rather have 'one version of the truth', but I don't really want to get into re-writing a custom bit of software to bundle the whole lot of scripts together. I think that visual studio database edition may do something similar to this, but I'm not sure if we will have the budget for it. I'm sure that this has been asked to death, but I can't find anything that seems to quite have the answer I'm looking for. Similar to this, but not quite the same: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/340614/what-are-the-best-practices-for-database-scripts-under-code-control

Ok after some search and reading these: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/425439/how-to-check-if-array-element-is-null-to-avoid-nullpointerexception-in-java http://stackoverflow.com/questions/963936/gracefully-avoiding-nullpointerexception-in-java http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?NullPointerException Am still not making any progress on how to deal with NullPointerException error on my code, snippet for questionable code: int findElement(String element) { int retval = 0; for ( int i = 0; i < setElements.length; i++) { if ( setElements[i].equals(element) ) { // This line 31 here return retval = i; } else { return retval = -1; } } return retval; } void add(String newValue) { int elem = findElement(newValue); if( numberOfElements < maxNumberOfElements && elem != -1 ) { setElements[numberOfElements] = newValue; numberOfElements++; } else { System.out.println("Element " + newValue + "already exist"); } } It compile but adding new element to a set throws a NullPointerException error. D:\javaprojects>java SetDemo Enter string element to be added A You entered A Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException at Set.findElement(Set.java:31) at Set.add(Set.java:44) at SetDemo.main(Set.java:145) I added another check, though honestly don't have clue if this right to line 31. if ( setElements != null && setElements[i].equals(element) ) but still no joy. A documentation/tips or explanation is greatly appreciated. learning, lupin

  • Decisions in teaching someone else to program: language selection

    - by Dinah
    My friend would like for me to guide her into learning programming. She's already proven enormous aptitude for thinking like a programmer but is scared of the idea of programming since in her mind it's relegated to some magical realm accessible only to smart people and trained computer scientists (ironically, I am neither but that's beside the point). My main question is the age-old and irritating question: which language should I chose? I've limited it down to these: PHP: dead simple to start with and I remember enough of the language to answer all novice questions. However, I can think of a million reasons why I wouldn't recommend this as a first language. The most diplomatic of which is that there's no desktop app option to which I would feel comfortable subjecting a novice. Python: supposed to be wonderful for beginners and generally everything I've heard about it screams that this is the correct choice. That's the problem: everything I've heard about it. I don't know it yet and have a lot of projects going on right now so I don't feel like learning it yet -- but I'm going to be the tech-support when any little thing goes wrong. I know there are tons of online resources but in the frustration of the moment, it's always going to be just me. C#: this is the language I'm most comfortable with so I know I can be good tech support. I also love this language and its versatility and community. The big drawback here is that I remember when I first learned it after doing mainly PHP, Perl, and JavaScript and I found the experience overwhelming. You are simultaneously learning: programming concepts, C# syntax, strong typing, OOP, and a complex powerful IDE with a bazillion options and buttons all over it.

  • ClickOnce Deployment Error - Access to the Path is Denied

    - by michael.lukatchik
    I have a WPF app that I'm deploying to a network path using ClickOnce deployment. After the app is deployed to a network location, I use the ClickOnce html page to launch the installation process. I am successfully able to download and install the app. However, my users are not able to download and install the app. When a user navigates to the ClickOnce html page and clicks to begin the installation process, the following error message is received: ERROR SUMMARY Below is a summary of the errors, details of these errors are listed later in the log. * Activation of http://software.mycompany.com/myapp/myapp.application resulted in exception. Following failure messages were detected: + Downloading file://dev/webs/software/myapp/myapp.application did not succeed. * [4/5/2010 1:56:59 PM] System.Deployment.Application.DeploymentDownloadException (Unknown subtype) - Downloading file://dev/Webs/software/myapp/myapp.application did not succeed. All signs point to this being a security issue. So, I've done the following: Ensured that "Everyone" had read access to the files that were being deployed as part of my project Ensured that "Everyone" had read access to the network location where the app was deployed (//dev/webs/software/myapp) Ensured that "Everyone" had read access to the IIS path where the ClickOnce html page is located In each of these cases, I've made no progress in getting the app to successfully deploy via ClickOnce. Again, the odd thing is that I am able to successfully walk through the process of downloading and installing the app. It's my users, though, that need the ability to download and install the app. I've looked extensively on the web for answers, but there hasn't been much. I'd like to resolve the issue without "re-installing" or "rigging" anything. I need a solid answer. Thank you all for your input!! Mike

  • Beginner question - Loop invariants (Specifically Ch.3 of "Accelerated C++")

    - by Owen
    Hi - as I said, a complete beginner question here. I'm currently working my way through "Accelerated C++" and just came across this in chapter 3: // invariant: // we have read count grades so far, and // sum is the sum of the first count grades while (cin >> x) { ++count; sum += x; } The authors follow this by explaining that the invariant needs special attention paid to it because when the input is read into the variable x, we will have read count+1 grades and thus the invariant will be untrue. Similarly, when we have incremented the counter, the variable sum will no longer be the sum of the last count grades (in case you hadn't guessed, it's the traditional program for calculating student marks). What I don't understand is why this matters. Surely for just about any other loop, a similar statement would be true? For example, here is the book's first while loop (the output is filled in later): // invariant: we have written r rows so far while (r != rows) { // write a row of output std::cout << std::endl; ++r; } Once we have written the appropriate row of output, surely the invariant is false until we have incremented r, just as in the other example? It's probably something really obvious, anyone could enlighten me as to what makes these two cases different, that'd be great - and thanks in advance for taking the time to answer such a complete novice question. • Lambdas within Extension methods: Possible memory leak?

    - by Oliver
    I just gave an answer to a quite simple question by using an extension method. But after writing it down i remembered that you can't unsubscribe a lambda from an event handler. So far no big problem. But how does all this behave within an extension method?? Below is my code snipped again. So can anyone enlighten me, if this will lead to myriads of timers hanging around in memory if you call this extension method multiple times? I would say no, cause the scope of the timer is limited within this function. So after leaving it no one else has a reference to this object. I'm just a little unsure, cause we're here within a static function in a static class. public static class LabelExtensions { public static Label BlinkText(this Label label, int duration) { Timer timer = new Timer(); timer.Interval = duration; timer.Tick += (sender, e) => { timer.Stop(); label.Font = new Font(label.Font, label.Font.Style ^ FontStyle.Bold); }; label.Font = new Font(label.Font, label.Font.Style | FontStyle.Bold); timer.Start(); return label; } }

  • How to use SSL3 instead of TLS in a particular HttpWebRequest?

    - by Anton Tykhyy
    My application has to talk to different hosts over https, and the default setting of ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = TLS served me well up to this day. Now I have some hosts which (as System.Net trace log shows) don't answer the initial TLS handshake message but keep the underlying connection open until it times out, throwing a timeout exception. I tried setting HttpWebRequest's timeout to as much as 5mins, with the same result. Presumably these hosts are waiting for an SSL3 handshake since both IE and Firefox are able to connect to these hosts after a 30-40 seconds' delay. There seems to be some fallback mechanism in .NET which degrades TLS to SSL3, but it doesn't kick in for some reason. FWIW, here's the handshake message my request is sending: 00000000 : 16 03 01 00 57 01 00 00-53 03 01 4C 12 39 B4 F9 : ....W...S..L.9.. 00000010 : A3 2C 3D EE E1 2A 7A 3E-D2 D6 0D 2E A9 A8 6C 03 : .,=..*z>......l. 00000020 : E7 8F A3 43 0A 73 9C CE-D7 EE CF 00 00 18 00 2F : ...C.s........./ 00000030 : 00 35 00 05 00 0A C0 09-C0 0A C0 13 C0 14 00 32 : .5.............2 00000040 : 00 38 00 13 00 04 01 00-00 12 00 0A 00 08 00 06 : .8.............. 00000050 : 00 17 00 18 00 19 00 0B-00 02 01 00 : ............ Is there a way to use SSL3 instead of TLS in a particular HttpWebRequest, or force a fallback? It seems that ServicePointManager's setting is global, and I'd really hate to have to degrade the security protocol setting to SSL3 for the whole application.

  • C#: WebBrowser.Navigated Only Fires when I MessageBox.Show();

    - by tsilb
    I have a WebBrowser control which is being instantiated dynamically from a background STA thread because the parent thread is a BackgroundWorker and has lots of other things to do. The problem is that the Navigated event never fires, unless I pop a MessageBox.Show() in the method that told it to .Navigate(). I shall explain: ThreadStart ts = new ThreadStart(GetLandingPageContent_ChildThread); Thread t = new Thread(ts); t.SetApartmentState(ApartmentState.STA); t.Name = "Mailbox Processor"; t.Start(); protected void GetLandingPageContent_ChildThread() { WebBrowser wb = new WebBrowser(); wb.Navigated += new WebBrowserNavigatedEventHandler(wb_Navigated); wb.Navigate(_url); MessageBox.Show("W00t"); } protected void wb_Navigated(object sender, WebBrowserNavigatedEventArgs e) { WebBrowser wb = (WebBrowser)sender; // Breakpoint HtmlDocument hDoc = wb.Document; } This works fine; but the messagebox will get in the way since this is an automation app. When I remove the MessageBox.Show(), the WebBrowser.Navigated event never fires. I've tried supplanting this line with a Thread.Sleep(), and by suspending the parent thread. Once I get this out of the way, I intend to Suspend the parent thread while the WebBrowser is doing its job and find some way of passing the resulting HTML back to the parent thread so it can continue with further logic. Why does it do this? How can I fix it? If someone can provide me with a way to fetch the content of a web page, fill out some data, and return the content of the page on the other side of the submit button, all against a webserver that doesn't support POST verbs nor passing data via QueryString, I'll also accept that answer as this whole exercise will have been unneccessary.
