  • MSI Installer error 2203; how to force permissions on installer directory?

Feel free to let me know where it best belongs.] Hi all, I'll try to bullet-point to keep it short: Background / Issue Trying to install ASP.NET MVC 3 RC on my Windows 7 machine. Uninstalled other versions of MVC (2 and 3 Beta 1). Ran the installer -- got a generic error, 2203. Log files said that it was a permissions error on C:\Windows\Installer. Checked C:\Windows\Installer -- sure enough, it's marked as read-only. I un-checked "Read-Only" in the folder properties and applied. It appears to open the dialog and apply to all files. However, when clicking properties again, the read-only box is backed to checked. Checked the security tab of the folder -- both system and the Administrators group have full access. I checked ownership -- the Administrators group is listed as an owner. Verified that I'm in the system as an Administrator (in fact, the only account in the Administrators group besides Administrator). So, what gives? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

    I have a blog. The blog is stored under the /blog/ prefix on my website. It has the usual URLs for a blog, so articles have URLs in the format /blog/:year/:month/:day/:title/. First and foremost, I want to automatically redirect visitors to the www subdomain (in case they leave that off), and internally rewrite the root URL to /blog/, so that the front page of the blog appears on the front page of the site. I have accomplished that with the following set of rewrite rules in my .htaccess file: RewriteEngine On # Rewrite monkey-robot.com to www.monkey-robot.com RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^monkey-robot\.com$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.monkey-robot.com/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteRule ^$ /blog/ [L] RewriteRule ^feeds/blog/?$ /feeds/blog/atom.xml [L] That works fine. The problem is that the front page of the blog now appears at two distinct URLs: / and /blog/. So I'd like to redirect the /blog/ URL to the root URL.     I tried to make a btrfs RAID-1 filesystem in "degraded mode" by following the btrfs UseCases instructions but hit a fatal assertion error. Why is this failing, and is there any workaround?   • IIS6: How to troubleshoot a 404 error in an ASP.NET application?

    I have an ASP.NET application on a Windows Server 2003/IIS6 that refuses to run for some reason (it's the Xerox Centre, if that info helps). It has been working flawlessly before though on this server. Now, all I get if I try to open the app homepage (http://some.intranet.server/XeroxCentreWareWeb/) is a "404 - File or directory not found" error. The app is configured to run in it's own app pool, which runs as Network Service. The Network Service account has read access to the configured directory. If I stop the app pool, I get the expected "Service Unavailable" message, meaning the app and its pool are wired correctly I tried to track down any file permission issues with procmon - nothing to be seen. There isn't even an access to the web app directory happening when the page loads. Interestingly, according to procmon, the web server accesses the 401-2 custom error file (Logon failed due to server configuration) first, but then decides to send the 404 down to the client. EDIT: The app runs with Windows-integrated authentication. Regular users have access to the app directory as well (I would have noticed file system "ACCESS DENIED" messages in procmon, if there had been any.) This makes me think that there is some kind of weird permission problem that occurs even before the application files are being accessed. I just have no idea where to look. I've tried to run the app pool as Local System for a test, but to no avail. What else could I check in this case?

    Prompted by the answers to this question I decided to give the Windows built in time synchronisation another go. However, no matter what time server I use I get this error: "An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with [name of time server]." The help suggests the following as reasons for failure: You are not connected to the Internet. Establish an Internet connection before you attempt to synchronize your clock. Your personal or network firewall prevents clock synchronization. Most corporate and organizational firewalls will block time synchronization, as do some personal firewalls. Home users should read the firewall documentation for information about unblocking network time protocol (NTP). You should be able to synchronize your clock if you switch to Windows Firewall. The Internet time server is too busy or is temporarily unavailable. If this is the case, try synchronizing your clock later, or update it manually by double-clicking the clock on the taskbar. You can also try using a different time server. The time shown on your computer is too different from the current time on the Internet time server. Internet time servers might not synchronize your clock if your computer's time is off by more than 15 hours. To synchronize the time properly, ensure that the date and time settings are set close to your current time in the Date and Time Properties in Control Panel. Now the first reason is clearly wrong - I am connected to the internet. I can see the 2nd being the most likely cause. I have Sygate Personal Firewall running, but it normally asks if something it trying to connect for the first time. Does anyone know I can unblock the NTP protocol - or at least check if it is blocked?. I don't think it's #3 or #4 as I've tried a number of different servers including the one currently used by Atomic Clock Sync. Though if someone knows the address of a UK time server I can double check this.

I ran a crontab on another script before and it worked just fine...any ideas??     ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) Debian. mysqld is listening on 3306 supposedly Telnet to 3306 works Also tried binding it specifically yo localhost and then 127.0.0.1 which made no difference However: # netstat -ln | grep mysql unix 2 [ ACC ] STREAM LISTENING 78993 /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock # mysql -P3306 -ptest ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) Things I've tried: dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server-5.1 Doesn't help http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/442 Doesn't help This command (source): UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD('MyNewPass') WHERE User='root'; FLUSH PRIVILEGES; Doesn't help, in fact: Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) Rows matched: 0 Changed: 0 Warnings: 0 So might the user be deleted? Extremely unlikely as all this started after packages update a colleague did and some separate services started screwing around but my colleague said he removed the offenders. Theres more: while # mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables is running one can access the data tables, only with the valid passwords! So there's users and some authentication takes place hence the 0 rows affected above. Can the privileges tables be damaged somehow and how can I recreate/restore them when my only way of getting a mysql console is to skip them? Can I spare my reinstall of MySQL? Either way I did get a dump of the DBs now that I could get in with the above mode.

  • download and process a file by ftp at set intervals, with error handling, rescheduling and status messages

    I want to download a data file from a remote ftp server to my machine at regular intervals. Once the file is downloaded I want to call another script which will process the file. My development machine is mac os x, the eventual deployment environment is linux. What's would be the stock standard way to automate this? I know I can use cron to schedule curl to download and to run a script that will process the downloaded file at regular intervals, and I know could write a slightly more complex script or an application that would do this and add error handling, rescheduling and sending status emails. But one of my requirements for this project is to write as little custom code as possible, instead I should try to use standard, tried and true existing tools, and if I do have to write code, to try and write the most straightforward code possible. The reason for this is the code will potentially be installed on a large number of machines, all of which will need to be tweaked, customised and maintained by different people, long after I am gone from the project, so the intention is to use well documented, well supported tools as much as possible. This seems such a common task, there must be tools and scripts all over the internet, written by people who have carefully considered everything that could possibly go wrong when you need to download and process a file from a remote server at regular intervals, with error handling, rescheduling and sending status messages. Is that what Expect is for? What would you recommend? (the system will be downloading weather prediction data every six hours, so that the system can prepare in the event of bad weather warnings)

I have been searching the internet now looking for solutions but none seem to match mine or I am overlooking them. I've made a few changes which brought me to this point, before I was receiving deprecation warnings. Also, I have checked the logs and they are empty of errors relating to this.

    Here are my architecture : For the protected site 4 Host VSphere Enterprise Plus, each one with 2 HBAs FC connected to the switch fabric, connected to an EMC CX4-120 1 VCenter 1 SRM For the recovery site 2 Hosts Vsphere 4 1 Vcenter 1 SRM 1 CX-4-120 The CX4-120 is connected to the second CX4-120 with ISCSI and the MirrorView / Asynchronous. I synchronise for the time 6 Lun on a FC DAE, 2 on a S-ATA DAE I have allocated 30% of the amount synchronised LUN for the SNAPSHOT us, but I have allocated them only on my S-ATA II DAE. It does not make a problem, my snapshot are correctly active. All the installation is new (hardware and software), installed in January with the last files available in download. I have a strange problem, and it's random, sometimes when I run a test on my RP, some VMs have this error : Error: A specified parameter was not correct. I don't know where to look. Any help is appreciated... PS : I have checked on all the VMs, no Floppy disk or CD attached. PS2 : There is severals VMs with RDM and OCFS2 filesystems on it.

  • (squid): failed to find or read error text file.

    There is something in our ERR_NO_RELAY that is causing this error to be logged and for the squid process to fail on start up. I can't show you the exact content of the file but I can tell you It has several lines of JavaScript When we remove the JavaScript, the problem goes away. This same file does not cause any issues other 3 instances of squid that we have running internally. All instances of squid came from the same VM images so they should be the same. We are unable to reproduce this issue except on the one box and we are unable to debug more on this box right now because it is running in production. I know these files are interpreted so squid can replace certain values available in the session so it may be that a syntax error caused this issue. That does not explain why we cannot reproduce it on other (virtually the same) images. One difference is that the instance of squid that has the issue was under load when the issue occurred. Any suggestions/insight would be appreciated. thanks!

I recently installed Windows 7 and VS 2008 on a new workstation. When I import the package from TFS and open it, I get the error Validation error. Parse and Import Catalog Flat File: MySSISPackage: The file name "\\shared\flatfile.txt" specified in the connection was not valid. When I open the Flat File Connection Manager Editor, there is an error stating: A valid file name must be selected I can browse to and select the file from inside the editor, but I cannot change any properties, or move away from the General tab because of this error. If I go back to my laptop (Windows XP), where the package was first created, there is no error. Both workstations are on the same domain, and I'm logging in using the same credentials. Any ideas as to why I would receive this error from one workstation and not another? UPDATE: If I take the .dtsx package from the running workstation and load it into SSIS on the server, I get the following errors when it tries to run: Error: The file name "\\shared\flatfile.txt" specified in the connection was not valid. and... Error: Connection "MySSISPackage" failed validation. and... Error: The file name property is not valid. The file name is a device or contains invalid characters. UPDATE 2: a) The Shared folder I'm trying to pull the flat file from is a Samba share on a Unix box. b) If I access the file using SSIS on any 64-bit platform (Windows 7 64-bit, Vista 64-bit, Windows Server 2008) I get the error "A valid file name must be selected." c) Accessing the file using SSIS from 32-bit environments (Windows XP 32-bit, Windows Server 2003 32-bit) there is no problem. d) If I move the file to a shared folder on a Windows server, 64-bit SSIS recognizes the file.

    For a WPF application being developed in VS 2012 (Ultimate), the application runs fine when a particular project's code analysis is disabled. Enabling it results in the error above. This was working fine until recently (i.e. running with code analysis enabled for the particular project) and the only recent change I can think of is removing NHibernate Profiler (using NuGet). Will be grateful for any pointers on how to debug this, or to see a more detailed log/error message.

    I've got a ItemsControl (to be replaced by listbox) which has it's ItemsSource bound to an ObservableCollection<User> which is located in the view model. The View Model contains some DelegateCommand<T> delegates for handling commands (for instance UpdateUserCommand and RemoveUserCommand). Which would imply that there are binding errors present. Is there any way to make this right? or is this not the way?
