• How to track opens and pageviews in PDFs?

  I know how to track clicks in links to pdfs and pfd's downloads. But I need to track how many times a PDF is opened after being downloaded and if possible track how many times certain pages are shown to users. Tracking has to be done without warnings that personal information is being sent somewhere. I do not want readers personal informations, just to know how many opens happened, so this warnings would be inaccurate. Can anyone help by pointing to a tutorial or an example? If you are sure that this can't be done, can you please point to documentation that explains why?

• Empathy sametime client id

  I have been using Pidgin as an all-in-one IM client, but now as Empathy is the default app in Ubuntu I wanted to try it out. I have a sametime account at an external company that is keen to restrict access to their service from certain sametime client versions only. I was able to trick it with pidgin by specifying the following settings in accounts.xml: <setting name='client_minor' type='int'>8510</setting> <setting name='client_major' type='int'>30</setting> <setting name='client_id_val' type='int'>4876</setting> I tried to do the same in Empathy but I failed. As far as I know, Pidgin and Empathy use the same connector Plugin for sametime, so basically the functions should be there somewhere but there is little information about the configuration files and that doesn't discuss any sametime specific options.

KLISS is developed by Propylon in partnership with the executive and legislative branches of the Kansas Government involving a complete overhaul of the Legislature's IT systems.   I'm using ASP.NET MVC 4 and I want to track the incoming traffic of my site to know things like: 1) How many users that clicked a Google Adwords advertisement have bought one particular product? 2) Ranking of buyers grouped by Google Adwords advertisements. I could add a parameter to the URL like mysite.com?source=advertisement1234 but I want to avoid this practice to have cleaner URLs and for SEO purposes. Url.Referrer is not going to give me that information either, it's just going to say that the referrer is Google. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  In late 2001 I developed an internal talk on designing hardware for easier error injection, prevention, diagnosis, and correction. (This talk became the basis for my paper on injecting errors for fun and profit.) In that talk (but not in the paper), I articulated 10 principles of RAS design, which I list for you here: Protect everything Correct where you can Detect where you can't Where protection not feasible (e.g., ALUs), duplicate and compare Report everything; never throw away RAS information Allow non-destructive inspection (logging/scrubbing) Allow non-destructive alteration (injection) (that is, only change the bits you want changed, and leave everything else as is) Allow observation of all the bits as they are (logging) Allow alteration of any particular bit or combination of bits (injection) Document everything Of course, it isn't always feasible to follow these rules completely all the time, but I put them out there as a starting point.

  It's getting me crazy! compiz or unity refresh screen (like I run compiz --replace or unity --replace) by every movement I do (e.g ctrl+tab, super+w) and somehow unexpectedly! sometimes it failed to reload title bar and keyboard functions like ctrl+tab and alt+F2 stop working, and I had no chance but reboot! Sometimes it work without any problem. I couldn't found any reason why this happen. I wanted to report a bug but I don't have enough information about it.

• Is there a way to determine if a database has been altered, then to push new data to the Application

  All our (my company) currently applications pull information from that database, is their a way to get the following types of databses to either push data or push an event to allow the application to pull data. Access SQL Oracle File systems (Files and folders) The issue today is that most of our application spend a large amount of time constantly looking at databases and file system checking to see if data has changed . It would be better for the database to inform the application when data has changed. Are there tools within Visual studio to allow this or are there tools within the database / filesystem to do this? All ready asked this on stack overflow but go no answer. I've been doing some more research but I cant seem to get any further. My manager has asked to investigate it as it would mean our applications are much quicker and efficient.

  We have a peculiar requirement and our site is in magento. Requirement We want the user to fill in a personal information form with their image. After that, the user should be redirected to a product subscription page where he can select either 3 month, 6 month or on yearly basis. Now, when the selection is made, the user should make the payment via our payment method. How can I develop this? I am not able to figure it out.   I have a travel website. Just for information purposes, I had put a weather page. Now I realize that this page is increasing my overall bounce rate; because people who are looking for the weather forecast are landing on that page and getting what they want and exiting. What is the safest method to get rid of that page? Would it hurt my google rank if I remove it completely? Or is there a better way to handle this situation? I realize that around 21 percent of my daily hits are on that page. I would have been happy if my aim was to provide weather data for the location; however, my site needs to focus on selling hotels. So I think I need to get rid of this weather page immediately. What do you think?

  As an affiliate, how can we get more information on sales? It looks like the goals feature in GA is for those who have control over the receipt page. But we are sending users away using an affiliate link. With event tracking, we've been able to count the clicks and see which links are being clicked the most, but not which ones actually convert. We want to find out the following on each sale: Did the converted user come from search or internal traffic? If it was search, which keyword brought the user to our site (and clicked away and converted)? Is it possible?

  I'm having a really big problem with installing Ubuntu on my computer. It seems that when I try to install from BIOS from the CD, nothing happens, and when I say nothing happens it boots up my computer like usual. When I try to install from the CD from My Computer directly from the wubi.exe file, nothing happens. THEN when I try to install from the boot helper, it gives me this error: An error occurred: Could not retrieve the required installation files For more information please see the log file: c:\users\Meghan\appdata\local\temp\wubi-14.04-rev286.log Will it help if I say I have a pirated version of Windows? Maybe that's why? I'm frustrated, and I'm not sure what to do. Please help me

• App not showing up in Google Play search on app name [on hold]

  About 30 hours ago, I released an app on Google Play. I am concerned that if you search on the exact app name, it does not show up in the results, even if you click "show more". https://play.google.com/store/search?q=free+graphing+calculator&c=apps It does show up if you put the name in quotes. But that's awfully low discoverability. https://play.google.com/store/search?q=%22free%20graphing%20calculator%22&c=apps Possibly relevant information: I had an earlier version with a different bundle ID. It was up for just an hour or so, and probably never actually visible to users. How can I fix this?

• /build folder used by PEAR

  I've just noticed a root directory (/build) which I can't seem to find any information for. It looks like it's some sort of staging ground for PEAR (PHP). There are only two folders of different php versions in it, and each of those has a few PEAR tar files I've installed (via the PEAR command line). I'm really only asking this question because I find is strange PEAR (and only PEAR) would create its own root directory to store files. Is this normal? Does Ubuntu provide a /build directory for applications to use?

• Are sequence designs appropriate for GUI button design?

  Specifically, I have numerous buttons that will be changing color based on state information from operator input and input from various subcomponents and sensors. I would like to use UML or some other type of design diagrams to be able to capture the color transition. Some folks have suggested sequence diagrams, but I haven't been able to find any good examples that show how to incorporate this design artifact. I would really like to head in this direction to help developers. Are sequence designs in fact, appropriate, or is there a more appropriate design?

• Am I personally liable for bugs in medical software I've developed as an employee? [closed]

  Some background: I'm employed at a small, Australia-based web agency that is dipping it's toe into Mobile Application development (iOS). The project that I'm working on provides a way for users to save medication dosage information which is sync'd with a backend server. Users must agree to ToS, Disclaimer etc before using the application. This is my first iOS application, and the project is currently over budget. As a result, management is not devoting the resources to Q&A and is pushing instead for more features. I am an employee of the agency, that has been contracted by a non-for-profit. The application will probably be released under our agency's name, but we also have the option of releasing it as the not-for-profit. My question is, if there are bugs found in the application, and as a result a user takes an incorrect dosage of a medication, am I personally liable? Is there anything that I can or should do in order to protect myself personally?

  I am writing a function to label the connected component in an image (I know there are several libraries outside, I just wanted to play with the algorithm). To do this I label the connected regions with different labels and create an equivalence table that contain information on the labels belonging to the same connected component. As an example if my equivalence table (vector of vector) looks something like: 1: 1,3 2: 2,3 3: 1,2,3 4: 4 It means that in the image there are 2 different regions, one made of elements that are labelled 1,2,3 and an other made of elements labelled 4. What is an easy and efficient way to resolve the equivalences and end up with something that looks like: 1: 1,2,3 2: 4 that I can use to "merge" the different connected regions belonging to the same connected component? • Encrypted Ubuntu Partition HELP!

  I had Zorin 7 Encrypted. I accidentally deleted important GRUB data trying to make more room in the boot folder i think? So the computer would no longer boot up. Anyways, I installed a second Linux OS on the same laptop, but I am unable to access all of my important information that is still on the encrypted partition. When i go to mount it to access everything, it asks for the encryption password... however, it tells me the password is incorrect, which I know 100% that it is the correct password. Someone please help me! Inform me how I can access this encrypted partition or restore the data so that I can boot the computer in Zorin 7 again.
