  • Truncate text if it atempts to run into three lines

    I have a small about 140px wide aligned next to a picture. In total there is space for four lines of text. The first two lines are reserved for the title and there are two lines of other info. I want the title to be cut if it spans more than two lines else it will push the other info out of line with the bottom of the image. The only solution I could think of was to create a div the height of two lines with an overflow to hidden. However, if the title is only one line it leaves a big gap. The solution can be Jquery, plain javascript, CSS or even PHP (if its possible). TIA

  • What's the cross-browser way to capture all single clicks on a button?

    What's the best way to execute a function exactly once every time a button is clicked, regardless of click speed and browser? Simply binding a "click" handler works perfectly in all browsers except IE. In IE, when the user clicks too fast, only "dblclick" fires, so the "click" handler is never executed. Other browsers trigger both events so it's not a problem for them. The obvious solution/hack (to me at least) is to attach a dblclick handler in IE that triggers my click handler twice. Another idea is to track clicks myself with mousedown/mouseup, which seems pretty primitive and probably belongs in a framework rather than my application. So, what's the best/usual/right way of handling this? (pure javascript or jQuery preferred)

    I have this swf (flash) file that provides the json that needs to be sent to the server. I wrote a very simple jQuery: function submitForm(swf_json) { $('#swfjson').val(swf_json); #swfjson is an input of type hidden $('#titleForm').submit(); } and the swf will call the submitForm above and I receive the request.POST in django as usual. But, django is interpreting the swf_json as a string "Object object" >>>type(request.POST['swfjson']) <type 'unicode'> Of course I can pass the json as a string to the view function. Doesn't seem good to me. Any other way of passing the json object to the django view?

  • Where is the best place to put <script> tags in HTML markup?

    When embedding JavaScript in an HTML document, where is the best place to put the <script> tags and included JavaScript? I seem to recall that you are not supposed to place these in the <head> section, but placing at the beginning of the <body> section is bad, too, since the JavaScript will have to be parsed before the page is rendered completely (or something like that). This seems to leave the end of the <body> section as a logical place for <script> tags. So, where is the best place to put the <script> tags? (This question references this question, in which it was suggested that JavaScript function calls should be moved from <a> tags to <script> tags. I'm specifically using JQuery, but more general answers are also appropriate.)

    Hi there, I have a problem with dynamically added script element (using jQuery). Code for adding new script element to DOM is this: var pScript = document.createElement("script"); pScript.type = "text/javascript"; pScript.src = sFile; // Add element to the end of head element $("head").append(pScript); The script is added with no problem, and the code runs perfectly. But, the problem occurs when I try to find the newly added script. I use this code to iterate through all script elements: var bAdd = true; $("script").each(function() { if(this.src == sFile) bAdd = false; }); (I need this code to prevent adding script that is already loaded) Problem is that all other script elements have src attribute set, but the newly added (dynamically) has not... Any idea?

As you can see the div appears from left down corner but I would like to animate it from bottom to top.     Hi, I'm using this script for my online shopping basket: http://www.webresourcesdepot.com/fly-to-basket-effect-with-jquery/. Like people suggest in the comments it's easy buggy when you click multiple times on the same image. How can I disable the img link when it's clicked once and re-enable it when the product is added to the basket? I've tried setting the attribute HREF of to # in the beginning of the function, but that doesn't help. So when a user clicks the function needs to be executed, but the link should be disabled as long as the function is busy. thanks in advance for your help.

    I wanna high light particular div when the page.isvalid=false. on the pageload i am able to get display the error message. But the issue is that i am not able to highlight the control which is required. I have a js function which sets the error class to the div. Its working fine when i click on a button.     Hello to all. I need to implement parent page redirection from iframe. I know that it is impossible to do in different domains due to browsers security. However I found that links have target attribute and tried to use it in the following way: <a href="http://google.com" target="_top" id="testParentRedirect">someLink</a> It works fine if I click this link manually, but I couldn't find cross-browser solution to simulate it using javascript. document.getElementById('testParentRedirect').click(); This works fine in IE, however Firefox and Safary don't know click function :). I tried to work with jquery, but for some reason they don't simulate click event for links. (see following post) I couldn't find any appropriate solution on stackoverflow. Maybe someone could help me in it. I will appreciate it. :)

  • Pre-load audio files at the client-side for later use

    I'm building an online test which implements audio (mp3) using the native audio player (i.e. non Flash-based). The test shows one question at a time and loads each subsequent question asynchronously. Some questions have an accompanying audio file, others don't, and the audio files can be several MB in size. So what I'm hoping to do is to preload the audio files client-side at the start of the test and then move these into place when the relevant question comes up. So far I've tried loading an audio file into a QuickTime player, then when that question comes up I use jQuery's clone(true) method to copy this into a part of the page which is displayed. However, when I do this the QuickTime player has to reload the audio file from source. Same is true for Windows Media Player. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can preload the audio client-side and then call it forward when needed?

  • The best way to deploy one site for two companies in ColdFusion?

    My client has multiple companies; different names/logos etc, but all the content on the sites are identical with the exception of said names/logos. In a ColdFusion environment, what would be the best way for me to serve up identical content and swap out the logos/company names on the fly so I can keep everything in one spot? Is this a jQuery solution? regex? Or will ColdFusion enable me to deploy this in an efficient manner based on the url and session variables?

    Hi Can somebody fill me in on JavaScript Testing Frameworks? I'm working on a project now and as the JS (Mostly jQuery) libraries grow, it's getting more and more difficult to introduce change or refactor, because I have no way of guaranteeing the accuracy of the code without manually testing everything. I don't really know anything about JavaScript Testing Frameworks, or how they integrate/operate in a .Net project, so I thought I'd ask here. What would a good testing framework be for .Net? What does a JavaScript test look like? (e.g. with NUnit, I have [TestFixture] classes & [Test] methods in a ProjectTests assembly) How do I run a javascript test? What are the conceptual differences between testing JS & testing C#? Is there anything else that would be worth knowing? Thanks Dave

  • How can I determine img width/height of dynamically loaded images in IE?

    My markup is a simple div element with id 'load'. Using jQuery I then load a list of image elements into this div: $('#load').load('images.html', { }, function() { $(this).onImagesLoad({ selectorCallback: function() { ....do something.... } }); }); where images.html is a list like this: <img src='1.jpg' caption='img 1'> <img src='2.jpg' caption='img 2'> ... To ensure that all images are loaded completely, I use the onImagesLoad plugin. This, so far, works just fine on all browsers. However, on IE8 (and I assume other versions of IE also) when I then iterate over the img elements, I am unable to determine the width/height of the images loaded. The image.context.naturalWidth and naturalHeight attributes don't seem to work. How do I get a hold of the images' dimension? Thanks heaps :)

  • HTML: When i hide a textbox in a Table, is it expected that the table reformats the space?

    Hi, i have a input type=text in a table (in a TD actually) When a user clicks a checkbox, the input is hidden with Jquery (via the hide method) This makes the style of the input to "display:none;" So far so good. Now, when that has happened, the row where the cell is in is shrunk (the height is lowered) because the only thing left in the row is a <span>, which height is lower than the input height. The net result of this is that the row gets smaller, and when you click the checkbox again the input re-appers and the row gets larger. That doesn't look so nice, so i wondered if there was a way to prevent this? And second: is this the way it should work (the table resizing)?

    Hi guys, I'm fairly new to web development, so please pardon the painfully newbie question that's about to follow. My computer science class group and I are developing a web application for class, which is built in Python (under Django) and uses jQuery on the front end. It's primarily an AJAX-ified application, and passing data from the backend to the front end is done through AJAX calls to specific URLs which return JSON. This is probably a stupid question, but what's the conventional approach for passing data in the opposite direction? We don't want to reload the page or anything, so is it an AJAX pass going the other way or something? Thanks in advance for your help!

The problem is that I only want full images. If there is not enough space for another duplicate, it should NOT be shown. I've never heard that CSS provides a rule for it. For example: Pre-built partial(s) (w/ or w/o Twitter / FB buttons) Partial(s) that utilize jQuery Twitter and / or FB tunnels (push to the users twitter / FB when they comment) Pre-built mechanism for pushing other users comments to users viewing that Model I can see how some of this functionality could be app specific, however, a generic implementation seems like it would be useful. I'm curious if something like this exists or not.

    I have a image map set up and each area in the image map has a href defined. the href on area contains urls to other pages in my application. i generate a have a small ul which lists down name attribute of the area tag. i want the dynamically generated ul/lis to imitate click behaviour of area tag. for this, i have the following jquery set up - $('li').click(function(e){ $('area[name='+$(this).html()+']').trigger('click'); }); but the above works well only in ie6+. ff does not fire the click event. i also tried the click() variant but to no avail. looking forward for some help.   • How can I close a SimpleModal dialog when the user clicks the Back button?

    When a user clicks on a button or link, I use the SimpleModal jQuery plugin to display a dialog to overlay the entire page, preventing the user from clicking another button or link during the delay before the next page loads. (I'd like to avoid this, but that's an issue for another day.) After the next page displays, if the user clicks the Back button, the previous page still has the SimpleModal overlay displayed, preventing them from using the page. This is a problem. How can I cause the SimpleModal dialog to close automatically either when the leaves the page or when the user clicks the Back button to return to the page? I tried this without success: $("body").unload(function() { $.modal.close(); }); Thanks! Wally
