• VS2010 Custom Code Analysis Rule

  I'm trying to write a custom fxcop rule for mstest projects VS2010. I'd like to debug it but keep getting an exception when it tries to load the dll for the mstest project it fails stating that it can't find referenced assembly: Microsoft.FxCop.Common.AssemblyLoadException Could not load C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\20100106-CodeAnalysisRulesBlogDemo\BlogDemo\TestProject1\bin\Debug\TestProject1.dll. Microsoft.FxCop.Sdk.InvalidMetadataException The following error was encountered while reading module 'TestProject1': Assembly reference cannot be resolved: Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.UnitTestFramework, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? If I just run the code analysis it works fine but as soon as I try to debug it fails. Thanks

  i am trying to deploy rails3 apps with the latest phusion passenger 2.2.11 and ruby-enterprise-1.8.7-2010.01. i am using bundler, but passenger seems to not be able to find the .bundle dir. error message: git://github.com/rails/rails.git (at master) is not checked out. Please run `bundle install` (Bundler::PathError) where do i install the .bundle? where do i tell passenger which bundle to use? any hints? thanks!

  I'm trying to use XDocument and XPathEvaluate to get values from the woot.com feed. There were some issues with the relationships, so I started to tweak things around, but I kept getting the following error for simple one-to-one relationships Error 1 Error 113: Multiplicity is not valid in Role 'UserProfile' in relationship 'FK_UserProfiles_Users'. Because the Dependent Role properties are not the key properties, the upper bound of the multiplicity of the Dependent Role must be *. myEntities.edmx 2024 My Users table is consists of some other many-to-many relationships to other tables, but when I try to make a one-to-one relationship with other tables, that error pops up. • Resolving MSB3247 - Found conflicts between different versions of the same dependent assembly

  A .NET 3.5 solution ended up with this warning when compiling with msbuild. Sometimes NDepend might help out but in this case it didn't give any further details. Like Bob I ended up having to resort to opening each assembly in ILDASM until I found the one that was referencing an older version of the dependant assembly. I did try using MSBUILD from VS 2010 Beta 2 (as the Connect article indicated this was fixed in the next version of the CLR) but that didn't provide any more detail either (maybe fixed post Beta 2) Is there a better (more automated) approach?

• DirectX application doesn't work over Remote Desktop

  I have a WPF application which has a DirectX component within it. This component does not work over Remote Desktop--it just shows a corrupted image. The application works fine when not using Remote Desktop. In trying to debug the problem I installed the February 2010 DirectX SDK. Now, when I run the program on the computer with the SDK and Remote Desktop to it from a separate computer, the component works just fine. However the opposite does not work--trying to use the application over Remote Desktop when it is running on the computer without the DirectX SDK (it has the original problem with the corrupted image). I have already compared the loaded DLLs (using Process Explorer) between running the application on my SDK machine and non-SDK machine. They both are loading the same DLL versions. What else could be causing this behavior?

  I've just installed Visual Studio 2010 and have created a new MVC2 project so that I can learn about the changes and updates and have discovered an issue with areas that I'm not sure what to make of. I created a new EMPTY MVC2 project I right clicked the project and, from the context menu, added a new area called "Test" In the new test area, I added a controller called "Data". The code is: public class DataController : Controller { // // GET: /Test/Data/ public ActionResult Index() { Response.Write("Hi"); return new EmptyResult(); } } Now, I compile and call this address: http://localhost/mytest/test/data and get the output: Hi All good. Now I call this: http://localhost/mytest/data and get the same response! I thought routing was supposed to take care of this? Am I overlooking something? Or has the default project setup for MVC2 overlooked something?

  For some unknown reason OracleXETNSListener won't start which prevents SQL Developer from connecting to it. C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora and C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames both have correct hostname. • VS 11 Beta Cannot start process because a file name has not been provided

  This is what I'm getting when I build my Test project: With this I'm unable to run my tests since they're not being discovered by VS. See the message "Unexpected error detected. Check the Tests Output Pane for details." at the window bottom. Now if you look at the Tests OUTPUT pane you'll have no clue about what's the problem. This is extremely helpful... :) I know VS 11 is in beta but it used to work... I've already restarted VS but it didn't work after that too. Any ideas about what's going on? Would it be a bug somewhere? Note: the only thing I can think is related with VS 2010 uninstall I did sometime ago. Maybe it uninstalled some necessary bits. Beats me...

Todas essas melhorias estão agora online em produção e disponíveis para serem usadas imediatamente. Nova Camada Escalonável "Compartilhada" A Windows Azure permite que você implante e hospede até 10 websites em um ambiente gratuito e compartilhado com múltiplas aplicações. Você pode começar a desenvolver e testar websites sem nenhum custo usando este modo compartilhado (gratuito). O modo compartilhado suporta a capacidade de executar sites que servem até 165MB/dia de conteúdo (5GB/mês). Todas as capacidades que introduzimos em Junho com esta camada gratuita permanecem inalteradas com a atualização de hoje. • First TDD, Simple 2-tier C# Project - what do I unit test?

  This is probably a stupid question but my googling isn't finding a satisfactory answer. I'm starting a small project in C#, with just a business layer and a data access layer - strangely, the UI will come later, and I have very little (read:no) concept / control over what it will look like. I would like to try TDD for this project. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 (soon to be 2010), I have ReSharper 5, and nUnit. Again, I want to do Test-Driven Development, but not necessarily the entire XP system. My question is - when and where do I write the first unit test? Do I only test logic before I write it, or do I test everything? It seems counter-productive to test things that have no reason to fail (auto-properties, empty constructors)...but it seems like the "No new code without a failing test" maxim requires this. Links or references are fine (but preferably to online resources, not books - I would like to get started ASAP). Thanks in advance for any guidance!

The chart just start loading for a second and the loader animation disappear and nothing happening (Only a black swf area). i've downloaded the latest version which is 2 and here is my folders scheme: // ROOT // ?   Hello everyone there, Me and my mates have been given an Excel spreasheet,which contains the data of the Census report. The column here corresponds to "Year" (from 2000-2010),the row means "City/Town",the cell is simply the population of a town at a particular year. We are up to doing some analysis like “what town had its first population gain in 10 years?” etc.My question is just about can we do this in Excel,or do we need to export the data to other database(SQL) then do the programming?   What is the difference between DVCS systems? Seriously, wikipedia doesn't cover it well, and I read an article on HN recently comparing git and bzr in some detail, but the author admitted knowing little about mercurial, and the other options didn't get mentioned. (I'm happily using fossil on small win/mac/Linux projects) Please restrict answers to the DVCS aspects of the tool, e.g. The basic unit of vc in hit is the repository- in bazaar it is the branch(http://unspecified.wordpress.com/2010/03/26/why-git-aint-better-than-x/). bugtrackers and wikis are nice, but I'm really interested in the tools themselves, rather than any extras. Unfortunately SO demands a single 'right answer', so I'm making the question community wiki in the hope that users will contribute their knowledge.

• Dynamic Data Associate Related Table Value?

  I have create a LINQ-to-SQL project in Visual Studio 2010 using Dynamic Data. In this project I have two tables. One is called phones_extension and the other phones_ten. The list of columns in phones_extension looks like this: id, extension, prefix, did_flag, len, ten_id, restriction_class_id, sfc_id, name_display, building_id, floor, room, phone_id, department_id In phones_ten it looks like this: id, name, pbxid Now, I'd like to be able to somehow make it so that there is an association (or inheritance?) that essentially results in me being able to make a query like phones_extension.ten and it gives me the result of phones_ten.name. Right now I have to get phones_extension.ten_id and then match that against phones_ten.id - I'm trying to get the DBML to handle this translation automatically. Is this possible?

• Supplementary Developer Laptop

  I'm looking to buy a laptop with the following specs for a developer. The goal will be to have a development machine supplementing the devs desktop. During work hours the dev will be on a beefy desktop. For working while on the go: trains, client sites, code camps, it would be nice to have a machine which can run Visual Studio 2008 without needing to remote desktop into their primary machine. What do you think is the lowest cost laptop meeting this need? Here are the specs I have in mind: SSD drive 64GB-doesn't need to be huge, most data is stored on servers. Will need to fit Windows 7, IIS, SQL Server, and Visual Studio 2010. RAM-3GB processor =Pentium Core 2 duo Screen size = 14 inches. OS doesn't matter. It will be paved with Windows 7 Ultimate optical drive omitted would be a plus. weight and battery life aren't so important because the machine will be plugged in almost all the time.

• jQuery(document).ready doesn't run under IIS7

  To simplify this test case, I created a new default .NET MVC project in Visual Studio 2010, and added the following code to the HTML header in Site.Master: <script type="text/javascript" src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function () { alert('jQuery document ready'); }); </script> This works as expected in the .NET development server. However, when deployed to IIS7, the jQuery(document).ready function is not executed. Needless to say, my actual application is much more complicated. This eliminates all "suspects" except IIS7 deployment. Any thoughts/suggestions?

• How can I convert .eps files to .jpg in ASP.NET?

  I am trying to convert uploaded .eps files to .jpg in my ASP.net application and I am having a hard time finding a .net library that will let me do this. I have tried using the ImageMagick libraries, but I don't have root access to the server in order to install the standard binaries, or run the command line executables. I have also tried the slightly modified project from CodeProject, but it was designed in VS2005 and I have VS2008 and 2010 and I think I run into some compatibility issues while trying to compile and execute the project. Is there a simpler solution available that just works natively in .NET? Thanks, Mike

  I am having a problem with my code. I am using VB.NET and Visual Studio 2010 to write my program. The source of the control that I am using can be found here. First, I imported the Calendar.DayView.dll file into my toolbox to use as a control. Then I added the following code to my existing code: Private Sub DayView1_NewAppointment(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal args As Calendar.NewAppointmentEventArgs) Dim appointment As New Calendar.Appointment() appointment.StartDate = args.StartDate appointment.EndDate = args.EndDate appointment.Title = args.Title appointments.Add(appointment) End Sub I get this error 'Title' is not a member of 'Calendar.Appointment'. I have no access to the Calendar namespace or the Appointment class. I am able to view the properties of both in the Object Browser but I can't edit any of them. Any suggestions?
