  • Change URL of WebBrowser in C#

    I am designing a simple application using c# and it has a web browser in it. I need to either (preferably) refresh the page that is currently inside the broswer, or navigate to a "new" url. I tried Browser.Url = new Uri("http://www.pandora.com/"); but I get an error when I try to compile it. Error 1 Cannot implicitly convert type 'string' to 'System.Uri' c:\users\sean\documents\visual studio 2010\Projects\Pandora\Pandora\Form1.cs 51 27 Pandora What am I doing wrong?

  • ClearType setting ignored in Windows Virtual PC with Windows XP Pro

    I have a VM set up through Windows Virtual PC for Windows XP Pro and I have been completely unable to get ClearType to work. I have turned it on in the Display - Appearance - Effects dialog but it seems like it completely ignores this. All text is still without any anti-aliasing. Even setting it to normal smoothing doesn't work. If I disable Integration Features, it seems to work, but then I lose a lot of nice features. What's weirder, is that the Windows XP Mode installed with Windows Virtual PC (this is separate from my XP Pro VM) works with both ClearType and Integration Features just fine. I turned it on the same way and it works like a charm, no problems. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit as the host OS and have the latest (to my knowledge) Windows Virtual PC installed. The only funny business I can think of is that I've enabled 24-bit color via the Group Policy setting inside each XP virtual machine (both Pro and the stripped down XP mode copy). This is a fairly well-known trick documented all over the web, but here's a typical post about it.

    I've been looking for a good book for windows shell programming, and the only one I could find is Visual C++ Windows Shell Programming by Dino Eposito: http://www.wintellect.com/BookInformation.aspx?ASIN=1861001843 It is an old book, and I'd like to know if you know of any good resources which could help. I need to develop a couple of windows explorer extensions, and apparently managed code is not recommended by Microsoft at least for some of these tasks.   • Attempts at NIC teaming on Server 2008 R2 with PRO/1000 MT

    I have a Dell PowerEdge 1850 server and a gigabit switch that supports nic teaming (and was configured to do so). The server has a total of four Intel PRO/1000 MT ports, which also support teaming. But.. for some reason Intel does not actually have a version of the drivers/ProSet that will work for these cards on 2008 R2. You have to use the built-in drivers that come with 2008 R2, which do not support the additional features. According to their website, they have no plans to change this. Strangely enough, I experimented with various drivers in an attempt to force it to work. At one point, the teaming was working, but there were side effects (such as the DNS server refusing to start). So now I am back to running just one of the cards, (very) frustrated about the whole situation. I have looked all over to see if there is some way around this, but have not had any success. I know I can probably just get a new network adapter for it, but with the good deal I got, that would cost more than the server! :) While staying with 2008 R2, does anyone know of any possible alternatives? But when I copy and register the extension in BI Development Studio, it gives me an error message while loading the extension".   • ASP.Net Webservice - Constructors with Parameters

    Hi, I'm fairly new to WebService developement and have just set up my own webservice (ASP.Net 3.5, Visual Studio 2008 .asmx file). I can not find a way of setting up my webservice to take parameters on the constructor. If i create a constructor that takes parameters, it is not then shown when i hook up to the webservice from my application (it only shows a parameterless constructor). Am i missing something blatently obvious, or is this not possible (and why not)? Thanks.

    SA1124 DoNotUseRegions suggest that region should not be used anywhere. Is it really reasonable? I think region is a way to group relative code together and make large class easy to read, for example, if you generate interface method in for class, a region will be automatically inserted by visual studio. I would like to remove this rule while checking code style. May I know your ideal on this rule?

  • NTFS: Deny all permissions for all files, except where explicitly added

    I'm running a sandboxed application as a local user. I now want to deny almost all file system permissions for this user to secure the system, except for a few working folders and some system DLLs (I'll call this set of files & directories X below). The sandbox user is not in any group. So it shouldn't have any permissions, right? Wrong, because all "Authenticated Users" are a member of the local "Users" group, and that group has access to almost everything. I thought about recursively adding deny ACL-entries to all files and directories and remove them manually from X. But this seems excessive. I also thought about removing "Authenticated Users" from the "Users" group. But I'm afraid of unintended side-effects. It's likely that other things rely on this. Is this correct? Are there better ways to do this? How would you limit the filesystem permissions of a (very) non-trustworthy account?
