  The new Java Enterprise Edition 6 (EE6) exams are being released into production, effective today (February 21, 2011). If you participated in the beta exams, we appreciate your patience in awaiting your beta scores (there were some initial technical difficulties with these exams that delayed beta review and scoring). While most of the production exams are currently available and most of the beta scores have been mailed, they are not 100% completed. • Ambiguous in the namespace problem

  From the last few days, I was ignoring an error that keep coming at the compile time. I spent some two hours on it before but didn’t get it work. The error is quit confusing and of course difficult to manage. 'ApplicationSettingsBase' is ambiguous in the namespace 'System.Configuration' 'MailMessage' is ambiguous in the namespace 'System.Net.Mail' And there are couple of other similar errors that is pointing to some ambiguous references in my project.  The confusing part is that the MailMessage object throws similar error when you are importing the old and new email namespace. For example, Imports System.Web.Mail Imports System.Net.Mail So if you are only encountering ambiguous problem in MailMessage object. It is more possible that you have define both the namespaces in your code behind which is actually confusing the compiler about your referencing object. The quick solve for this problem is that remove Imports System.Web.Mail and it should work smooth. But with me, I never used the old asp.net mail namespace in my project. Then I start looking at my references and luckily I found the problem there. Follow the steps below to investigate the issue 1. Go to your project 2. Then references 3. Right click on “System” and see properties. it should point to the following path x:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\System.dll Where x is name of your operating system directory. This was the problem with my project. I had my operating system install on “D” drive and some how it is pointing to “C” drive which is the root cause of this problem. After that I verify all my references and found 5 –6 assemblies that are pointing to wrong path and get it worked. Also note, the problem can occur in any type of project either it is website , web application etc.

  Historically, data was generated from predictable sources, stored in storage systems and accessed for further processing. This data was correlated, filtered and analyzed to derive insights and/or drive well constructed processes. There was little ambiguity in the kinds of data, the sources it would originate from and the routes that it would follow. Internet of Things (IoT) creates many opportunities to extract value from data that result in significant improvements across industries such as Automotive, Industrial Manufacturing, Smart Utilities, Oil and Gas, High Tech and Professional Services, etc. This demo showcases how the health of remotely deployed machinery can be monitored to illustrate how data coming from devices can be analyzed in real-time, integrated with back-end systems and visualized to initiate action as may be necessary. Use-case: Remote Service and Maintenance Critical machinery once deployed on the field, is expected to work with minimal failures, while delivering high performance and reliability. In typical remote monitoring and industrial automation scenarios, although many physical objects from machinery to equipment may already be “smart and connected,” they are typically operated in a standalone fashion and not integrated into existing business processes. IoT adds an interesting dynamic to remote monitoring in industrial automation solutions in that it allows equipment to be monitored, upgraded, maintained and serviced in ways not possible before.   Last week I had the pleasure to write a guest post on the Oracle WebCenter blog  with the topic The Power of Social Recommendations where I described Implicit and Explicit Social Recommendations models and how they relate to a Social Engagement Strategy. Now let's look at a real live example. Apple has implemented an explicit Social Network model with So what ?   With the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa almost a week underway, the soccer fans all around the World are talking about at least 2 things. That typical vuvuzela sound and the new Jabulani ball, saying it moves unpredictably, is difficult to handle and somehow the altitude of the World Cup stadiums also seem to be a contributing factor.(Picture taken from http://www.flickr.com/photos/warrenski/4143923059/ under a Creative Commons license)Although the FIFA states that it hasn't received any official complaints, the end users don't seem to be very happy with this new ball. This brings me to a comparison with IT management and testing. When you're in a situation where you're introducing a new product, in IT terms, introducing a new application, you would like to test all possible scenarios that your end users could be using and experiencing. However, that's a very time and resource intensive process to do for every application change or update.  It's like getting ready for the big game but you have no game plan.That's why a new approach has been developed. One that's based on the 80/20 rule. Testing 80% of the application will cost about 20% of the efforts. The remaining 20% of your application will not be tested before deployment, but monitored with a real user monitoring solution immediately after deployment. These tools track all user experiences, including error messages and the performance and availability metrics from an end user perspective. • Someone using my website for Email and significant increase in spam

  Let me give you the background in context so that you know the full story. Last summer my web guy (he put my website together) got in a fight with someone who attempted to register on my site using the name of my company as part of his user name. I was not aware of this at all until it had escalated dramatically. I don't know why my web guy was so unprofessional in his response to this person. I really don't know him - met him via SCORE and have never met in person. He is a vendor. Anyway, this guy who got into it with my web guy then threatened to do all he could to hurt my business and said he was internet savvy, etc. So, nothing seemed to happen for a while then not long ago this guy attempted to send me a friend request on Linkedin. After his behavior I declined it. Shortly afterwards I began seeing a dramatic increase in spammers posting comments on the blog part of my site. Just lately I have been receiving Emails from a variety of names but all with the "@___" that I own - for my business. I had additional security added so now they have to register in order to comment on my blog and I am seeing a lot of registration attempts from the same (and similar) IP addresses with bogus names and weird Email addresses being blocked. So, it is not creating more work as it is all automatic. The Email addresses are of more concern. Is there a way to identify a person through an IP address or a place to report the behavior or the Email usage? This guy lives in South Carolina so he is not overseas. Any help/advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Joy

  TRADACOMS is an initial standard for EDI. Predominantly used in the retail sector of United Kingdom. This is similar to EDIFACT messaging system, involving ecs file for translation and validation of messages. The slight difference between EDIFACT and TRADACOMS is, 1. TRADACOMS is a simpler version than EDIFACT 2. There is no Functional Acknowledgment in TRADACOMS 3. Since it is just a business message to be sent to the trading partner, the various reference numbers at STX, BAT, MHD level need not be persisted in B2B as there is no Business logic gets derived out of this. Considering this, in AS11 B2B, this can be handled out of the box using Positional Flat file document plugin. Since STX, BAT segments which define the envelope details , and part of transaction, has to be sent from the back end application itself as there is no Document protocol parameters defined in B2B. These would include some of the identifiers like SenderCode, SenderName, RecipientCode, RecipientName, reference numbers. Additionally the batching in this case be achieved by sending all the messages of a batch in a single xml from backend application, containing total number of messages in Batch as part of EOB (Batch trailer )segment. In the case of inbound scenario, we can identify the document based on start position and end position of the incoming document. • How to factor out data layer in nopCommerce and replace MS SQL with RavenDB?

  I am new to nopCommerce and ecommerce in general but I am involved in an ecommerce project. Now from my past experiences with RavenDB (which mostly were absolutely pleasant) and based on the needs of the business (fast changes with awkward business workflows) It seemed to be an appealing option to have RavenDB handling all sort of things related to the database. I do not understand design and architecture of nopCommerce fully so I did not reach to a conclusion on how to factor data parts, since it seems the services layer actually does not abstract data-layer concepts away; like bringing in EF working model to other layers. I have found another project which used NuDB as it's database as a nopCommerce fork. But it did not help because NuDB still has the feeling of a RDBMS and is not as different as RavenDB. Now first how can I learn about the internals of nopCommerce (other than investigating the code)? It's workflows? It's conventions? Second has anyone tried something similar before with a NoSQL database (say like MongoDB or RavenDB)? Is it possible to achieve this in a 1 (~2) month time frame? Thanks in advance;

• JavaScript objects and Crockford's The Good Parts

  I've been thinking quite a bit about how to do OOP in JS, especially when it comes to encapsulation and inheritance, recently. According to Crockford, classical is harmful because of new(), and both prototypal and classical are limited because their use of constructor.prototype means you can't use closures for encapsulation. Recently, I've considered the following couple of points about encapsulation: Encapsulation kills performance. It makes you add functions to EACH member object rather than to the prototype, because each object's methods have different closures (each object has different private members). Encapsulation forces the ugly "var that = this" workaround, to get private helper functions to have access to the instance they're attached to. Either that or make sure you call them with privateFunction.apply(this) everytime. Are there workarounds for either of two issues I mentioned? if not, do you still consider encapsulation to be worth it? Sidenote: The functional pattern Crockford describes doesn't even let you add public methods that only touch public members, since it completely forgoes the use of new() and constructor.prototype. Wouldn't a hybrid approach where you use classical inheritance and new(), but also call Super.apply(this, arguments) to initialize private members and privileged methods, be superior?
