  • Genetic Programming Online Learning

    - by Lirik
Has anybody seen a GP implemented with online learning rather than the standard offline learning? I've done some stuff with genetic programs and I simply can't figure out what would be a good way to make the learning process online. Please let me know if you have any ideas, seen any implementations, or have any references that I can look at.

  • Setup a https client in Java

    - by Albinoswordfish
I'm very new to HTTPS/SSL so excuse my lack of knowledge. Right now I'm trying to setup a simple Java client in which it connects to a web server through HTTPS. I've seen some example code online but can't seem to really make sense of it. Also I was wondering if there is a difference between setting it up on a Windows machine compared to another type of OS. If anybody knows a good tutorial on this or can head me towards the right direction it would be appreciated.

  • PHP: Does $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH'] exist or not?

    - by Hank
All over the Internet, included even here at StackOverlow, people state that a good way to check if a request is AJAX or not is to do the following: strtolower($_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH']) == 'xmlhttprequest' ) However, I don't see $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH'] in the official PHP documentation And when I try to do the following: echo $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH']; Nothing is outputted. Am I doing something wrong? Because I'd really like to be able to use $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH'] if it's available.

  • Learn C first before learning Objective-C

    - by Lark
Being an aspiring Apple developer, I want to get the opinions of the community if it is better to learn C first before moving into Objective-C and ultimately the Cocoa Framework? My gut says learn C, which will give me a good foundation.

  • Indenting c++ in visual studio.

    - by Pradyot
I am using Visual Studio 2005 team edition. I come from a unix background using gvim. It would appear that formatting/indenting code seems to be a lot harder. Can anyone suggest a good option. VI with its autoindent/smartindent settings spoilt me. thanks

  • What Implementation of Forth to use for Learning Forth

    - by Peter Kofler
I want to start learning Forth (like in this related article). I see that there are many implementations. I would like to use a ANS 1994 compatible version (if reasonable, but sticking to the standard might be good) small and compact implementation, I don't want a full OS. Windows easy to use, I am new to Forth ;-) Can anybody recommend any particular implementation?

  • Emacs comment-region in C mode

    - by Kinopiko
In GNU Emacs, is there a good way to change the comment-region command in C mode from /* This is a comment which extends */ /* over more than one line in C. */ to /* This is a comment which extends over more than one line in C. */ ? I have tried (setq comment-multi-line t) but this does not help. There is a section on multi-line comments in the Emacs manual, but it does not mention anything.

  • C++ (And other languages) - Learning from source code examples.

    - by Gabe
I found that the most effective way for me to learn html and css was to simply find a site, right click, view the source code, and see how it worked. I'm in the process of learning c++ and I think examples/source code to look through would help me a good deal. So, how can I do this? Are there online sites that serve this purpose? Any other recommendations on learning would be great, too.

  • GWT Table that supports dynamic filtering

    - by Holograham
This question is similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/161686/gwt-table-that-supports-sorting-scrolling-and-filtering However I would prefer open source and I am looking for snappy performance. I want a good way to perform dynamic filtering on rows. SmartGWT's adaptive filter looks interesting. http://www.smartclient.com/smartgwt/showcase/#grid_adaptive_filter_featured_category Anyone have any experience with this?

  • Will this force a reinitialize in Merge Replication Topology?

    - by Refracted Paladin
I need to add a couple of columns to a table that is a part of a replication set. It is not a constraint coulumn or a part of any article filters and it allows NULL. I have a pretty good idea that I can run this -- ALTER TABLE tblPlanDomain ADD ReportWageES VARCHAR (100) NULL and NOT force all my clients to reinitialize but I was hoping for some reassurance. Can anyone verify this one way or the other for me? Thanks,

  • How do you clear the focus in javascript?

    - by Andres
I know this shouldn't be that hard, but I couldn't find the answer on Google. I want to execute a piece of javascript that will clear the focus from whatever element it is on without knowing ahead of time which element the focus is on. It has to work on firefox 2 as well as more modern browsers. Is there a good way to do this?

  • Sparse constrained linear least-squares solver

    - by Jacob
This great SO answer points to a good sparse solver, but I've got constraints on x (for Ax = b) such that each element in x is >=0 an <=N. The first thing which comes to mind is an QP solver for large sparse matrices. Also, A is huge (around 2e6x2e6) but very sparse with <=4 elements per row. Any ideas/recommendations? I'm looking for something like MATLAB's lsqlin but with huge sparse matrices.

  • What (pure) Python library to use for AES 256 encryption?

    - by Daren Thomas
I am looking for a (preferably pure) python library to do AES 256 encription and decryption. This library should support the CBC cipher mode and use PKCS7 padding according to the answer to an earlier question of mine. The library should at least work on Mac OS X (10.4) and Windows XP. Ideally just by dropping it into the source directory of my project. I have seen this by Josh Davis, but am not sure about how good it is and if it does the required CBC cipher mode... Scanning the source suggests it doesn't

  • Algorithm to compare people names to detect identicalness

    - by Pentium10
I am working on address book synchronization algorithm. I would like to reuse some code if there exists, but couldn't find one yet. Does someone know about an algorithm that will tell me in numbers/float/procent how much two names are identical. Levenstein distance is not good in this approach, as names and our adddress books are matching the begining of each of the name sections. John Smith should match Smith Jon, Jonathan Smith, Johnny Smith
