  • does Entity Framework have a caching mechanism like DataSet/DataTables have?

    - by Greg
Hi, does Entity Framework have a caching mechanism like DataSet/DataTables have? In other words if you start using EF is it really just a way to easily get data in/out of the database without providing an additional caching layer like DataSet/DataTables did where you have an in-memory representation (on-line/off-line) and which at some point you could say to "persist all changes to database"

  • WIX will not add HKLM registry setting during Windows 7 install

    - by Scott Boettger
    Good Morning, I have written a WiX installer that works perfectly with Windows XP but when installing to a Windows 7 box I am running into difficulty with Registry Entries. What I need to do is add a HKLM entry as well as the registry entry for the program to show in the start menu. Here is the code i am using for both types of entry: <!-- Create the registry entries for the program --> <DirectoryRef Id="TARGETDIR"> <Component Id="RegistryEntriesInst" Guid="..."> <RegistryKey Root="HKLM" Key="Software\$(var.Manufacturer)\$(var.ProductName)" Action="createAndRemoveOnUninstall"> <RegistryValue Type="string" Name="installed" Value="true" KeyPath="yes"/> </RegistryKey> </Component> <Component Id="RegistryEntriesVer" Guid="..."> <RegistryKey Root="HKLM" Key="Software\$(var.Manufacturer)\$(var.ProductName)" Action="createAndRemoveOnUninstall"> <RegistryValue Type="string" Name="version" Value="$(var.ProductVersion)" KeyPath="yes"/> </RegistryKey> </Component> </DirectoryRef> <!-- To add shortcuts to the start menu to run and uninstall the program--> <DirectoryRef Id="ApplicationProgramsFolder"> <Component Id="ApplicationShortcut" Guid="..."> <Shortcut Id="ApplicationStartMenuShortcut" Name="$(var.ProductName)" Description="..." Target="[SERVERLOCATION]$(var.Project.TargetFileName)" WorkingDirectory="SERVERLOCATION"/> <Shortcut Id="UninstallProduct" Name="Uninstall $(var.ProductName)" Description="..." Target="[System64Folder]msiexec.exe" Arguments="/x [ProductCode]"/> <RemoveFolder Id="SERVERLOCATION" On="uninstall"/> <RegistryValue Root="HKCU" Key="Software\$(var.Manufacturer)\$(var.ProductName)" Name="installed" Type="integer" Value="1" KeyPath="yes"/> </Component> </DirectoryRef> Any help/suggestions that can be given will be appreciated. On a side note the registry permissions are the same on the XP and 7 computers. Thanks

  • UITableView not displaying parsed data

    - by Graeme
I have a UITableView which is setup in Interface Builder and connected properly to its class in Xcode. I also have a "Importer" Class which downloads and parses an RSS feed and stores the information in an NSMutableArray. However I have verified the parsing is working properly (using breakpoints and NSlog) but no data is showing in the UITable View. Any ideas as to what the problem could be? I'm almost out of them. It's based on the XML performance Apple example. Here's the code for TableView.h: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "IncidentsImporter.h" @class SongDetailsController; @interface CurrentIncidentsTableViewController : UITableViewController <IncidentsImporterDelegate>{ NSMutableArray *incidents; SongDetailsController *detailController; UITableView *ctableView; IncidentsImporter *parser; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *incidents; @property (nonatomic, retain, readonly) SongDetailsController *detailController; @property (nonatomic, retain) IncidentsImporter *parser; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITableView *ctableView; // Called by the ParserChoiceViewController based on the selected parser type. - (void)beginParsing; @end And the code for .m: #import "CurrentIncidentsTableViewController.h" #import "SongDetailsController.h" #import "Incident.h" @implementation CurrentIncidentsTableViewController @synthesize ctableView, incidents, parser, detailController; #pragma mark - #pragma mark View lifecycle - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.parser = [[IncidentsImporter alloc] init]; parser.delegate = self; [parser start]; UIBarButtonItem *refreshButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemRefresh target:self action:@selector(beginParsing)]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = refreshButton; [refreshButton release]; // Uncomment the following line to preserve selection between presentations. //self.clearsSelectionOnViewWillAppear = NO; // Uncomment the following line to display an Edit button in the navigation bar for this view controller. // self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = self.editButtonItem; } - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { NSIndexPath *selectedRowIndexPath = [ctableView indexPathForSelectedRow]; if (selectedRowIndexPath != nil) { [ctableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:selectedRowIndexPath animated:NO]; } } // This method will be called repeatedly - once each time the user choses to parse. - (void)beginParsing { NSLog(@"Parsing has begun"); //self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem.enabled = NO; // Allocate the array for song storage, or empty the results of previous parses if (incidents == nil) { NSLog(@"Grabbing array"); self.incidents = [NSMutableArray array]; } else { [incidents removeAllObjects]; [ctableView reloadData]; } // Create the parser, set its delegate, and start it. self.parser = [[IncidentsImporter alloc] init]; parser.delegate = self; [parser start]; • Books on Code Contracts in C# 4.0

    - by devoured elysium
Altough I've known Code Contracts for some time, as I've used it a bit in Java, I would like to start using them in C#, now that they are part of C# 4.0. I am looking on learning material, books or vids. Altough tutorials are also welcome, I'd like to have something comprehensive to read, not the typical "here's how you use Requires and here's how you use Ensures". I am looking for something that really stands out in this area. Thanks

  • Jini : single server with multiple clients

    - by user200340
Hi all, I have a question about how to make multiple clients can access a single file located on server side and keep the file consistent. I have a simple PhoneBook server-client Jini program running at the moment, and server only provides some getter functions to clients, such as getName(String number), getNumber(String name) from a PhoneBook class(serializable), phonebook data are stored in a text file (phonebook.txt) at the moment. I have tried to implement some functions allowing to write a new records into the phonebook.txt file. If the writing record (name) is existing, an integer number will be added into the writing record. for example the existing phonebook.txt is .... John 01-01010101 .... if the writing record is "John 01-12345678",then "John_1 01-12345678" will be writen into phonebook.txt However, if i start with two clients A and B (on the same machine using localhost), and A tries to write "John 01-11111111", B tries to write "John 01-22222222". The early record will be overwritten later record. So, there must be something i did complete wrong. My client and server code are just like Jini HelloWorld example. My server side code is . 1. LookupDiscovery with parameter new String[]{""}; 2. DiscoveryListener for LookupDiscovery 3. registrations are saved into a HashTable 4. for every discovered lookup service, i use registrar to register the ServiceItem, ServiceItem contains a null attributeSets, a null serviceId, and a service. The client code has: 1. LookupDiscovery with parameter new String[]{""}; 2. DiscoveryListener for LookupDiscovery 3. a ServiceTemplate with null attributeSets, a null serviceId and a type, the type is the interface class. 4. for each found ServiceRegistrar, if it can find the looking for ServiceTemplate, the returned Object is cast into the type of the interface class. I have tried to google more details, and i found JavaSpace could be the one i missed. But i am still not sure about it (i only start Jini for a very short time). So any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to play multiple audio sources simultaneously in Silverlight

    - by Shurup
I want to play simultaneous multiply audio sources in Silverlight. So I've created a prototype in Silverlight 4 that should play a two mp3 files containing the same ticks sound with an intervall 1 second. So these files must be sounded as one sound if they will be played together with any whole second offsets (0 and 1, 0 and 2, 1 and 1 seconds, etc.) I my prototype I use two MediaElement (me and me2) objects. DateTime startTime; private void Play_Clicked(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { me.SetSource(new FileStream(file1), FileMode.Open))); me2.SetSource(new FileStream(file2), FileMode.Open))); var timer = new DispatcherTimer { Interval = TimeSpan.FromMilliseconds(1) }; timer.Tick += RefreshData; timer.Start(); } First file should be played at 00:00 sec. and the second in 00:02 second. void RefreshData(object sender, EventArgs e) { if(me.CurrentState != MediaElementState.Playing) { startTime = DateTime. Now; me.Play(); return; } var elapsed = DateTime. Now - startTime; if(me2.CurrentState != MediaElementState.Playing && elapsed >= TimeSpan.FromSeconds(2)) { me2.Play(); ((DispatcherTimer)sender).Stop(); } } The tracks played every time different and not simultaneous as they should (as one sound). Addition: I've tested a code from the Bobby's answer. private void Play_Clicked(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { me.SetSource(new FileStream(file1), FileMode.Open))); me2.SetSource(new FileStream(file2), FileMode.Open))); // This code plays well enough. // me.Play(); // me2.Play(); // But adding the 2 second offset using the timer, // they play no simultaneous. var timer = new DispatcherTimer { Interval = TimeSpan.FromSeconds(2) }; timer.Tick += (source, arg) => { me2.Play(); ((DispatcherTimer)source).Stop(); }; timer.Start(); } Is it possible to play them together using only one MediaElement or any implementation of MediaStreamSource that can play multiply sources?

  • How to obtain position in file (byte-position) from java scanner?

    - by september2010
How to obtain a position in file (byte-position) from the java scanner? Scanner scanner = new Scanner(new File("file")); scanner.useDelimiter("abc"); scanner.hasNext(); String result = scanner.next(); and now: how to get the position of result in file (in bytes)? Using scanner.match().start() is not the answer, because it gives the position within internal buffer.

  • SIMPLE OpenSSL RSA Encryption in C/C++ is causing me headaches

    - by Josh
Hey guys, I'm having some trouble figuring out how to do this. Basically I just want a client and server to be able to send each other encrypted messages. This is going to be incredibly insecure because I'm trying to figure this all out so I might as well start at the ground floor. So far I've got all the keys working but encryption/decryption is giving me hell. I'll start by saying I am using C++ but most of these functions require C strings so whatever I'm doing may be causing problems. Note that on the client side I receive the following error in regards to decryption. error:04065072:rsa routines:RSA_EAY_PRIVATE_DECRYPT:padding check failed I don't really understand how padding works so I don't know how to fix it. Anywho here are the relevant variables on each side followed by the code. Client: RSA *myKey; // Loaded with private key // The below will hold the decrypted message unsigned char* decrypted = (unsigned char*) malloc(RSA_size(myKey)); /* The below holds the encrypted string received over the network. Originally held in a C-string but C strings never work for me and scare me so I put it in a C++ string */ string encrypted; // The reinterpret_cast line was to get rid of an error message. // Maybe the cause of one of my problems? if(RSA_private_decrypt(sizeof(encrypted.c_str()), reinterpret_cast<const unsigned char*>(encrypted.c_str()), decrypted, myKey, RSA_PKCS1_OAEP_PADDING)==-1) { cout << "Private decryption failed" << endl; ERR_error_string(ERR_peek_last_error(), errBuf); printf("Error: %s\n", errBuf); free(decrypted); exit(1); } Server: RSA *pkey; // Holds the client's public key string key; // Holds a session key I want to encrypt and send //The below will hold the encrypted message unsigned char *encrypted = (unsigned char*)malloc(RSA_size(pkey)); // The reinterpret_cast line was to get rid of an error message. // Maybe the cause of one of my problems? if(RSA_public_encrypt(sizeof(key.c_str()), reinterpret_cast<const unsigned char*>(key.c_str()), encrypted, pkey, RSA_PKCS1_OAEP_PADDING)==-1) { cout << "Public encryption failed" << endl; ERR_error_string(ERR_peek_last_error(), errBuf); printf("Error: %s\n", errBuf); free(encrypted); exit(1); } Let me once again state, in case I didn't before, that I know my code sucks but I'm just trying to establish a framework for understanding this. I'm sorry if this offends you veteran coders. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide!

  • Visual Studio T4 vs CodeSmith

    - by Jake
I've been using CodeSmith for the past 2 years and love what it does for me. However, I also know about T4 which is built in to Visual Studio and can do some pretty cool stuff too. Based on conversations with friends T4 in VS2010 T4 is going to be even better. So the question is: do I keep riding the CodeSmith bus or is it time to start converting all of my templates to T4?

  • How to avoid using duplicate savepoint names in nested transactions in nested stored procs?

    - by Gary McGill
I have a pattern that I almost always follow, where if I need to wrap up an operation in a transaction, I do this: BEGIN TRANSACTION SAVE TRANSACTION TX -- Stuff IF @error <> 0 ROLLBACK TRANSACTION TX COMMIT TRANSACTION That's served me well enough in the past, but after years of using this pattern (and copy-pasting the above code), I've suddenly discovered a flaw which comes as a complete shock. Quite often, I'll have a stored procedure calling other stored procedures, all of which use this same pattern. What I've discovered (to my cost) is that because I'm using the same savepoint name everywhere, I can get into a situation where my outer transaction is partially committed - precisely the opposite of the atomicity that I'm trying to achieve. I've put together an example that exhibits the problem. This is a single batch (no nested stored procs), and so it looks a little odd in that you probably wouldn't use the same savepoint name twice in the same batch, but my real-world scenario would be too confusing to post. CREATE TABLE Test (test INTEGER NOT NULL) BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX INSERT INTO Test(test) VALUES (1) COMMIT TRAN TX BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX INSERT INTO Test(test) VALUES (2) COMMIT TRAN TX DELETE FROM Test ROLLBACK TRAN TX COMMIT TRAN TX SELECT * FROM Test DROP TABLE Test When I execute this, it lists one record, with value "1". In other words, even though I rolled back my outer transaction, a record was added to the table. What's happening is that the ROLLBACK TRANSACTION TX at the outer level is rolling back as far as the last SAVE TRANSACTION TX at the inner level. Now that I write this all out, I can see the logic behind it: the server is looking back through the log file, treating it as a linear stream of transactions; it doesn't understand the nesting/hierarchy implied by either the nesting of the transactions (or, in my real-world scenario, by the calls to other stored procedures). So, clearly, I need to start using unique savepoint names instead of blindly using "TX" everywhere. But - and this is where I finally get to the point - is there a way to do this in a copy-pastable way so that I can still use the same code everywhere? Can I auto-generate the savepoint name on the fly somehow? Is there a convention or best-practice for doing this sort of thing? It's not exactly hard to come up with a unique name every time you start a transaction (could base it off the SP name, or somesuch), but I do worry that eventually there would be a conflict - and you wouldn't know about it because rather than causing an error it just silently destroys your data... :-(

  • Is Google Maps API V3 good enough to use now?

    - by Haroldo
Firstly, only reply if you have experience using API V3 (i can speculate myself!) I had a little go with V3 and it looked great but would love to hear from someone who's given it a bit of use before I start working with it and deploy it on a live site. I'm only looking to do very basic things: put markers on a map custom markers info bubbles It all looks very easy with v3: http://www.svennerberg.com/2009/06/google-maps-api-3-the-basics/ is it stable enough?

  • Show SQL query results in Sharepoint

    - by JoeOD
Hi All I support Rational clearquest for my company and have been asked to show some of the data in Sharepoint. I can query the data in Clearquest no problem (Using Toad) but have no idea about how to go displaying it in Sharepoint. The data I'm querying contains dates and ideally I'd like to be able display it in a sharepoint calendar but list format would do for the moment. Can anybody offer advice on even where to start? Thanks, Joe

  • .NET 4 SpinLock

    - by Jon Harrop
The following test code (F#) is not returning the result I'd expect: let safeCount() = let n = 1000000 let counter = ref 0 let spinlock = ref <| SpinLock(false) let run i0 i1 () = for i=i0 to i1-1 do let locked = ref false try (!spinlock).Enter locked if !locked then counter := !counter + 1 finally if !locked then (!spinlock).Exit() let thread = System.Threading.Thread(run 0 (n/2)) thread.Start() run (n/2) n () thread.Join() !counter I'd expect the SpinLock to mutually exclude the counter and, therefore, for it to return counts of 1,000,000 but, instead, it returns smaller values as if no mutual exclusion is occurring. Any ideas what's wrong?

  • Gotchas of moving from developing ASP.NET to Winforms apps

    - by Peanut
Hi, After developing ASP.NET apps exclusively for several years I'm about to start developing Winforms apps. What are the gotchas that I should be looking out for with this changes? For instance the way object lifetime is managed in the winforms paradigm. I'm sure there must be plenty of gotchas / differences between the two that I need to be mindful of. Thanks.
