  • Alsa devices under Wine

    Hi all, I'm running OpenSuse 11.2 and Wine 1.1.28. Even if audio is perfectly working fine for me (Skype, Banshee, etc), when I try to configure audio for Wine (to use Spotify) I cannot hear anything from the audio test. In the winecfg audio tab, ALSA is checked, but no devices are available. I tried to run alsaconf (it needs root permissions) but it returns: No supported PnP or PCI card found No legacy drivers available, either. Any idea?

  • ISAPI filter with LDAP over SSL only works as administrator

    I have created an ISAPI filter for IIS 6.0 that tries to authenticate against Active directory using LDAP. The filter works fine when authenticating regularly over port 389, but when I try to use SSL, I always get the 0x51 Server Down error at the ldap_connect() call. Even skipping the connect call and using ldap_simple_bind_s() results in the same error. The weird thing is that if I change the app pool identity to the local admin account, then the filter works fine and LDAP over SSL is successful. I created an exe with the same code below and ran it on the server as admin and it works. Using the default NETWORK SERVICE identity for the site's app pool is what seems to be the problem. Any thoughts as to what is happening? I want to use the default identity since I don't want the website to have elevated admin privileges. The server is in a DMZ outside the network and domain where our DCs are that run AD. We have a valid certificate on our DCs for AD as well. I added the user to the Administrators group and got the same error as well. The only user that seems to work with LDAP over SSL authentication on this particular server is administrator. The web server with the ISAPI filter (and where I've been running the test exe) is running Windows Server 2003. The DCs with AD on them are running 2008 R2. Also worth mentioning, we have a WordPress site on the same server that authenticates against LDAP over SSL using PHP (OpenLDAP) and there's no problem there. I have an ldap.conf file that specifies TLS_REQCERT never and the user running the PHP code is IUSR.

    I have problem with Realtek 5.1 driver for Windows 7 x64. I've installed newest drivers for Realtek HD Audio, but 5.1 still doesn't work, the only thing that works is front stereo. However, when I click on single speaker in sound settings test, every one of them work. Sorry that the image isn't in english, but I hope you can understand the point.

    Looking for a tool that can test a daul-core cpu via a boot disc, thus bypassing Windows (and ensuring that only the hardware is being tested). UBCD4Win's included Prime95 is an older version and it can't run two threads at once. Ditto for UBCD. Any idea? And while I'm asking, is there a boot tool for GPU's? Thanks!

  • APC (PHP Cache) Uptime 0 minutes, not caching

    My goal is to implement APC for opcode cache for a drupal 6 production site. I have so far tested APC with several php files with and without including other php files with include_once. Also tried to tweak the apc.ini values for shm_size, apc.include_once_override and apc.stat. Restarted apache every time. Resulting in apc.php not showing any changes in any values. Is there a way to check if the file permissions prevent the apc stay running? I'm tremendously grateful for any suggestions or help.

  • ustream and justin.tv don't work, YouTube and bitgravity are fine

    Can anyone explain this? On this laptop, ustream and justin.tv don't work - just get a blank screen. But YouTube and bitgravity work fine (also flash based). 64-bit windows 7 - but I have 64-bit windows 7 on my desktop machine and everything works fine there. Good place to test is here http://live.twit.tv/ where the bitgravity feeds work fine, but ustream and justin.tv don't.

  • long access times and errors in iis application

    I am having an issue with an IIS application (details of environment at the end of the message). The web site works great most of the time and I cannot reproduce any error in our test system. On the live system however with on averare of 5-15 requests per second I have a problem with that some requests (about 0.05%) will take over 300 seconds to complete. The other requests complete withing 5-10 seconds. It seem like if all the errornous requests end up with a Timer_EntityBody error in the error log. I have never seen this as an end user but I guess that they will receive some kind of error message. I am trying to find out what can be causing this errornous behaviour. Any ideas are welcome. I have read something about that there can be an MTU issue if ICMP and MTU protocols are blocked in the firewall. Does that sound reasonable? I have also read about updating to IIS 7 should do the trick. Does it sound reasonable? I think that the problem has another cause but I have no idea of what. I have tried running hte perormance monitor, monitoring for database locks and active transaction counts. I can see some of these in the perfmon log for the MSSQL server (another machine) for example: Active transactions is sometimes peaking and sometimes for long periods Lock waits per seconds is sometimes peaking Transactions per second is sometimes peaking Page IO Latch wait is sometimes peaking Lock wait time (ms) is sometimes peaking But I cannot see that any of these correlate to the errors in the IIS error log. On the IIS server machine I can also see with perfmon that some values peak a few times during a day: Request execution time Avg disk queue length I can neither see that any of these correlate to the errors in the IIS error log.   • changing ext4 journal data mode with remount?

    I'm tweaking ext4 file system for speed, one tweak at a time. First tweak is to change from "data=ordered" to "data=writeback". To test this, I execute "mount -n -o remount,data=ordered /" but I keep getting "mount: / not mounted already, or bad option". From lots of google'ing I found many questions about similar problems and one answer circa 2001+ext3 which says that you can't change the journal mode with remount. Is this limitation still current?

  • How do I set up ZScreen to upload images to my mediawiki?

    I've set up a mediawiki with all the correct settings and enabled image uploading. When I do this manually this all works OK. I want to be able to upload screenshots automatically into my mediawiki using ZScreen. There is an option to do this: I press Test..., this work OK, however I'm unable to tell ZScreen to to actually get the picture into my mediawiki. There's no option to select mediawiki as my destination. How do I setup zscreen to upload to my mediawiki?

    An interesting situation here. We have a database server, used for testing only, where someone went in and deleted the administrator login. Since this is a test server the was no other admin level login on the server. Is there a way to get access to the server again without reinstalling SQL Server? We do not need the data in the databases, these are droped and recreated everytime the tests are run.

    For testing purposes, I've found it's really useful to point whatever.machineIP.mydomain.com to 192.168.1.machineIP : that way we can test each other's code without fidgetting with hosts files. I'm aware that this identifies our local IP addresses to the outside world, but if someone could access the network, it'd be trivial to sniff which of the local IP addresses respond to port 80 anyway. I can run: $ sudo date -s "15 JAN 2038 18:00:00" Fri Jan 15 18:00:00 PST 2038 ...but: $ sudo date -s "15 JAN 2039 18:00:00" date: invalid date `15 JAN 2039 18:00:00' Is the limit somewhere in 2038 (or prior to Jan. 15, 2039)? Does this change with different versions of Linux?

  • Why do I see a large performance hit with DRBD?

    I see a much larger performance hit with DRBD than their user manual says I should get. I'm using DRBD 8.3.7 (Fedora 13 RPMs). I've setup a DRBD test and measured throughput of disk and network without DRBD: dd if=/dev/zero of=/data.tmp bs=512M count=1 oflag=direct 536870912 bytes (537 MB) copied, 4.62985 s, 116 MB/s / is a logical volume on the disk I'm testing with, mounted without DRBD iperf: [ 4] 0.0-10.0 sec 1.10 GBytes 941 Mbits/sec According to Throughput overhead expectations, the bottleneck would be whichever is slower, the network or the disk and DRBD should have an overhead of 3%. In my case network and I/O seem to be pretty evenly matched. It sounds like I should be able to get around 100 MB/s. So, with the raw drbd device, I get dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/drbd2 bs=512M count=1 oflag=direct 536870912 bytes (537 MB) copied, 6.61362 s, 81.2 MB/s which is slower than I would expect. Then, once I format the device with ext4, I get dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/data.tmp bs=512M count=1 oflag=direct 536870912 bytes (537 MB) copied, 9.60918 s, 55.9 MB/s This doesn't seem right. There must be some other factor playing into this that I'm not aware of. global_common.conf global { usage-count yes; } common { protocol C; } syncer { al-extents 1801; rate 33M; } data_mirror.res resource data_mirror { device /dev/drbd1; disk /dev/sdb1; meta-disk internal; on cluster1 { address 192.168.33.10:7789; } on cluster2 { address 192.168.33.12:7789; } } For the hardware I have two identical machines: 6 GB RAM Quad core AMD Phenom 3.2Ghz Motherboard SATA controller 7200 RPM 64MB cache 1TB WD drive The network is 1Gb connected via a switch. I know that a direct connection is recommended, but could it make this much of a difference? Edited I just tried monitoring the bandwidth used to try to see what's happening. I used ibmonitor and measured average bandwidth while I ran the dd test 10 times. I got: avg ~450Mbits writing to ext4 avg ~800Mbits writing to raw device It looks like with ext4, drbd is using about half the bandwidth it uses with the raw device so there's a bottleneck that is not the network.

    I currently used this code for Imagemagick: convert "c:\users\****\My Documents\test.png" -transparent white test2.png However, I keep on getting two errors that look like this: convert.exe: unable to open image `c:\users\****\My': No such file or directory @ error/blob.c/OpenBlob/2641. convert.exe: no decode delegate for this image format `c:\users\****\My' @ error/constitute.c/ReadImage/550. I installed Imagemagick to my c:\ directory. What does this mean, and how can I fix it?
