• Can my computer run Ubuntu? [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: How do I find out which version and derivative of Ubuntu is right for my hardware in terms of minimal system requirements? 2 answers Just want to check if my computer can run Ubuntu.   I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 with Gnome Classic (no effects) and because of the fact that some system options have disappeared with the new system release I've been struggling with this for a while and despite this seems very easy I can't do this :/ - does anyone know how to choose a GDM Theme? I'm quite sure that GDM is now in use on my Ubuntu - I set it up with: sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm Despite I moved the theme folder to /usr/share/gdm/themes nothing has changed by now, I've logged out and in a couple of times but everytime I get the standard log in window and wallpaper (different from mine). So I'll appreciate any kind of help from anybody, now I have absolutely no idea how to figure it out. Cheers.

• Is it legal to develop a game usung some version of D&D, something similar to Baldurs Gate?

  For a while now I've been thinking about trying my hand at creating a game similar in spirit and execution to Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale and offshoots. I'd rather not face the full bulk of work in implementing my own RPG system - I'd like to use D&D rules. Now, reading about the subject it seems there is something called "The License" which allows a company to brand a game as D&D. This license seems to be exclusive, and let's just say I don't have the money to buy it :p. Is it still legal for me to implement and release such a game? Commercially or open-source? I'm not sure exactly which edition would fit the best, but since Baldurs Gate is based of 2nd edition, could I go ahead an implement that? in short: what are the issues concerning licensing and publishing when it comes to D&D?   I have an issue with Google Analytics, can't seem to find a guide how to activate Demographics and Interests reports. • Is there an application which organizes my "Downloads" folder automatically?

  I'm looking for an application which puts all files from my Downloads folder into a new generated folder (called like the date) per button press or automatically is able to move files to its destinated directory automatically (p.e. *.png files should be put into /home/user/pictures/random/, *.avi to /videos/, ...) If you are familiar with the DayFolder application: I'm looking for an application like that but for any folder (not only the Desktop). In my case that's Downloads because this folder gets cluttered on my PC very fast. Thanks for your advice/help!

• How to upgrade to 12.10 daily build from 12.04? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How do I upgrade to the development release (aka. Ubuntu+1)? I was suggested these commands when I searched for it on Google: sudo sed -i 's/precise/quantal/g' /etc/apt/sources.list sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade But, I don't know whether that works or not. So my question is: How to upgrade 12.04 to the 12.10 daily build? How to rollback to 12.04 if the daily build breaks? You might ask me why I want to try something like that... it's probably because I want to check out all the new upgrades that have been done in quantal. Another bonus question: If I select the "precise-proposed" updates in Update Manager, how close will my 12.04 come off to the 12.10? Are these precise proposed updates same as "quantal-proposed"? What are the differences?

• No sound in World of Goo?

  I installed WorldOfGooSetup.1.41.deb and it didn't work. There was a segmentation fault error (core dumped) in terminal. I fixed that with: sudo cp /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libvorbis.so.* /opt/WorldOfGoo/libs32 sudo cp /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libvorbis.so.* /opt/WorldOfGoo/libs64 That error is new for me as I have never had it before with previous releases of Ubuntu. The game starts now but no sound effects or music is played. I can hear music with my computer, videos, etc, so it is not a volume control problem. I am using ubuntu 12.04 final release.

• suspend error on 14.04 LTS

  I've looked around and seems like various problems around suspend are wide spreaded for 14.04 release, nevertheless I haven't seen exactly my problem reported, nor my laptop model mentioned. So, the problem. When I press sleep button system seems to be going into suspend, i.e. screen goes black, it stops responding on the keyboard and wireless LEDs turn off, however the power LED doesn't go into suspend state and CPU fan also keeps spinning. But unlike the other problem described here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1315435 when I close the lid and reopen it - system wakes up and goes back to normal locked screen state, so reboot is not needed. System details: This is a clean freshly installed Ubuntu 14.04, 32bit Laptop Dell D630 kernel 3.13.0-34-generic

I was reading the release notes for Visual Studio 2013 and .Net 4.5.1 and it mentioned a new/updated Authentication approach. “ASP.NET Identity is the new membership system for ASP.NET applications. ASP.NET Identity makes it easy to integrate user-specific profile data with application data. ASP.NET Identity also allows you to choose the persistence model for user profiles in your application. • Drawing line from sprite with a touch

  I am working with cocos2d for the iPhone and I have a question about how to implement the following. I have a circle shaped sprite on my layer. When I touch the sprite and move my finger a line must be drawn from the sprite to where my finger is. When I move my finger on the screen the line must follow (straight line). When I release my finger the line should disappear. In a good looking way I should be able to restyle the line into an arrow. Can anyone move me in the right direction for this ? Kind regards

• Google analytics shows wrong number of page views, asp.net website

  Sometimes it can be for example 4500 requests, after a few hours it shows a few thousand less. What is wrong? It looks like analytics corrects itself. I changed from classic to Universal a few months ago, do not know if it has anything to do with this. • Is Google Analytics safe for websites that deal with sensitive information?

  I work for a company that writes several webapps that deal with a lot of sensitive information, such as full name, date of birth, address, and SSNs. Currently we don't have anything to measure site usage, but I would like to use Google Analytics to track usage and statistics about our users. What data is sent to Google when you use Analytics? If I put this on a page that contains any of the above information, will that data be sent to Google? Or are they just getting the necessary information like user agent and IP address?

• nVidia GT 220 not working properly with Ubuntu 12.10

  I used to enable proprietary nVidia drivers on every previous Ubuntu release to get it working properly (elseway I was forced to a very low resolution and no graphic acceleration), and everything worked fine then. In particular, I noticed - still I don't know why - that the GPU fan on every OS gets noisy until the video drivers are loaded (runlevel 5, it seems, in Linux), and then slows down to a normal speed. Today I installed 12.10. Running the Live CD, surprisingly, everything was working fine: full resolution, acceleration, silent fan, and so on. The running driver was nvidia-current (GT 216). After installing and booting I found that the fan was overrunning. The installed driver is nouveau. I tried installing nvidia-current, or any other proprietary driver, even installing the kernel headers & source and then the drivers (as suggested here), but all I'm getting with proprietary drivers is, the irony, low resolution, noisy fan and no acceleration (thus obviously unity and compiz refusing to start). Does anybody know a way out?

In addition to the release documentation, the following new information is provided: A new document, Using the Image Ops API, describes how to read and write raw pixel data to and from JavaFX images. The Handling JavaFX Events document has been updated with more information on touch events. The Working with Touch Events chapter and Touch Events sample provide information about handling individual touch points to provide sophisticated responses to touch actions. The Implementing Best Practices document has been updated to include information about running tasks on background threads. The Troubleshooting section of Deploying JavaFX Applications now includes a section about disabling the automatic proxy configuration in your application code.
