  I'm trying to make a python binding for the this library: http://code.google.com/p/hosterslib/. I'm using swig, heres is the code: %module pyhosters %{ include "hosters/hosters.hpp" %} %include "hosters/hosters.hpp" I run "swig -c++ -python -o swig_wrap.cxx swig.i" and I compile with "g++ -O2 -fPIC -shared -o _pyhosters.so swig_wrap.cxx python-config --libs --cflags -lhosters -lcln -lhtmlcxx pkg-config libglog --libs --cflags -I/usr/include/python2.6 -Wall -Wextra" But when I run python and I import it, I get: import pyhosters Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in File "./pyhosters.py", line 7, in import _pyhosters ImportError: ./_pyhosters.so: undefined symbol: _ZN7hosters11hostersLink7getLinkEi How can I solve that?   Whilst asking this question asp.net scheduling timed events user murph posted some insightful information: Point about this is that its very, very simple - you have an process for exchange that is performing a clearly defined task and you have a high frequency task that is not doing anything particularly complex, its a straightforward query (select from table where sent = false and send at < value) - probably into temporary table so that you can run a single query update after you've done the sends - that you can optimise the index for. You're not trying to queue up a huge pile of event triggers, just one that fires once a minute and processes things that are due. Is it possible to SELECT data from table X INTO table Y and have the UPDATES that are performed on table Y pushed into table X? I guess the alternative would be that the data gets updated in table Y then an update command can be run on table X based on the data in table Y. What would be the advantage of selecting into another table? Thank you,

• Windows 7 Public Documents Folder - how to move it to drive d: [closed]

  Hi, I've just bought a new pc, and it is running Windows 7. I'm wanting to set up all of the documents folders such that they point to folders on a second drive partition (ie. disk D:) so that I have a nice separation of os from docs. I have managed to do this for each user on the machine (by opening up properties for documents folder and changing location). Hwoever, this procedure doesn't seem to work for the public documents folder. I cannot change the location for that one (even though I have administrator privileges). It is greyed out and cannot be changed. Any ideas ? Thanks!!

• Ajax/PHP - should I use one long running script or polling?

  Hello, I have a PHP script that is kicked off via ajax. This PHP script uses exec() to run a separate PHP script via the shell. The script that is called via exec() may take 30 seconds or so to complete. I need to update the UI once it is finished. Which of these options is preferred? a) Leave the HTTP connection open for the 30 seconds and wait for it to finish. b) Have exec() run the PHP script in the background and then use ajax polling to check for completion (every 5 seconds or so). c) Something else that I haven't thought of. • Stopping httpd causes a process started from perl CGI script to receive SIGTERM

  I am running a shell script from a perl CGI script: #!/usr/bin/perl my $command = "./script.sh &"; my $pid = fork(); if (defined($pid) && $pid==0) { # background process system( $command ); } The shell script looks like this: #!/bin/sh trap 'echo trapped' 15 tail -f test.log When I run the CGI script from browser, and then stop httpd using /etc/init.d/httpd stop, the script receives a SIGTERM signal. I was expecting the script to run as a separate process and not be tied in anyway to httpd. Though I can trap the SIGTERM, I would like to understand why the script is receiving SIGTERM at all. What wrong am I doing here? I am running RHEL 5.8 and Apache HTTP server 2.4. Thanks, Pranav

• help understanding the concept of javascript callbacks with node.js, especially in loops

  hi I am just starting with node.js. I have done a little ajax stuff but nothing too complicated so callbacks are still kind of over my head. I looked at async but all I need is to run a few functions sequentially. I basically have something that pulls some json from an api, creates a new one and then does something with that. obviously i can't just run it because it runs everything at once and has an empty json. mostly they have to go sequentially but if while pulling a json from the api it can pull other json while it's waiting that is fine. I just got confused when putting the callback in a loop. what do I do with the index? i think i have seen some places that use callback inside the loop as kind of a recusive function and don't use for loops at all. simple examples would help alot thanks!

• WebService loggin using log4j in tomcat container

  Hi, I have my webservice deployed on Apache tomcat 5.5. When I run my webservice using eclipse IDE, it prints logs to the location I have specified . I have put log4j property file for my webservice in the apache-tomcat-5.5.28/common/classes folder. Problem is , when i run this using webservice .aar file which is put in to apache-tomcat-5.5.28/webapps/axis2/WEB-INF/classes folder in the webservice ,it does not print logs. Could anyone tell me what is going wrong here. why does it print logs when running from eclipse ide and, why is it not printing logs when it is started using the aar file deployed to tomcat

• Trying to right click on code in VS2008 causes lockup.

  Working on a Win32 DLL using Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and, since yesterday, whenever I try to right click on code, to go to a variable definition for example, VS completely locks up and I have to manually kill the process. To make it even weirder, whenever this happens the devenv.exe process uses exactly 25% of the CPU. And I mean exactly, never 24%, never 26%, always 25% Also, I've run ProcMon to see if devenv is actually doing something, but it's doing absolutely nothing external of the process. No disk, network, registry access. Nothing. This is getting really aggravating because I have a large code base to deal with and the only other way of jumping to the definition is to first search for it. Has anyone run into a similar issue? And, better yet, know a fix?

My C++ guts tell me that runner object should be destroyed after RunSomethingASync is finished. Am I right? What happens then to the method running on different thread? Or perhaps it is other way around and runner will not be collected? That would be a problem considering I may call RunSomethingASync() many times.

• Application Runs when Debugging but not when Published.

  When publishing my web application and then running it will return the error "Could not load file or assembly 'BaseApplicationName' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format." However if I run the application through debugging (f5) it runs correctly. I guess what it comes down to is what differences are there when running an application through debugging vs publishing it that would cause a problem like this? When publising I have it set to delete all existing. History of how it started... I added the 32 bit Oracle.DataAccess dll to my 64 bit system. It would not work and crash giving the same error as above but with the Oracle.DataAccess name instead of the baseApplicationName. I have since removed all references to it and removed the dll to try and get it to run without it once again. Any advice?

• Query through linked server is very slow

  I have 2 SQL 2005 servers SRV1 and SRV2. SRV2 is the linked server on SRV1. I run a storep proc with params on SRV2 and it is completed immediately. But when I run the same proc through the linked server on SRV1, for example EXEC [SRV1].DB_TEST.dbo.p_sample_proc it takes about 8-10 minutes to complete. After restarting SRV2 the problem is gone. But some time later it returns. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

  I would like to know how we can create different "user Roles" for different users in PHP. example: Administrator can create all types of users, add, view, manipulate data, delete managers, viewers, and workers, etc managers can only create, workers and viewers, can add and view data, workers can't create new users, but can only add data and view data, viewers can only view data that has been added to the DB by workers, managers and administrators. I though its better to use different sessions like : $_SESSION['admin'] $_SESSION['manager'] $_SESSION['worker'] $_SESSION['viewvers'] and for every page check which of them have a true or yes value, but I want to know how do they do it in real and big projects??? is there any other way???

• Is there a recommended command for "hg bisect --command"?

  I have an emergent bug that I've got to track down tomorrow. I know a previous hg revision which was good so I'm thinking about using hg bisect. However, I'm on Windows and don't want to get into DOS scripting. Ideally, I'd be able to write a Python unit test and have hg bisect use that.   I have deployed one web project into Azure emulator. And I get this error saying that Could not load file or assembly Base. The thing is that this web project, got dependencies to another project in the same solution. I have added that dependency into the reference list of my web project. And if I run this web application without using the azure emulator it will run fine. But I will get error when I try to run it on the azure emulator. At first glance I thought that I maybe need to add the other project as role also. But it couldn't be that. Anyone know what the problem might be? I hope I got enough data for you to look into. • Creating an array & outputting its code definition for preloading

  I want to create a 2d array that represents my 2d canvas. For each pixel, I will look up the value and then save an integer {0, 1, 2, 3, 4} as each element of the array. Unfortunately, this takes way too friggin' long to run each time I load the game. How can I write a script that creates this array for me and outputs the array code so I can just paste it in a js file and have it preloaded? (I'm prototyping a game, so I just need to run this for my test map or two.)

• JS 2 minute countdown then execute a function?

  I'm not that great at Javascript, for the record! I DO know how to use ajax. I just need a bit of help. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to display a 5 minute countdown, and once the countdown hits zero, to run a function. I need to pass a variable to the function that needs to run. I tried SetInterval but this isn't exactly my strong suit. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can post the code I've got, but I would equate it to a gorilla fumbling in the dark at a typewriter!

• How to import data from a Lotus private view into Access?

  I'm experimenting with Lotus private views for the first time and I finally made a private view that (more or less) has the data I want. I just need to get it into MS Access. If this was a standard shared view, I'd just fire up the ODBC administrator, and make a DSN to the database using the NotesSQL driver. Been there, done that. But you can't get to private views that way. So, how do I import the data from my private view into Access? (Also, I'm not one of the IT gurus in our company, so I can't just make a view and share it, even if it's hidden)

• Running Java plugin 1.5 on Firefox + Snow Leopard

  I have a Java applet that needs to be able to run on Java 1.5. I have successfully installed Java 1.5 on Snow Leopard and I am able to use it to run applets in Safari by changing the order of the versions in Java Preferences. However, Firefox (3.5.9) doesn't seem to be able to pick up the changes and keeps reverting to using the Java 1.6 plugin. How do I force Firefox to use the Java 1.5 plugin? I tried re-linking the /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/CurrentJDK folder to point to my 1.5 directory, but that seems to change the system-level Java runtime, not the Firefox plugin (it opened up the console differently, but inside the console it reported Java plugin 1.6.0).

  My Android project references external classfiles that are not included in the in the Android SDK. I added those classes as an external library properly in eclipse. The code compiles with no problem. But as I try to run the application I get an ClassNotFoundException by the DalvikVM, although all the neccessary classes have been ported. Am I missing something? The steps I did. create new folder in eclipse android project. copy neccessary classes in this folder. add the folder to the classpath via eclipse. programm compile run as android application -- Exception

• How to put 1000 lightweight server applications in the cloud

  The company I work for sells a commercial desktop/server app that runs on any non dedicated Windows PC or server and uses Tomcat for all interactions with the application. Customers are asking that we host their instance of the application so they don't have to run it locally on their own servers. The app is lightweight and an average server, in theory, could handle 25-50 instances before users would notice a slowdown. However only 1 instance can run per Windows instance (because the application writes to a common registry branch) so we'd need something like VMWare to create 25-50 Windows instances. We know we eventually need to reprogram to make it truly cloud-worthy but what would you recommend for a server farm or whatever for this? We don't have the setup to purchase our own servers so we must use a 3rd party. We have budgeted $500 - $1000 per year per customer for this service. • php.ini not being read with windows 7 installation

  I have installed php successfully on a Windows 7 machine but I can not for the life of me get it to read the php.ini file. I have uncommented out the line for php to use mysql and when I run phpinfo(), it never shows up. I have checked to make sure there is only one php.ini file on my entire c:\ drive and it's sitting in my c:\windows folder. has anyone else run into this and know of a solution to get php to read the .ini so that I can enable some extensions (mysql etc)?

• Force NCover 1.5.8 to use v4 framework like testdriven.net does?

  I want to run coverage from the command line, but can't seem to get NCover 1.5.8 to instrument the code. It must be possible as when I run coverage tests with TestDriven.net it works. the difference seems to be that TD.NET is able to get NCover to use framework 4.0 (you get this in the log when it runs : MESSAGE: v4.0.30319) but from the command line I can't make it (I get this in the log : MESSAGE: v2.0.50727) So how can I make NCover play nice with nunit from the commandline, like it does with TD.NET?
