  • Address Validation API

    I have a task to validate addresses entered into a system I am currently creating. The system requires that address entered are validated against a valid data source. In the UK the dataset comes from the Royal Mail and is expensive to access. The data needed is post code info for the whold of europe to start with accessed by an API into the web application. There are a number of companies that offer this service, QAS Capscan Postcode anywhere These all offer the service I require. However this is expensive and in some cases not a complete data set. e.g. not Ireland I was also wondering if there would be a way to utalis the google maps API to validate this data via postal code and country. Would the google maps method be possible or do I have to go down the line of one of these expensive companies? Any thoughts on what line I should take.

    After much experimenting and googling, the following Python code successfully calls Google's Search APi - but only returns 4 results: after reading the Google Search API docs, I thought the 'start=' would return additional results: but this not happen. Can anyone give pointers? Thanks.   • Problem with Google AJAX Search API RESTful interface

    When I send the following query http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/services/search/local?v=1.0&q=coffee%20New%20York%20NY using c# WebClient.DownloadString function or ordinary web browser I get JSON data which is different from data for the same query using JavaScript and Google AJAX Search API. From REST service I get the following url field http://www.google.com/maps/place?source003duds0026q003dcoffee0026cid003d13245583795745066822 but from JavaScript query I get this url field http://www.google.com/maps/place?source=uds&q=coffee&cid=13245583795745066822 The problem with REST service answer is that the url it gives points to a web page with error message "We currently do not support the location". What am I doing wrong?

    I'm using the twitter search API to get twitter posts based on some keywords, using AND and OR keyword. It works OK, but I seem to get problems using hashtags... For example : Not returning any results : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q="%23ipad+AND+%23ipod"+OR+"%23joke+AND+%23funny"&rpp=100&callback=? Returning results : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q="ipad+AND+ipod"+OR+"joke+AND+funny"&rpp=100&callback=? But there's results with #ipod AND #ipad because when I search only for #ipod, I can see a lot of posts with both hashtags. Example : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=%23ipad&rpp=100&callback=? P.S. %23 = # Any idea?

  • Facebook API - Get comments

    Our business has a Facebook Fan Page. The fan page doesn't seem to generate any emails to us when updates are made to the page, whether someone adds a new status or someone comments on one of the statuses etc. Currently, we are running a very crude script to grab the content of the page and then use regular expressions to get the information we require. Obviously this is not fool proof and I'm looking into alternatives to this method. I've been looking at the facebook API and wonder if the rest server might be an option. I cannot, however, seem to find out how to return information of fan page statuses and their comments. Is anyone able to direct me how to use the API to retrieve this information. I am an admin of the fan page. The programming language I'm using is PHP. Many thanks.

    I'm developing a PHP application to retrieve the list of contacts from a GMail account. I'm looking for a solution which would enable the user of my application to provide the login and password to their Gmail account in my application (as opposed to getting redirected to Google) and then automatically do the retrieval. The retrieval process can be run in PHP or JavaScript (which would then feed the list of contacts back to PHP using Ajax). Is it possible to do that? Which JavaScript API should I use for that? Can someone point me at the right chapter in Google Contacts Data API documentation?

But then when I deploy the web api to IIS 7 and 7.5, in some cases, it crashes.     I have trouble using Facebook auth on my website... I'm using the PHP Sdk and I don't understand why I can use some functions like "getLoginUrl"/"getLoginStatusUrl"/"getUser" (with right answers : the facebook session is started, i get the user's facebook ID) and when I want to use something like $me = $facebook->api("/me/permissions"); or just $me = $facebook->api("/me"); there's always an exception and nothing works ... I guess it has something to do with permissions or token maybe, but I don't know what. When the user sign up on my website, I ask permissions I need with this scope : "email,user_about_me,user_location,read_friendlists,publish_stream" A clue that the permissions seem to be ok is that when the exception occures, I ask the user to sign in again (facebook connect) and no window appears as if everything's ok, but still, the page is reloaded and the exception appears again and again... Please help, Thank you !

  • Why do we need Web-Api? [closed]

    I was just wondering what the deal is with Asp.net Web-Api. Why did we need a separate type of controller in order to facilitate varying content types for action results? Why wasn't this capability just baked into the ASP.Net MVC base controller? Anyway, I was just wondering if there was a compelling reason to use both types of controllers within the same project, assuming that the project was being freshly created, or if this project structure was due to an inherent technical limitation. Would it be possible to have ApiControllers fulfill the purpose of an MVC Controller in all cases by just serving HTML when that is the specified accept type? It just seems to me like a lot of unnecessary repetition to have to re-implement the same types of actions using both types of controllers if you want those actions to be available to your web application through the API and through the web interface.

    Today i installed Ubuntu 10.4 and Eclipse Galileo. Then I downloaded the Android SDK and tried to install all packages via the Android SDK Tools. But unfortunately, only the Target Levels 3, 4, 7 and 8 were available. API Level 5 and 6 are missing. Does anybody know the reason for this? I already did a Google search and there seems to be nobody with the same problem. I also tried to restart it and nothing happens, the API Levels are still missing.

  • Server returns 500 error only when called by Java client using urlConnection/httpUrlConnection

    Hi - I'm having a very strange problem. I'm trying to call a servlet (JSP) with an HTTP GET and a few parameters (http://mydomain.com/method?param1=test&param2=123). If I call it from the browser or via WGET in a bash session, it works fine. However, when I make the exact same call in a Java client using urlConnection or httpURLConnection, the server returns a 500 error. I've tried everything I have found online including: urlConn.setRequestProperty("Accept-Language", "en-us,en;q=0.5"); Nothing I've tried, however, has worked. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the server I'm calling so I can't see the logs.   • Use Cherokee Instead of nginx in Front of Varnish to Get HTTP 1.1 Optimizations?

    We have been running nginx - uWSGI, and now we are evaluating putting Varnish as a caching layer between nginx and uWSGI (similar to http://www.heroku.com/how/architecture). But, nginx only supports HTTP 1.0 on the back so it will have to create new connections with Varnish for each request. Many recommend running nginx in front of Varnish, but wouldn't it make much more sense to use something like Cherokee so that you eliminate the HTTP connection overhead since it supports HTTP 1.1 on the back?

    In IIS 7, is there a way to set two urls on the same site to allow http and https, and the rest to be https only? - http://mysite/url1 or https://mysite/url1 is accepted and stays on that protocol. - http://mysite/url2 or https://mysite/url2 is accepted and stays on that protocol. - any other item, i.e. http://mysite/whatever redirects to https://mysite/whatever - https://mysite/whatever is accepted.     Every now and then you come across a problem when there is nothing in the "troubleshooting manual" which can help you. Instead you need to think outside the box. This happened to me two or three years back. Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) 11g did not start. The error reported back by OPMN was generic and gave no clue, and worse the HTTP Server error log was empty, and remained so even after I had increased the OPMN and HTTP Server log levels. After checking configuration files, operating system resources, etc I was still no nearer the solution. And then the light bulb moment! OHS is based on Apache - what happens if I attempt to start HTTP Server using the native apache command. Trouble was the OHS 11g solution has its binaries and configuration files in separate "home" directories ORACLE_HOME contains the binaries ORACLE_INSTANCE contains the configuration files How to set the environment so that native apache commands run without error? Eventually, with help from a colleague, the knowledge articleHow to Start Oracle HTTP Server 11g Without Using opmnctl [ID 946532.1]was born! To be honest, I cannot remember the exact cause and solution to that OHS problem two or three years ago.
