  • JSON Feed Appears to be XHR when it should be JS

    - by Oscar Godson
I don't get why it'd doing this with the 2nd feed (appearing as a XHR call rather than just JS [looking at it in Firefox/Firebug]). The 2nd feed has the exact same MIME type as Flickr's JSON feed, yet the PortlandOregon.gov one shows as XHR and i get a NULL callback when using $.getJSON and if i use $.ajax with a 'json' or 'jsonp' type i get nothing at all. If i do the Flickr one i get the normal "[object Object]" callback. Whats going on? Please help! This has been such a headache for about a week. And i have authorization to change the feed, but i have to request the change, so if anyone knows for absolute sure let me know that! • Use of @keyword in C# -- bad idea?

    - by Robert Fraser
In my naming convention, I use _name for private member variables. I noticed that if I auto-generate a constructor with ReSharper, if the member is a keyword, it will generate an escaped keyword. For example: class IntrinsicFunctionCall { private Parameter[] _params; public IntrinsicFunctionCall(Parameter[] @params) { _params = @params; } } Is this generally considered bad practice or is it OK? It happens quite frequently with @params and @interface.

  • Performance of CSS Transitions vs. JS animation packages

    - by desau
I'm wondering - is there any difference in performance of using CSS Transitions vs. any of the various JS animation libraries? (scriptaculous, scripty2, jsAnim, MooTools, $fx, etc, etc). I've tried various tests in Safari / Google Chrome, and I don't actually see any difference -- I thought that CSS Transitions were supposed to be hardware accelerated.

  • Finite State Machine : Bad design?

    - by f4
Are Finite State Machines generally considered as bad design in OOP ? I hear that a lot. And, after I had to work on a really old, undocumented piece of C++ making use of it, I tend to agree. It was a pain to debug. what about readability/maintainability concerns?

  • Rails: AJAX Controller JS not firing...

    - by neezer
    I'm having an issue with one of my controller's AJAX functionality. Here's what I have: class PhotosController < ApplicationController # ... def create @photo = Photo.new(params[:photo]) @photo.image_content_type = MIME::Types.type_for(@photo.image_file_name).to_s @photo.image_width = Paperclip::Geometry.from_file(params[:photo][:image]).width.to_i @photo.image_height = Paperclip::Geometry.from_file(params[:photo][:image]).height.to_i @photo.save! respond_to do |format| format.js end end # ... end This is called through a POST request sent by this code: $(function() { // add photos link $('a.add-photos-link').colorbox({ overlayClose: false, onComplete: function() { wire_add_photo_modal(); } }); function wire_add_photo_modal() { <% session_key = ActionController::Base.session_options[:key] %> $('#upload_photo').uploadify({ uploader: '/swf/uploadify.swf', script: '/photos', cancelImg: '/images/buttons/cancel.png', buttonText: 'Upload Photo(s)', auto: true, queueID: 'queue', fileDataName: 'photo[image]', scriptData: { '<%= session_key %>': '<%= u cookies[session_key] %>', commit: 'Adding Photo', controller: 'photos', action: 'create', '_method': 'post', 'photo[gallery_id]': $('#gallery_id').val(), 'photo[user_id]': $('#user_id').val(), authenticity_token: encodeURIComponent('<%= u form_authenticity_token if protect_against_forgery? %>') }, multi: true }); } }); Finally, I have my response code in app/views/photos/create.js.erb: alert('photo added!'); My log file shows that the request was successful (the photo was successfully uploaded), and it even says that it rendered the create action, yet I never get the alert. My browser shows NO javascript errors. Here's the log AFTER a request from the above POST request is submitted: Processing PhotosController#create (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-03-16 14:35:33) [POST] Parameters: {"Filename"=>"tumblr_kx74k06IuI1qzt6cxo1_400.jpg", "photo"=>{"user_id"=>"1", "image"=>#<File:/tmp/RackMultipart20100316-54303-7r2npu-0>}, "commit"=>"Adding Photo", "_edited_session"=>"edited", "folder"=>"/kakagiloon/", "authenticity_token"=>"edited", "action"=>"create", "_method"=>"post", "Upload"=>"Submit Query", "controller"=>"photos"} [paperclip] Saving attachments.   • Gtk+ Tables for Layout - Good or Bad?

    - by wag2639
Hi, I'm just starting to play around with GTK+ and I wanted to stop bad habits before they happen. I see that GTK+ seems to be a little based in HTML/CSS and I was wondering if there are any reasons to avoid using tables for layout.

  • What is the purpose of the CreateSilverlight.js?

    - by mattruma
I am trying to get out of browser support working for my Silverlight application and keep bumping into examples that reference CreateSilverlight.js. Looks like it has a variety of options to configure the the Silverlight experience for the end user. Is this a Microsoft javascript file for Silverlight? If so, where would I find it? I would have expected it to have already been added to my Silverlight project. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Get JS file via HTTPS from a HTTP page

    - by Mike
Okay, so what are the ramifications of getting a JS file via an HTTPS call while on a HTTP page. I assume it would just be a little bit of extra overhead. Would there be any warnings about this call from any certain browser? Don't ask why. It's just hypothetical.

  • adding a js method

    - by Sorin Buturugeanu
Hi! I have a js function that is named getID which is basically return document.getElementById(id) I want to make another function, getTag that would return getElementsByTagName. The part that I can't seem to manage is that I want to be able to call them like this: getID('myid').getTag('input') = so this would return all the input elements inside the element with the id myid Thanks! ps: getTag would also have to work if it's called by it's own, but then it would just return document.getElementsByTagName

  • [Java2D] Is this bad practice? Multiple Graphics2D Objects

    - by m00st
I've created a JPanel canvas that holds all graphics; namely JLabel. To get animated sprites to work you have to over ride the paintComponent of the extended JLabel class. I've successfully implemented animated sprites this way. Is it bad practice to have a Graphics2D canvas and then have multiple 'images' in their own Graphics2D?
