  • Why does my finite state machine take so long to execute?

    - by BillyONeal
    Hello all :) I'm working on a state machine which is supposed to extract function calls of the form /* I am a comment */ //I am a comment perf("this.is.a.string.which\"can have QUOTES\"", 123456); where the extracted data would be perf("this.is.a.string.which\"can have QUOTES\"", 123456); from a file. Currently, to process a 41kb file, this process is taking close to a minute and a half. Is there something I'm seriously misunderstanding here about this finite state machine? #include <boost/algorithm/string.hpp> std::vector<std::string> Foo() { std::string fileData; //Fill filedata with the contents of a file std::vector<std::string> results; std::string::iterator begin = fileData.begin(); std::string::iterator end = fileData.end(); std::string::iterator stateZeroFoundLocation = fileData.begin(); std::size_t state = 0; for(; begin < end; begin++) { switch (state) { case 0: if (boost::starts_with(boost::make_iterator_range(begin, end), "pref(")) { stateZeroFoundLocation = begin; begin += 4; state = 2; } else if (*begin == '/') state = 1; break; case 1: state = 0; switch (*begin) { case '*': begin = boost::find_first(boost::make_iterator_range(begin, end), "*/").end(); break; case '/': begin = std::find(begin, end, L'\n'); } break; case 2: if (*begin == '"') state = 3; break; case 3: switch(*begin) { case '\\': state = 4; break; case '"': state = 5; } break; case 4: state = 3; break; case 5: if (*begin == ',') state = 6; break; case 6: if (*begin != ' ') state = 7; break; case 7: switch(*begin) { case '"': state = 8; break; default: state = 10; break; } break; case 8: switch(*begin) { case '\\': state = 9; break; case '"': state = 10; } break; case 9: state = 8; break; case 10: if (*begin == ')') state = 11; break; case 11: if (*begin == ';') state = 12; break; case 12: state = 0; results.push_back(std::string(stateZeroFoundLocation, begin)); }; } return results; } Billy3

  • Swing: what to do when a JTree update takes too long and freezes other GUI elements?

    - by java.is.for.desktop
    Hello, everyone! I know that GUI code in Java Swing must be put inside SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait or SwingUtilities.invokeLater. This way threading works fine. Sadly, in my situation, the GUI update it that thing which takes much longer than background thread(s). More specific: I update a JTree with about just 400 entries, nesting depth is maximum 4, so should be nothing scary, right? But it takes sometimes one second! I need to ensure that the user is able to type in a JTextPane without delays. Well, guess what, the slow JTree updates do cause delays for JTextPane during input. It refreshes only as soon as the tree gets updated. I am using Netbeans and know empirically that a Java app can update lots of information without freezing the rest of the UI. How can it be done? NOTE 1: All those DefaultMutableTreeNodes are prepared outside the invokeAndWait. NOTE 2: When I replace invokeAndWait with invokeLater the tree doesn't get updated. NOTE 3: Fond out that recursive tree expansion takes far the most time. NOTE 4: I'm using custom tree cell renderer, will try without and report. NOTE 4a: My tree cell renderer uses a map to cache and reuse created JTextComponents, depending on tree node (as a key). CLUE 1: Wow! Without setting custom cell renderer it's 10 times faster. I think, I'll need few good tutorials on writing custom tree cell renderers.

  • Why so Long time span in creating Session Factory?

    - by vijay.shad
    Hi My project is web application running in the tomcat container. This application is a spring framework based hibernate application. • Using Sub-Types And Return Types in Scala to Process a Generic Object Into a Specific One

    - by pr1001
    I think this is about covariance but I'm weak on the topic... I have a generic Event class used for things like database persistance, let's say like this: class Event( subject: Long, verb: String, directobject: Option[Long], indirectobject: Option[Long], timestamp: Long) { def getSubject = subject def getVerb = verb def getDirectObject = directobject def getIndirectObject = indirectobject def getTimestamp = timestamp } However, I have lots of different event verbs and I want to use pattern matching and such with these different event types, so I will create some corresponding case classes: trait EventCC case class Login(user: Long, timestamp: Long) extends EventCC case class Follow( follower: Long, followee: Long, timestamp: Long ) extends EventCC Now, the question is, how can I easily convert generic Events to the specific case classes. This is my first stab at it: def event2CC[T <: EventCC](event: Event): T = event.getVerb match { case "login" => Login(event.getSubject, event.getTimestamp) case "follow" => Follow( event.getSubject, event.getDirectObject.getOrElse(0), event.getTimestamp ) // ... } Unfortunately, this is wrong. <console>:11: error: type mismatch; found : Login required: T case "login" => Login(event.getSubject, event.getTimestamp) ^ <console>:12: error: type mismatch; found : Follow required: T case "follow" => Follow(event.getSubject, event.getDirectObject.getOrElse(0), event.getTimestamp) Could someone with greater type-fu than me explain if, 1) if what I want to do is possible (or reasonable, for that matter), and 2) if so, how to fix event2CC. Thanks!

  • Deserialize complex JSON (VB.NET)

    - by Ssstefan
    I'm trying to deserialize json returned by some directions API similar to Google Maps API. My JSON is as follows (I'm using VB.NET 2008): jsontext = { "version":0.3, "status":0, "route_summary": { "total_distance":300, "total_time":14, "start_point":"43", "end_point":"42" }, "route_geometry":[[51.025421,18.647631],[51.026131,18.6471],[51.027802,18.645639]], "route_instructions": [["Head northwest on 43",88,0,4,"88 m","NW",334.8],["Continue on 42",212,1,10,"0.2 km","NW",331.1,"C",356.3]] } So far I came up with the following code: Dim js As New System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer Dim lstTextAreas As Output_CloudMade() = js.Deserialize(Of Output_CloudMade())(jsontext) I'm not sure how to define complex class, i.e. Output_CloudMade. I'm trying something like: Public Class RouteSummary Private mTotalDist As Long Private mTotalTime As Long Private mStartPoint As String Private mEndPoint As String Public Property TotalDist() As Long Get Return mTotalDist End Get Set(ByVal value As Long) mTotalDist = value End Set End Property Public Property TotalTime() As Long Get Return mTotalTime End Get Set(ByVal value As Long) mTotalTime = value End Set End Property Public Property StartPoint() As String Get Return mStartPoint End Get Set(ByVal value As String) mStartPoint = value End Set End Property Public Property EndPoint() As String Get Return mEndPoint End Get Set(ByVal value As String) mEndPoint = value End Set End Property End Class Public Class Output_CloudMade Private mVersion As Double Private mStatus As Long Private mRSummary As RouteSummary 'Private mRGeometry As RouteGeometry 'Private mRInstructions As RouteInstructions Public Property Version() As Double Get Return mVersion End Get Set(ByVal value As Double) mVersion = value End Set End Property Public Property Status() As Long Get Return mStatus End Get Set(ByVal value As Long) mStatus = value End Set End Property Public Property Summary() As RouteSummary Get Return mRSummary End Get Set(ByVal value As RouteSummary) mRSummary = value End Set End Property 'Public Property Geometry() As String ' Get ' End Get ' Set(ByVal value As String) ' End Set 'End Property 'Public Property Instructions() As String ' Get ' End Get ' Set(ByVal value As String) ' End Set 'End Property End Class but it does not work. The problem is with complex properties, like route_summary. It is filled with "nothing". Other properties, like "status" or "version" are filled properly. Any ideas, how to define class for the above JSON? Can you share some working code for deserializing JSON in VB.NET? Thanks,

  • How to avoid timestamp issue in a long query?

    - by pingi
    Hi, I have the following 2 tables: items: id int primary key bla text events: id_items int num int when timestamp without time zone ble text composite primary key: id_items, num and want to select to each item the most recent event (the newest 'when'). I wrote an request, but I don't know if it could be written more efficiently. Also on PostgreSQL there is a issue with comparing Timestamp objects: 2010-05-08T10:00:00.123 == 2010-05-08T10:00:00.321 so I select with 'MAX(num)' Any thoughts how to make it better? Thanks. SELECT i.*, ea.* FROM items AS i JOIN ( SELECT t.s AS t_s, t.c AS t_c, max(e.num) AS o FROM events AS e JOIN ( SELECT DISTINCT id_item AS s, MAX(when) AS c FROM events GROUP BY s ORDER BY c ) AS t ON t.s = e.id_item AND e.when = t.c GROUP BY t.s, t.c ) AS tt ON tt.t_s = i.id JOIN events AS ea ON ea.id_item = tt.t_s AND ea.cas = tt.t_c AND ea.num = tt.o;

  • How can i get rid of 'ORA-01489: result of string concatenation is too long' in this query?

    - by core_pro
    this query gets the dominating sets in a network. so for example given a network A<----->B B<----->C B<----->D C<----->E D<----->C D<----->E F<----->E it returns B,E B,F A,E but it doesn't work for large data because i'm using string methods in my result. i have been trying to remove the string methods and return a view or something but to no avail With t as (select 'A' as per1, 'B' as per2 from dual union all select 'B','C' from dual union all select 'B','D' from dual union all select 'C','B' from dual union all select 'C','E' from dual union all select 'D','C' from dual union all select 'D','E' from dual union all select 'E','C' from dual union all select 'E','D' from dual union all select 'F','E' from dual) ,t2 as (select distinct least(per1, per2) as per1, greatest(per1, per2) as per2 from t union select distinct greatest(per1, per2) as per1, least(per1, per2) as per1 from t) ,t3 as (select per1, per2, row_number() over (partition by per1 order by per2) as rn from t2) ,people as (select per, row_number() over (order by per) rn from (select distinct per1 as per from t union select distinct per2 from t) ) ,comb as (select sys_connect_by_path(per,',')||',' as p from people connect by rn > prior rn ) ,find as (select p, per2, count(*) over (partition by p) as cnt from ( select distinct comb.p, t3.per2 from comb, t3 where instr(comb.p, ','||t3.per1||',') > 0 or instr(comb.p, ','||t3.per2||',') > 0 ) ) ,rnk as (select p, rank() over (order by length(p)) as rnk from find where cnt = (select count(*) from people) order by rnk ) select distinct trim(',' from p) as p from rnk where rnk.rnk = 1`

  • Java: Stopping a thread that has run for too long?

    - by Thomas King
    Say I've got something like this public void run(){ Thread behaviourThread = new Thread(abstractBehaviours[i]); behaviourThread.start(); } And I want to wait until abstractBehaviours[i] run method has either finished or run for 5000 milliseconds. How do I do that? behaviourThread.join(5000) doesn't seem to do that afaik (something is wrong with my code and I've put it down to that). All the abstract abstractBehaviour class is of course Runnable. I don't want to implement it inside each run method as that seems ugly and there are many different behaviours, I'd much rather have it in the calling/executing thread and do it just once. Solutions? First time doing something as threaded as this. Thanks!

  • How long do you keep session cookies around for?

    - by user246114
    Hi, I'm implementing a web app, which uses sessions. I'm using GWT and app engine as my client/server, but I don't think they're doing anything really different than I would do with PHP and apache etc. When a user logs into my web app, I am using HttpSession to start a session for them. I get the session id like this: // From my login servlet: getThreadLocalRequest().getSession(false).getId(); I return the sessionId back to the client, and they store it in a cookie. The tutorial I'm using sets this cookie to 'expire' in two weeks: Cookie.write("sid", theSessionId, 1000 * 60 * 60 * 24 * 14); // two weeks Here's where I'm confused: if the cookie expires in two weeks, then my user will go along using the webapp happily, only to one day browse to my site and be shown a login screen. What are my options? Can I just set no expiration time for this cookie? That way the user would have to explicitly log out, otherwise they could just use the app forever without having to log back in? Or is there a better way to do this? I can't remember sites like Twitter having ever asked me to log back in again. I seem to be permanently logged in. Do they just set no expiration? The webapp isn't protecting any sort of highly sensitive data, so I don't mind leaving a cookie that doesn't expire, but it seems like there must be a better way? This is the tutorial I'm referencing: http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit-incubator/wiki/LoginSecurityFAQ Thanks

  • Providing lat/long AND title in iOS Maps URL seems to cause zoom level to be ignored

    - by Ian Howson
    I'm writing an iOS app that shows a location in Maps upon a user action. I'd like to drop a pin with a description and zoom in to show map detail. If I invoke Maps with the url http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-33.895851,151.18483+(Some+Description)&z=19 I get a pin with 'Some Description', but the zoom level is ignored. This does work on the Google Maps website. If I use http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-33.895851,151.18483&z=19 the zoom works, but I get no pin. I've tried a few combinations of ?q=, ?ll= and ?sll=, but so far, nothing will change zoom and show a description. Any clues? Just so we're really clear, here are some screenshots. I want this to work on a real device (i.e. with iOS Maps). The simulator uses Google Maps through Safari. Here's what I see with URL 1 ([[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString: @"http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-33.895851,151.18483+(Some+Description)&z=19"]];) This is URL 2 ([[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString: @"http://maps.google.com/maps?q=-33.895851,151.18483&z=19"]];): This is relikd's suggestion ([[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString: @"http://maps.google.com/maps?z=19&q=-33.895851,151.18483+(Some+Description)"]];): I want the image I see in screenshot 2, but with a pin and a description.

  • C# : Forcing a clean run in a long running SQL reader loop?

    - by Wardy
    I have a SQL data reader that reads 2 columns from a sql db table. once it has done its bit it then starts again selecting another 2 columns. I would pull the whole lot in one go but that presents a whole other set of challenges. My problem is that the table contains a large amount of data (some 3 million rows or so) which makes working with the entire set a bit of a problem. I'm trying to validate the field values so i'm pulling the ID column then one of the other cols and running each value in the column through a validation pipeline where the results are stored in another database. My problem is that when the reader hits the end of handlin one column I need to force it to immediately clean up every little block of ram used as this process uses about 700MB and it has about 200 columns to go through. Without a full Garbage Collect I will definately run out of ram. Anyone got any ideas how I can do this? I'm using lots of small reusable objects, my thought was that I could just call GC.Collect() on the end of each read cycle and that would flush everything out, unfortunately that isn't happening for some reason.

  • Ajax/PHP - should I use one long running script or polling?

    - by Brian
    Hello, I have a PHP script that is kicked off via ajax. This PHP script uses exec() to run a separate PHP script via the shell. The script that is called via exec() may take 30 seconds or so to complete. I need to update the UI once it is finished. Which of these options is preferred? a) Leave the HTTP connection open for the 30 seconds and wait for it to finish. b) Have exec() run the PHP script in the background and then use ajax polling to check for completion (every 5 seconds or so). c) Something else that I haven't thought of. Thank you, Brian

  • Show extra info for Preference screens when CheckboxPreference summary field is not enough long?

    - by Pentium10
    I have situation when you can enabled/disable modules for my Android application. For this I use a CheckboxPreference screen. This is all good, but the summary field gets cut off if longer descriptions are added than 2 lines. Suppose I have 4-5 lines of description available for each module, I would like to display this in a helper window. I tried to bind a click event to the CheckboxPreference, but that fires for the whole line, so not only when the checkbox is clicked, and more, where ever you click on the line the checkbox is toggled. So now I am wondering if this can be fixed. So if the user needs more info, just taps the text and the helper opens up, and if want to toggle the settings it taps the checkbox. How would you do it? I am open to other ideas too, if they do work.

  • Is it bad practice to have a long initialization method?

    - by Paperflyer
    many people have argued about function size. They say that functions in general should be pretty short. Opinions vary from something like 15 lines to "about one screen", which today is probably about 40-80 lines. Also, functions should always fulfill one task only. However, there is one kind of function that frequently fails in both criteria in my code: initialization functions. For example in an audio application, the audio hardware/API has to be set up, audio data has to be converted to a suitable format and the object state has to properly initialized. These are clearly three different tasks and depending on the API this can easily span more than 50 lines. The thing with init-functions is that they are generally only called once, so there is no need to re-use any of the components. Would you still break them up into several smaller functions would you consider big initialization functions to be ok?

  • Long running, polling, queueing process for Python. What's the best stuff to use?

    - by Bialecki
    Feel free to close and/or redirect if this has been asked, but here's my situation: I've got an application that will require doing a bunch of small units of work (polling a web service until something is done, then parsing about 1MB worth of XML and putting it in a database). I want to have a simple async queueing mechanism that'll poll for work to do in a queue, execute the units of work that need to be done, and have the flexibility to allow for spawning multiple worker processes so these units of work can be done in parallel. (Bonus if there's some kind of event framework that would also me to listen for when work is complete.) I'm sure there is stuff to do this. Am I describing Twisted? I poked through the documentation, I'm just not sure exactly how my problems maps onto their framework, but I haven't spent much time with it. Should I just look at the multiprocess libraries in Python? Something else?

  • Why does sending post data with WebRequest take so long?

Starting request at 22/04/2010 12:15:42 Finished creating request : took 00:00:00.0570057 Transmitting data at 22/04/2010 12:15:42 Transmitted the data : took 00:00:06.9316931 <<-- Getting the response at 22/04/2010 12:15:49 Getting response 00:00:00.0360036 Finished response 00:00:00.0360036 Entire call took 00:00:07.0247024 As you can see it is taking 6 seconds to actually send the data to the script, I have done further testing bye sending data from telnet and by sending post data from a local file to the url and they dont even take a second so this is not a problem with the hosted script on the site. Why is it taking 6 seconds to transmit the data when it is two simple strings? I use a custom class to send the data class httppostdata { WebRequest request; WebResponse response; public string senddata(string url, string postdata) { var start = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Starting request at " + start.ToString()); // create the request to the url passed in the paramaters request = (WebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url); // set the method to post request.Method = "POST"; // set the content type and the content length request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; request.ContentLength = postdata.Length; // convert the post data into a byte array byte[] byteData = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(postdata); var end1 = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Finished creating request : took " + (end1 - start)); var start2 = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Transmitting data at " + start2.ToString()); // get the request stream and write the data to it Stream dataStream = request.GetRequestStream(); dataStream.Write(byteData, 0, byteData.Length); dataStream.Close(); var end2 = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Transmitted the data : took " + (end2 - start2)); // get the response var start3 = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Getting the response at " + start3.ToString()); response = request.GetResponse(); //Console.WriteLine(((WebResponse)response).StatusDescription); dataStream = response.GetResponseStream(); StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(dataStream); var end3 = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Getting response " + (end3 - start3)); // read the response string serverresponse = reader.ReadToEnd(); var end3a = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Finished response " + (end3a - start3)); Console.WriteLine("Entire call took " + (end3a - start)); //Console.WriteLine(serverresponse); reader.Close(); dataStream.Close(); response.Close(); return serverresponse; } } And to call it I use private void btnLogin_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { // string postdata; if (txtUsername.Text.Length < 3 || txtPassword.Text.Length < 3) { MessageBox.Show("Missing your username or password."); } else { string postdata = "username=" + txtUsername.Text + "&password=" + txtPassword.Text; httppostdata myPost = new httppostdata(); string response = myPost.senddata("http://www.domainname.com/scriptname.php", postdata); MessageBox.Show(response); } }

  • Why does SQLite take such a long time to fetch the data?

    - by Derk
    I have two possible queries, both giving the result set I want. Query one takes about 30ms, but 150ms to fetch the data from the database. SELECT id FROM featurevalues as featval3 WHERE featval3.feature IN (?,?,?,?) AND EXISTS ( SELECT 1 FROM product_to_value, product_to_value as prod2, features, featurevalues WHERE product_to_value.feature = features.int AND product_to_value.value = featurevalues.id AND features.id = ? AND featurevalues.id IN (?,?) AND product_to_value.product = prod2.product AND prod2.value = featval3.id ) Query two takes about 3ms -this is the one I therefore prefer-, but also takes 170ms to fetch the data. SELECT ( SELECT prod2.value FROM product_to_value, product_to_value as prod2, features, featurevalues WHERE product_to_value.feature = features.int AND product_to_value.value = featurevalues.id AND features.id = ? AND featurevalues.id IN (?,?) AND product_to_value.product = prod2.product AND prod2.value = featval3.id ) as id FROM featurevalues as featval3 WHERE featval3.feature IN (?,?,?,?) The 170ms seems to be related to the number of rows from table featval3. After an index is used on featval3.feature IN (?,?,?,?), 151 items "remain" in featval3. Is there something obvious I am missing regarding the slow fetching? As far as I know everything is properly indexed.. I am confused because the second query only takes a blazing 3ms to run.
