  • Subscribe/Publish Model in Web-based Application (c#) - Best Practices for Event Handlers

    I was recently exposed to a desktop application that uses an publish/subscribe model to handle commands, events, etc. I can't seem to find any good examples of using this in a web application, so I wonder if I am off base in trying to use this for web based development (on the server side)? I'm using asp.net c#. My main question in regards to the design is: When using a publish/subscribe model, is it better to have generic commands/events that pass no parameters and then have the subscribers look at static context objects that contain the data relevant to the event? Or is it better to create custom arguments for every event that contain data related to the event? The whole concept of a global container seems so convenient but at the same time seems to break encapsulation. Any thoughts or best practices from anyone who has implemented this type of model in a web based application? Even suggestions on this model out of the scope of my question are appreciated.

A form with a button <form action="test.htm" method="post"> <input name="Button1" type="submit" value="button" /> </form> It doesn't work. Press the button in firefox and I got connection reset thingy. I wonder why. It happens since yesterday. I have emigrated all domains that requires post requests somewhere else. I suppose a reset of server would fix that only to happen again some other time. So I wonder if anyone has a clue of why. All domains that require post have been moved to another server.

    The interest for having a GlassFish community event at JavaOne is still very strong both inside Oracle and in the community, so this year again we'll be hosting a get together on the Sunday prior to the main event. If you're in town and attending JavaOne, mark your calendars : Sunday 2nd, October 2011 - 12:30pm-4:30pm in the Moscone This will be an opportunity to discuss the community status (adoption of Java EE 6, GlassFish 3.1.x) and hear about future plans, mainly around Java EE 7 and the related GlassFish release(s). We'd also like to have several participants share their deployment stories as well as some time for an free-form unconference format and some team building activity. Of course, beyond all the content shared in slides, this should really also be a good excuse to meet folks from the community and from the core GlassFish team at Oracle. Here's a post on last year's event. And before anybody asks, we are still exploring the party situation :-)

  • Google Analytics Request URI to Event advanced filter

    I have a query string attached to a Request URI. Whilst I can see this data within the pages report and it works, I was thinking about setting up an advanced filter to convert the request URI to an Event, with the hope this would clean up my pages report and sit this query with related events in my data. I can see in advanced filters that this is possible, but seems limited to specifying a single event area, so Cat, action or Label, not all 3. Does any one know how I could set up an advanced filter to find any URIs that contain a specific query string, say example below. www.example.com?querystring=123 and convert this into an event, where I can set the Cat, action and label.

  • Reasons why AppHub samples won't build?

    I have an issue off of most downloaded projects where whenever I build it, VS2010 just crashes. I had this issue a while before, and it was widespread, I reinstalled, and it worked fine afterwards. If I create my own XNA project, and copy all of classes and assets over (which I admit, is super fun anyway) things build fine. But if I just download the project from here http://create.msdn.com/en-US/education/catalog/sample/roleplaying_game (RolePlayingGame_4_0_Win_Xbox.zip) and try to build, it automatically stops working, restarts, and reopens the project. If I Debug/Deploy to my Xbox, I do get a sucessful version to the Xbox, but VS2010 still stops and restarts. I've already repaired, and reinstalled again, still having the issue. Can anything think of plausible solutions?

    Hi, I am using TFS2008 and VS2008. I run nightly builds for about 20 applications using one build agent and the builds are scheduled for either 1am or 2am. Most of the build succeed, however 6 of them fail regularly with similar errors. The errors are either the first two below, or the third one by itself: TF215085: An error occurred while connecting to agent \xxxx\BUILDMACHINE: TF215076: Team Foundation Build on computer BUILDMACHINE (port 9191) is not responding. (Detail Message: The request was aborted: The operation has timed out.) 11/04/2010 2:10:10 AM TF224003: An exception occurred on the build computer BUILDMACHINE: The build (vstfs:///Build/Build/2632) has already completed and cannot be started again.. TF215085: An error occurred while connecting to agent \yyyyy\BA_WKSTFSBUILD: Team Foundation services are not available from server srvtfs. Technical information (for administrator): The operation has timed out It looks to me like some kind of communication error, maybe the port gets over loaded - can this happen? Should I spread the builds out a bit more? In the build definition it says "Queue the build on the default build agent at", so I figured if I scheduled them to start at the same time they would be queued and occur sequentially. Most of the suggestions I've found online for these errors are for all or nothing scenarios where no builds work at all whereas my problem is most build but some consistently do not. Judging by the dates of the last successful builds of these 6 failing builds I believe it is the same 6 failing every night. (I'm editing the build definitions now to keep the failed builds so I can get some more info on the problem) Any help on this would be much appreciated. James.

  • How to Increment Visual Studio build number using C++?

    I have a Visual Studio 2008 project that produces a file called: "Game-Release.exe". This was configured under Project Properties - C/C++ - Linker - General: $(OutDir)\$(ProjectName)-Release.exe I would like to take this a bit further by have an incrementing build number so I would have something which says: Game-Release-Build-1002.exe The number on the end should be an incrementing integer. I will be storing the build exe's on subversion so I think i would find this useful (although not necessary). Perhaps there is a built in macro in Visual Studio that could handle this. Quite possibly I was thinking I could have a text file with the build number in it and have the compiler read, use and increment the number in the file each time the project is built. My goal is however to make the process as automated as possible. What is the best way to accomplish this? If you offer an opinion, please also provide the code we can all share. Thnx.

  • How to automate a build for a Visual FoxPro project?

    I'm interested in figuring out how to automate a build from Visual FoxPro similar to how we can build .NET projects from the command line using MSBuild. It seems that it is possible to pass command line arguments to VFP.exe which may include the ability to specify some initial startup prg that runs however it is unclear how well starting up the IDE will work from non-interactive accounts such as the Network Service on Windows which is likely where an automated build would run. Has anybody attempt this before or read about anybody attempting to script a VFP build like this? I would be grateful for any pointers that may lead me to a solution.

  • Not all TFS Build type files are getting copied

    Because I have several builds sharing some assemblies containing common build tasks, I have one TFSBuild.proj for all builds and import different targets depending on the build, like the following: <Project DefaultTargets="DesktopBuild" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/msbuild/2003" ToolsVersion="3.5"> <Import Project="Build_1.targets" Condition="'$(BuildDefinition)'=='Build_1'" /> <Import Project="Build_2.targets" Condition="'$(BuildDefinition)'=='Build_2'" /> <Import Project="Build_3.targets" Condition="'$(BuildDefinition)'=='Build_3'" /> </Project> Each target for a particular build has your usual content for a build type file, but in my case, I also reference some tasks inside assemblies checked into the same folder as TFSBuild.proj in source control. I wanted to add folders to contain some test build targets, since my folder was getting a bit full and cluttered. The following illustrates what I mean. $(TFS project)\build\ TFSBuild.proj Build_1.targets ... Assembly1.dll Assembly2.dll ... Folder\ Test_target_1.targets .... When I stated my build, however, I found that Test_target_1.targets and other files in Folder were not being copied to the build directory, while TFSBuild.proj and other files in the root level, as it were, of the build type folder were being copied. This caused my test build to not be able to reference files inside Folder, causing my build to immediately fail. I realize the simplest work-around would be to get rid of Folder and move all of its contents up to the build folder, but I would really like to have Folder if at all possible.     Im using an ant build file that has been generated by android. Our Android application requires a JAR file that lives inside the lib folder of our project, so I need to adjust the classpath that ant is using when it builds stuff. When I run: ant -lib lib debug the project builds just fine, but this should really be inside the build file itself. The build file that android generates references the android_rules.xml so a lot of this stuff is automated. I guess my question, what the best practice here when working with the Android build rules ?

    By default ASP.NET writes any unhandled exception to the default ASP.NET X.Y.Z.0 event log source. Is it possible to specify either configuration that the events and exceptions for a particular application has to be logged in a specific event log Source? The reason is that I would want all issues directly related to my application to be stored in a separate event log category that can then be filtered against.

  • How to name an event handler of a private variable in Vb.Net following FxCop rules and Vb.Net standa

    Hello, On one side, in Vb.Net when you add an event handler to an object the created method is named: <NameOfTheObject>_<NameOfTheMethod>. As I like to have consistent syntax I always follow this rule when creating event handlers by hand. On the other side when I create private variables I prefix them with m_ as this is a common thing used by the community, in C# people use to put _ at the beginning of a variable but this is no CLS compliant. At the end, when I create event handlers for events raised by private variables I end with Subs like m_myVariable_MyEvent. Code Analysis (Fx Cop) is complainig about this way of naming because the method does not start with uppercase and because the _, so the question is: What naming standards do you follow when creating event handlers by hand that follow the Fxcop rules if any?     This fails: $ curl --trace multipart-fail.log -F "source={}" http://127.0.0.1:3003/jslint With a squid status 417 error, ERR_INVALID_REQ. trace of failing curl request trace of successful curl request that uses urlencoding (curl -d) instead of multipart (curl -F) formatted version of squid's error message I've never had this in practice through a web browser, so it's probably curl usage instead of squid, but if I tell curl not to use the squid proxy, the web application on the other end accepts it just fine. (If there's a more appropriate StackExchange site for this, please let me know.)

    I am trying to set up a headless build for a big eclipse feature, containing other features and plugins. As some needed plugins are generated using GMF and EMF, the build workflow must be something like this: SVN Check-out Invoke Generation Run Tests Build all Publish update-site Over the last couple of weeks, i played around with PDE Headless Build and Buckminster. Anyhow i still got problems with both and can't decide on which i should spent my effort. So what would you prefer? What experience you made? Anybody out there who needed to set up a similiar workflow before? Thank you for all answers :)

  • How do I reference SSIS on a build machine without installing SQL Server 2008 Client Tools?

    I need to build SSIS packages on a build machine, and do not want the overhead of installing SQL Server Management Studio on this machine. A SQL Server 2008 SDK would be ideal, but I could not find where to download it. The dlls I require are (for example): Microsoft.SQLServer.ManagedDTS Microsoft.SqlServer.PipelineHost Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap Microsoft.SQLServer.DTSRuntimeWrap I could attempt to copy them to the build machine individually, but I would rather just use an SDK if possible. Where can I get the SDK, or alternatively, what suggestions are there?
