    I have four nameservers registered for a domain: ns1.primary-nameserver.net ns2.primary-nameserver.net a.ns.secondary-nameserver.net b.ns.secondary-nameserver.net How can I find out how much usage each nameserver is getting? Or is it safe to assume that it's 25% to each? Update I don't control the nameservers, they are provided by third party suppliers like DNS Made Easy, Zerigo, Route 53, etc. I am trying to establish whether all listed nameservers are used equally.

    I want to back up the master boot on my hard drive, in case something screws it up. What software do you recommend for this? My first idea is to boot from a Linux CD and dd the first 512 bytes of /dev/sda, and dd it back to recover. Will this solution work, and is it safe?

    Amazon AWS sent me an email about warning that my instance have been behaving like Phising that is against AWS Customer Agreement. And they noticed that they blocked port 80 and 443 which are for HTTP and HTTPS respectively. Google Safe Browsing also reported that some code injection was made to one of my websites. After a cleaning, Google stopped blocking my website displaying in the search result. So, how can I unblock my ports?

  • All office apps crash immediately on server 2008

    Hi, I have a brand new windows 2008 server (64 bit) with a brand new installation of Office 2007, fully patched with all windows updates etc. Every time I try to run any of the office apps it crashes immediately, even in safe mode. the only remotely useful information I get is: Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Data: 00000008 If I Run in compatibility mode for windows XP, everything is fine. Anyone ever seen this before? I've tried turning off DEP but that made no difference either Thanks Tim

Right now, in our system, Firefox 10 and IE 8 are cleared as 'good-to-use', but Chrome isn't.     I have my Time Machine backups on an external disk (WD My Passport with no hardware encryption) and I'm worried if the data stored on the disk is safe in case somebody steals it and connect it to any Mac/PC. Does any Mac can browse the Time Machine backups? Or are they encrypted in any way? If no, is there a way to improve security of the backups, should I buy a hardware encryption based HD? Thanks.

I have noticed that this is happening usually when I leave computer to get coffee, and screensaver comes up, WLM breaks. Is there any way to prevent this error from happening?     I'm trying to understand why when launching a new instance Amazon defaults to EBS (8gb root) instead of instance storage. Why do they sell instance storage then if it's not used also to boot the base system? Is it safe to uncheck delete on termination, make it bigger (~50GiB) and keep all files on that EBS instead of creating a new one to make sure data will persist and it will also be usable by another instance?

    So, when I'm browsing in firefox, some letters look grainy or glowing, does anyone know what might be causing this? It doesn't show on all website, only some. It almost looks like Firefox is trying to render different font colours on top of eachother and blends them in the process somehow.   • Windows Server 2008 Black Screen on boot

    Hi I have a windows server 2008 running in Parrallels (on Mac osx)... the mac crashed yesterday and so I hard rebooted it, when I fired up the Windows Server 2008 VM this morning it goes as far as the progress bar then goes black screen and does nothing else (even when left for a long time). I can boot into safe mode, Event Viewer says: "The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: spldr stoflt" Any ideas? What should I do next?

    I want anyone in group www-data to have write access to /var/www. For example, if 'a' and 'b' are in group www-data and 'a' creates a file in /var/www - then 'b' will be able to edit it. The problem is that I create files that PHP and Apache can't edit - and they create files I can't edit without sudo. I changed the umask setting /etc/profile from umask 022 to umask 002. Is this a safe and proper way to handle this?

I have read about the RAID5 write hole and am concerned: if my linux system locks up or kernel panics, should I be assume that the integrety of my data has been compromised and restore from backup? How can I know if the data on the RAID5 array is "safe"?
