  Birds may fly south for the winter, but I will be heading to Ottawa, Ontario next week for a workshop on 15-FEB. I'm pretty used to winter because I grew up in the snow belt southeast of Buffalo, NY -- and this winter in New England is helping me get prepared as well. For reference, the big lump is my gas grill. Anyway, I'm looking forward to a good workshop and to visiting Ottawa for my first time. • Desktop sharing options for Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity

  I would like to be able to access my office Ubuntu 12.04 machine from home, from a Mac Mini with Mac OSX. I have a VPN and I am able to access my office machine over SSH, so connectivity is not a problem. I browsed other questions, and it seems that there are several options: VNC XRDP FreeNX (haven't heard this one before) Are there any other? I have been using Remote Desktop on Windows before, and I actually like it. Not sure how well is XRDP implemented. I also used VNC several years back, and I didn't like its performance back then - not sure if things have changed since then. As I said above, the machine I want to access is running Ubuntu 12.04, with Unity. And I am using Unity by choice - I really like it and would like to continue using it :) The client computer is running Mac OSX (Snow Leopard). Based on your previous experience what is the best setup for this environment?

• Is it possible to install Ubuntu 10.10 and/or Ubuntu 11.04 on a late 2009 iMac?

  I would like to install Ubuntu on my iMac 10,1 (21.5 inch display). I would prefer to instal Natty Narwhal, but would surely settle for Maverick Meerkat (which I have a install dvd of). I have an install of OS X Snow Leopard AND a Bootcamp Partition of Windows 7. I would like to keep all these partitions and setup a triple boot system. If it can work, I'm also wondering if it'd be safe to install all updates from the update manager once it's installed. Thank you in advance. :)

  Hi, I'm on Mac Snow Leopard and I just installed git. I just tried git clone [email protected]:cakebook.git but that gives me this error. Initialized empty Git repository in /Users/username/Documents/cakebook/.git/ Permission denied (publickey). fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly What am I missing?   Hi, I have MAC OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and according to Apple's guide on HTTP Live Streaming, the mediafilesegmenter tool should be there in /usr/bin/ directory but it isnt. There is only the mediastreamsegmenter there. I need the mediafilesegmenter tool to segment MPEG2 Transport streams. How can I get/install the mediafilesegmenter tool? Thanks and regards, Farish

  When I run "cabal update" on my Mac (Snow Leopard, Intel), I get: % cabal update Downloading the latest package list from hackage.haskell.org cabal: Codec.Compression.Zlib: incompatible zlib version Anyone else seeing this? Reinstalling the Haskell Platform hasn't helped. I'm unable to install or update Cabal packages at the moment, so I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

  My company uses Vertica. We have Python applications that connect to it with pyodbc. I do most of my development on a Mac (Snow Leopard) and unfortunately Vertica has not released ODBC drivers for Mac. They do have JDBC drivers though. I don't think developing in Jython is a good compromise. Is there any way to use JDBC drivers with an ODBC application? Some kind of ODBC connector?

  When I pass compiler flag "-mmacosx-version-min=10.5", what does it mean? I think it implies the result binary is x86, not ppc, but is it 32 bits or 64 bits? I'm compiling on snow leopard, so default output binary is 64 bits. I'm not passing -universal, it's not 32bit-64bit universal binary, I think.
