    I have a database that I need to connect to and select from. I have an SQL Login, let's call it myusername. When I use the following, no SELECT permission shows up: SELECT * FROM fn_my_permissions ('dbo.mytable', 'OBJECT') GO Several times I tried things like: USE mydatabase GO GRANT SELECT TO myusername GO GRANT SELECT ON DATABASE::mydatabase TO myusername GO GRANT SELECT ON mytable TO myusername GO It says the queries execute successfully, but there is never any difference in the first query. What simple thing am I missing to grant database level select permissions. As a note, I made double sure it was the correct user, correct database, and I have already tried granting table level select permissions. So far I keep getting the error: SELECT permission denied on object 'mytable', database 'mydatabase', schema 'dbo'. Any ideas what I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

    Can anyone recommend an efficient way of determining whether a BigDecimal is an integer value in the mathematical sense? At present I have the following code: private boolean isIntegerValue(BigDecimal bd) { boolean ret; try { bd.toBigIntegerExact(); ret = true; } catch (ArithmeticException ex) { ret = false; } return ret; } ... but would like to avoid the object creation overhead if necessary. Previously I was using bd.longValueExact() which would avoid creating an object if the BigDecimal was using its compact representation internally, but obviously would fail if the value was too big to fit into a long. Any help appreciated.

    So, I'd like to implement my own custom authorization system in MVC2. If I'd have to create a global class, where do I instantiate it? Can HttpContext be extended with my own additions and where do I do that? Should I use Authorization filters for rights validation or ActionFilters or do it within an action? Can ActionFilter pass any data to the action itself? Previously (in WebForms) I was using a Session object where I would put a serialized object containing essential user data (account id and a list of roles and rights) and I'd extend my own Page class.

    Hi there, I'm facing a situation where I have dependent objects and I would like to be able to remove an object and all references to it. Say I have an object structure like the code below, with a Branch type which references two Nodes. public class Node { // Has Some Data! } public class Branch { // Contains references to Nodes public Node NodeA public Node NodeB } public class Graph { public List<Node> Nodes; public List<Branch> Branches; } If I remove a Node from the Nodes list in the Graph class, it is still possible that one or more Branch objects still contains a reference to the removed Node, thus retaining it in memory, whereas really what I would quite like would be to set any references to the removed Node to null and let the garbage collection kick in. Other than enumerating through each Branch and checking each Node reference sequentially, are there any smart ideas on how I remove references to the Node in each Branch instance AND indeed any other class which reference the removed Node?     Take the following code snippet class Missile: instances = [] def __init__(self): Missile.instances.append(self) Now take the code: class Hero(): ... def fire(self): Missile() When the hero fires, a missile needs to be created and appended to the main list. Thus the hero object needs to reference the list when it fires. Here are a few solutions, although I'm sure there are others: Make the list a global, Use a class variable (as above), or Have the hero object hold a reference to the list. I didn't post this on gamedev because my question is actually more general: Is the previous code considered okay? Given a situation like this, is there a more Pythonic solution?

  • WCF web service: response is 200/ok, but response body is empty

    I am creating a WCF web api service. My problem is that some methods return a 200/OK response, but the headers and the body are empty. In setting up my web service, I created an ADO.NET Entity Data Model. I chose ADO.NET DbContext Generator when I added a code generation item. In the Model.tt document, I changed HashSet and ICollection to List. I built my website. It used to be that when I coded a method to return a List of an entity (like List<Customer> or List<Employee> in the Northwind database), it worked fine. Over time, I could not return a List of any of those, and could only grab one entity. Now, it's gotten to a point where I can return a List<string> or List<int>, but not a List or an instance of any entity. When I try to get a List<AnyEntity>, the response is 200/OK, but the response headers and body are empty. I have tried using the debugger and Firefox's Web Console. Using FF's WC, I could only get an "undefined" status code. I am not sure where to go from here. EDIT: In trying to grab all Areas from the database, I do this: [WebGet(UriTemplate = "areas")] public List<a1Areas> AllAreas() { return context.a1Areas.ToList(); } I would appreciate any more methods for debugging this.     I'm creating my own CompositeControl: a collection of MyLineWebControl and a "add" button. When the user press the "add" button, a new MyLineWebControl is added. In CreateChildControls(), I run through my model (some object MyGridOfLines which has a collection of MyLine) and add one MyLineWebControl for each MyLine. In addButton.Click, I add a new MyLine to my object MyGridOfLines. But, since the Click event method is called after CreateChildControls(), the new MyLineWebControl will be only displayed on the next postback. What can I do to "redraw" immediately my control, without loosing values that I've entered in each input?

    I have added a UICollectionView into a normal ViewController (MainViewController), and than created a UICollectionViewController Subclass (CollectionViewController) in the ViewController and connected the UICollectionView outlet with the CollectionViewController object _collectionViewController = [[CollectionViewController alloc] initWithCollectionViewLayout:_collectionView.collectionViewLayout]; _collectionView.dataSource = _collectionViewController; _collectionView.delegate = _collectionViewController; In the CollectionViewController I have setup an simple NSArray object and I show this one. This works as expected. But If I try to access the collectionview from the CollectionViewController via self.collectionview I am not able to access this one. I dont know what I have to do, to also connect the collectionview. I have build a sample ios-app it is available at: https://github.com/patricks/uicollectionview-problem The method - (void)outputSelectedCell in the UICollectionViewController always shows, that there is nothing selected… I hope you understand the problem.

The way I see it, the retrieved object should have a name that is 100 characters long, given that the attempted update failed. The last assertion fails because the name is 110 characters long now, as if the ea instance was indeed updated. What am I doing wrong here?

    When mapping an object using SQLAlchemy, is there a way to only map certain elements of a class to a database, or does it have to be a 1:1 mapping? Example: class User(object): def __init__(self, name, username, password, year_of_birth): self.name = name self.username = username self.password = password self.year_of_birth = year_of_birth Say, for whatever reason, I only wish to map the name, username and password to the database and leave out the year_of_birth. Is that possible and will this create problems? Edit - 25/03/2010 Additionally, say I want to map username and year_of_birth to a separate database. Will this database and the one above still be connected (via username)?
