• Mouse Error Code 24. Windows 7

  I've had the same mouse for a while, and it's been working fine until one day, it started giving me a message about a device not working properly. I tried updating the drivers, and re-installing, I even deleted old drivers in case my computer should be a little confused. It never made a difference, and my mouse seemed to be working just fine despite getting the permanent error in my device manager, I looked it up several times online, but I never found anything I could actually use, when I go to official websites, I always get the same response "plug in so so into a different place - drivers - install silverlight before you can watch this tutorial, try it on a different machine". so I gave up on that. But now is where I have a real problem, lately, my little strange error evolved into a fullblown Error 24, and my mouse is starting to turn on and off randomely, especially when it is being used, but I do hear it go "badum..dadum" when I'm off doing something else. when I looked up error code 24, I really didn't find much other than it meaning: Code 24 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) Cause The device is installed incorrectly. The problem could be a hardware failure, or a new driver might be needed. Devices stay in this state if they have been prepared for removal. After you remove the device, this error disappears. But, I have tried uninstalling the device entirely several times, and it'll go right back to its previous state with error 24, and turning on and off randomely. what do I do? I cannot afford taking it to a repair place, I can't really afford a new mouse either, I refuse to buy cheap ones as I am a gamer, in need of more than 3 buttons, and a good grip is important. Could there possibly be some confusion in the registry? I do remember having gotten some early problems after I converted my vista to windows7. But I hardly dare going in there unless I'm 100% certain of what I'm going for, and I can honestly say I am at a loss here. Edit: it is a USB mouse we're talking about here. • Computer randomly reboots during "intensive activity".

  My friend has been playing games on his new build for some time now. However, lately, his computer will randomly reboot out of nowhere, so far only happening in game, and presumably only to happen in game as it happens nowhere else. This can happen in game during play or even in the options. Note, it isn't a crash or blue screen. It's just a normal reboot. This started today, I believe, and has only occured in two games: Dead Space and Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. He has played a handful of games before these, for about a week or so, without this problem. We theorized on two possibilities: Maybe something is overheating? Maybe the power supply is inadequate? These two were quickly dismissed, as all his components were operating at normal temperatures when he got back to his desktop from the reboot, and we all know these parts don't exactly cool down quickly, especially if they get hot enough to trigger a reboot. Besides, I know at-least my motherboard reports processor overheating at start-up, and requests I press f1 to continue into boot. The PSU one was dismissed too. He has an 850w power supply on a rig that was estimated to take only 720 some watts, that's with some overcompensating to be safe. He opened up his case to make sure nothing was seated wrong or in the way. All was fine, but he did notice a sticker on his video card. It had a giant barcode on it and some numbers. Now, I'm used to seeing these stickers, they're the warranty stickers, right, and removal voids the warranty? Yeah, well, we find it odd because this sticker is slapped right over the circuits of the video card, not on a block or anything. Is this normal? Should he remove it? Right now, I am concerned with the memory. Could that be at fault? • NetBackup with VSS and Instant Recovery - Failing to delete old snapshots

  We are attempting to implement Microsoft VSS for snap-shotting in our NetBackup 6.5.3.1 environment. The clients are both 32 & 64 bit Windows 2003 Server. Snapshot parameters are: Instant recovery is enabled Maximum snapshots = 1 Provider type = 1 (System) Snapshot attribute = 1 (Differential) All backups successfully complete, and VSS shadows are successfully created both for the snapshot backup and for the open files (shadow copy components). The Issue: NetBackup is not clearing or overwriting old snapshots with each successive backup. When we list shadows, and shadow storage, it is increasing and increasing. IT is not honouring the Maximum Snapshot setting. The Logs: The bpfis log doesn’t really appear to show any errors other than for methods which we are not employing (VxVM, Flashsnap, etc.). • Mac Share Points automatically authenticate with matching Windows AD credentials from Windows

  I recently started administering an OS X server (10.8) that is on the same network as our AD domain. While setting up Mac Share Points, I encountered some odd behavior that I hope someone can explain. For the purposes of this example assume the following: 1) Local User on OS X Server: frank, password: Help.2012 2) AD Domain User: frank, password: Help.2012 3) AD Domain: mycompany 4) OS X Server hostname: macserver (not bound to AD, not running OD) When joined to the domain on a a Win 7 computer and logged in as frank and accessing the shares at \\macserver, it automatically authenticates using frank's OS X credentials (because they are the same). However, if I change frank's OS X password, the standard Windows authentication dialog pops-up preset to use frank's AD domain (my company\frank). However, after entering the new OS X password, it will not authenticate without changing the domain to local (.\frank). Basically, if a user in AD has the same User name and password in OS X, it will authenticate automatically regardless of the domain. If the passwords differ, authenticating to the OS X shares must be done from the local machine. (and slightly off topic - how come an OS X administrator can access the root drives on the Mac server from Windows when accessing the Mac shares even when they aren't shared? In other words, it will show all the shared folders from "File Sharing" plus whatever drives are mounted in OS X)

• Huawei E3276 LTE uplink slow in the routing Ubuntu, but not with other devices in the LAN

  I have a Huawei E3276 LTE dongle (12d1:14fe - 12d1:1506) and a problem with the upstream speed. The problem is not only present with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64 bit workstation, kernel 3.16), but also with Raspbian Jessie for Raspberry PI (kernel 3.14). Upstream seems to be always limited to 5 Mbit/s whenever I check the speed from the Linux computer that I use as a LTE router. The other computers in the LAN always get about 10-15 Mbit/s upstream, even though the traffic is routed through the same Linux computer suffering from seemingly capped uplink. Downstream speed is always fine, 25 Mbit/s. I even installed Windows 7 in the same computer as Ubuntu and the speeds are 25 Mbit/s down, 15 Mbit/s up. So the problem is not with E3276 device itself or in the mobile subscription, but in the Huawei E3276 Linux compatibility. Maybe something in the kernel? I have made sure that the matter is not with iptables rules: the speed does not noticeably increase when iptables is disabled. Turning off IPv4 forwarding does not improve speed either. I'm not sure what settings and logs do help in debugging the situation. Please ask for more details, if you have a clue what might be wrong. Thanks, Mytomi

  I am a relatively new Ubuntu user and I am having some difficulty mounting my external 2TB HDD. When I first installed Linux my external HDD was working just fine, however, it has stopped working and I have a lot of important files on there that I need. Before my HDD would automatically mount and no worries. Now, however, it doesn't automatically mount and when I try to manually mount it I keep running into filesystem type errors that I can't seem to get past. • Random process hangs after clean install

  After installing fresh Kubuntu 11.04 Natty on my desktop PC, I experienced some issues with application and process hangs. There is also a problem with my USB 3 hard disk. These sort of problems did not happen on Kubuntu 10.10 installed on the same PC (on separate partition). The problem started after installing Windows updates the website suddenly stopped and giving me an error "Cannot connect to the configuration database" If I tried to open SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard it is gives me a strange error says: "An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfigurationTaskException was thrown. Additional exception information: SharePoint Products and Technologies cannot be configured. I tried as he suggested to make the identity of the app pool of the SharePoint web site as "IWAM_server_name " after that the error changed as he said and I web site give me "Server Application Unavailable " and when checked the Event Viewer at the server I found that ASP.NET 2.0 give this exception: "Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied ." and I don't know how to solve this problem. I'm really want to make my web site working because our team really need these documents and its stuff.   I am interested in how each individual smart phone is allowed to handle data transfers within a third-party app. I am interested in designing apps that allow customers to update, transfer, download, etc. data from their smart phone to their personal computer and vice-versa. (Ranging from just text, to XML, to a Relational Database) I only have experience with the Ipod Touch before and one particular app that maintained all the data on an online server, so to update the data on your pc or iphone you had to go online, are there other ways to do it? Like bluetooth, wireless LAN, USB, etc? I believe Apple has certain policies on this in order to control the App Store and individual Iphones. I suppose each company has a particular policy on how an app is allowed to transfer data to another system, does anyone have a good understanding of this? Thank you.

  I've got a home server. Simple, low-power-consumption Intel Atom based PC built by me. It runs XP since Win7 was an overkill for this poor thing. Everything was OK, always used Avast! antivirus + Spybot. However, it stopped shutting down after a while. Few days ago I noticed a "CB Monitor Windows" proccess is blocking this (didn't quit from rdp after sending the shutdown command). What is this proccess? How can I disable/remove it? Tried Malwarebytes, found ONE malware, removed it, did a reboot, no change. Avast is up-to-date, Spybot is the same. What could I do?

• Windows 2003 VM, not connecting to VM Network

  I am running VMware's vSphere infrastructure. I have a windows 2003 VM that is suddenly not connected to the network. I can log into vSphere and see that the VM is running, but it does not connect to the VM network. The firewall on this VM is not running. The network adapter in the VM is configured correctly. The only evidence I see indicating an issue is in the event viewer. I have the following entry. Source: VMUpgradeHelper EventID: 270 Description: Not restoring network configuration for adapter with MAC address 00:50:56:xx:xx:xx. The device ID for this adapter is unchanged. THis VM is a webserver, and it was working beautifully just two days ago. "nothing" has happened... so I am at a loss as to what may have happened. Ideas??

• Untrusted file not showing unblock button windows 7

  I downloaded a dll but cannot use it as it is considered untrusted. I opened it using: Notepad.exe filepath\filename:zone.identifier and it informed me that that the file was in zone 3. Despite this I do not get an unblock button in the properties page for the file. Not being able to unblock it with this button I instead changed the value in notepad and saved my changes. When I reopen the zone.identifier info it is as I left it. I have set it to both 2 (trusted) and 0 (no information), but still am unable to use the files. Any one have any ideas? If I cannot unblock the files I will investigate turning this blocking off, but as a first step I'd like to try and just unblock this one file. Note: using Windows 7 Ultimate edition. It is when using MSTest from within Visual Studio 2008 that I hit problems.

• Windows Server 2003 can't see Vista machine

  Hi there, I've got a real PITA problem that I'm sure has a really simple solution. I have a Windows Server 2003 machine that needs to be able to see the network name of a Vista box - but refuses to. It can see the Vista box (and even access its shared folder) if I enter the Vista box's IP address. Problem is: SQL Server refuses to do Replication with anything other than the "actual server name". That means that the 2003 machine needs to be able to connect through the Vista machines network name... not just its IP address. I'm guessing it's a simple incompatibility between OS's, but I'm sure there's got to be a simple way of fixing it. Note: Yes, the Vista machine can connect to 2003 machine, no problem. And other machines in the office can connect to both the Vista machine and 2003 (they have more recent OS's). Thanks for any help!

• Problems with self-signed SSL certificate for SSTP in Windows Server Foundation 2008

  I am trying to configure SSTP in Windows Server Foundation 2008. I want to use a self-signed SSL certificate to do authentication. When the server is running, I get the following error when trying to connect: 0x800B0109: A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate that is not trusted by the trust provider. I created the self-signed certificate in the IIS "Server Certificates" panel. From that panel, I exported the certificate, with the private key, to a .pfx file. I installed this certificate on the client computer which I tried to connect from. The certificate bound to the SSL listener in the RRAS-Security panel is present in the Trusted Root Certificate Authority stores on both machines. I've been getting super annoyed setting up certificates. Any advice here?

  Hey all, i am new at setting up a Windows Server so keep that in mind :o) I have following some tutorials online but all seem to have different settings/icons than i do. All i need to setup is a user and password so that i can ftp into the server from my home computer and upload files into the wwwroot directory. • Windows Vista language text service problem

  Hi, All I'm using English version of Vista and having problems with using programs that display Russian characters somewhere. For example dictionaries doesn't work for me, since they display Russian character. Also I see just "magic" characters in text editor (notepad) when open a Russian text file. I tried to change whole Vista Interface language to Russian, but it still didn't solve the problem. I CAN read any web page from browser, that's not a problem. Also adding "Russian" in "Text Services and Input Languages" doesn't solve this problem. Does anyone know how to solve this? Thanks. My System: 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium - SP2

• How can I uninstall SQL Server Express in Windows Server 2008

  I installed Windows Server 2008 as the OS, but I dislike the SQL Server Express which it provide by default at all. So I changed to SQL Sever 2008 Enterprise. Here comes the problem, I don't know how to remove the SQL Server Express edition. In the Programs and Features under Control Panel, I can't find the installation of SQL Server Express which is provided by OS in default. What I can see is only the SQL Sever 2008 Enterprise edi. Any suggestion?

  This question has previously been asked, but that was a year ago and I wanted to know if there had been any developments since then. Basically we'd like to use a MemCached Server on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine... which is only x64, obviously. I haven't found any details on a Win64 version of MemCached, but there is still the solution from the previous thread (which I haven't tried yet) to use a bit of software called MemCacheD Manager running MemCached 1.2.6. However, the current version of MCd is 1.4.4 and I was wondering if there had been any improvements since then.

  Hello, I have web service on IIS 7 on Windows 2008. This web service must dlls of .NET Framework 3.5 (I have error about System.Linq using when I try to browse the web site) The only place I found where it is possible to change .NET Framework version is application pools management, but The only two options I have are: no management code and .NET Framework 2. In add/remove programs I have .NET Framework 3.5 installed and event does to it repair and iisreset, but I still have only to options in application pools management. Any ideas? Thank you for ahead.

• Can we configure windows 2008 DHCP server to not ignore the broadcast falg of DHCP requests?

  We have a Cisco WAP4410N access point that does not relay broadcast packets from the wired network to the wireless clients when the network is secured by WPA2. This cause problem with Windows server's DHCP server that respond to DHCP request by broadcasting it's OFFER instead of Unicasting it like it's asked by Windows (and Android and iOS) clients. When we had a Windows 2003 server we configured the server not to ignore the broadcast flag (following these instructions) and it solved the problem. Now we upgraded our servers to Windows 2008 servers and the problem is back. Unfortunately, it seems Windows server 2008 ignore the IgnoreBroadcastFlag parameter. Is there any other way to make sure that Windows Server 2008 respond to DHCP requests using Unicast instead of broadcast? mp

• Firefox 4, 5 hang on Windows XP

  I've been having a lot of trouble with Firefox 4 and 5 hanging on my Windows XP machine. I've often found a temporary solution of uninstalling and reinstalling. Recently I deleted my Firefox profile to get a clean start. But nothing seems a reliable solution. The only plugin that I have is Firebug. My machine is a bit low on RAM, with only 2 GB. Am I missing something? Any troubleshooting steps that you would recommend? I've come to expect Firefox to be very stable, and that has not at all been my experience lately.
