• How do I (or should I?) access the service layer from a SiteMesh template (views/layouts/main.gsp) in Grails?

  I need to create a toplist in the page footer on a site that I'm building. The footer is created in the default SiteMesh layout template (views/layouts/main.gsp). In order to create the toplist access to the database is needed, so I've encapsulated all logic needed for the toplist creation in a service class (services/FooService). Please note that while services are usually accessed from the controller layer, in this case the default layout template (views/layouts/main.gsp) is not generated from a controller. Can the layout view (views/layouts/main.gsp) access a service class? How? Is this the correct design decision? If not, what is a better encapsulation and how do I interact with said encapsulation from the layout view (views/layouts/main.gsp)?

• script to dynamically fix ophaned users after db restore

  After performing a database restore, I want to run a dynamic script to fix ophaned users. My script below loops through all users that are displayed after executing sp_change_users_login 'report' and apply "alter user [username] with login = [username]" to fix SID conflicts verses static go statements. Although, I'm getting an "incorrect syntax error on line 15." can't figure out why... • mysql multiple where and inner join query combination

  I'm a little lost as how to run two mysql queries as one(return one result set to be sorted etc). I understand how to do multiple JOINS but need to combine the below which is more than just a multiple join - it would include a multiple where etc. 1st query sql = "SELECT s.id, s.song_name FROM `songs` as s INNER JOIN `artists` as a ON s.artist_id = a.id WHERE ((`a`.id = #{search}))" 2nd query sql = "SELECT s.id, s.song_name FROM `songs` as s INNER JOIN `similarments` as si ON s.artist_id = si.artist_id WHERE ((`si`.similar_id = #{search}))" And then run both queries at once so I can ORDER them etc. Or combine them as one big query (maybe put an OR somewhere)? Else you'll be scaling or rotating your translations. Do scale and rotate need to go in a specific order? • Generating a random displacement on the unit sphere

  Given a unit vector n, I need to generate, as fast as possible, another random unit vector m. The deviation of m from n should be on the order of a positive parameter sigma, and the distribution of m on the unit sphere should be symmetrical around n. I have no specific requirements on the representation of unit vectors, so you can use spherical angles, Cartesian coordinates, or whatever turns out to be convenient. Also, there are no precise requirements on the probability distributions used, as long as it decays when m deviates more than sigma from n. I am working with gsl and C. I have come up with a somewhat convoluted method using Cartesian coordinates. I will post it later if it is useful, but I would like to see people's ideas.

  Hi to all, i am trying to setup a multidimensional array but my problem is that i can not get the right order from incoming data. Explain $x[1][11]=11; $x[1]=1; var_dump($x); In the above code i get only x[1]. To right would be $x[1]=1; $x[1][11]=11; var_dump($x); But in my case i can dot ensure that x[1] will come first, and x[1][11] will come after. Is there any way that i can use the first example and get right the array. Keep in mind that the array depth is large. Thats

  Hi, I am trying to write two kind of Rack routes. Rack allow us to write such routes like so: app = Rack::URLMap.new('/test' => SimpleAdapter.new, '/files' => Rack::File.new('.')) In my case, I would like to handle those routes: "/" or "index" "/*" in order to match any other routes So I had trying this: app = Rack::URLMap.new('/index' => SimpleAdapter.new, '/' => Rack::File.new('./public')) This works well, but... I don't know how to add '/' path (as alternative of '/index' path). The path '/*' is not interpreted as a wildcard, according to my tests. Do you know how I could do? Thanks

  Hi I have several domains, only one website and one databse table for each domain. example: wbesite.us - data from USA goes to database table main_usa wbesite.co.uk - data form UK goes to database table main_uk Only have one database with name of the website. Having only one website structured, and having variables like $sql="select * from main_".$countrycode." where bla..bla..., and many other variables to catch the domain extension, and so on... Now, instead of having one full website for each domain, how can set a script and wher do I put it in order to detect the domain that the user uses. In my server root do I create something like website.$domain ? Something like website OLX but for different purposes. I hope I made myself clear. Thank you.

• Can the Sequence of RecordSets in a Multiple RecordSet ADO.Net resultset be determined, controlled?

  I am using code similar to this Support / KB article to return multiple recordsets to my C# program. But I don't want C# code to be dependant on the physical sequence of the recordsets returned, in order to do it's job. So my question is, "Is there a way to determine which set of records from a multiplerecordset resultset am I currently processing?" I know I could probably decipher this indirectly by looking for a unique column name or something per resultset, but I think/hope there is a better way. P.S. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Pro & SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.

• In what circumstances can large pages produce a speedup ?

  Modern x86 CPUs have the ability to support larger page sizes than the legacy 4K (ie 2MB or 4MB), and there are OS facilities (Linux, Windows) to access this functionality. The Microsoft link above states large pages "increase the efficiency of the translation buffer, which can increase performance for frequently accessed memory". Which isn't very helpful in predicting whether large pages will improve any given situation. I'm interested in concrete, preferably quantified, examples of where moving some program logic (or a whole application) to use huge pages has resulted in some performance improvement. Anyone got any success stories ? There's one particular case I know of myself: using huge pages can dramatically reduce the time needed to fork a large process (presumably as the number of TLB records needing copying is reduced by a factor on the order of 1000). I'm interested in whether huge pages can also benefit more mundane applications though.

  I'm trying to get the def wfsc_pod1 and wfsc_ip into the same def. I'm not quite sure how to approach the problem. I want wfsc_pod1 to display all the information for name, subnet and gateway. Then wfsc_ip shows the ip addresses below it. I also get a None value when I run it as it. Not sure why. • Best way to implement nested loops in a view in asp.net mvc 2

  Hi, Trying to implement some nested loops that are spitting out good old nested html table data. So the question is; What is the best way to loop through lists and nested lists in order to produce easily maintainable code. It can get quite narly quite fast when working with multiple nested tables or lists. Should I make use of a HTML helper, or make something with the ViewModel to simplify this? A requirement is if there are no children at a node there should be an empty row on that spot with some links for creation and into other parts of the system.

• What is the best way to read files in an EventMachine-based app?

  In order not to block the reactor I would like to read files asynchronously, but I've found no obvious way of doing it using EventMachine. I've tried a few different approaches, but none of them feels right: Just read the file, it'll block the reactor, but what the hell, it's not that slow (unless it's a big file, and then it definitely is). Open the file for reading and read a chunk on each tick (but how much to read? too much and it'll block the reactor, too little and reading will get slower than necessary). EM.popen('cat some/file', FileReader) feels really weird, but works better than the alternatives above. In combination with the LineAndTextProtocol it reads lines pretty swiftly. EM.attach, but I haven't found any examples of how to use it, and the only thing I've found on the mailing list is that it's deprecated in favour of… EM.watch, which I've found no examples of how to use for reading files. How do you read files within a EventMachine reactor loop?

• Working with multiple jQuery libraries and Prototype.

  Ok, i saw some other posts about this sort of thing, but not exactly related. This is not what I want to do, but need to do unfortunately. We have in this order right now Prototype 1.6 jQuery 1.2.6 with noConflict on jQuery with j I need to add jQuery 1.4.2 in that mix as well. It will always be the last one loaded. No option.   How could I adapt this query to show the previous 61 weeks? (still exlcluding the current week). My query currently shows me the total weekly sales for 2010 grouped by ISO Week and ISO Year (exlcuding the current week). select to_char(order_date,'IYYY') as iso_year, to_char(order_date,'IW') as iso_week, sum(sale_amount) from orders where to_char(order_date,'IW') <> to_char(SYSDATE) and to_char(order_date,'IYYY') = 2010 group by to_char(order_date,'IYYY') to_char(order_date,'IW') I realize I could probably just omit the "2010" requirement, order by desc and limit results to a certain bnumber of rows. But that just doesn't seem right! Much appreciate any help pointing me in the right direction!

• How we run a .NET 32-bit application in a 64-bit Windows server?

  We are installing a third party application in one of our 64-bit Windows servers. This application apparently was build with the compiler option set to choose the platform at run time. When we run the application it gives us an error: System.BadImageFormatException: is not a valid Win32 application. I have seen in MSDN forums that in order to fix this error I have to build the application set to 32-bit, and that way it will run fine on a 64-bit server. I check on other StackOverflow links Other Posts. How to get around this situation? For everyone that wants to know more information: The application is running fine in a 32-bit test server. IIS version 6 using SQL Server Express 2005 On the Web Service Extension there are both Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll and Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll

• Code Golf: Duplicate Character Removal in String

  The challenge: The shortest code, by character count, that detects and removes duplicate characters in a String. Removal includes ALL instances of the duplicated character (so if you find 3 n's, all three have to go), and original character order needs to be preserved. Example Input 1: nbHHkRvrXbvkn Example Output 1: RrX Example Input 2: nbHHkRbvnrXbvkn Example Output 2: RrX (the second example removes letters that occur three times; some solutions have failed to account for this) (This is based on my other question where I needed the fastest way to do this in C#, but I think it makes good Code Golf across languages.)

• Developing and deploying games for Windows, Mac (& Linux)

  I want to write games that run on all the major platforms. I also want people to be able to play them by downloading a file and double clicking it. That means a single .exe/.app file. I'm happy to use OpenGL directly for graphics. What I don't know how to do is show a window, handle mouse/keyboard input and play sounds in a cross-platform manner. I don't really mind what the underlying language is, as long as it isn't C++ or Java. C#, Ruby or Python would be preferable, in that order :) Please, SO, save me from having to write Flash games!

  I'm using Spring's form tag library in a Spring MVC application that I am developing. The company I am working for has implemented some company-wide policies based on the definition of custom attributes for certain tags. For instance, by default (though the inclusion of a standard javascript file) all tags have their values automatically converted to upper case. In order to disable this one would define their tag with a custom attribute in the following way: <input type="text" uppercase="false" /> The problem is that the addition of these custom attributes to a spring:form tag causes an error at runtime. I've pasted the error below. org.apache.jasper.JasperException: /WEB-INF/jsp/reportCriteria.jsp(45,5) Attribute uppercase invalid for tag input according to TLD My question is: is there any way to extend the TLD to allow for these attributes, or is there any other way add these custom attributes to these spring:form tags?

  Is it possible to use regex to turn this <site-ui:header title="error" backURL="javascript:history.go(-1);" /> into this <site-ui:header backURL="javascript:history.go(-1);" title="error" /> Basically, my goal is to format this xml so that the fields are in alphabetical order (e.g. backURL comes before title), and each field should be tabbed two spaces.   I'm pretty new to using regexes and I can figure out how I would go about extracted a specific number from a string. Suppose the string was any amount of whitespace or random text and somewhere within it is this, "Value: $1000.00." In order to retrieve that value I am currently using this: string value = Convert.ToString(Regex.Match(BodyContent, @"Value:[ \t]*\$?\d*(\.[0-9]{2})?", RegexOptions.Singleline)); So the variable 'value' now has, "Value: $1000.00" stored in it. My question is, using Regex is there a way to use 'Value:' to find the number value but only store the actual number value (i.e. 1000.00) in the 'value' variable?

  Hi, I'm taking shots in the dark here. I'd like to create a web service where eventually I send an SMS by using my own hardware. I'm not sure what I need in order to send an SMS myself. I don't want to use any of the existing SMS send services out there, I need to be able to send these SMS myself. It looks like there's one opensource project in particular that deals with this, "Kannel": http://www.kannel.org/ what I don't understand is, do I need to get a GSM modem to be able to send SMS? Do SMS gateways (like Kannel) eventually need to get to a GSM modem to send messages, or is there some other hardware you need to be able to actually send the messages? Thanks

• Is a switch statment ok for 30 or so conditions?

  I am in the final stages of creating an MP4 tag parser in .Net. For those who have experience with tagging music you would be aware that there are an average of 30 or so tags. If tested out different types of loops and it seems that a switch statement with Const values seems to be the way to go with regard to catching the tags in binary. The switch allows me to search the binary without the need to know which order the tags are stored or if there are some not present but I wonder if anyone would be against using a switch statement for so many conditionals. Any insight is much appreciated.
