• Flash plugin locks up Firefox, Chrome and Safari behind a corporate proxy, IE6 works fine

  At work I am forced by corporate policy to use IE6. Obviously this is not so good so I use FF for most of my browsing. However there is a problem once I have installed the Flash plug-in - FF locks up when trying to load Flash media. Looking at the status bar at the time of the lock up it appears this happens when the browser tries to get cross domain data. The Flash Active X plug-in in IE does not suffer this issue. I have tried it in a brand new profile in FF with Flash as the only plug in and it locks up. We have 2 different proxy servers and both exhibit the same problem. I have also tried Chrome and Safari and both lock up with the plug-in installed. So, has anyone else had this problem and solved it? Or, is there any way to disable cross domain data access in the flash plug-in? Or, is there any way to disable the "This site needs an additional plug-in" ribbon which appears when the plug-in is not installed. Many thanks!

• Network profile reverts to 'Unidentified' following Windows Update reboot

  I have searched high and low for a solution to this problem. I have multiple servers running Windows 2000 Server as well as Windows Server 2003, 2003 R2, and 2008 R2. All of these servers are on the same Active Directory domain. The servers run showing the network profile as Domain Network, which is fine and correct. However, when a Windows update is installed, the server changes the profile to Unidentified Network once it has rebooted. This then doesn't allow any traffic to the server. For security reasons, we can't turn the firewalls off for. The only way to fix the problem is to physically be in front of the machine and work on it to change the profile back. Once the Profile has been reinstated to the Domain profile, it will be fine until the next month's update. This happens on all the Windows software mentioned above. The machines are not all identical, so it's not a hardware problem either. If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

  I have two instances of mssql 2005 and am using CA XOSoft replication. The master is a failover cluster and the replica is a standalone server. They are all running Server 2003 sp2 x64. Same patch levels on all servers. This setup has worked great for several months until we recently restricted the RPC ports on both nodes of the master(5000 - 6000 using rpccfg.exe). We have to implement egress filtering, thus the limiting of the ports. We began receiving login errors for sql windows authentication and NETLOGON Event ID: 5719: This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain due to the following: Not enough storage is available to process this command. This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator. We also see group policies failing to update and cluster file shares go offline at the same time. The RPC ports were set back to default when we started seeing these problems and the servers rebooted, but the problems persist. The domain controllers are not showing any errors. Running dcdiag and netdiag shows everything is fine. We have noticed that the XOSoft service ws_rep.exe is using a lot of handles(8 - 9k), about the same number that sqlserver is using. As soon as xosoft replication is stopped the login errors cease and everything functions correctly. I have opened a ticket with CA for XOSoft, but I'm not sure that the problem is actually xosoft, but that it is the one bringing the problem to light. I'm looking for tips on debugging RPC problems. Specifically on limiting the ports and then reverting the changes.

• Computer randomly freezes when playing games

  My computer just randomly freezes when playing certain games. It has happened to me in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Call of Duty 4, and Blacklight: Retribution. It has not happened to me with other games like Tribes: Ascend yet, which leads me to believe it is a software-side issue related to maybe DirectX or PhysX? Also, temperatures seem stable. I used RivaTuner combined with MSI Afterburner, and at the time of freezing with BF:BC2, it gives: 62C, 67% GPU usage and 78.8FPS. During the session the max I have seen was 65C and 97% GPU usage. On Blacklight: Retribution, I've heard other people complain about the problem too. This is why it is such a mystery to me, is this actually a driver problem, or more a game problem? I've been able to play these games for long until I re-installed Windows 7 (because it was growing too full and slow). Before I had a 32bit Ultimate version, and now 64bit.   I compiled the Qt Framework with debugging enabled, but the script stripped the debugging symbols from the libraries and saved them as *.debug files -- just like here. Sadly I need these symbols inside the .so files, so I can continue working with them. There seems no way to teach my debugger to load external (non-PDB) symbols. So another way of solving my problem might be converting the .debug files to PDB format, which might also be a problem. Thank you very much!

Previously, all ads management (tracking click and impression that each ads has served) and content were served in a single server with the following spec: Server 1 OS: Windows 2008 R2 64-Bit CPU: Intel® Core™ i5 - 4 cores RAM: 8 GB Storage: 2 x 1 TB hard drives Bandwidth: 10 TB per month To improve our website speed, I decided to separate the ads management script to another dedicated server because we have more than 15 advertisers to 30 advertisers per each page. Server 2 OS: Windows 2008 R2 64-Bit CPU: Intel® Core™ i5 - 4 cores RAM: 4 GB Storage: 2 x 300 GB hard drives Bandwidth: 10 TB per month The Problem The problem is that Server 1 can handle both content and ads system. Now, that I take away the ads system and put it at Server 2. Server 2 can barely serve only ads system. Test First of all, I moved 75% of the ads to Server 2. And then, perform a ping to server: ping -t xxxxx. • Max. Bandwidth Cannot be Reached

  I have a question regarding the bandwidth usage. I don't think it's a very technical question but I really want to know the reason behind the problem. I'm having my education in one of my university's campuses. There is a 200mbps bandwidth availability for approx. 2100 students. Our main campus has 25,000 students and 2gbps bandwidth and there is no problem with the internet connection speed in main campus. However, in my campus, we are having difficulties with the internet connection speed. I went to IT department of my university and they've showed me some graphics about the bandwidth usage. The usage of the bandwidth has never reached 200mbps and it generally is around 130-140mbps. According to this information, maximum bandwidth is never made by the users but the browsing speed is not very convincing. What can be the problem? Maybe this is a silly question but I really want to know the reason. They told me that they've reached 180mbps before.

• Arch linux - strange behaviour after installing fglrx

  I have a problem with drivers on arch linux. I installed catalyst through unnoficial catalyst repo as wiki says. pacman -S catalyst catalyst-utils aticonfig --initial After this operation i rebooted the system. KDM loaded succesfully, but when i tried to switch to console (ctrl+alt+1/2/3) i saw only some strange dots, like pixels from the text were splitted on the whole screen. I was able to go back to kdm and enter the account details tho. This gave me a hang just before kde loaded. Here's a video where i'm showing above actions. Anybody knows what caused the problem? Open drivers suck the battery 2x faster. ___________EDIT_____________ Ok, i found a sollution, so i'm posting if someone else shares my problem. Catalyst does not support KMS, so you need to disable it from grub. You must know where are your /etc and /boot paritions mounted. If you have only one partition for / it's even simplier. Mount / on /mnt mount /dev/sdaX /mnt where X is number of the partition where is your / installed arch-chroot /mnt nano /etc/default/grub and add line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset" save and quit then run (this will delete your windows grub configuration) grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg exit umount /mnt reboot

  After an Active Directory fail RDP connection started to ask for credentials twice (once on local RDP program, second time on remote's logon screen) I already looked at Windows 2008 R2 RDS - Double Login Solution provided there doesn't work for me. The server is alone, without AD/DNS services, RDP service isn't installed I tried every security settings on RDP-Tcp (RDP, Negotiate, SLL) Logon option is set to "Use credentials from the client" Both windows client and server use RDP 7.1 fPromptForPassword regitries are set to 0 Local Computer Policy\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Security\Always prompt for password upon connection is set to "Disabled" Why i am sure the problem comes from the server and not the client ? This problem affected a 3rd RDP program on Android too (it was directly showing "preparing desktop previously, on both MS RDP and the 3rd program) No bakcup are available (Else the Active Directory wouldn't be a fail, but just a lose of time) I am wondering if a rule linked to RDP got changed after the AD install+unistall, but i'm unable to find where. While this is not a critic problem, this is very annoying. I don't know if more information are needed, if it's the case and if you are patient enough, please tell me what is missing and i'll edit this post to add the missing informations.

• HTPC/DVR computer won't go into standby

  When I select Start-Turn off computer-Standby the 'turn off computer' option window closes, and then nothing else happens. I can start new applications, and Windows acts like I never selected standby. I ran it for several hours after that. If I have a TV program scheduled to record when I select standby I get a window (the Pinnacle TV software) asking if I'm sure, there are programs scheduled to record - and the computer just keeps running after I select yes, never going into standby. I added that detail as it shows the standby process is starting. [This problem also happens if a TV program is not scheduled, so the scheduler task in not running/in memory. This problem happens regardless of whether I'm not watching TV. This problem happens regardless of whether Media Center is running (it usually isn't, I'm using Pinnacle to watch TV).] I looked at "How to troubleshoot hibernation and standby issues in Windows XP" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907477 - ACPI is enabled, and "standby" is an option in "Power Options Properties." So it appears to be setup correctly. Windows XP SP3 Media Center Edition, all current updates installed.

• Intermittent PHP error: Undefined function <core function>

  In the last week I've been coming across an incredibly annoying error on one of Slicehost slices. It appears that every now and then PHP will fail with a fatal error, saying a certain function is undefined. The function changes, but is always a core PHP function e.g. defined(), version_compare(), etc. This problem has occurred while using several different PHP applications - PHPMyAdmin, my own custom built apps, etc, leading me to believe that the problem is not specific to the running code. Here are some details: - Debian Lenny - Apache 2.2.9 - PHP 5.2.6-1+lenny4 with Suhosin-Patch (running eAccelerator 0.9.6) Apache and PHP are installed from Debian packages. Error logs show nothing out of the ordinary. I thought memory might be an issue, but free -m reports upwards of 100MB free almost all the time. Another thing I'm trying to investigate is if the problem might be related to eAccelerator, but testing this theory out is incredibly hard because the issue doesn't appear very often and I've been using eAccelerator for months on this install without any problems up until now. Has anyone ever come across anything like this? Why would PHP report undefined core functions?

• laptop headphone jack problems

  A while back my headphones mysteriously started making static noise and one of them stopped working completely. At first I thought it was headphones so I bought new ones. Alas that did not solve the problem. The problem must be inside my headphone jack. I did some research online and they suggested unplugging USB devices. Which has a strange effect of changing the static noises to high frequency Morse code noises (it's the aliens). I don't have this problem when i listen to music on speakers. The static is there on headphones whether there is music or not. I own a soldering iron for electronics and I am quite skilled at soldering. I would appreciate any help I can get. My laptop is the HDX 18. It has 2 headphone jacks that act exactly the same. Interesting thing i just noticed is that when i pull out my headphones almost all the way both of them start working but so do the speakers making the headphones kinda useless. Maybe there is a way to turn of the speakers as a temporary solution. I am using vista x64.

• I can't download or stream for more then 3 sec, and then the conection activity just dies

  Just got a new internet connection installed at my sisters place, but it randomly just stops working. At first it was only affecting flash videos. they would randomly just stop buffering. I did a lot of research on this and found that there can be many things that cause this exact trouble. I then tried IE and some flash would stream fine, but still random deaths. So I told my brother in law to reset the router and modem and that fixed the problem for them but not my laptop. I then started trying to fix the flash problem only to fined that downloads of any kind were affected. Now it is so bad that 50% of page loads will never finish because the connection drops to 0% usage with in a split sec. I can't get flash reinstalled because the installer is trying to download but the download dies at 8% I tried up loading a large file by FTP to a web server with no troubles. Yet any activity on my end that takes longer then about 1 sec to finish, just never finishes I can watch the network log in the taskmanager and it spikes for ruffly one sec then drops back to zero and when I go back to the web page it says it is still loading and no matter how long I let it sit it never does any thing more till I reload then it will again create a very short spike of activity on the connection and then drop to zero. Also if I start a download and it does drop off I can restart the download where it left off and get up to 100Kb/s for around the same one sec then it drops to around 14Kb/s then zero a sec latter... I am running Win 7 home prem x64 with FF11 and IE8 I have simply tried every thing I can short of calling up the ISP which very likely will get me no where fast. any advice on what step to take to figure this out would be nice. I am not even sure it is not just an ISP problem. (at least I should be able to get flash reinstalled once I get back home)

• Unusual Caching Issue with IE 7/8 and IIS 7

  We recently moved a site into production running Server 2008 x64 and IIS 7. The ASP.NET pages apparently load just fine, but when it comes to IE 7 and 8, a weird caching issue has cropped up with the CSS and JavaScript files on the page. On a very sporadic schedule, IE does not get all the files necessary to compose the page (i.e. CSS and JS files). When I manually go to the missing files from the address bar, they come back from local cache as empty. I F5 these source files and magically they come down properly. I refresh the site after loading a few files and the cache seems to hold. This problem has only been reproduced (again, sporadically) on IE 7 and 8 running XP. Chrome and Firefox appear to be immune. We have set IIS to use server-side kernel caching for CSS, JS and images. We also have set to expire content for the App_Themes and Scripts directories to expire immediately. One initial thought it was a SWF loading an FLV on page load. These fixes have not remedied the problem. We had no problems on our staging server which is using Server 2003 and IIS 6. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. P.S. • Default route not on LAN

  I have a network that in principle looks like this: H1---\ /----Inet1 H2---->---GW1---< H3---/ \----GW2-----Inet2 H1 and H2 = Hosts that need access to internet with GW1 Inet1 = Internet link over 3G connection Inet2 = 5GHz link to Internet (not always up) GW1 = Works as a router, automatically picking the "best" connection between Inet1 and Inet2 (the latter via GW2). GW2 = 5GHz wifi router And here's the problem: H3 only needs internet access when Inet2 is up. What i was thinking of doing was a routing table that looks like this: route to GW2 via GW1 default route is via GW2 I first set the route to GW2 via GW1 without a problem. But when i try route add default gw 1.2.3.4 (1.2.3.4 being the IP of GW2), it complains "SIOCADDRT: No such device" Is the problem that the default gw i'm trying to set is not reachable directly? Is there a different approach that would allow me to achieve this? An alternative (and hypothetical) approach: Since H3 will be using a static IP, is it possible to do some magic with iptables on GW1 to forward any packets from H3 to GW3, thereby "tricking" H3 into using GW2 as its default router?

  How install ImageMagic 6.6.2 on Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) Problem that lucid have old ImageMagic version(6.5.2) Its very important because me need work with SVG grafics, In my local pc I have ubuntu 11.04 and ImageMagic 6.6.2 and all work fine, In server I have 6.5... and I have problem. Reinstall ubuntu to 11.* this is no solution. I tried change /etc/apt/source.list from ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) to list from ubuntu 11.04 (natty) and update ImageMagic. After this action I have ImageMagic 6.6.2 (I looked phpinfo()) but ImageMagick is not work now. • keyboard intermittently stops working even after reinstalling windows 7; possibly a Chrome issue?

  My keyboard intermittently stops working. Sometimes a couple of keys will work, but usually none. Sometimes if I mash the ctrl+alt+windows keys randomly for a bit, the keyboard will let me type one more letter before stopping again. Sometimes the keys will open a program menu but usually not. I have even completely wiped my machine and reinstalled windows 7; the problem continues. Specs: Intel iMac (early 2006, 2.0GHz, 2MB RAM, 240GB HD) running ONLY Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit (NOT through boot camp) and using a USB keyboard (Saitek Eclipse II.) Unplugging & reconnecting keyboard does NOT fix it. Connecting a different keyboard does NOT fix it. That one won't work, either. Drivers are up-to-date. Removing and reinstalling drivers does NOT fix it. Restarting the computer does NOT fix it. In fact, when the Windows logon screen appears the keyboard won't work and neither will the icon to pull up the on-screen keyboard. My mouse can click around just fine. I can only log onto a non-password protected account. Generally, logging into as different Windows user fixes it. I can then log back on to my main user account and continue work for a few hours until it happens again. Clearing my Chrome browsing data stopped the problem from recurring for a week or so. I have already REINSTALLED Windows 7 (not just a restore.) The problem returned after 2 days of use. I use Avira free antivirus software, and repeated scans turn up nothing fishy. I suspect it is related to something in Google Chrome because I used my google account to reload all my previous Chrome extensions, saved data, etc. (Chrome Extensions Installed: AdBlock, Better Google Tasks, DropBox, FB Photo Zoom, Google Mail Checker, StayFocusd.) Any ideas? Any at all?

• Intermittent unavailability of an instance in a failover cluster while a standby node is offline in

  Hi everyone. I've got a small failover cluster that I run for the websites my company has. During a RAM upgrade of the standby server, our websites started to show errors about not being able to access the database server. I verified that the instance was indeed up and the server accessable via remote desktop. I also tried a SQL connection to it and it worked, but that might have been after it became available again. This happened on and off until we were able to roll back the hardware changes that were in progress on the standby server and we were able to bring it back up. There was nothing of interest in the SQL Server log, but there is a continous log for the whole duration of the problem, so there was no restart of the SQL Server service. The event viewer is of more interest, since it shows events relating to the heartbeat network card, but I don't know how that would affect the availability of the server, since the standby node is offline. I'd appreciate any help you can provide, it's not very redundant if the setup depends on the standby server being up. :) Here are the event logs from the time of the problem, I include all of them since I can't seem to see what could possibly be the cause of the problem.   I am trying to do work with examples on Trees as given here: http://cslibrary.stanford.edu/110/BinaryTrees.html These examples all solve problems via recursion, I wonder if we can provide a iterative solution for each one of them, meaning, can we always be sure that a problem which can be solved by recursion will also have a iterative solution, in general. If not, what example can we give to show a problem which can be solved only by recursion/Iteration? --
