  • Windows Application Data Directory

    Not completely a programming question, but its close enough so here goes: In Mac OS I'll put user-specific files for my app in ~/Library/Application Data/{MyApp}/ and in *nix I'll put them in ~/.{MyApp}/ - where should I put them for Windows? I'll be using Ruby's File.expand_path to get to this directory, so if there's a windows equivalent of ~ then that's fine. (Answers for Windows XP, Vista and 7 would be appreciated if they're not the same)

  • Globbing in `git checkout`

    Is there any way to implement globbing in git checkout? It would be great to be able to use git checkout re* or even to have tab completion in the shell. I'm using zsh, but an answer that is shell independent would be great. Note: I realize that this is kind of a pipe dream, so... if I needed to implement this myself, must it be done in the shell language itself, or could it be done in, say, Ruby?

  • Parameterizing a SQL IN clause?

    How do I parameterize a query containing an IN clause with a variable number of arguments, like this one? select * from Tags where Name in ('ruby','rails','scruffy','rubyonrails') order by Count desc In this query, the number of arguments could be anywhere from 1 to 5. I would prefer not to use a dedicated stored procedure for this (or XML), but if there is some fancy SQL Server 2008 specific way of doing it elegantly, I am open to that.

  • How to find and fix issue with Pound and HAProxy

    Pound sits in front of HAProxy (on the same box) to perform SSL off-load. Requests are passed to 127.0.0.1:80 where HAProxy then balances the requests across backend servers for a hosted ASP .NET web app. A user is getting HTTP error 500 (Internal Server Error) returned to their browser this morning and I can see it is comming from Pound. They see no log entry in their web app (IIS) server logs, so its not hitting the back end servers. I think the problem is possibly with HAProxy.   • I need help debugging apache with gdb (no debugging symbols found)

    I'm trying to debug a segfault in PHP/Apache running on RHEL4. This is a production server, so I'm trying to install a separate copy of apache and php, and run apache through gdb. When I load httpd through gdb and then do run -X, I get the error (no debugging symbols found)...Error while reading shared library symbols: Dwarf Error: Cannot handle DW_FORM_strp in DWARF reader. The Apache manual says something about setting EXTRA_CFLAGS to "-g", and i've tried configuring with --enable-maintainer-mode, but I don't seem to be getting far.

  • Will logging debugging incur a performance hit if I don't turn debugging on?

    On a Cisco device, I know that enabling debugging can incur a performance hit since debugging has such a high priority on the CPU. I know that to log debugging, you have to set logging up to the debugging level (logging buffered 4096 debugging, for example) and also enable debugging on some feature. Does configuring the logging debugging incur the performance hit even if you don't enable debugging on some feature, or would it be safe (assuming you want and can handle all the logging events via syslog) to configure 'logging buffered 4096 debugging' to have maximum logging available if/when someone uses debug?

    I seem to be having trouble figuring out why supervisord won't run as a non-root user.   • XRDP: window manager not starting

    I have setup my Ubuntu server so that I can connect and login to XRDP from Windows remote desktop. My problem is that after logging in, no window-manager is started. It only displays a single gnome-terminal with no border and gray meshed background. It seems that /usr/sbin/xrdp-sesman itself is running (from observation of ps and /var/run/xrdp/xrdp-sesman.pid). I put debugging line like touch /home/myname/aaaaa into ~/startwm.sh or /etc/xrdp/startwm.sh, but the file aaaaa did not generated after logging in, so these scripts have not been executed. (Both of them have chmod +x permission.) Am I missing some configuration file, or is there any way of further inspection? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.   • What can I use to read keyboard codes on Mac OS X?

    I'm trying to debug some keyboard combinations and shortcuts in iTerm2 and am looking for a program to read keyboard codes. Is there an app that I can run which will tell me the keyboard codes for the keys I'm pressing? The thing that is prompting this is I'm trying to replicate the control+a / control+e behavior in iTerm2 of moving the cursor to the start / end of the line - but using the arrow keys, but I can't seem to figure out the right keycodes to do this.

I want to update computers that are currently running an older version of Java, a mixture of 7.6 and 7.7, some computers are running versions as old as 6.31. Some are running a mixture of both. I would also like this GP to install Java if it's not installed. Previously I used push out Java updates to users machines as Java didn't remove the old version. So when it was done the user would restart their browser or pc to start using the latest version. Not the best way to manage it as it leaves the old version installed but it worked. I've created group policies before for printer deployment, log on drive mapping scripts, but never software deployment. I've extracted the Java MSI and created a transform file to suppress reboot etc using orca. As described on this site http://ivan.dretvic.com/2011/06/how-to-package-and-deploy-java-jre-1-6-0_26-via-group-policy/. I have also tried saving the edited MSI directly and that didn't work either. But it just won't deploy. I have tried to enable logging as suggested on this site http://openofficetechnology.com/node/32, GPO logging via UserEnvDebugLevel, Software deployment logging via AppmgmtDebugLevel and MSI logging, but there is no log C:\Windows\Debug\UserMode\userenv.log being created.     Hi guys, I've just updated from 9.10 to 10.04. Everything seems to run fine except for zend optimizer which is throwing "Zend Optimizer not installed" error. I went to php.ini and the following line is still there Code: zend_extension=/etc/php5/ZendOptimizer.so Also I checked that the file does exist and that the php.ini I am looking at is in fact the php.ini file that is being used by the server.   • Run a perl script as a windows 7 service

    I have a perl script which is compiled using pp, to be run as a windows service on windows 7 machines. I looked at the thread http://www.perlmonks.org/index.pl?node%5Fid=230377 but of little use because most of them weren't clear and the solutions suggested in that were to create executables and not actually for running as a windows 7 service. I tried putting my compiled exe in the scheduled tasks of windows but I think its not able to run for some reason. How do I debug this?

And secondly I'd like to know how you folks debug your apache configurations. apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName In my Virtual Host configuration I do have these lines: ServerName example.com ServerAlias www.example.com (of course it has my actual info in there) So I guess my question is, why wouldn’t apache be able to determine my fully qualified domain name?

    So I've read a variety of tutorials and how-to's and I'm struggling to make sense of how to get SMTP auth working with virtual mailboxes in Postfix. I used this Ubuntu tutorial to get set up. I'm using Courier-IMAP and POP3 for reading mail which seems to be working without issue. However, the credentials used to read a mailbox are not working for SMTP. I can see from /var/log/auth.log that PAM is being used, does this require a UNIX user account to work?
