• How to generate a Program template by generating an abstract class

  i have the following problem. The 1st step is to implement a program, which follows a specific protocol on startup. Therefore, functions as onInit, onConfigRequest, etc. will be necessary. (These are triggered e.g. by incoming message on a TCP Port) My goal is to generate a class for example abstract one, which has abstract functions as onInit(), etc. A programmer should just inherit from this base class and should merely override these abstract functions of the base class. The rest as of the protocol e.g. should be simply handled in the background (using the code of the base class) and should not need to appear in the programmers code. What is the correct design strategy for such tasks? and how do I deal with, that the static main method is not inheritable? What are the key-tags for this problem? (I have problem searching for a solution since I lack clear statements on this problem) Goal is to create some sort of library/class, which - included in ones code - results in executables following the protocol. EDIT (new explanation): Okay let me try to explain more detailled: In this case programs should be clients within a client server architecture. We have a client server connection via TCP/IP. Each program needs to follow a specific protocol upon program start: As soon as my program starts and gets connected to the server it will receive an Init Message (TcpClient), when this happens it should trigger the function onInit(). (Should this be implemented by an event system?) After onInit() a acknowledgement message should be sent to the server. Afterwards there are some other steps as e.g. a config message from the server which triggers an onConfig and so on. Let's concentrate on the onInit function. The idea is, that onInit (and onConfig and so on) should be the only functions the programmer should edit while the overall protocol messaging is hidden for him. Therefore, I thought using an abstract class with the abstract methods onInit(), onConfig() in it should be the right thing. The static Main class I would like to hide, since within it e.g. there will be some part which connects to the tcp port, which reacts on the Init Message and which will call the onInit function. 2 problems here: 1. the static main class cant be inherited, isn it? 2. I cannot call abstract functions from the main class in the abstract master class. Let me give an Pseudo-example for my ideas: public abstract class MasterClass { static void Main(string[] args){ 1. open TCP connection 2. waiting for Init Message from server 3. onInit(); 4. • Hidden UIView Orientation Change / Layout problems

  The Problem: I have two View Controllers loaded into a root View Controller. Both sub view layouts respond to orientation changes. I switch between the two views using [UIView transformationFromView:...]. Both sub views work fine on their own, but if... Views are swapped Orientation Changes Views are swapped again the View that was previously hidden has serious layout problems. The more I repeat these steps the worse the problem gets. Implementation Details I have three viewsControllers. MyAppViewController A_ViewController B_ViewController A & B ViewControllers have a background image each, and a UIWebView and an AQGridView respectively. UPDATE: I just noticed that when the orientation is landscape, the transition flips vertically, when I would expect it to be horizontal. I don't know wether that's a clue as to what might be going wrong. Switch to the other view... change orientation.... switch back....

• Is Fast Enumeration messing with my text output?

  Here I am iterating through an array of NSDictionary objects (inside the parsed JSON response of the EXCELLENT MapQuest directions API). I want to build up an HTML string to put into a UIWebView. So I put in that NSLog call... and I get the same thing there! It appears that the for() is somehow batching up our output values as we iterate, and putting out the output only once. How do I make it not do this but instead do what I actually want, which is an iterative output as I iterate? Here's what NSLog gets. • UIView, UIScrollView and UITextFields problem calling Method

  I have a view with several embedded UITextFields, this UIView is subordinated to a UIScrollView in IB. Each text field is supposed to invoke a method called updateText defined in the viewcontroller implementation file when the user is done editing the field. For some reason, the method updateText never gets invoked. Anyone have any ideas how to go about fixing this? The method fired off just fine when the UIScrollView was not present in the project but the keyboard would cover the text fields during input, which was annoying. Now my textfields move up above the keyboard when it appears, but won't fire off the method when done editing.   Currently, I have this version of the autocomplete control working when returning XML from a .ashx handler. • Why does this valid Tkinter code crash when mixed with a bit of PyWin32?

  So I'm making a very small program for personal use in tkinter, and I've run into a really strange wall. I'm mixing tkinter with the pywin32 bindings because I really hate everything to do with the syntax and naming conventions of pywin32, and it feels like tkinter gets more done with far less code. The strangeness is happening in the transition between the pywin32 clipboard watching and my program's reaction to it in tkinter. My window and all its controls are being handled in tkinter. The pywin32 bindings are doing clipboard watching and clipboard access when the clipboard changes. From what I've gathered about the way the clipboard watching pieces of pywin32 work, you can make it work with anything you want as long as you provide pywin32 with the hwnd value of your window. I'm doing that part, and it works when the program first starts. It just doesn't seem to work when the clipboard changes. When the program launches, it grabs the clipboard and puts it into the search box and edit box just fine. When the clipboard is modified, the event I want to fire off is firing off...except that event that totally worked before when the program launched is now causing a weird hang instead of doing what it's supposed to do. I can print the clipboard contents to stdout all I want if the clipboard changes, but not put that same data into a tkinter widget. It only hangs like that if it starts to interact with any of my tkinter widgets after being fired off by a clipboard change notification. It feels like there's some pywin32 etiquette I've missed in adapting the clipboard-watching sample code I was using over to my tkinter-using program. Tkinter apparently doesn't like to produce stack traces or error messages, and I can't really even begin to know what to look for trying to debug it with pdb. • NPE when drawing TabWidget in android (only on HTC Magic?)

  I've received report from the user of an app I've written that he gets FC whenever starting a certain activity. I have not been able to reproduce the issue on the emulator or on my HTC Hero (running 1.5), but this user running HTC Magic (with 1.6) is facing this error every time. • jquery with ASP.NET MVC - calling ajax enabled web service

  This is a bit of a continuation of a previous question. Now I'm trying to make a call to an AJAX enabled web service which I have defined within the ASP.NET MVC application (i.e. the MovieService.svc). But the service is never being called in my getMovies javascript function. This same technique of calling the AJAX web service works ok if I try it in a non ASP.NET MVC application, so it makes me wonder if maybe the ASP MVC routes are interfering with things somehow when it tries to make the AJAX web service call. Do you have any idea why my web service isn't getting called? • [C#] Not enough memory or not enough handles?

  I am working on a large scale project where a custom (pretty good and robust) framework has been provided and we have to use that for showing up forms and views. There is abstract class StrategyEditor (derived from some class in framework) which is instantiated whenever a new StrategyForm is opened. StrategyForm (a customized window frame) contains StrategyEditor. StrategyEditor contains StrategyTab. StrategyTab contains StrategyCanvas. This is a small portion of the big classes to clarify that there are many objects that will be created if one StrategyForm object is allocated in memory at run-time. My component owns all these classes mentioned above except StrategyForm whose code is not in my control. Now, at run-time, user opens up many strategy objects (which trigger creation of new StrategyForm object.) After creating approx. 44 strategy objects, we see that the USER OBJECT HANDLES (I'll use UOH from here onwards) created by the application reaches to about 20k+, while in registry the default amount for handles is 10k. Testing on different machines made it clear that the number of strategy objects opened is different for message to pop-up - on one m/c if it is 44, then it can be 40 on another. When we see the message pop-up, it means that the application is going to respond slowly. It gets worse with few more objects and then creation of window frames and subsequent objects fail. We first thought that it was not-enough-memory issue. But then reading more about new in C# helped in understanding that an exception would be thrown if app ran out of memory. This is not a memory issue then, I feel (task manager also showed 1.5GB+ available memory.) M/C specs Core 2 Duo 2GHz+ 4GB RAM 80GB+ free disk space for page file Virtual Memory set: 4000 - 6000 My questions Q1. Does this look like a memory issue and I am wrong that it is not? Q2. Does this point to exhaustion of free UOHs (as I'm thinking) and which is resulting in failure of creation of window handles? Q3. How can we avoid loading up of an StrategyEditor object (beyond a threshold, keeping an eye on the current usage of UOHs)? (we already know how to fetch number of UOHs in use, so don't go there.) Keep in mind that the call to new StrategyForm() is outside the control of my component. Q4. I am bit confused - what are Handles to user objects exactly? Is MSDN talking about any object that we create or only some specific objects like window handles, cursor handles, icon handles? Q5. What exactly cause to use up a UOH?   Recently at a job interview I was given the following problem: Write a script capable of running on the command line as python It should take in two words on the command line (or optionally if you'd prefer it can query the user to supply the two words via the console). Given those two words: a. Ensure they are of equal length b. Ensure they are both words present in the dictionary of valid words in the English language that you downloaded. If so compute whether you can reach the second word from the first by a series of steps as follows a. You can change one letter at a time b. Each time you change a letter the resulting word must also exist in the dictionary c. You cannot add or remove letters If the two words are reachable, the script should print out the path which leads as a single, shortest path from one word to the other. You can /usr/share/dict/words for your dictionary of words. My solution consisted of using breadth first search to find a shortest path between two words. But apparently that wasn't good enough to get the job :( Would you guys know what I could have done wrong? • Parse Nested XML tags with the same name

  Let's take a simple XML document: <x> <e> <e> <e>Whatever 1</e> </e> </e> <e> <e> <e>Whatever 2</e> </e> </e> <e> <e> <e>Whatever 3</e> </e> </e> </x> Using the standard org.w3c.dom, I can get the nodes in X by doing.. NodeList fullnodelist = doc.getElementsByTagName("x"); But if I want to return the next set of "e" I try to use something like .. Element element = (Element) fullnodelist.item(0); NodeList nodes = pelement.getElementsByTagName("e"); Expecting it to return "3" nodes (because there are 3 sets of "e"), but instead, it returns "9" - becuase it gets all entries with "e" apperently. This would be fine in the above case, because I could probably iterate through and find what I'm looking for. The problem I'm having is that when the XML file looks like the following: <x> <e> <pattern>whatever</pattern> <blanks> <e>Something Else</e> </blanks> </e> <e> <pattern>whatever</pattern> <blanks> <e>Something Else</e> </blanks> </e> </x> When I request the "e" value, it returns 4, instead of (what i expect) 2. Am I just not understanding how the DOM parsing works? Typically in the past I have used my own XML documents so I would never name the items like this, but unfortunately this is not my XML file and I have no choice to work like this. • Mouseover triggered on absolute positioned div

  Objective Have a small magnifying glass icon that appears in the top right corner of a table cell when the table cell is hovered over. Mousing over the magnifying glass icon and clicking it will open a dialog window to show detailed information about the item in that particular table cell. I want to reuse the same icon for hundreds of table cells without recreating it each time. Partial Solution Have a single <span> that is absolutely positioned and hidden. When a _previewable table cell is hovered, the <span> is moved to the correct location and shown. This <span> is also moved in the DOM to be a child of the _previewable table cell. This enables a click handler attached to the <span> to find the _previewable parent, and get information from it's jquery data() object that is used to populate the contents of the dialog. Because the <span> was moved from the <body> to be a child of the cell, it gets thrown out and replaced during the AJAX call. So my first thought is to move the <span> back to the body on mouseout of the table cell, like this: else { // On mouseout, $options is moved back to be a child of body $options.appendTo("body"); $options.hide(); } However, with this, the <span> disappears as soon as it is mouseover. The mouseout event seems to be called on _previewable when the mouse moves into the <span>, even though the <span> is a child of _previewable and fully displayed within the boundaries of the _previewable table cell. At this point, I've only tested this in Chrome. Questions Why would mouseout be called on _previewable, when the mouse is still within the boundaries of _previewable? Is it because the <span> is absolutely positioned? How can I make this work, without recreating the <span> and it's click handler on each AJAX table referesh?

  This is not homework, for I am not a student. This is for my general curiosity. I apologize if I am reinventing the wheel here.The function I seek can be defined as follows (language agnostic): int getPercentageOfA(double moneyA, double workA, double moneyB, double workB) { // Perhaps you may assume that workA == 0 // Compute result return result; } Suppose Alice and Bob want to do business together ... such as ... selling used books. Alice is only interested in investing money in it and nothing else. Bob might invest some money, but he might have no $ available to invest. He will, however, put in the effort in finding a seller, a buyer, and doing maintenance. There are no tools, education, health insurance costs, or other expenses to consider. Both Alice and Bob wish to split the profits "equally" (A different weight like 40/60 for advanced users). Both are entrepreneurs, so they deal with low ROI/wage, and high income alike. There is no fixed wage, minimum wage, fixed ROI, or minimum ROI. They try to find the best deal possible, assume risks and go for it. Now, let's stick with the 50/50 model. If Alice invests $100, Bob invests work, and they will end up with a profit (or loss) of $60, they will split it equally - either both get $30 for their efforts/investments, or Bob ends up owing $30 to Alice. A second possibility: Both Alice and Bob invest 100, then Bob does all the work, and they end up splitting $60 profit. It looks like Alice should get only $15, because $30 of that profit came from Bob's investment and Bob's effort, so Alice shall have none of it, and the other $30 is to be split 50/50. Both of the examples above are trivial even when A and B want to split it 35/65 or what have you. Now it gets more complicated: What if Alice invests $70, and Bob invests $30 + does all of the work. It appears simple: (70,30) = (30,30) + (40,0) ... but, if only we knew how to weigh the two parts relative to each other. Another complicated (I think) example: what if Alice and Bob invest $70 and $30 respectively, and also put in an equal amount of work? I have a few data points: When A and B put in the same amount of work and the same $ - 50/50. When A puts in 100% of the money, and B does 100% of the work - 50/50. When A does all of the work and puts in all of the money - 100 for A / 0 for B (and vice-versa). When A puts in 50% of the money, and B puts in 50% of the money as well as does all of the work - 25 for A, and 75 for B (and vice-versa). If I fix things such that always workA = 0%, workB = 100% of the total work, then getPercentageOfA becomes a function: height z given x and y. The question is - how do you extrapolate this function between these several points? What is this function? If you can cover the cases when workA does not have to be 0% of the total work, and when investment vs work is split as 85/15 or using some other model, then what would the new function be?

I've managed to get stored procedures working, however i'm having issues with the delete statements. I've looked high and low and have found no documentation with examples. First I thought maybe the code needs to free the query/connection results after calling the stored procedure, but of course MySQL++ doesn't have a free_result method... or does it?   Hello, I'm writing some additions to a Castle MonoRail based site involving an Add and an Edit form. The add form works fine and uses POST but the edit form uses GET. The only major difference I can see is that the edit method is called with the Id of the object being edited in the query string. When the submit button is pressed on the edit form, the only argument passed is this object Id again. At the end of the day I'm not that familiar with MonoRail and this may be a stupid mistake on my behalf, but I would very much appreciate being made a fool out of if it fixes the problem! :) Thanks

  I have a web application that logs users in a @SessionScoped managed bean. It's all the basic stuff, pretty much like this: users logs in using regular http form and gets redirect to user area (wich is protected using a filter). But if any resource on that area is accessed, the request somehow uses a new session, wich has no managed bean, no user, and the filter does his job, redirecting him to login page. • How do I use constructor dependency injection to supply Models from a collection to their ViewModels

  I'm using constructor dependency injection in my WPF application and I keep running into the following pattern, so would like to get other people's opinion on it and hear about alternative solutions. The goal is to wire up a hierarchy of ViewModels to a similar hierarchy of Models, so that the responsibility for presenting the information in each model lies with its own ViewModel implementation. (The pattern also crops up under other circumstances but MVVM should make for a good example.) Here's a simplified example. Given that I have a model that has a collection of further models: public interface IPerson { IEnumerable<IAddress> Addresses { get; } } public interface IAddress { } I would like to mirror this hierarchy in the ViewModels so that I can bind a ListBox (or whatever) to a collection in the Person ViewModel: public interface IPersonViewModel { ObservableCollection<IAddressViewModel> Addresses { get; } void Initialize(); } public interface IAddressViewModel { } The child ViewModel needs to present the information from the child Model, so it's injected via the constructor: public class AddressViewModel : IAddressViewModel { private readonly IAddress _address; public AddressViewModel(IAddress address) { _address = address; } } The question is, what is the best way to supply the child Model to the corresponding child ViewModel? The example is trivial, but in a typical real case the ViewModels have more dependencies - each of which has its own dependencies (and so on). I'm using Unity 1.2 (although I think the question is relevant across the other IoC containers), and I am using Caliburn's view strategies to automatically find and wire up the appropriate View to a ViewModel. Here is my current solution: The parent ViewModel needs to create a child ViewModel for each child Model, so it has a factory method added to its constructor which it uses during initialization: public class PersonViewModel : IPersonViewModel { private readonly Func<IAddress, IAddressViewModel> _addressViewModelFactory; private readonly IPerson _person; public PersonViewModel(IPerson person, Func<IAddress, IAddressViewModel> addressViewModelFactory) { _addressViewModelFactory = addressViewModelFactory; _person = person; Addresses = new ObservableCollection<IAddressViewModel>(); } public ObservableCollection<IAddressViewModel> Addresses { get; private set; } public void Initialize() { foreach (IAddress address in _person.Addresses) Addresses.Add(_addressViewModelFactory(address)); } } A factory method that satisfies the Func<IAddress, IAddressViewModel> interface is registered with the main UnityContainer. CreateAddressViewModel() creates a temporary child container and registers the IAddress model so that when it resolves the IAddressViewModel from the child container the AddressViewModel gets the correct instance injected via its constructor. This seems to be a good solution to me as the dependencies of the ViewModels are very clear and they are easily testable and unaware of the IoC container. On the other hand, performance is OK but not great as a lot of temporary child containers can be created. Also I end up with a lot of very similar factory methods. Is this the best way to inject the child Models into the child ViewModels with Unity? Is there a better (or faster) way to do it in other IoC containers, e.g. Autofac? How would this problem be tackled with MEF, given that it is not a traditional IoC container but is still used to compose objects?

• MVC SiteMap - when different nodes point to same action SiteMap.CurrentNode does not map to the correct route

  Setup: I am using ASP.NET MVC 4, with mvcSiteMapProvider to manage my menus. I have a custom menu builder that evaluates whether a node is on the current branch (ie, if the SiteMap.CurrentNode is either the CurrentNode or the CurrentNode is nested under it). The code is included below, but essentially checks the url of each node and compares it with the url of the currentnode, up through the currentnodes "family tree". The CurrentBranch is used by my custom menu builder to add a class that highlights menu items on the CurrentBranch. The Problem: My custom menu works fine, but I have found that the mvcSiteMapProvider does not seem to evaluate the url of the CurrentNode in a consistent manner: When two nodes point to the same action and are distinguished only by a parameter of the action, SiteMap.CurrentNode does not seem to use the correct route (it ignores the distinguishing parameter and defaults to the first route that that maps to the action defined in the node). Example of the Problem: In an app I have Members. A Member has a MemberStatus field that can be "Unprocessed", "Active" or "Inactive". To change the MemberStatus, I have a ProcessMemberController in an Area called Admin. The processing is done using the Process action on the ProcessMemberController. My mvcSiteMap has two nodes that BOTH map to the Process action. • Why can't my program display this dialog box, while another program can?

  I'm trying to write a wrapper for Winamp input plugins and have hit a bit of a snag. I'd like my wrapper to be able to display a plugin's configuration dialog, which is (or should be) achieved by calling the plugin's Config(HWND hwndParent) function. For most plugins, this works fine and my program is able to display the plugin's configuration dialog. However, 64th Note (a plugin for playing USF files) is giving me problems. Winamp can display its configuration dialog just fine, but whenever I try to display it from my wrapper, the dialog gets destroyed before it ever shows itself. Thankfully, 64th Note is open source, so I took a look at its innards to try and get an idea of what's going wrong. If I change the Config function so that it displays the plugin's About dialog instead of its configuration dialog, both Winamp and my wrapper will display the About dialog, which suggests that there is something unique to the configuration dialog template that's causing the problem.
