• Non-deprecated replacement for NSCalibratedBlackColorSpace?

  I'm implementing my own NSBitmapImageRep (to draw PBM image files). To draw them, I'm using NSDrawBitmap() and passing it the NSCalibratedBlackColorSpace (as the bits are 1 for black, 0 for white). Trouble is, I get the following warning: warning: 'NSCalibratedBlackColorSpace' is deprecated However, I couldn't find a good replacement for it. NSCalibratedWhiteColorSpace gives me an inverted image, and there seems to be no way to get NSDrawBitmap() to use a CGColorSpaceRef or NSColorSpace that I could create as a custom equivalent to NSCalibratedBlackColorSpace. I've found a (hacky) way to shut up the warning (so I can still build warning-free until a replacement becomes available) by just passing @"NSCalibratedBlackColorSpace" instead of the symbolic constant, but I'd rather apply a correct fix. Anybody have an idea?

• In LaTeX, is there a way to get long lines along the margins?

  I'm working on a report, and some elements are outside the margins (but some are just barely outside the margins). I was wondering: Is there a way to make two vertical lines, one on each side, along the margins so that one can easily see if it goes outside them? (Googling it, I only found information about margin notes.) A figure is below: |report text goes here| |more text goes also h|ere |and so on and so fort|h It would certainly make correcting these kinds of mistakes very trivial. :) Feel free to post answers that would solve/show this problem in a more "LaTeX-correct" way, if that makes any sense at all.

• is putting N in front of strings in scripts considered a "best practice"?

  Let's say I have a table that has a varchar field. If I do an insert like this: INSERT MyTable SELECT N'the string goes here' Is there any fundamental difference between that and: INSERT MyTable SELECT 'the string goes here' My understanding was that you'd only have a problem if the string contained a Unicode character and the target column wasn't unicode. Other than that, SQL deals with it just fine and converts the string with the N'' into a varchar field (basically ignores the N). I was under the impression that N in front of strings was a good practice, but I'm unable to find any discussion of it that I'd consider definitive. Title may need improvement, feel free.

• Server-side access to Client Browser's Latitude/Longitude using Django.

  Hello, So i am writing a little app that compares a user's position against a database on web-based server written using Django and performs some functions with it. Accessing the browser's geolocation data (in supported browsers ) is fairly trivial using JavaScript. But what is the best way to allow the Django server to access the longitude and latitude variables? Is it best to wrap them up as a JSON object and send to the server via POST? Or is there some easier (Geo)Django-based way to access the Navigator.geolocation browser object. Please forgive a newbie a question like this, but my Google-Fuing only seems to find ways to insert variables into JavaScript via template tag, whereas I need it to work the other way! Any advice or code snippets greatly appreciated. Feel free to talk to me like I am an idiot.

  Does anyone know of a way to make Eclipse an SDI application rather than an MDI one? SDI - Single document interface, each pane is its own window MDI - Multiple document interface, all of the panes are stuck inside one "master" window. Eclipse is an MDI application. All of the little panes (like the call stack, variable viewer, ect) are part of the one master Eclipse window. Rather than having all of the windows stuck inside one master "eclipse" window, I'd like them to all be their own free-floating windows.

• Can I tell Borland C++ Builder to copy a file somewhere else after it is built?

  I have two computers. One is intended to be left 'free' for high-performance activities (such as playing games) The other is my 'all purpose' computer where I install all the apps I use for creating things, and so on. On the second computer I use Codegear C++ Builder to work on an app that I use on the first computer. If I have BCB compile to comp 1 it is hopeless. It becomes unresponsive. It compiles locally very quickly. So what I do is compile locally and then copy the exe to the other machine. Well, I'm all for streamlining processes, so I want a way to compile on PC2 and use on PC1 without any intermediate steps. So is it possible to have BCB do the compiling on PC2 and create a local exe file, then copy the file to PC 1?

• FTP/SFTP module for .NET

  I am designing an auto downloader using .NET and C#. I was wondering if there is a decent/robust FTP/SFTP module out there that I can use, preferably free of charge. EDIT: I probably should've noted that I am looking for answer from somebody who tried several and found one that works very well. I currently use .NET wrapper for libcurl for FTP and it does not behave right. For example when I connect to FTP site with Filezilla and provide a path, it finds directory just fine. With libcurl, i get a header for 404 page saying path cannot be found. I am guessing that Filezilla gets 'home' directory correctly, and libcurl puts me to the root (i tried no path, and i had no permissions to access that directory). But anyways, I just don't know enough about FTP itself, so I would like something that just works. Thanks!

  I'm using NUnit for testing back-end. Unit tests are being executed while building (I'm using TeamCity for continuous building). Now I hove to test front-end (Silverlight 4.0). Because the tests are being executed while building, I have to simulate browser (TypeMock - is not free, isn't it?) could I use NUnit.Mocks somehow?. How to use NUnit for Silverlight testing? I've found WHITE framework could it help? Any other advises about software/frameworks to use for Silverlight unit testing?

  Hello folks, I'm writing a sync application for Lotus Notes and Google (I know, there are some of them out there, but they are either not free or sync only calendar (or only contacts) and most of them cannot deal with local mailfiles). This works so far, but I have a problem when syncing contacts: under certain circustances, the contacts have to be deleted and recreated in Google. This causes them to disappear from the chat list in GMail and the people have to be re-invited manually. Is there any way to send these invites through the API? Thanks in advance DBa

• Using multiple databases within one application (ASP.NET MVC, LINQ to SQL)

  I have a web application made for several groups of people not connected with each other. Instead of using one database for all of them, I'm thinking about making separate databases. This will improve the speed of the queries and make me free from checking to what group the user belongs. But since I'm working with LINQ to SQL, my classes are explicitly connected with the databases, so I will have to make separate DataContexts for all of the databases. So how can I solve this problem? Or should I just not bother and use one database only?

I use MS Visual C++ 2010, and I want to send a command: <-S-> I am doing this: SerialPort^ serialPort = gcnew SerialPort(portName , 9600, Parity::None, 8, StopBits::One); serialPort->Open(); serialPort->WriteLine("<-S->"); serialPort->Close(); But the command that goes out is <-S->., and not <-S-> (please notice the point that is attached to the outgoing command). I use Free Serial Port Monitor to watch my ingoing/outcoming data. So how can I get rid of that point in <-S->. ? This is what is going out: 3C 2D 53 2D 3E 0A = <-S-.   HI, I have the following configuration: Server : windows 2003 server (32 bit) java version: 1.5_0_22 I get the following error when executing from command line ( my code is based off eclipse wihch gives the same error) java -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Xmx512m Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. The server has over 20GB physical memory with over 19 GB free right now. It does not give an error upto -Xmx486m I have read other articles about contiguous memory space. There is hardly anything running on this server. Can I validae this in any way? Thanks

I want users to be able to upload a report definition/template file and then be able to print out a PDF or word document (one or the other it doesn't need to be both) for each of their widgets based off of the template they uploaded. I can't install anything on the server and am looking for an open source/free solution. Data Source- The data will be in the form of a datatable or dataset that the application fetches itself. The report tool does will not be able to connect to any database.

  I want to port an open source program to iPhone, the license prohibited any commercial use of the code. I emailed the author and he sent back an email saying freeware is ok. Of course I cannot (should not) charge anything on top of the code. Still, I want to get compensation for my work on UI design, graphics and integration work.   This question is not about 'best' barcode library recommendation, we use various products on different platforms, and need a simple way to verify if a given barcode is correct (according to its specification). There are some free online bar code generators in the Internet, and I found many differences between their output and our library output regarding graphics and text field below the code. Now I am not sure which one is wrong, and before filing bug report I want to make sure how the correct barcode should look like. We mainly need Code128 and UCC/EAN-128 with A/B/C subcodes. • iTune redeem codes: limited to a single version?

  Hi, I'm wondering if V1.0 generated redeem codes will be usable on a V1.1 version of my app? BTW, I know redeem codes are valid only 4 weeks and I also know that apps downloaded with a redeem code can be upgraded for free as with paid ones. My concern here is just: do unused redeem codes become invalid when a new version of my app will be available on the store? Apple's doc is not clear about this point. • Advice about testing an application before release?

  I would like to get some tips from peer developers about how you go about testing an application you developed, prior to release to QA. Keep in mind, this is a small scale application (requirements are verbal), and so doing formal testing processes wont work, especially, since your boss told you to develop this app quick, push it out the door. Despite the time restraints, I would like to make sure it is bug free, however, numerous times in the past, I have had the app sent back to me because clicking the "Reset" button, messes up the other controls alignment etc. I know there are people out there that develop small scale apps fast, and send them out with minimal bugs.   Hello, I need to generate small images for certain parts of text. Those will have to fit into the text seamlessly. I know I can not make up for every browser font settings available, but how do I have to check for Linux, Mac and Windows users depending on the user agent? I want to use the right font (of the three "Verdana, Arial, Helvetiva") for the right user agent OS. So: How do I check for the OS? What do I have to compare to in the user agent? Where can I get the other two fonts. Does the Windows-included Verdana look the same as the one used on Linux (or, is it free anyway? I don't know much about fonts)? Where do I get Helvetica? Is it Mac OS licensed? Any code examples can be in either c# or VB.NET. I can read both. Thank you in advance.

I originally had it set to a variable (currently commented out) but I thought that could be causing problems. I have created the table with dates ranging from 2012-11-01 to 2012-11-15 for testing and entered all of this php code onto phpfiddle.org but I can't get the username provided to connect.
