• Stream video from one app to another in OS X (Software video input device)

  Not sure how specifically to word this... I'm wondering if there's any way to take a video stream from one application, for example VLC Media Player, and present that video stream to other applications as a video input source. For example, could I broadcast a video file from my hard disk to a website that allows video conferencing using a Flash applet? Basically, I'm looking for something like Soundflower, but for video streams. Is this possible? Tags, title, question re-wording suggestions welcomed -- I'm not sure how to properly describe this. • Getting VMWare ESXi 5.0.0 with RAID using the Intel X79 chipset to work

  I have bought a new server where I use the motherboard ASUS P9X79 WS X79 S-2011 ATX. It will be used for virtualization, preferably using VMware vSphere Hypervisor™ (ESXi) if I can get the RAID on my motherboard working with VMWare (it does not detect it). The motherboard has the Intel® X79 chipset, which for RAID controller means vendor ID 8086 (Intel) and model ID 2826. When I boot the ESXi 5.0.0 installation media from my flash drive I can not see drives in the RAID5 set I created. Questions: Is there a VIB file for the RAID controller I can use? I have found one article at http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/CS-033313.htm on getting RAID to work with some Intel controllers, it lists 9 integrated RAID modules it is comptabile with. However, there is no mention of the X79 chipset.

• Stuck part-way through installation of windows 7, upgrade product key, cannot cancel or finish installation

  I'm trying to install Windows 7 (to get rid of Windows 8). I started the installation, cleared the minefield Microsoft has put in to stop me uninstalling 8, but forgot that my Windows 7 disk is an upgrade. So now I'm part-way through the 7 install. Can't go back, can't convince Microsoft that I have a valid key; I tried stopping the Windows 7 install and booting XP first, but I can't either - the unfinished Windows 7 install prevents that. Where's the way out? Update: Having spent some time with a Microsoft operative, I know why I can't install XP; this recent computer doesn't support IDE SATA mode, only AHCI. So the problem is: - straight install - key not valid - XP first before upgrade - XP cannot install due to newer HDD interface.

  I am going insane with an error I am encountering while trying to install a PV Guest of Debian Wheezy on a Ubuntu Server precise Xen default build with libvirt. The steps I take with virt-manager are the following: 1.Net install via: http://ftp.es.debian.org/debian/dists/stable/main/installer-amd64/ 2.Install process is flawless, installed via VNC over virt-manager 3.When the VM starts I get the following error: Error starting domain: POST operation failed: xend_post: error from xen daemon: (xend.err "Bootloader isn't executable") Most answers i have found on google say that I need to edit the VM's .cfg file and correct the path to pygrub but virt-manager does not seem to create this file (I have searched the entire drive with "find". Another detail is that virsh list --all shows no VMs (Not even dom0) while the command xm list shows all of them. Any help is much appreciated. EDIT: Connected remotely via virsh: virsh -c xen+ssh://user@ip dumpxml vmname Found line: /usr/bin/pygrub ln -s /usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin/pygrub /usr/bin/pygrub Now it works.   Hello, We have run out of hard disk space on our existing Small Business Server 2008 and simply wish to upgrade both of the hard drives (currently raid 1) - without too much hassle. My main concern is how to copy across the embedded version of Microsoft Exchange 2007. Is there a simple way to copy all the data across and upgrade?   One of our customers has just found a problem when trying to create a file on the root of the C:\ Drive, on a Windows 7 Professional PC. I know they shouln't be keeping files here, but there is a valid reason in this case, so I've relaxed the security on the root of C:\ by giving the group 'users' modify permission. Before I relaxed the security, the user was receiving 'access denied', but now they are receiving the message: An unexpected error is keeping you from creating the file. If you continue to recieve this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x80070522: A required priviledge is not held by the client. Googling for this suggests that it is caused by UAC, but how can I get round this when the user doesn't have admin rights on their PC?

  While running Office 2007 Ultimate Setup on Windows 7 box, I get this error message - "Setup cannot find PowerPoint.en-us\PptLR.cab". This file is very much present in the setup folder. It gives me an option to choose the correct path of this file, but when I browse and navigate to the folder containing this file, it doesn't show me the CAB file for selection. I tried installing both from DVD and also running setup from hard disk location. The same setup media was used earlier for installation on Vista without any issues!

  I've got an Ubuntu 64bit VM that I derived from a ~1GB ova file, I used it under VMware vSphere to install some more software on it and use the system against a few datasets that took some 2-3GB of space, but now that I deleted these big files, I was expecting that the newly generated ova file from it would also take about ~1.1GB of space, but instead is taking about 3GB. If I look at the details the .vmdk file in virtualbox, I see the following: Hart Disk: SATA Port 0 Type (Format): Normal (VMDK) Virtual Size: 8.00 GB Actual Size: 7.90 GB Details: Dynamically allocated storage Location: /somewhere/myVM-disk1.vmdk Attached To: myVM.virtualbox The size of the ova when I export this machine is ~3GB. Any ideas how I can shrink it?

• Disable static content caching in IIS 7

  I'm a developer having what should be a relatively simple problem in IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 R2. The problem is that IIS 7 is overzealously caching all static content on the server. It's caching all .html and .js content and not noticing when the content changes on disk unless I iisreset. I've tried the following: Deleting the local cache in my browser (I'm 99% positive this is a server caching issue) In IIS Admin in OutputCaching adding an .html extension and unchecking "User mode caching" and unchecking "Kernel-mode caching" In IIS Admin in OutputCaching adding an .html extension and checking "User mode caching" and selecting the radio for "Prevent all caching" In IIS Admin editing Output Cache Feature settings and unchecking "Enable cache" and "Enable kernel cache under OutputCaching. Running "C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\appcmd set config "SharePoint - 80" -section: system.webServer/caching -enabled:false" Looking through applicationHost.config and disabling anything related to caching I could find. Nothing seems to work. I'm getting very frustrated. Can anyone please help?

• How is this word document encoded?

  Hi all, We have a program that was written for us by a developer that we can no longer contact, the program opens word documents (forms) that we use in our company, you can tell they are Word documents as the 'Word' toolbar displays with this custom program and we can see the .doc files on the hard drive, the Save button is disabled in the program and when we open the .doc files in word the encoding is not standard as the forms are unreadable but look perfect in the custom program. If we can word out how he has done this we can hopefully convert the 100's of forms that we use. One of the .doc files can be download below, I've scanned it for viruses, it's clean.   I'm trying to have some productivity with my VXL ITONA thin client. it is very minimalistic: 128 MB disk, 64 MB ram, with an Ezra via processor. out of the box it comes with GIO linux, I could run from a USB key puppy linux and damnsmalllinux (but I couldn't make them installed on the SSD drive). more customizable distros like arch-linux and slax fail to load due to kernel failure caused by lack of cmov instruction in the VIA processor. I really like to make it usable, can you please recommend me a nice distro? I'm afraid the Gentoo solution is too scary for me right now (compiling a linux kernel over a a thin client is too much) thanks!

But when I was installing Windows 7 x64 for two times I got a BSOD, and a error message like this: Your PC has rebooted unexpectly, installation will continue after reboot. I have checked everything and tried to install once more time. It was almost successful, Windows had installed, but I cannot format my disk, open cmd or control panel, boot from DVD etc. It's the first time I have assembled a PC, and I don't know where the problem is, in my hardware or in Windows. drive and I get this error message whenever I try to double click c:\ drive or other drives but other than that everything seems to be working fince except that I can not access my drives.... its very • How to install Windows 7 onto software RAID-0

  I recently got a new laptop (Asus G73JH-A2) which has two identical hard drives in it. Unfortunately the motherboard does not have a RAID controller. What I would like to do is run the drives in a RAID-0 configuration to improve performance (plus get the extra capacity on one partition). I would like Windows installed onto the striped volume (RAID 0). I have spent some time using diskpart to create a striped volume across the two drives, however when I go to install windows and select the volume it will not let me select 'Next' giving the error "Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition contains one or more dynamic volumes that are not supported for installation." I'm hoping theres a step that I am missing that will allow me to install windows on a striped volume. Any ideas?

  BIOS issue on HP dv9233cl laptop, wiped drive of Vista, loaded XP, not all the drives loaded. Went to the HP website, downloaded all drivers for this laptop. Started loading them. Loaded WIN Flash HP Network System BIOS Window SP42187. After a minute a low resolution screen appeared stating "It is now safe to turn off the computer" I waited a minute and half. Turned it off. Let it set 10 seconds try to start and No screen images at all and a nasty loud long beep 2 short beeps, 2 seconds of silence and it happens over & over again. I have unplugged/removed battery, still same problem, Any sugg.... Thx.. Paul
