• Configuring RAID1 on HP Proliant Microserver N54L / Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: Cant find my harddrives in ubuntu installation? 2 answers I've bought a N54L and fitted two 3GB drives. Keen to get set up with RAID1. BIOS: SATA controller mode set to "RAID" RAID Option ROM utility: both physical drives set up as one logical drive When I came to install Ubuntu (14.04.1), both drives appeared during the setup process. I was only expecting to see the logical drive, although I'm a complete novice with RAID. I've read that the HP Proliant Microservers don't have "proper" RAID support, and require some kind of driver to be installed. I've tried a few HP utilities from the following apt repo: deb http://downloads.linux.hp.com/SDR/repo/mcp wheezy/current non-free On installation, most say "server not supported" Would appreciate your advice.

• Scheduled Task to show console window when logged on but still run when not logged on

  Is it possible (and if so, how) to set up a task (console application) in Server 2008 so that it'll run both when a user is logged in and when no user is logged in, AND - if the user is logged in (either local or via RDP) - have the console appear on the screen while the program is running? Ie. the program should run under the defined user context and it writes status messages to stdout, which goes to a standard console window. This console window is either shown (if the defined user is currently logged in locally or via RDP), or not shown (but the application is still run). I have access to the source of the console application, so if it needs some additional code (like specifically opening up a new console window or what have you), then that's not a problem. At the moment, I can set up the task as "Run only when user is logged on" which will run the application when the user is logged on (local or RDP) and I can then see the status messages, or I can set it up as "Run whether user is logged or not" and no status output is visible - not even if the user is logged on.

If I set up a custom service on my fortigate firewall for ftps with source ports 990-50050 and destination ports 990-50050, set it to a firewall policy and connect from a client it connects and works successfully. If I create a service FTPS Control with source port 990 and destination port 990 and another service,FTP Data with source ports 50000-50050 and destination ports 50000-50050 add them to a group FTPSSL, replace the ftps policy with FTPSSL and try connecting it tries to connect to port 990 and eventually times out. Is there a way to configure the service to only use the ports I need and not every port from 990 up?

Is there a possibility to set up dynamic DNS on the second router, without changing any (or much) on the main router?   Hi there, We have two ubuntu 8.04 servers. With the database server I set the table_cache to 1000 however when I restart mysql the status only shows 257 and the open files limit says 1024 I adjusted ulimit by doing ulimit -n 8192 and then restarting mysql; this seemed to do the tick however after a few hours I did ulimit -n and saw it had returned back to 1024 Bit of a worry. I edited the /etc/security/limits.conf and added mysql soft nofile 8192 mysql hard nofile 8192 then rebooted, no change. I then edited and change mysql to * rebooted, no change I then edited and changed it to one line * - nofile 8192 and rebooted, no change. cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max gives me 768730 sysctl fs.file-max gives me fs.file-max = 768730 I am at a bit of a loss to how I can set and keep the ulimit value set so I can increase the table cache properly on mysql.

• How can I expire non-active sessions on my Netscreen SSG140?

  I have a Juniper Netscreen SSG-140. While experimenting with a VoIP service, I defined a custom policy that was to be used to permit the possible ports in use to be sent back to the VoIP server from systems connecting across the internet. Because I'd had problems in the past with VoIP systems getting broken when their UDP sessions were expired out faster than their keep-alives were generated, I set the timeout on this custom service to be 'never'. After much experimentation, I happened to notice that my session count on the firewall has grown from a couple thousand to over 36000. After discussion with the VoIP "expert", I set the timeout to be 30 minutes; however, all the sessions set up during the experimentation process are still there, more than 3 days later. Is there a way I can force these old sessions to get expired and removed from the session table, or am I looking at resetting my firewall? (Both firewalls, actually -- they are in a cluster.)

  I have a legacy application that emails via php. 5% of the emails aren't going through. The solution is to route all email through a fancy verified mail server like Amazon's SES. I am having some trouble implementing this functionality. It seems this guy had a similar problem. My question is where in postfix can I set a filter that will take as input the the message headers, so that I can manually set the From field and the Reply-To field to [email protected] and [email protected], respectively. Where whatever_php_wants is dictated by the php program and the users registration email. I know where to set the noreply portion, but I don't know the exact place in postfix's configuration files where I can intercept complete emails and pass them to a script. • VPN - Remote Desktop Connection

  I've set up a VPN connection to my work network on my home PC - running Windows 7 It connects fine. Once connected, I can ping machines that are on my work network using my home pc, however, if I try to RDP to them, it doesn't connect... It seems to initially connect, It asks me for the logon user / password, and when I set them, and click OK, it gets stuck on a screen saying: "Securing Remote Connection" Eventually it pops up saying "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again. If the problem persists, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator" I know this computer is configured to allow remote connections etc... (and I've tried it with several different machines on the remote network) Any ideas what i've set wrong?

  I've been trying to set up two TP LINK wireless N cameras that I bought so that I can see them remotely. I've set it up so that each has it's own ip address (192...105/192...106) and I can access them if I type that into the browser of a local computer The thing is that I don't know how to access them from another remote PC. My current setup is a a each camera connected to the router which then connects to the modem. When I set up the Dynamic DNS, and I access the "webpage" for my IP through a remote computer, it just goes to the configuration page of the modem. I have no idea how to make it go to the router or to the cameras. the router has its own ip range of 192.168.1.x while the modem has 192.168.2.x To access the cameras I type into the web browser: 192.168.1.114:100 on the local computer but I have no idea how to get there through the webpage of my Dynamic DNS remotely.

• CPU's on Hyper-V host system is just idling, even though VM's are at full throttle

  Hello, I have a server that is running Windows 2008 64 bit Hyper-V, with 8 gigs of RAM and Intel Xeon X3440 @ 2.53 Ghz, which gives me 8 logical cores in the performance monitor on the host system. I have set up three Virtual Machines, all running Windows 2008 32 bit. Build server, running Team City Staging server SQL Server, running SQL Server 2005 These three machines are running very sluggishly, they are at 100% cpu even though the host system is barely using any cpu at all, typically below 10% total. Could anyone please give some tips as to the best setup for CPU allocating? Should I have set each server to have two cores, or should I increase this number above the total number of cores on the host? What is a good number to set on the Virtual Machine Reserve and Virtual Machine Limit? Is 8 gigs of physical RAM insufficient for 3 VM's? Thanks for reading. :)

  I've recently acquired a Steelseries Sensei. Despite being a great mouse, I'm having some trouble finding settings that I can get used to... The mouse engine allows me to set a CPI from 0 to 5700. It also allows me to set it even higher, calling it "DCPI" (Double CPI), from 5701 to 11400. On Window's Control Panel, there's a "Pointer Speed" slider and a "Enhance Pointer Precision" checkbox (wording may be different as I use a non-english version). The majority of games allow me to set an in-game "Mouse Sensitivity". Some games let me use a "Raw mouse input". I'm already familiar with the basics of CPI/DPI - "higher CPI means less hand movement", but what are the differences between all those options? Is there a "better" or "worst" setting?

  I am trying to set up my Sonicwall TZ-210 as follows: Two WAN interfaces (different ISPs), set up in failover mode. Two LAN interfaces with different subnets Each LAN subnet will have a preferred outbound WAN interface, but would failover when necessary. In this way, each ISP is being used for a separate subnet of my network, but both subnets could failover to the other ISP if their primary went down. I know how to do 1 and 2, but I don't know how to do 3. I could set up a route for each subnet to go through a specific interface, but what would happen in the event of a failover? Would it automatically update those routes? Thanks!

  I have ZSH as default shell in MacOS, everything is working fine. ZSH is installed as brew package, Ive set default shell in my account, new shell is listed in /etc/shells... everything is set, like I've said. I have some shell scripts in which I use some commands from zsh, like print. When I execute the script from command line, the print command is not recognized and the script fails. This script does not have the shebang line. When I put the shebang line for zsh, then everything works; the print command is working. Since I am using only ZSH, is it possible to set default shell for running scripts, so I don't have to put shebang line in my .zsh scripts? Or is it possible to associate .zsh extension to ZSH shell execution?

• Cron Tips for not running cron jobs on holidays (the monday of a three day weekend)

  We have about a one hundred machine set-up with each machine running cron jobs like starting and stopping services and archiving these services' log files at the end of the day to a centralized repository. One headache we have is the three-day weekend (we're closed on holidays). We don't want the services starting up on those days and connecting to our business partner's machines. We currently do this by manually commenting out the most critical jobs and letting a bunch of errors happen all day. Not ideal. Basically if a job has '1-5' set in the day field we want this to mean 'work days' and not Monday to Friday'. We have a database that keeps track of which days are indeed 'work days' So, is it possible to override Cron's day-matching algorithm, or is there some other way to easily set a cron setting to avoid things starting up on a Monday holiday? • Global hotkeys: songbird on KDE

  I'm running songbird on opensuse 11.2 KDE 4.3.1 on my EEE pc. On windows, there is a hotkey thing inside Songbird, so i set META F9,10,11,12 as media keys and it work just fine. On linux, there is not hotkey thing in songbird, and I would like to set those same hotkeys. I've played around with the Amarok Hotkeys, which are now setup that way, and looked in all the KDE shortcuts, but cannot find a way to add a new program and new hot keys. I know its possible, I did it before once, but the KDE shortcut programs have changed and I no longer see the stuff i used to do it before. I'd like to do the same to banshee at some point, but Songbird is the important program. Any Ideas? Any way to set those keys to generic media buttons?

  I am running Ubuntu Server 12.04 and prefer to compile PHP myself as opposed to installing it using apt-get. PHP is running as PHP-FPM. When compiling extensions, I can set it to be compiled as a shared extension using something like --with-bcmath=shared and so on. Are there any benefits to compiling the extensions as shared? I also noticed that the extensions are compiled into a pretty convoluted folder. On my system (my php prefix is /usr/local/php-5.4.9) the extensions end up in /usr/local/php-5.4.9/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20100525. Is there a global way to set a folder so that all shared extensions will be compiled in there? I understand that I can do something like --with-foobar=shared,/usr/local/foobar/ but having to set the extension folder for each shared extension is inefficient and error-prone.

  I'm trying to set up postfix to allow relaying under a limited set of conditions: The destination domain is one of a pre-defined list -or- The client successfully logs in Here's the relevant bits o' config: smtpd_sasl_auth_enable=yes relay_domains=example.com smtpd_recipient_restrictions=permit_auth_destination,reject_unauth_destination smtpd_client_restrictions=permit_sasl_authenticated,reject The problem is that it requires that BOTH restrictions be satisfied, rather than either-or. Which is to say, it only allows relaying if the client is authenticated AND the recipient domain is @example.com. Instead, I need it to allow relaying if either one of the requirements is satisfied. How do I do this without resorting to running SMTP on two separate ports with different rules? Note: The context is an outbound-use-only (bound to 127.0.0.1) MTA on a shared web server which all site owners are allowed to relay mail to one of the "owned" domains (not server-local, though), and for which a limited set of "trusted" site owners are allowed to relay mail without restriction provided they have a valid SMTP login.

  So I registered a domain name. I then set up a static webpage using aws (S3 and Rout53). Now what I want to do is forward any email I get from that custom domain name to a personal email address I have set up. I can't seem to figure out how to do this. I have these record sets already: A NS SOA CNAME I believe I have to set up an MX record but not sure how. say I have the custom domain [email protected] and I want to redirect all email to [email protected]. • Google Apps email forwarding to a mailbox within the same domain

  It's either me or this feature doesn't work. I have a Google Apps account (non-paid) for example.com set up fine and dandy. Among other addresses, there are support@ and employee@. Now I want to set up Filters such that all mail sent to support@ should be forwarded to employee@. Note that this is not POP3/IMAP forwarding: I really need to do this with filters. The problem is as such: when an email arrives to support@ it is never ever forwarded to an address within the same domain, but is forwarded perfectly fine to some "outside" address (for instance, forwarding to my personal GMail account works flawlessly). How do I set up Filters to forward email propely?
