• The best way to store username and password without a database

  Hello everyone, I want to build a simple single user login "library" in PHP, but I'm facing the following dilemma: how should I store username and password if I'm not using a database? A simple plain text file could be easily read and then the password could be easily decripted so that's not an option. If I create a php file with just <?php $Username= "username"; $Password= "password"; ?> then no one should be able to read it and I could simply include this file where I need it, but I'm not really sure you can't find a better way to do this! So what's, in your opinion, the best solution to this problem (and why)? Thanks

  On Windows, no matter which framework you use, all the frameworks need, ultimately, to call the user mode user32::CreateWindowEx API to actually create a window on the desktop. On Ubuntu, or indeed Linux systems in general, it seems that the choices are to use a widget framework like Wx or Qt or GTK+ to create a GUI application, but all these frameworks feel like they are wrapping something more fundamental. Do these all talk directly to X on Linux? I thought Ubuntu was moving to a non X window manager, so what are they going to use then? What library would I use to access the window manager all these frameworks use?

• fastest way to perform string search in general and in python

  My task is to search for a string or a pattern in a list of documents that are very short (say 200 characters long). However, say there are 1 million documents of such time. What is the most efficient way to perform this search?. I was thinking of tokenizing each document and putting the words in hashtable with words as key and document number as value, there by creating a bag of words. Then perform the word search and retrieve the list of documents that contained this word. From what I can see is this operation will take O(n) operations. Is there any other way? may be without using hash-tables?. Also, is there a python library or third party package that can perform efficient searches?

• Updateable Priority Queue

  Is there anything built into the C++ Standard Library that allows me to work in a priority queue/heap like data structure (i.e., can always pop the highest value from the list, can define how the highest value is determined for custom classes, etc.) but allows me to update the keys in the heap? I'm dealing with fairly simple data, pairs to be exact, but I need to be able to update the value of a given key within the heap easily for my algorithm to function. WHat is the best way to achieve this in C++?

• How can I combine multiple iPhone applications in to one application?

  At the moment I have 2 completed iPhone applications. Both these applications must be contained in to one application. I can't have multiple apps on the app store and to avoid confusion among people using these apps I must have them contained to a single application that gives the user the capability to launch any application in the wrapper. How can I go about doing this. Some of the ideas that crossed my mind are: Building a Framework, or building a library. But Im not even sure if I'm heading in the right direction.

  The project is hosted on a tfs server and I need to access the build number which I assume is automatically generated when ever you build a project. I need to retrieve that build number and display it on the web pages so that QAs and testing people know exactly which build they are working on. I found how to create customize build numbers in the following link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa395241(v=vs.100).aspx but it dose not solve my problem as I do not have access to the build definition file. I am looking for some kind of post deployment task which can access the build number or may be generate one and probably write it down to a file, from where I can read it. I don't know if that makes any sense as this is my first time working on .Net

• how to create a plot with customized points in R?

  I know I can create a plot with line and dots using the type = "o" argument in the plot command. I would like some more control over this -- I want to be able to draw the "o" as full dots, with black border and fill-in color of my choice, of customized size and of a different color than the line. Same for the line, I want to make it thicker, and of my choice of color. How would I go on about doing that? What I found until now is just a plain plot(y, type= "o") which is too poor for my needs. I am not interested in using ggplot, but instead use the internal plot library of R. Any help appreciated.

• Creating folders and uploading a file without using a web browser

  I am using the Java Api We have a web application wherein we want our file to be uploaded on an on_click even on some submit button. We don't want the browser to prompt us to enter the username and password to get the access token. Instead, we can provide the username and the password through the code so that we get the access token and the file will be uploaded directly. Right now, OAuth 2 requires that we enter the username and password to be entered through the browser. Reading through the post, I see that we can authenticate for the first time, obtain a refresh token and then keep on refreshing that token periodically. But our application requirements does not allow for this work-flow. Is there any way to automate the process of entering the user credentials using Java code. or Is there any library that will keep the browser away from the process.

  I'm trying to port an application from using HAL to using pure udev. It is written in python and will use the gudev library, though I would love to see examples in any language. I'm able to get all attached video devices (such as cameras) via: import gudev client = gudev.Client(["video4linux"]) for device in client.get_devices(): print device.get_sysfs_attr("name"), device.get_device_name() This prints out something like: USB2.0 UVC WebCam /dev/video0 I am also able to get a list of block devices, but how can I: Tell if it is a CD/DVD drive? Tell if media is currently inserted if the drive supports removable media? Tell what the name/label of the media is (e.g. FUTURAMAS1 for a DVD)?   I have read through the manual page ?poly (which I admit I did not completely comphrehend) and also read the description of the function in book Introduction to Statistical Learning. My current understanding is that a call to poly(horsepower, 2) should be equivalent to writing horsepower + I(horsepower^2). These will yield data which I will then log somewhere (most likely, to an sqlite database). I've been playing around with threading and have gotten it working. However, I don't really like it... What I would like to do is make my blocking functions asynchronous. Something like: def blocking1(callback): while True: callback('first blocking function example') def blocking2(callback): while True: callback('second blocking function example') def log(data): print data blocking1(log) blocking2(log) How can I achieve this in Python? I've seen the standard library comes with asyncore and the big name in this game is Twisted but both of these seem to be used for socket IO. How can I async my non-socket related, blocking functions?

  I'm quite confused with the need of a std::unique_lock when wait a std::conditional_variable. So I look into the library code in VS 2013 and get more confused. This is how std::conditional_variable::wait() implemented: void wait(unique_lock<mutex>& _Lck) { // wait for signal _Cnd_waitX(&_Cnd, &_Lck.mutex()->_Mtx); } Is this some kind of joke? Wrap a mutex in a unique_lock and do nothing but get it back latter? Why not just use mutex in the parameter list?

• Is there any reason I shouldn't do database calls from the destructor?

  I want to create a sort of datamapper library, where you'd do something like this: $users = Users::getTable(); $users->add($newUser1); $users->add($newUser2); Now $users contains 2 user records, but they aren't yet persisted to the database. To be efficient, I'd like to flush them all at once. I would like to have a flush() method to do this (not an issue), but I'd also like for it to happen implicitly when the $users table reference falls out of scope. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this in the destructor?

I want to upgrade the versions to use jQuery out of the box with cakephp 1.3 and get rid of Prototype javascript library. so, any help ? I've already read the migration guide and nothing found yet.

• Python: Matching & Stripping port number from socket data

  Hello, I have data coming in to a python server via a socket. Within this data is the string '<port>80</port>' or which ever port is being used. I wish to extract the port number into a variable. The data coming in is not XML, I just used the tag approach to identifying data for future XML use if needed. I do not wish to use an XML python library, but simply use something like regexp and strings. What would you recommend is the best way to match and strip this data?   I am following this article on creating persistent login cookies with my ASP.NET site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.security.formsauthentication.encrypt.aspx The issue is that when I navigate to the page, I get the following compiler error: Compiler Error Message: CS1061: 'ASP.administration_login_aspx' does not contain a definition for 'Login_Click' and no extension method 'Login_Click' accepting a first argument of type 'ASP.administration_login_aspx' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Can anyone tell me why this is. The error message doesn't really say much and I don't believe I am missing a directive or assembly reference. The code builds without any problems. EDIT: I did not include code because I said I was following that link which includes code. I copy/pasted from the example.

• Converting byte[] of binary fixed point to floating point value?

  I'm reading some data over a socket. The integral data types are no trouble, the System.BitConverter methods are correctly handling the conversion. (So there are no Endian issues to worry about, I think?) However, BitConverter.ToDouble isn't working for the floating point parts of the data...the source specification is a bit low level for me, but talks about a binary fixed point representation with a positive byte offset in the more significant direction and negative byte offset in the less significant direction. Most of the research I've done has been aimed at C++ or a full fixed-point library handling sines and cosines, which sounds like overkill for this problem. Could someone please help me with a C# function to produce a float from 8 bytes of a byte array with, say, a -3 byte offset?

• Advanced Registry Monitoring

  I'm attempting to create a small utility to watch for the creation (or modification) of a specific registry key, and to kill the process responsible for causing that registry modification. I have had success in watching the changes to the registry via a class called 'RegistryMonitor', however it does not give you any information on what process initiated the registry call, through some googling I found that a library called 'EasyHook' should be able to do what I want, but all the documentation states that its designed for a per-application hook. The program itself is a temporary security patch, until our vendors come out with an official security update. As best I can tell there isn't a way to do exactly what I want to accomplish from C#, which is the only language I can comfortable write, test and execute software in. Any help on this would be appreciated I'm considering watching the registry changes via the program I already have, then if the change is discovered (the pc is already infected) running RKill and locking down the PC to prevent the issue from getting any worse

  I have been developing in Snow Leopard (10.6). I believe I have some Java6-only API features and I'd like to find these. I moved my project to Leopard (10.5) -- since Snow Leopard does not support Java 1.5 -- but I am so far unable to make Eclipse give compile errors for a Java API call which I know to have been added in 1.6. Here is what I have done: Project properties - Java Compiler - set everything to 1.5. Preferences - Java - Installed JREs - selected JVM 1.5.0. Project properties - Java Build Path - Libraries - says JRE System Library [JVM 1.5.0] What am I missing? Is there another way to find Java API calls added in 1.6 when using Eclipse in Snow Leopard? • QuickPdf - Memory leak

  I have a method containing code to create a pdf doc using the QuickPdf library. Inside the method, I instantiate a QuickPdf object, create the pdf doc and save it to a file. I then call this method for each file to be generated. Now my problem is that the pdf docs' sizes are increasing with each call to the method even though the contents are basically the same . I am suspecting a memory leak but I cant see where exactly, since the QuickPdf object is being created and disposed each time on each call.

• How expensive is a call to java.util.HashMap.keySet()?

  I implemented a sparse matrix as List<Map<Integer,Double>>. To get all entries of row i I call list.get(i).keySet(). How expensive is this call? I also used the trove library for an alternative implementation as List<TIntDoubleHashMap>. What's the cost of calling list.get(i).keys(), here? Do you have any further ideas of how to implement an efficient sparse matrix? Or can you provide a list of existing implementations in java?
