Select from multiple tables, remove duplicates

I have two tables in a SQLite DB, and both have the following fields: idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login One table has all of these populated, the other doesn't have the idnumber, or middle name populated. I'd LIKE to be able to do something like: select idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login from users1,users2 group by login; But I get an "ambiguous" error. Doing something like: select idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login from users1 union select idnumber, firstname, middlename, lastname, email, login from users2; LOOKS like it works, but I see duplicates. my understanding is that union shouldn't allow duplicates, but maybe they're not real duplicates since the second user table doesn't have all the fields populated (e.g. "20, bob, alan, smith, [email protected], bob" is not the same as "NULL, bob, NULL, smith, [email protected], bob"). Any ideas? What am I missing? All I want to do is dedupe based on "login". Thanks!

multiple redirect??

Ok, i won't go into the full details (too much to explain) but here is what i am trying to do. I have a button on a webpage (we'll call page-1) that links to a page (we'll call it page-2). This page opens in the same window. However, i need the page (page-2) that opens to open up a new window with another page (we'll call this one page-3) when it loads. So virtually when you click the initial button (on page-1) it will go to a new page (page-2) AND a window will open as well with a different page (page-3). This is where it gets tricky. I need page-2 to automatically redirect back to page-1 after it launches page-3. Is this possible and if so, how?? Could it be a JQuery thing? Please just give some answers...i know this is way crazy and a huge workaround - but this is my last resort for this particular website. I have to do it this way because of the lack of control over some of the code.

Hi I find my self in a situation where I have to choose between either creating a new sp in database and create the middle layer code. so loose some precious development time. also the procedure is likely to contain some joins. Or use two existing sp(s), the problem of this approach is that I am doing two round trips to database. which can be poor performance especially if I have database in another server. Which approach you will go?, and why? thanks

IE problem: keyboard interaction with checkbox

I have an HTML table, and each row has a checkbox for selecting or deselecting its row. Whenever a checkbox changes value, I need to add or remove highlighting to the row and also ensure that the page's submit button is only enabled when at least one row is selected and disabled otherwise. However, IE 7 does not handle keyboard interaction well (mouse interaction works fine). The problem is that if a checkbox has the focus and I hit the spacebar, the checkbox doesn't get checked -- instead it gets half checked (it has the same shadowed appearance that it would get immediately after a mousedown). I have to press the spacebar a second time to actually check the box. Similarly, it requires two key presses to uncheck it. Oddly enough, if I hold down the spacebar for a few moments, then a single press works as expected. Can anyone explain what is going on here? Is there something I'm doing wrong in the JavaScript code that is causing this behavior? How can I fix this?

I am completely perplexed. I asked this question and it (any mentioned solution) doesn't seem to be working at all. All I want is to draw a line from one corner to the other. How can I install an Apple Magic Trackpad on a PC without Boot Camp?

I have a Apple Magic Trackpad and I'd like to use it with my PC. I have no other Apple hardware besides the Trackpad. I do not have OSX and thus no Boot Camp CD. The Trackpad uses Bluetooth and will pair with Windows 7 without specific drivers (appears as an HID-Compliant Mouse), but all it will do is point and left click (physical click, no touch tap). With Apple's Windows driver update, I should be able to achieve: Tap to click Dragging Drag lock Secondary click Two-finger scrolling Two-finger secondary tap/click But how can I obtain this driver without Boot Camp installed? Apple's Boot Camp update EXE will not install on my PC (non-Apple hardware).

Cheapest Embedded System with Wireless Connectivity?

Problem: I'm trying to capture some information coming from keyboard, mouse and barcode reader connected to some PC via PS/2, USB and/or RS-232, before information get to PC and send it over the Internet to some central server. I'm thinking to do so by using some kind of hardware interface (middleware, if you like) between PC and input devices. I thought this interface can be embedded PC, PDA or simply some mobile phone with wireless connectivity. PS/2 and RS-232 could be converted to USB using some USB convector/hub that connects to one of these interface systems. Then some special API programming take place to communicate between PC, input devices and wireless server, in the form of application running on the interface system. What's the cheapest solution that can achieve this? Or possibly any other solution?

Horizontally and Vertically Center Modal Div IE Issue

I'm trying to horizontally and vertically center a modal window inside a div. I want it to be cross browser compatible. You can see from the picture below that when I resize IE8 then click, "show modal" button it displays not exactly horizontally centered. This does not seem to be an issue with Chrome. Any thoughts? Creating user control with dock.Full property giving me a problem

Like in one screen has treeview on left side,gridview with paging in the middle and 4 buttons at right side. the controls are properly appears when the form is in maximize state. but if i minimize it the controls are not properly fits in the screen. i tried with different different tricks like table layout.. in dat i added panel...etc.. but i could not solve the problem. How do I use CSS to add a non-rectangular border around an image?

Hello people, I have three images, and they are not square or rectangular in shape. They are just like face of anyone. So, basically, my images are in the size 196x196 or anything like that, but complete square or rectangle with the face in the middle and transperant background in the rest of the portion. Now, I want to remove the transperant background too and just keep the faces. Don't know if this is possible and mind you, this isn't a programming question. EDIT (from comments): How do I put a border around the shape of the image, not a rectangular one around the boundary, using CSS.

Cocoa NSOutlineView and Drag-and-Drop

I recently started another thread without an account, so I'm reposting the question here with an account so I can edit current links to the program so other users can follow this. I have also updated the code below. Here is my original question: I read the other post here on Outlineviews and DND, but I can't get my program to work. At the bottom of this post is a link to a zip of my project. Its very basic with only an outlineview and button. I want it to receive text files being dropped on it, but something is wrong with my code or connections. I tried following Apple's example code of their NSOutline Drag and Drop, but I'm missing something. 1 difference is my program is a document based program and their example isn't. I set the File's Owner to receive delegate actions, since that's where my code to handle drag and drop is, as well as a button action. Combobox drops up in IE 8 and it works correctly in IE 6

Hi, I have a simple select/combo box with 100 options in the middle of a HTML page. When I open it in IE 6 it appears fine dropping down with a few elements displayed and a vertical scroll bar. In IE 8, it opens upward. Looks like it drops down till it reaches edge of browser screen when it has few options and then opens upward for new options added with a vertical scroll bar. Is there a way the select box can be adjusted to appear in IE 8 similar to IE 6? Thanks Ravi

Assume that I have the ItemSource bound and i am getting the data. Now what I want is this. The ItemSource will contain Data that tells where each button should be. Issue Querying LDAP DirectoryEntry in ASP.NET

The code is essentially the same between each method except that in one method rather than pulling from ticket.Name I pull from a session variable for the login I'll be looking up with AD.

asp.net calendar control appears below textfield

I ma using an image button to display an asp.net calendar control (this control comes with VS 2008). However, when I click the image button, the calendar controls is displayed "below" the textfield that it is suppoed to populate. How can I get the control to appear on the right side of the textfield? Wake timers don't wake computer from sleep mode

I'm got a custom built PC running 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. So far everything works great except for one thing: it will not wake up from sleep mode for a wake timer or scheduled task. Sleep mode itself works great. If it's sleeping, it wakes successfully when I press the power button, mash the keyboard, wiggle the mouse, or send a WOL packet. The only problem is wake timers. I even tried the program WakeupOnStandBy but it looks like that uses wake timers, so it doesn't do anything for me either. And yes, wake timers are enabled: Any ideas on how to fix the problem, or troubleshoot it? I'd imagine that there would be a log somewhere telling me exactly why the wake timers are having trouble, but if there is I haven't found it.

Keyboard not detected when trying to install Ubuntu 10.10

I tried to install Ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition on my laptop and unfortunately it didn't detect my keyboard (it detects my mouse) so I couldn't finish installation. Is it something wrong I'm doing? There isn't really much to specify during the installation process and I'm really disappointed that such a trivial task as installation cannot be done without asking a question on a forum. Maybe it's because I'm trying to install it on my laptop? Shall I the download the notebook edition? That sound silly to me.

On the boxes is a fade caption, when the title of the caption is clicked you are brought to an ajax page. Block element, horizontal center aligned and minimum width possible

Hi, I'm trying to have this block element to be horizontally aligned in the middle but at the same time I would like the width to be the minimum possible for the contents inside. But I don't think it's possible or I'm not able to do it myself... a#button-link { background: url("images/button-link.png") no-repeat scroll center left; margin: 12px auto 0 auto; display: block; width: 125px; height: 32px; line-height: 32px; padding-left: 35px; font-weight: bold; } This is my current code... The idea behind this is that the text for that tag could be slightly bigger or smaller depending on the user language and how much characters the same sentence has for that specific user's language. There's no way I can control but I still would like to have this element horizontally aligned to center. Is this possible with CSS?
