• Converting a string to an integer (Android)

  I'm not 100% on how to do this so i'm asking... May seem stupid but... How do I convert a string into an integer? Background info: I have a textbox I have the user enter a number into... it then: EditText et = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.entry1); String hello = et.getText().toString(); gets the string 'hello' Now I want to convert it to a integer so I can get the number they typed in -will be used later on in code... Is there a way to get the edittext to a integer? -That would skip the middle man... If not, string to integer will be just fine... Thanks alot, James

• How to use RelativeLayout to make a custom component on Android

  I'm trying to make a custom component based on buttons without having to deal with all the layout myself. The problem is that i can't find a way to make use of RelativeLayout to draw the thing. This is my latest attempt. • Vista won't boot - just get black screen

  When I boot into Windows Vista (Ultimate), I just get a black screen (with the mouse visible and working). If I run in safe mode, it seems to pause for a while when loading crcdisk.sys. A lot of research says it could be a problem with the hard drive, but I dual boot Ubuntu and that works fine and I can still see and use the Windows partition absolutely fine from Ubuntu. I tried using the "startup repair" option on the Vista install disk but it didn't detect any problems. I have run chkdsk several times, with this: chkdsk C: /f /r And also drive D (the recycle bin). The first two times it detected and fixed errors on the C drive but now it doesn't detect any errors. Is there anything else that could be causing this problem?

Now what I want to achieve is the following. 1) A Porlet containing a form is called within a page via <?php $this->widget('form'); ?> 2) The user fills in this form and clicks on submit "The submit button should be an ajax button" 3) When submit has been pressed the form should call a method within the form portlet class and the form should be replaced with a Thank you message. 4) I only want the current view in the portlet replaced with another view. • Jquery .val() for input only works once.

  I'm trying to create a chat box for my game. The user type's their chat into the input:text feild and by ither pressing Enter or clicking the button submits the chat text. This all works, however for some reason after the first time a user submits a chat message it fails to get the text from the input field. After the second creation and closure of the dialogB the overlay of dialogA disappear. • How to allow the user to select an input file for my SQL AdventureWorks web application?

  I have a SQL and VS 2008 web application that I need to capture the full file path (directories and file name) from the selected file on the client computer. So user selects a file and then clicks on one of the buttons which transfers control to my code for processing. So how do I get its file path? I can get the file name, but not the path. Maybe problem is that while testing this web app, I am using the server instead of client machine. And I learned that on a server you cannot read the full file path due to security concerns. Is this true? If I just want this to work on client machine, which method/class do you recommend? And then how can I test it? My web app allows the user to select an input file and then map columns from the input .MDF file with columns from the selected Adventureworks table. Finally, after they click on the "Append" button, it adds rows from the input file to that table. So I want to capture the path info after they click this button.

• How do I compile Android Browser (or other android-supplied applications)

  I want to add support for Arabic (or other languages which are currently unsupported) to the applications supplied by android platform (e.g. Browser) without having root-access. To add Arabic support (at least displaying only) in a normal application (using developer SDK), I will need to: Add fonts Modify (reshape) the characters to be rendered For illustration, if I have string a aaa, I will need to change a aaa into a bcd because letter a at the beginning, middle, and end of a word need to be changed to b,c and d respectively) But now I want to compile android's Browser (and other apps). I am planning to get the source codes for these applications and their dependencies and bundle them as stand-alone applications which do not require root-access, and thus do not void the warranty. Other solutions which void the warranty can be obtained here. My Questions: Is the application's (e.g. Browser's) source code + 'developer SDK' enough to accomplish this? Do I need to get the source code + the development environment for the android platform? Any tips?

• Memory Leaks when touching UITableViewCells and poping off view.

  Hi All, I'm currently having a problem where the leaks tool is reporting a slew of memory leaks after clicking on cells within a UITableView and then hitting the back button and popping off the view. • Strange scaling when duplicating monitors with another screen

  I can't get two monitors to scale application resolutions the same way. My main monitor works normally. My second monitor however, which is set to duplicate its image onto a TV I have in my room, renders the applications in a far lower resolution than the 1080p I've set it to. Also, the mouse pointer on the second monitor is enormous, it looks 2-3 times bigger than the one on the main monitor. I've checked the "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays", to no avail. Here are some comparison pictures. Metro on the main monitor: Metro on monitor 2 (set to 1080p and to duplicate on a TV): This issue only seem to arise when I duplicate the monitor onto the TV. Does anyone have any idea of how to solve this?

• Windows 7 randomly installs an "Unknown Device"

  Rarely (several days to weeks between occurrences,) and seemingly at random, I get a balloon notification from Windows 7 (x64 SP1 Home Premium) that it is installing hardware for me. However, no new hardware has been installed or plugged in! When I click the balloon it doesn't give me any useful information: Looking in the event log, I find this entry: Event ID: 20001 Source: UserPnp Task Category: 7005 Message: Driver Management concluded the process to install driver FileRepository\usb.inf_amd64_neutral_153b489118ee37b8\usb.inf for Device Instance ID USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\6&3AF9A177&0&0060&&02 with the following status: 0x0. It appears to be USB related. My motherboard has both USB 2.0 and 3.0 controllers. My keyboard and mouse are plugged into the 2.0 slots and the data/recharge cable for a tablet (but not the tablet itself) was plugged in to the 3.0 slot. No other USB devices have been attached for several days/reboots. Why is Windows doing this?

• What is the right approach when using STL container for median calculation?

  Let's say I need to retrieve the median from a sequence of 1000000 random numeric values. If using anything but STL::list, I have no (built-in) way to sort sequence for median calculation. If using STL::list, I can't randomly access values to retrieve middle (median) of sorted sequence. Is it better to implement sorting myself and go with e.g. STL::vector, or is it better to use STL::list and use STL::list::iterator to for-loop-walk to the median value? The latter seems less overheadish, but also feels more ugly.. Or are there more and better alternatives for me?

  Dear all, I have read the Blackberry documentation and it is possible to push a notification from a webapp. I am planning to create a Blackberry application that compliments to our webapps. But I am still left in the middle whether to develop a webapp or native Blackberry app. I have also look at how a webapp runs on Blackberry browser and it looks smooth. From your experience does the native app offer something that the webapp doesn't? Bonus question, is Facebook and Twitter app on Blackberry a native app or a webapp? • ORDER BY giving wrong order

  I have an SQL statement in my C# program that looks like: SELECT * FROM XXX.dbo.XXX WHERE Source = 'OH' AND partnum = '1231202085' ORDER BY partnum, Packaging, Quantity When running this query in SQL Server Management, the results are ordered as expected. My first 3 results have the same partnum and Packaging with Quantities of 32.0, 50.8, and 51.0. However, when I run the query from my program, the result set with quantity 50.8 is the first to be returned. The datatype of Quantity is decimal(18,9). I've tried cast, it doesn't appear to be a datatype problem. I cant figure out why its getting the middle quantity.

  Hi, I would like to do something similar what we do in ASP.NET where we parse through all the rows in a GridView and assign a particular value to a particular cell in a row which has a matching TaskId as the current Id. This has to happen in a Tick function of a Dispatcher Timer object. Since I have a Start Timer button Column for every row in a GridView. Upon a particular row's Start Timer Button click, I have to start its timer and display in a cell in that row. Similarly there can be multiple timers running in parallel. For this I need to be able to check the task Id of the particular task and keep updating the cell values with the updated time in all of the tasks that have a Timer Started.   In Dos we can input the first several characters to filter command history and find proper one rapidly. But how to do the same thing in Linux ? for example when I am testing a local server: cd sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd start wget ... ls emacs ... sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd restart sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd stop ... In Dos you can easily type sudo and switch among the three commands beginning with it using arrow keys. But in Linux, is below command the best we can do ? historty | grep sudo I don't like it, because history can easily become a mess, and it also need mouse action.

• Android - Lifecycle and saving an Instance State questions

  So within my application is a form for creating a new user, with relevant details and information about the user. There's no problems there, it's just what happens when the user leaves the activity without pressing the confirm button. Here's what I want to do: If the user presses the back button, attempt to save all the data to the database and inform the user. If the activity is interrupted (ie by a phone call), save all the data into a temporary location so when the activity is at the top of the stack again, nothing appears to have changed (but the data still hasn't yet been saved to the database). If the activity gets killed for more resources when in the background, do the same as point 2 above (ie when the activity is started again, it appears that nothing has changed). If the whole application is started again (by clicking on the icon again) and there is temporary data stored from either points 2 or 3 above, navigate to the "create user" activity and display data as if nothings changed. Here's how I'm currently trying to do it: Use onDestroy() and isFinishing() functions to find when the activity is being killed, to cover point 1 above (to then try and save all data). Save all data with onSaveInstanceState into a bundle (to cover point 2 above) Does the bundle created with onSaveInstanceState survive the activity being killed for more resources, so when its recreated the previous state can be retrieved (as in point 3 above)? No idea how to implement point 4. Any help would be massively appreciated. Cheers!

• Can I print an HTMLLoader (pdf) in Adobe Air?

  I'm using AlivePDF to create a PDF file, then save it to the desktop. I can then use an HTMLLoader to display my lovely PDF file. Now, the print button in Adobe Reader works fine. However, there will be young children using the app, so I'd like to have a big "Print" button right above it. I figured I could just start up a print job and feed it my HTMLLoader. Am I doing something wrong here, cause I can't seem to get any output? note: variable "stuff" below is my HTMLLoader. • Can I print an HTMLLoader (pdf) in Adobe Air?

  I'm using AlivePDF to create a PDF file, then save it to the desktop. I can then use an HTMLLoader to display my lovely PDF file. Now, the print button in Adobe Reader works fine. However, there will be young children using the app, so I'd like to have a big "Print" button right above it. I figured I could just start up a print job and feed it my HTMLLoader. Am I doing something wrong here, cause I can't seem to get any output? note: variable "stuff" below is my HTMLLoader.
