    I like very much global menu in previous versions of Ubuntu. But Unity is too slow for my Eee PC. So now I am looking for some alternative Desktop Environments or Distributions where there is global menu available. But at the same time there should be UbuntuOne service working too, as I use it pretty often. Could you, please, suggest what should I try out? I also use keyboard shortcuts very much and so I guess they should be configurable, and try not to use touchpad at all. So big icons like in gnome-shell and Unity are not a good option.

  • How do I get Paypal or a merchant account for a marketplace style web site?

    I'm having trouble getting approved for a merchant account for my website. Basically I have expert users and users. Expert users provide a service through my website which they set their own rates. Users purchase the services, then pay me, I give 90% to the expert users. I have been told this is factoring.. Is the way around this, a system like freelancer.com does? Where users deposit money into their freelancer account, then pay for the services they won? What are the negatives to this system? What about sites like 99designs? They accept CC payments and then pay the winning designer. How are some sites doing this but I'm having so much trouble getting approved?

  • Application qos involving priority and bandwidth

    Our manager wants us to do applicaiton qos which is quite different from the well-known system qos. We have many services of three types, they have priorites, the manager wants to suspend low priority services requests when there are not enough bandwidth for high priority services. But if the high priority services requests decrease, the bandwidth for low priority services should increase and low priority service requests are allowed again. There should be an algorithm involving priority and bandwidth. I don't know how to design the algorithm, is there any example on the internet? Somebody can give suggestion? Thanks. UPDATE All these services are within a same process. We are setting the maximum bandwidth for the three types of services via ports of services via TC (TC is the linux qos tool whose name means traffic control).

  • Printer State: Idle - /usr/lib/cups/backend/dnssd failed

    A printer was installed and worked but does not now. A job is successfully submitted, but keeps waiting there for printing (as seen from lpq command). Ping to printer works fine. (The printer is on and works as it prints from Windows.) But on the Printer Property, it shows Printer State: Idle - /usr/lib/cups/backend/dnssd failed. The following command does not help either. sudo service avahi-daemon restart Does any one has a solution? Thank you for help.

  • Is there a way to check if redistributed code has been altered?

    I would like to redistribute my app (PHP) in a way that the user gets the front end (presentation) layer which is using the API on my server through a web service. I want the user to be able to alter his part of the app but at the same time exclude such altered app from the normal support and offer support on pay by the hour basis. Is there a way to check if the source code was altered? Only solution I can think of would be to get check sums of all the files then send it through my API and compare them with the original app. Is there any more secure way to do it so it would be harder for the user to break such protection?

  • No databases showing in phpMyAdmin

    My website is hosted in shared hosting service and is working fine with updated news stored in MySQL database. To manage the database of website, I install phpMyAdmin in a sub-folder with the same username and password used in website. When I login to phpMyAdmin, I don't see my database. phpMyAdmin is showing "No databases" in left pane. Is there any thing I need to configure in phpMyAdmin?   • 81% of European Shoppers Willing to Pay More for Better Customer Experience

    Customer Experience provides strategic driver for business growth Research released today from Oracle has revealed that customer experience is now a key driver for revenue growth in Europe, and an effective channel for brand differentiation in a globalized economy where products and services are increasingly commoditized. The research report, “Why Customer Satisfaction is No Longer Good Enough,” reveals that 81% of consumers surveyed are willing to pay more for superior customer experience. With nearly half (44%) willing to pay a premium of more than 5%. Improvement of the overall customer experience (40%), providing quick access to information and making it easier for customers to ask questions (35%) were cited as key drivers for spending more with a brand. The pan-European research, carried out in June 2012 by independent research company Loudhouse, surveyed 1400 online shoppers (50% female, 50% male) who had made a complaint or enquiry to a customer service department in the last 12 months.   • Jquery website is not opening in UBUNTU but in XP, Everything is fine

    I know it is weird, But I just discovered this, jquery.com is not opening in my ubuntu firefox or other KDE browser and hence many sites that copy codes from code.jquery.com also hanged. Is there any solution to this problem. I have found the problem It is actually with the DNS servers I am using, Google DNS, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, whenever I use these DNS in ubuntu my system stop responding to some sites, actually they are connected nicely, but the request end up in waiting.. I dont understand why...??? I checked my DNS with cat /etc/resolv.conf Even after using Google DNS, it is showing DNS servers I received automatically after connecting to the service provider. I am connecting using Network Manager, not using DNS I provided but using the default one. Any Solution??

  • Is there a ways to see granular per-visit data in Google Analytics?

    I've started using Google Analytics very recently and I'm a bit lost with the sea of options (have been using Sitemeter before for some time). I've clicked through the service a lot but couldn't find what I'm accustomed to. I can see multitude of aggregated statistics in GA like: charts of browser share lists of country share lists of most visited URLs within the page and so on, but I would actually like to analyze each of the visits themselves. Something like: User X, France, Chrome, 7 pageviews between 18:01 and 18:15, entered on a.htm and exited on b.htm User Y, UK, Firefox, 1 pageview at 18:20, entered on c.htm Is there an easy way to see the reports in this way (perhaps by clicking a link to a separate page to see that particular session's stats)? How to navigate there if so?

  • Google Bot trying to access my web app's sitemap

    Interesting find today...   I was perusing the event log on our web server today for any unexpected ASP.NET exceptions/errors. Found the following:   Exception information: Exception type: HttpException Exception message: Path '/builder/builder.sitemap' is forbidden. Request information: Request URL: https://www.bondwave.com:443/builder/builder.sitemap Request path: /builder/builder.sitemap User host address: 66.249.71.247 User: Is authenticated: False Authentication Type: Thread account name: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE   At first I thought this was maybe an attempt by a hacker to mess with the sitemap. Using a handy web site (www.network-tools.com) I did a lookup on the IP address and found it was a Google bot trying to crawl the application. In this case, I would expect an exception or 403 since the site requires authentication anyway.
