  • Why can't I Bind a viewmodel property to a dependency property of a custom control

    - by Robert
I want to use a color picker in my wpf application and I saw a nice looking one on this codeproject page. The control works fine until I want to connect the control to a viewmodel. I created a small test program with this viewmodel: public class ColorViewModel : ViewModelBase { public ColorViewModel() { LineColor = Brushes.Yellow; } SolidColorBrush _brushColor; public SolidColorBrush LineColor { get { return _brushColor; } set { _brushColor = value; RaisePropertyChanged(() => LineColor); } } } The test program has a textbox and the colorpicker controls: <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="Please Select a Color" FontWeight="Bold" Margin="10" Foreground="{Binding Path=LineColor, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}"/> <vw:ColorPickerControlView x:Name="ForeColorPicker" Margin="10" CurrentColor="{Binding Path=LineColor, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged }"/> </StackPanel> In the loaded event of the window I set the viewmodel to the datacontext like this: DataContext = new ColorViewModel(); The problem is that I can't seem to bind the LineColor property of the viewmodel to the CurrentColor property of the ColorPickerControlView. The CurrentControl property of the ColorPickerControlView seems to be fine. The constructor looks like this: public ColorPickerControlView() { this.DataContext = this; InitializeComponent(); CommandBindings.Add(new CommandBinding(SelectColorCommand, SelectColorCommandExecute)); } In the constructor of the UserControl there is the line this.DataContext = this; I read that is is necessary to bind the dependency properties. Do I override this line when I set my viewmodel to the datacontext and is that why I can't bind to the CurrentColor property? Is there any workaround? Or did I make another mistake?

  • Packaging Android resource files within a distributable Jar file

    - by Jeff Gilfelt
I am working on some reusable Android code that I would like to distribute to other developers for use within their own applications. The code has some resource dependencies (layouts, xml & png drawables) that I would like to be able to include and reference within a single package (Jar file). Is this possible, and if so what is the best method to do this?

  • dates and times in emacs lisp

    - by Stephen
Hi, I understand emacs lisp is great for handling dates and times, but does it have a function to convert strings to internal representation of integers using formats like %Y, %m, %d, %H, %M, %S, and so on? And also, in the emacs reference manual, it says that times are lists of two or three integers, but is there a more formal specification or description? ~ Thanks ~

  • puzzled with java if else performance

    - by user1906966
I am doing an investigation on a method's performance and finally identified the overhead was caused by the "else" portion of the if else statement. I have written a small program to illustrate the performance difference even when the else portion of the code never gets executed: public class TestIfPerf { public static void main( String[] args ) { boolean condition = true; long time = 0L; int value = 0; // warm up test for( int count=0; count<10000000; count++ ) { if ( condition ) { value = 1 + 2; } else { value = 1 + 3; } } // benchmark if condition only time = System.nanoTime(); for( int count=0; count<10000000; count++ ) { if ( condition ) { value = 1 + 2; } } time = System.nanoTime() - time; System.out.println( "1) performance " + time ); time = System.nanoTime(); // benchmark if else condition for( int count=0; count<10000000; count++ ) { if ( condition ) { value = 1 + 2; } else { value = 1 + 3; } } time = System.nanoTime() - time; System.out.println( "2) performance " + time ); } } and run the test program with java -classpath . -Dmx=800m -Dms=800m TestIfPerf. I performed this on both Mac and Linux Java with 1.6 latest build. Consistently the first benchmark, without the else is much faster than the second benchmark with the else section even though the code is structured such that the else portion is never executed because of the condition. I understand that to some, the difference might not be significant but the relative performance difference is large. I wonder if anyone has any insight to this (or maybe there is something I did incorrectly). Linux benchmark (in nano) performance 1215488 performance 2629531 Mac benchmark (in nano) performance 1667000 performance 4208000

  • Winforms: calling entry form function from a different class

    - by samy
I'm kinda new to programming and got a question on what is a good practice. I created a class that represents a ball and it has a function Jump() that use 2 timers and get the ball up and down. I know that in Winforms you got to call Invalidate() every time you want to repaint the screen, or part of it. I didn't find a good way to do that, so I reference the form in my class, and called Invalidate() inside my ball class every time I need to repaint to ball movement. (this works but I got a feeling that this is not a good practice) Here is the class I created: public class Ball { public Form1 parent;//----> here is the reference to the form public Rectangle ball; Size size; public Point p; Timer timerBallGoUp = new Timer(); Timer timerBallGDown = new Timer(); public int ballY; public Ball(Size _size, Point _p) { size = _size; p = _p; ball = new Rectangle(p, size); } public void Jump() { ballY = p.Y; timerBallGDown.Elapsed += ballGoDown; timerBallGDown.Interval = 50; timerBallGoUp.Elapsed += ballGoUp; timerBallGoUp.Interval = 50; timerBallGoUp.Start(); } private void ballGoUp(object obj,ElapsedEventArgs e) { p.Y++; ball.Location = new Point(ball.Location.X, p.Y); if (p.Y >= ballY + 50) { timerBallGoUp.Stop(); timerBallGDown.Start(); } parent.Invalidate(); // here i call parent.Invalidate() 1 } private void ballGoDown(object obj, ElapsedEventArgs e) { p.Y--; ball.Location = new Point(ball.Location.X, p.Y); if (p.Y <= ballY) { timerBallGDown.Stop(); timerBallGoUp.Start(); } parent.Invalidate(); // here i call parent.Invalidate() 2 } } I'm wondring if there is a better way to do that? (sorry for my english)

  • IE only jQuery bug

jsbin for reference: http://jsbin.com/edago3/5/ When viewed in any other browser, the toggler works as you would expect it to. However, in IE (I'm using 8), you can only contract the currently expanded sub menu, and then you get undesired results once it is closed.

  • What is the "box model?"

    - by Chris
During a recent interview for a front-end developer position I was asked what the box model was. I thought the interviewer was referring to testing (i.e. white box testing, black box testing). I was wrong. What is the box model, in reference to front-end development?

  • Why did this work with Visual C++, but not with gcc?

    - by Carlos Nunez
I've been working on a senior project for the last several months now, and a major sticking point in our team's development process has been dealing wtih rifts between Visual-C++ and gcc. (Yes, I know we all should have had the same development environment.) Things are about finished up at this point, but I ran into a moderate bug just today that had me wondering whether Visual-C++ is easier on newbies (like me) by design. In one of my headers, there is a function that relies on strtok to chop up a string, do some comparisons and return a string with a similar format. It works a little something like the following: int main() { string a, b, c; //Do stuff with a and b. c = get_string(a,b); } string get_string(string a, string b) { const char * a_ch, b_ch; a_ch = strtok(a.c_str(),","); b_ch = strtok(b.c_str(),","); } strtok is infamous for being great at tokenizing, but equally great at destroying the original string to be tokenized. Thus, when I compiled this with gcc and tried to do anything with a or b, I got unexpected behavior, since the separator used was completely removed in the string. Here's an example in case I'm unclear; if I set a = "Jim,Bob,Mary" and b="Grace,Soo,Hyun", they would be defined as a="JimBobMary" and b="GraceSooHyun" instead of staying the same like I wanted. However, when I compiled this under Visual C++, I got back the original strings and the program executed fine. I tried dynamically allocating memory to the strings and copying them the "standard" way, but the only way that worked was using malloc() and free(), which I hear is discouraged in C++. While I'm curious about that, the real question I have is this: Why did the program work when compiled in VC++, but not with gcc? (This is one of many conflicts that I experienced while trying to make the code cross-platform.) Thanks in advance! -Carlos Nunez

  • Measuring execution time of selected loops

    - by user95281
I want to measure the running times of selected loops in a C program so as to see what percentage of the total time for executing the program (on linux) is spent in these loops. I should be able to specify the loops for which the performance should be measured. I have tried out several tools (vtune, hpctoolkit, oprofile) in the last few days and none of them seem to do this. They all find the performance bottlenecks and just show the time for those. Thats because these tools only store the time taken that is above a threshold (~1ms). So if one loop takes lesser time than that then its execution time won't be reported. The basic block counting feature of gprof depends on a feature in older compilers thats not supported now. I could manually write a simple timer using gettimeofday or something like that but for some cases it won't give accurate results. For ex: for (i = 0; i < 1000; ++i) { for (j = 0; j < N; ++j) { //do some work here } } Now here I want to measure the total time spent in the inner loop and I will have to put a call to gettimeofday inside the first loop. So gettimeofday itself will get called a 1000 times which introduces its own overhead and the result will be inaccurate.

  • malloc works, cudaHostAlloc segfaults?

    - by Mikhail
I am new to CUDA and I want to use cudaHostAlloc. I was able to isolate my problem to this following code. Using malloc for host allocation works, using cudaHostAlloc results in a segfault, possibly because the area allocated is invalid? When I dump the pointer in both cases it is not null, so cudaHostAlloc returns something... works in_h = (int*) malloc(length*sizeof(int)); //works for (int i = 0;i<length;i++) in_h[i]=2; doesn't work cudaHostAlloc((void**)&in_h,length*sizeof(int),cudaHostAllocDefault); for (int i = 0;i<length;i++) in_h[i]=2; //segfaults Standalone Code #include <stdio.h> void checkDevice() { cudaDeviceProp info; int deviceName; cudaGetDevice(&deviceName); cudaGetDeviceProperties(&info, deviceName); if (!info.deviceOverlap) { printf("Compute device can't use streams and should be discared."); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } } int main() { checkDevice(); int *in_h; const int length = 10000; cudaHostAlloc((void**)&in_h,length*sizeof(int),cudaHostAllocDefault); printf("segfault comming %d\n",in_h); for (int i = 0;i<length;i++) { in_h[i]=2; } free(in_h); return EXIT_SUCCESS; } ~ Invocation [id129]$ nvcc fun.cu [id129]$ ./a.out segfault comming 327641824 Segmentation fault (core dumped) Details Program is run in interactive mode on a cluster. • Supressing GUI?

  • Is there a tool out there that lets you print a colour chart / palette of colours used on a web page

    - by undefined
I want to print a table of the colours used in a web page that my graphic designer has produced - I have .png files at present and use Fireworks to view them. It would be great if there was a tool that lets you print a table with the colour and hex value so I can easily reference when programming. Anyone come across such a thing? Sounds to me like there should be a firefox extension or similar?

  • Problem with cruise control and visual svn

    - by Andrew
Hi Wonder if anyone can help, I am experiencing a strange issue with my configuration of cruisecontrol.net and visual svn. I am setting the current ccnet.config <sourcecontrol type="svn"> <trunkUrl>https://bladerunner.azullo.local:8443/svn/application/trunk</trunkUrl> <executable>C:\Program Files (x86)\VisualSVN Server\bin\svn.exe</executable> <username>test</username> <password>test</password> <workingDirectory>D:\Development\Build\application\</workingDirectory> </sourcecontrol> <publishers> <xmllogger/> </publishers> <modificationDelaySeconds>10</modificationDelaySeconds> </project> When I run this I expect it to go to https://bladerunner.azullo.local:8443/svn/application/trunk, however i get the following ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.CruiseControlException: Source control operation failed: svn: OPTIONS of 'http://bladerunner.azullo.local:8080/svn/application/trunk': could not connect to server (http://bladerunner.azullo.local:8080) . It goes to the correct url. I dont understand this behaviour. I have configured visual svn with a certificate using Active directory Certificate Services, if this was the problem I would expect it to show an error regarding the certificate instead of changing the url. I have cleared our state etc Any Ideas

  • Thread Message Loop Hangs in Delphi

    - by erikjw
Hello all. I have a simple Delphi program that I'm working on, in which I am attempting to use threading to separate the functionality of the program from its GUI, and to keep the GUI responsive during more lengthy tasks, etc. Basically, I have a 'controller' TThread, and a 'view' TForm. The view knows the controller's handle, which it uses to send the controller messages via PostThreadMessage. I have had no problem in the past using this sort of model for forms which are not the main form, but for some reason, when I attempt to use this model for the main form, the message loop of the thread just quits. Here is my code for the threads message loop: procedure TController.Execute; var Msg : TMsg; begin while not Terminated do begin if (Integer(GetMessage(Msg, hwnd(0), 0, 0)) = -1) then begin Synchronize(Terminate); end; TranslateMessage(Msg); DispatchMessage(Msg); case Msg.message of // ...call different methods based on message end; end; To set up the controller, I do this: Controller := TController.Create(true); // Create suspended Controller.FreeOnTerminate := True; Controller.Resume; For processing the main form's messages, I have tried using both Application.Run and the following loop (immediately after Controller.Resume) while not Application.Terminated do begin Application.ProcessMessages; end; I've run stuck here - any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • how to implement IOC without a global static service?

    - by Michel
Hi, we want to use Unity for IOC. All i've seen is the implementation that there is one global static service which holds a reference to the Unity container, which registers all interface/class combinations and every class asks that object: give me an implementation for Ithis or IThat. Frequently i see a response that this pattern is not good because it leads to a dependency from ALL classes to this service. But what i don't see often, is: what is the alternative way? Michel
