If entry has update, then update the data, if entry is new added, insert to the table then give a new assigned unique ID. However, I can only use SQL with simple select or update statement then it may too hard for me to write such code, then I hope someone with expertise can give direction, no details needed on the different of SQL variant, a standard sql code as sample is enough. • PHP script not automatically updating when moved to another server

  A friend built a ranking system on his site and I am trying to host in on mine via WordPress and Go Daddy. It updates for him but when I load it to my site, it works for 6 hours, but as soon as the reload is supposed to occur, it errors and I get a 500 timeout error. Any idea why this might be happening? Any settings that I might need to change? Here is the top of the index.php file. I'm not sure which part of any of it is messing up. I literally uploaded the same code as him. Ensure PC is set to automatically adjust clock for daylight savings time. • How can I print text fields at the right coordinates?

  I don't have any background in programming and this is my first shot. I wrote a Delphi program that is supposed to print on a result sheet. I work in an institute and we have to establish hundreds of result sheets every 2 months. It's really difficult to do that and different handwriting is also an important issue.   I am trying to associate Contacts with Classes but as two different types. Current_classes and Interested_classes. I know I need to enable polymorphic but I am not sure as to where it needs to be enabled. • SVN supports historical merges so how is Mercurial better?

  Hi, I'm a long time SVN user and have been hearing a lot of brou ha ha with regard to mercurial and decentralised version control systems in general. The main touted feature that I am aware of is that merging in Mercurial is much easier because it records information for each merge so each successive merge is aware of the previous ones. Now as stated in the red book, in the section to do with merging, SVN already supports this with mergeinfo. Now I have not actually used this feature (although I wanted to, our repo version wasn't recent enough) but is this SVN feature particularly different to what Mercurial offers? For anyone who is not aware the suggested work flow for historical merging in svn is this: branch from the development trunk to do your own thing. Regularly merge changes from trunk into your branch to stay up to date. Merge back when your done with the mergeinfo to smooth the process. Without historical data merging this is a nightmare because the comparison is strictly on the differences in the files and does not take into account the steps taken on the way. So each change in the development trunk puts you further into possible conflict when you merge back. Now what I would like to know is: Does merging using Mercurial provide a significant advantage when compared with mergeinfo in SVN or is this just a lot of hot air about nothing? Has anyone used the mergeinfo feature in SVN and how good is it actually in practice?

• Log4net RollingFileAppender doesn't roll over anymore after a couple of weeks

  Hello, I'm using log4net (v1.2.9.0) in a web project. Everything works like a charm, but after a couple of weeks the RollingFileAppender stops to roll over. Instead every log message is appended to the same file which therefore has a giant size by now. • Looking for fast, minimal, preferrably free disc cloning software [closed]

  We have to test our application installation and functionality on many Windows operating system versions and languages (XP, Vista, Win7; English, Spanish, Portuguese, etc; 32-bit & b4-bit.) While we can do much of this in virtual machines, we have noticed that VM's sometimes hide problems, or raise false bugs. So, we need to do "bare metal" OS installation for much of our testing. I have been using Acronis True Image for the past year, and am not impressed. It often gives random errors which require a reboot, and is really slow. For example, when trying to restore an image, it goes through a "Locking partition" cycle about three times (once after you click OK on each step of the wizard), each of which can take 5 minutes to complete. This all happens BEFORE it actually starts the image copy, which is sometimes quick (3-5 minutes), sometimes long (hours). The size of all of our images are roughly the same, so that is not related. So, anyway, I'm looking to switch to something else: I only need very basic functionality--just creating images of entire discs, and then restoring those images onto the exact same hard drive at a later date. That's it. I'm not opposed to paying for a good piece of software, but if there is something free out there that does the job well, that would be a preference. My OS on which the imaging software would run is Windows Vista, but a bootable media (into a Linux flavor) would be fine also, as long as its quick to use and reliable. Recommendations? (Also, moderators, if this should be a CW, I'll be happy to mark it as such; unclear about the rules there.)

• Using Facebook Login to create a user?

  I've read this SO post which led me to this FB policy page, which seemed to include some pertinent information, but I'd like more of a community response, maybe some experienced FB API people who know the limits. My question is if I can use Facebook's Login api to, essentially, create a new user on my website. I really would just like to allow users to easily "transfer" some data from FB in order to more easily create a new account on my site. I realize, first and foremost, that I would obviously announce to the user that by click "submit" in the form, that they are creating a separate account on my site. Pertinent blocks on the policy page state: You may cache data you receive through use of the Facebook API in order to improve your application’s user experience, but you should try to keep the data up to date. This permission does not give you any rights to such data. Which doesn't look good for me, but also this: If you stop using Platform or we disable your application, you must delete all data you have received through use of the Facebook API unless: (a) it is basic account information; or (b) you have received explicit consent from the user to retain their data. Which, in my case, I would be satisfying part B. I would be asking the user's permission to retain the data, as I am simply using Facebook as a conveience to the user when creating an account. I also realize that Facebook has a registration API, but this would require a Facebook styled login form, along with my own sites login form, and I'd rather one interface, as this makes it easier for me on the front and back end. Any thoughts?

• If Then Else Statement Condition Being Ignored?

  I think im going mad but can some show me what im missing, it must be some stupidly simple i just cant see the wood for the trees. BOTH side of this if then else statement are being executed? Ive tried commenting out the true side and moving the condition to a seperate variable with the same result. However if i explicitly set the condition to 1=0 or 1=1 then the if then statement is operating as i would expect. i.e. only executing one side of the equation... The only time ive seen this sort of thing is when the compiler has crashed and is no longer compiling (without visible indication that its not) but ive restarted studio with the same results, ive cleaned the solution, built and rebuilt with no change? please show me the stupid mistake im making using vs2005 if it matters. • jQuery "growl-like" effect in VB.net

  Hey all, i have made a simple form that mimiks the jQuery "GROWL" effect seen here http://www.sandbox.timbenniks.com/projects/jquery-notice/ However, i have ran into a problem. If i have more than one call to the form to display a "Growl" then it just refreshes the same form with whatever call i send it. In other words, i can only display one form at a time instead of having one drop down and a new one appear above it. • PHP: Profiling code and strict environment ~ Improving my coding

  I would like to update my local working environment to be stricter in an effort to improve my code. I know that my code is okay, but as with most things there is always room for improvement. I use XAMPP on my local machine, for simplicities sake Apache Friends XAMPP (Basic Package) version 1.7.2 So I've updated my php.ini : error_reporting to be E_ALL | E_STRICT to help with the code standard. I've also enabled the XDebug extension zend_extension = "C:\xampp\php\ext\php_xdebug.dll" which seems to be working, having tested some broken code and got the nice standard orange error notice. However, having read this question, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/133686/what-is-the-best-way-to-profile-php-code and enabled the profiler, I cannot seem to create a cachegrind file. Many of the guides that I've looked at seem to think you need to install XDebug in XAMPP which leads me to think they are out of date, as XDebug is bundled with XAMPP these days. So I would appreciate it if anyone can help point me in the right direction with both configuring XDebug to output grind files, and or just a great set of default settings for the XDebug config in XAMPP. Seems there is very little documentation to go on. If people have tips on integrating these tools with Netbeans, that would be awesomesauce. I'm happy to get suggestions on other things that I can do to help tighten up my php code, both syntactically and performance wise Thanks, and apologies for the rambling question(s)! Ninja edit I should menion that I'm using named vhosts as my Apache configuration, which I think is why running XDebug on port 9000 isn't working for me. • De-normalization alternative to specific MYSQL problem?

  I am facing quite a specific optimization problem. I currently have 4 normalized tables of data. Every second, possibly thousands of users will pull down up-to-date info from these tables using AJAX. The thing is that I can predict relatively easily which subset of data they need... The most recent 100 or so entries in those 4 normalized tables. I have been researching de-normalization... but feel that perhaps there is an easier solution. I was thinking that I could somehow every second run one sql query to condense the needed info, store it in a temp cached table and then have all of the user queries just draw from this. This will allow the complex join of 4 tables to only be run once, and then from there the users just need to do a simple lookup from the cached table. I really don't know if this is feasible. Comments on this or any other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  Hi, There is a time represented in MJD and BCD format with 5 bytes .I am wondering what is the recommended format to save this date-time in the sqlite database so that user can search against it ? My first attempt is to save it just as it is, that is a 5 bytes string. The user will use the same format to search and the result will be converted to unix time by the user with following code. However, later, I was suggested to save the time in the integer - the UTC time, for example. But I can not find a standard way to do the conversion. • Server side form validation and POST data

  Hi, I have a user input form here: http://www.7bks.com/create (Google login required) When you first create a list you are asked to create a public username. Unfortuantely currently there is no constraint to make this unique. I'm working on the code to enforce unique usernames at the moment and would like to know the best way to do it. Tech details: appengine, python, webapp framework What I'm planning is something like this: first the /create form posts the data to /inputlist/ (this is the same as currently happens) /inputlist/ queries the datastore for the given username. If it already exists then redirect back to /create display the /create page with all the info previously but with an additional error message of "this username is already taken" My question is: Is this the best way of handling server side validation? What's the best way of storing the list details while I verify and modify the username? As I see it I have 3 options to store the list details but I'm not sure which is "best": Store the list details in the session cookie (I am using GAEsessions for cookies) Define a separate POST class for /create and post the list data back from /inputlist/ to the /create page (currently /create only has a GET class) Store the list in the datastore, even though the username is non-unique. Thank you very much for your help :) I'm pretty new to python and coding in general so if I've missed something obvious my apologies.
