  Hi, I need some help with vocabulary, I don't use Oracle that often but I am familiar with MySQL and MSSQL. I have an application I need to upgrade and migrate, and part of the procedure to do that involves exporting to an XML, create new database tables, then populate the new database tables from the XML export. In Oracle, my database connection specifies a username, password, and an SID. This SID contains tables belonging to several applications. My question is: Can I re-use the same user to create the new tables ( with the same names ). In MySQL or MSSQL, I would create a new database and grant my user privileges to create tables in it. OR, do I need to create a new database user for my upgraded tables?

• Connecting to Python XML RPC from the Mac

  Hi, I wrote an XML RPC server in python and a simple Test Client for it in python. The Server runs on a linux box. I tested it by running the python client on the same linux machine and it works. I then tried to run the python client on a Mac and i get the following error socket.error: (61, 'Connection Refused') I can ping and ssh into the linux machine from the Mac. So i dont think its a configuration or firewall error. Does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong? • Navigate touch-tone menus via modem

  I have a system that I need to programmatically interface with that requires a set of numbers to be dialed after the phone line is picked up, like a standard automated phone answering system. For instance, dial the number 123-456-7890, wait for the line to be answered, wait 15 seconds for the voice prompt, dial 1234#, hang up. The question is, can I and how do I do that through a modem? I know how to dial a number through a modem, it's simply ATDT[phone number], but that will attempt to initiate a data connection which will not allow touch-tone number entry. Would a voice modem provide the necessary capability? If so, could anyone provide example commands to accomplish this?

For this test, this is the only thing in my emacs-config: (setq tramp-default-method "plink") Then I connect to my Ubuntu Server 9.10 running in a VM on my local network. Connection goes fine, i can use dired to browse folders and open files. Yay! However, git status shows up as: Git:master^M An when i open speedbar all folders and files ends with ^M, ie: <+ conf/^M Does anyone know how to prevent this line-ending collision from occurring?

  The idea is to allow to peer processes to exchange messages (packets) over tcp as much asynchronously as possible. The way I'd like it to work is each process to have an outbox and an inbox. The send operation is just a push on the outbox. The receive operation is just a pop on the inbox. Underlying protocol would take care of the communication details. Is there a way to implement such mechanism using a single TCP connection? How would that be implemented using BSD sockets and modern OO Socket APIs (like Java or C# socket API)?

• ShoutCast over SSL

  So I've gone ahead and set up my ShoutCast server DNAS and set my DSP in Winamp on my host computer. The server listens on port 8000, so per some instructions I installed an output plugin for winamp (Shoutcast DSP) and used 8000 and the password to connect. Server accepts the connection. Now, what the heck do I do now? My host computer is SSL secured and the DNAS server is installed within the secure web directory (if that matters). My desired end result is that I want to listen to my ShoutCast setup at home (host computer) from any computer. I try browsing to my ip address and port 8000 (without using HTTPS) and it comes back with nothing. If I browse with HTTPS://my.server.com:8000, I get Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long) Have I completely missed something, or am I just a total moron? Thanks.

• weird characters displayed during serial communication OSX

  I have tried communicating via serial (OSX w/ prolific drivers - USB RS232 adapter - Tx,Rx and GND pins on device serial ttl port) to a device and done so successfully using screen /dev/tty.usbserial 115200 8N1 I get to log in and use it as if I was SSH or TelNetted in... However whenever I try to go into system recovery mode (holding CTRL+1) while the device is powering on, it starts displaying weird characters and until I close the screen session it will continue showing weird characters: Of course when we tried doing the same thing on my boss' macbook running windows and PuTTY and everything worked fine, even in system recovery mode; characters were displayed properly. What gives? Id like to learn the intuition to use because up till now I concluded that since I can bot into the system and see characters normally everything about the connection should be fine and its must have been the recovery partition that was broken. For that i established connection to that remote server, and i can now see that database . but when i tried to restore database fro my local machine i'm getting an error message when i tried to give backup file location. Below is the error message The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'xp_availablemedia', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. The user does not have permission to perform this action. The statement has been terminated. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229) waht is the problem, how can i solve this. Please help me

I want to step through the resultset row by row without having it fetch all 15 GB into memory at once. I know there were issues with this sort of thing in Npgsql 1.x but I'm on 2.0. This is against a PostgreSQL 8.3 database on XP/Vista/7. I also don't have any funky "force Npgsql to prefetch" stuff in my connection string. I'm at a complete loss for why this is happening.

All examples i could google always generate the key themselves, but I already have a key. I have tried keytool -import -keystore ./broker.ks -file mycert.crt but this only imports the certificate and not the key file and results in 2009-05-25 13:16:24,270 [localhost:61612] ERROR TransportConnector - Could not accept connection : No available certificate or key corresponds to the SSL cipher suites which are enabled. I have tried concatenating the cert and the key but got the same result How do I import the key?

I attempt to connect with this line of code: $db_server = mysql_connect($db_hostname, $db_username, $db_password); I get this error: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'www-data'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /var/www/hosts/dj/connect.php on line 3 unable to connect to database: Access denied for user 'www-data'@'localhost' (using password: YES) I can only guess what is happening here: I think www-data is a username for apache. Upon the database connection, the credentials being passed in to mysql are not those of my database user, but rather apache's own credentials. Is that what is happening here? How do I pass in the credentials I've defined for my user ?

  Hi, I am trying to use an Entity Framework Model (in separate project) into an asp.net 4 MVC project (VS2010, C#) If I create the EF inside the MVC project I have no problems. I think I am missing some step. things done: 1. added reference to the EF class project 2. added connection string in MVC web.config 3. added reference to System.Data.Entity in both web.config and project references Now i can use the model only if I copy the .edmx file to the Models folder, but in this way the EF project is not external anymore.   Observer pattern? Where do i get examples of this in Java (i know google but was hoping for some personal insight also.) On to a proper explanation of my issue: i have 3 forms/windows. "board" is the main form that loads as the application. "chat" is where the text chat takes place. "network" is where network connection is established. i have the game (connect4) working locally and i would like to implement a networked version of it also. my idea is maybe it is related to Observer pattern to have a thread (or something) monitoring network state during runtime and update the chat and board forms of the current network status as well as delivering received data from the network. are my ideas valid? or how should i go about establishing network and network status updates throughout the application? thank you for your input.

• Apache is running but there is no page displayed

  I am on a Mac OSX and I am using the built in PHP and Apache2. I have been setting up MySQL and finally when I got MySQL working my local site won't display. Do note that I did have the web server running and delivering PHP enabled pages, just no database connection. But my question is not about MySQL. I have changed various settings in the 'http.conf' file, and I have the line: '127.0.0.1 localhost' in my hosts file. I also have other alias' pointing to 127.0.0.1. I have checked everything I could about Apache and I have made sure that any message in the error_log is ok. I currently have my errorLevel set to debug, so I get all the messages. At this point (HOURS of self fixing) I think I need help. What can I provide for someone to figure this out with me. Thanks.

  I have the following problem - a third party software is setting a cookie with the login credentials and then forward the user to my app. I now need to retrieve the cookie values: The problem is - I can do this easily in the Frontend/AS3 with var ticket : String = CookieUtil.getCookie( 'ticket' ).toString(); but in PHP, the cookie is not within the $_COOKIES array. The cookie values are: Name: ticket Domain: .www.myserver.com Path : / Send for: encrypted connections only Expires: at end of session The one I see, and set before in PHP is: Name: myCookie Host: www.myserver.com Path : / Send for: any type of connection Expires: at end of session Actually, since host/domain are both the same, it should be visible in the PHP script, since it is running on this domain.   Seems like I'm missing something simple, but my attempts to connect to SQL Server Express have failed. I feel like I need to add privileges for my account but I'm not sure where to do it. Dev Env: VS 2010 (Web) SQL: Sql Server Express 2008 OS: XP Trying to open a connection to database returns: Cannot open database "|DataDirectory|DropData.mdf" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'devel.' I created the database using the interface in VS 2010 (Add new item - DB File) but my ASP.Net class only covered design-time access and not access in code, so I'm not familiar with what to do. I created a user (Devel) using SQL Server Management Studio to avoid connecting as SA, but couldn't figure out how to give any SQL-level access rights to this account. Any ideas? Thanks, Cameron

  i have a java game app that uses sockets to communicate with each other. the issue is when i do a socket listen (server), i can run another instance of the game on the same machine using the same port as before to listen, and it results in listening again. now i have two instances of the application both listening on the same port. you can imagine only one connects when a connection comes through. the question is: how do i prevent the app from listening on the same port as another instance is already listening to? thanks in advance. • Machine Learning Algorithm for Peer-to-Peer Nodes

  I want to apply machine learning to a classification problem in a parallel environment. Several independent nodes, each with multiple on/off sensors, can communicate their sensor data with the goal of classifying an event as defined by a heuristic, training data or both. Each peer will be measuring the same data from their unique perspective and will attempt to classify the result while taking into account that any neighbouring node (or its sensors or just the connection to the node) could be faulty. Nodes should function as equal peers and determine the most likely classification by communicating their results. Ultimately each node should make a decision based on their own sensor data and their peers' data. If it matters, false positives are OK for certain classifications (albeit undesirable) but false negatives would be totally unacceptable. Given that each final classification will receive good or bad feedback, what would be an appropriate machine learning algorithm to approach this problem with if the nodes could communicate with each other to determine the most likely classification?
