• How to use multiple DisplayName attribute using Entity Framework and ASP.Net Mvc 2

  Depending on where I use my Class, I want to be able to show a different DisplayName. I have the following class: [MetadataType(typeof(PortalMetaData))] [System.Web.Mvc.Bind(Exclude = "PortalId")] public partial class Portal { public Portal() { this.Created = DateTime.Now; } } public class PortalMetaData { [Required(ErrorMessage = "Portal name is required")] [StringLength(50, ErrorMessage = "Portal name must be under 50 characters")] public object PortalName { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage = "Description is required")] public object Description { get; set; } } I have a corresponding Table in the database Portal I use the Portal table with a PortalController for the Site Admin to update the records in the Portal Table. I want another user with a different Role (AsstAdmin) to be able to update this table as well. To facilitate that I am thinking of creating a separate partial class that somehow links back to the Portal Model. This would allow me to display limited Fields for update by the AsstAdmin and I can display a different name for the Field as well. How can I accomplish this task? If I add the following class which inherits from Portal than I get an exception: Unable to cast object of type 'Project1.Mvc.Models.Portal' to type 'Prpject1.Mvc.Models.Site'. • Silverlight 4 with WCF RIA architecture applying DDD

  Hello, In my ASP.NET MVC applications I use DDD and it works very well. I'm new to Silverlight development and would like to know how could I apply DDD to build a new architecture. I had a look on WCF RIA Services and what is exposed by default it's the simple CRUD methods. I would like to use MVVM pattern. I thought about general architecture and don't know if what I'm thinking about make sense in Silverlight development. I thought about creating Domain Model on the top of SVC. I would than expose by WCF RIA some operation that deals with aggreates in my Domain Model instead of simple CRUD. What I would aloso expose is the ViewModel entieties that could be used by the view. I don't know if it's make sense, if I'm going in a good direction or if applying DDD in Silverlight 4 development is a good practice. I didn't find much informations on Internet. I'll appreciate if you could point me to some interesting links or if you can give me some hints. Thanks for your help.

• JQgrid - Get Row Number instead of ID

  Hello, all, I am creating a JQGrid from a database table that does not contain a single field primary key. Therefore, the field i am supplying as id is not unique and the same one exists in several rows. Because of this, when passing a reference to the data with ondblClickRow to a function external to the grid i need to use the rownumber and not the id. To test, I'm using ondblClickRow: function(id){alert($("#grid1").getInd('rowid'));}, , and i should be getting and alert with the row number, except that it isn't working. I've been over the documentation and can't understand what i am doing wrong... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Mario. • git pull gives error: 401 Authorization Required while accessing https://git.foo.com/bar.git

  My macbook pro is able to clone/push/pull from the company git server. My cent 6.3 vm gets a 401 error git clone https://git.acme.com/git/torque-setup "error: The requested URL returned error: 401 Authorization Required while accessing https://git.acme.com/git/torque-setup/info/refs As a work around, I've tried creating a folder, with an empty repository, then setting the remote to the company server. I get the same error when trying a git pull The remotes are identical between the machines MacBook Pro (working) git --version git version 1.7.10.2 (Apple Git-33) git remote -v origin https://git.acme.com/git/torque-setup (fetch) origin https://git.acme.com/git/torque-setup (push) Cent 6.3 (not working) yum install -y git git --version git version 1.7.1 git remote -v origin https://git.acme.com/git/torque-setup (fetch) origin https://git.acme.com/git/torque-setup (push) The git server only allows https. Not git or ssh connections. Why is the macbook pro able to do a git pull, while the cent os machine can't? Solution Update 2013-5-15 As jku mentioned, the culprit is the old version of git installed on the cent box. • Cisco Unifed Communication integration for Microsoft Lync crashes on Remote Desktop services 2008 R2!

  I am implementing instrumentation within an application and have encountered an issue where the value that is displayed in Windows Performance Monitor from a PerformanceCounter is incongruent with the value that is recorded. I am using a Stopwatch to record the duration of a method execution, then first i record the total milliseconds as a double, and secondly i pass the Stopwatch's TimeSpan.Ticks to the PerformanceCounter to be recorded in the Performance Monitor. Creating the Performance Counters in perfmon: var datas = new CounterCreationDataCollection(); datas.Add(new CounterCreationData { CounterName = name, CounterType = PerformanceCounterType.AverageTimer32 }); datas.Add(new CounterCreationData { CounterName = namebase, CounterType = PerformanceCounterType.AverageBase }); PerformanceCounterCategory.Create("Category", "performance data", PerformanceCounterCategoryType.SingleInstance, datas); Then to record i retrieve a pre-initialized counter from a collection and increment: _counters[counter].IncrementBy(timing); _counters[counterbase].Increment(); ...where "timing" is the Stopwatch's TimeSpan.Ticks value. When this runs, the collection of double's, which are the milliseconds values for the Stopwatch's TimeSpan show one set of values, but what appears in PerfMon are a different set of values. For example... two values recorded in the List of milliseconds are: 23322.675, 14230.614 And what appears in PerfMon graph are: 15.546, 9.930 Can someone explain this please?

  I have a script that acts as a wrapper for some unit tests written using the Python unittest module. In addition to cleaning up some files, creating an output stream and generating some code, it loads test cases into a suite using unittest.TestLoader().loadTestsFromTestCase() I am already using optparse to pull out several command-line arguments used for determining the output location, whether to regenerate code and whether to do some clean up. I also want to pass a configuration variable, namely an endpoint URI, for use within the test cases. I realize I can add an OptionParser to the setUp method of the TestCase, but I want to instead pass the option to setUp. Is this possible using loadTestsFromTestCase()? I can iterate over the returned TestSuite's TestCases, but can I manually call setUp on the TestCases? ** EDIT ** I wanted to point out that I am able to pass the arguments to setUp if I iterate over the tests and call setUp manually like: (options, args) = op.parse_args() suite = unittest.TestLoader().loadTestsFromTestCase(MyTests.TestSOAPFunctions) for test in suite: test.setUp(options.soap_uri) However, I am using xmlrunner for this and its run method takes a TestSuite as an argument. I assume it will run the setUp method itself, so I would need the parameters available within the XMLTestRunner. I hope this makes sense.

  I would like to dynamically create a set of context menu options based upon some properties. Currently, I am creating a context menu as a DynamicResource with the visibility of the menu options bound to the properties, however, it seems that the DynamicResource is created only once, at runtime. Is this true? What I would like to do is have the menu generated each time, which will take into account the property changes on the data object.   Hi, As part of our application we are using apache's xerces jaxp parser. When we deploy the application on weblogic9.2, we are getting the following error. org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'org.apache.cxf.wsdl.WSDLManager' defined in class path resource [META-INF/cxf/cxf.xml]: Instantiation of bean failed; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.BeanInstantiationException: Could not instantiate bean class [org.apache.cxf.wsdl11.WSDLManagerImpl]: Constructor threw exception; nested exception is java.lang.ClassCastException: org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl As per our analysis, i)The weblogic is trying to to load its own DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl which is present in weblogic.jar instead of apache's xerces. We tried the following to force the weblogic to load DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl from xerces i)we have added the following tag into weblogic.xml true ii)we have put latest versions of xalan in jre/lib/endorced folder. this didnt resolve our problem. ii) we have added entries in weblogic-application.xml webapp.encoding.default UTF-8 javax.jws. org.apache.xerces. org.apache.xerces.jaxp.* ii)Added the following entry in weblogic-application.xml <parser-factory> <saxparser-factory>org.apache.xerces.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl</saxparser-factory> <document-builder-factory>org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl </document-builder-factory> org.apache.xalan.processor.TransformerFactoryImpl iii)Added jaxp.properties to load DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl from xerces to the jre/lib and started the server.In this case, the weblogic didnt start. iv)Then we started the server first and then copied the jaxp.properties file during the run time when server starts.But no success None of the above worked for us. • Binding TabControl ItemsSource to an ObservableCollection of ViewModels causes content to refresh on

  I'm creating an WPF application using the MVVM framework, and I've adopted several features from Josh Smith's article on MVVM here... Most importantly, I'm binding a TabControl to an ObservableCollection of ViewModels. This means that am using a tabbed MDI interface that displays a UserControl as the content of a TabItem. The issue I'm seeing in my application is that when I have several tabs and I flip back and forth between tabs, the content is being refersh each time I change tabs. If you download Josh Smith's source code, you'll see that his app has the same problem. For example, click on the "View All Customers" button and scroll down to the bottom the ListView. Next click on the "Create New Customer" button. When you switch back to the All Customer view you'll notice that the ListView scrolls back to the top. If you switch back to the New Customer tab and place your cursor in one of the TextBoxes, then switch to All Customers tab and back, you'll notice that the cursor is now gone. I imagine that this is because I'm using an ObservableCollection, but I can't be sure. Is there any way to prevent the tab's content from refreshing when it receives the focus? EDIT: I found my problem when I ran the profiler on my application. I'm defining a DataTemplate for my ViewModels so it knows how to render the ViewModel when it is displayed in the tab... like so: <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type vm:CustomerViewModel}"> <vw:CustomerView/> </DataTemplate> So whenever I switch to a different tab, it has to re-create the ViewModel again. I fixed it temporarily by changing my ObservableCollection of ViewModels to an ObservableCollection of UserControls. However, I would really still like to use DataTemplates if possible. Is there a way to make a DataTemplate work?

  I'm having a WCF Service that uses wsHttpBinding. It works great if I have limited functions say 90 Operation Contract in my IService but if add one more OperationContract than I'm unable to Update the Service reference nor i'm able to add that service reference. In this article it's mentioned that by changing those config files(i.e devenv.exe.config, WcfTestClient.exe.config and SvcUtil.exe.config) it will work but even including those bindings in those config files still that error pops up saying There was an error downloading 'http://10.0.3.112/MyService/Service1.svc/mex'. The request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://10.0.3.112/MyService/Service1.svc/mex'. There is an error in XML document (1, 89549). The maximum nametable character count quota (16384) has been exceeded while reading XML data. The nametable is a data structure used to store strings encountered during XML processing - long XML documents with non-repeating element names, attribute names and attribute values may trigger this quota. This quota may be increased by changing the MaxNameTableCharCount property on the XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas object used when creating the XML reader. Line 1, position 89549. If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again. Any idea how to solve this????

• AWS Amazon EC2 - password-less SSH login for non-root users using PEM keypairs

  We've got a couple of clusters running on AWS (HAProxy/Solr, PGPool/PostgreSQL) and we've setup scripts to allow new slave instances to be auto-included into the clusters by updating their IPs to config files held on S3, then SSHing to the master instance to kick them to download the revised config and restart the service. It's all working nicely, but in testing we're using our master pem for SSH which means it needs to be stored on an instance. Not good. I want a non-root user that can use an AWS keypair who will have sudo access to run the download-config-and-restart scripts, but nothing else. rbash seems to be the way to go, but I understand this can be insecure unless setup correctly. So what security holes are there in this approach: New AWS keypair created for user.pem (not really called 'user') New user on instances: user Public key for user is in ~user/.ssh/authorized_keys (taken by creating new instance with user.pem, and copying it from /root/.ssh/authorized_keys) Private key for user is in ~user/.ssh/user.pem 'user' has login shell of /home/user/bin/rbash ~user/bin/ contains symbolic links to /bin/rbash and /usr/bin/sudo /etc/sudoers has entry "user ALL=(root) NOPASSWD: ~user/.bashrc sets PATH to /home/user/bin/ only ~user/.inputrc has 'set disable-completion on' to prevent double tabbing from 'sudo /' to find paths. ~user/ -R is owned by root with read-only access to user, except for ~user/.ssh which has write access for user (for writing known_hosts), and ~user/bin/* which are +x Inter-instance communication uses 'ssh -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -i ~user/.ssh/user.pem user@ sudo ' Any thoughts would be welcome. • dynamic GridView in CreateChildControls throws a "RegisterRequiresControlState can only be called be

  I am trying to add a GridView dynamically to a SharePoint Web Part. Right now, the first time I load the gridview, everything works fine. My gridview has an edit column enabled... so when I click that, it throws an exception when I try and add the gridview control on the postback. The exception: "RegisterRequiresControlState can only be called before and during PreRender" I've tried adding my controls in the CreateChildControls function, the OnInit, OnPageLoad, and OnPreRender... all exhibit the same problem. Does anyone know what might cause this kind of error? Edit: So to test this problem, I created a local GridView in the webpart, recreating all the properties in the one that failed. It actually worked this time through... the only difference that I could identify was that I had made the gridview a static variable in another class, where as here I initiated the gridview as a local variable. I even used the same initializing function for both the original and modified version, same difference. So why would creating a GridView locally affect the ability to add it to a web part?

• Cisco Unified Communication integration for Microsoft Lync crashes on Remote Desktop services 2008 R2!

• Cannot debug views in MVC2 project, getting "The resource cannot be found" error

  I'm running Visual Studio 2008 sp1 on Win7, with MVC2 RTM installed. I created a new MVC2 project using the wizard and am unable to debug specific pages. With webforms and even MVC1, I was able to sit on a View page, hit F5, and then have the integrated web server in VS2008 start on the page I was working on. Very handy for building up app logic. When I try this now I get a "The resource cannot be found" error page. I retried this just now with a stock new MVC2 Web Application project. Here are the steps I took after creating the new project to reproduce: Open up project settings. Under the Web subtab, set the Start Action to "Current Page". Leave all the other settings as is. Open one of the views up (e.g. Account/Register.aspx) Hit F5 to debug the project Note that the browser window which displays shows the error message "The resource cannot be found". The link I saw in my browser for this run was: http://localhost:49471/Views/Account/Register.aspx I did some googling and found suggestions related to ensuring all HTTP server pieces were installed. I double checked and made sure that "HTTP Errors" and "HTTP Redirection" were both installed. If I leave the project setting as it was originally, set to "Specific Page" with nothing in the text box, then routing works and I always get the default home page. I'm hoping this isn't the only option. Thanks!

• Strong Naming an assembly using command line compile

  I am trying to use NAnt in order to compile and sign an assembly using the vbc compiler. I have a project set up and am able to successfully sign the assembly compiling with VS2010. When I try to sign it using the command line I get this error: vbc : error BC30140: Error creating assembly manifest: Error signing assembly -- The parameter is incorrect. I even created a trivially simple app (just an assemblyinfo.vb file) that will not compile and sign using vbc.exe What am I doing wrong? here is my assemblyinfo.vb: Option Strict Off Option Explicit On Imports System Imports System.Reflection <Assembly: AssemblyVersionAttribute("2010.05.18.0918"), _ Assembly: AssemblyCopyrightAttribute("Copyright © Patient First 2007"), _ Assembly: AssemblyCompanyAttribute("Patient First, Inc."), _ Assembly: AssemblyProductAttribute("Patient First Framework"), _ Assembly: AssemblyDelaySign(false), _ Assembly: AssemblyKeyFile("test.pfx"), _ Assembly: AssemblyTitleAttribute("PatientFirst.Framework")> test.pfx is located in the same folder as assemblyinfo.vb Here is how I am trying to compile it: vbc /target:library /verbose assemblyinfo.vb I also tried using vbc /target:library /verbose assemblyinfo.vb /keyfile:test.pfx and tried using /keyfile parameter without the AssemblyDelaySign and AssemblyKeyFile attributes If I remove the AssemblyDelaySign and AssemblyKeyFile attributes and leave off the /keyfile command line parameter it compiles fine. What is the correct way to do this with vbc? --EDIT: I have found that MSBuild also does not like having the AssemblyKeyFile attribute as I have defined it in the AssemblyInfo.vb, it gives the same failure message. So the only way I can currently get this to build correctly is to set properties on the project to tell it which key file to use and to sign the assembly.

  I'm creating a simple report from Microsoft Dynamics CRM. If I shorted it in design view, it still comes out too wide in the presentation. I think the field is coming out that wide because the database field probably has a bunch of blank spaces at the end of every description. I could not find a way to force that field in the Tablix not to grow horizontally, so I attempted to remedy it in the dataset by replacing the NewProductDesc line with: ltrim(rtrim(FP.NEW_PRODUCTNAME)) AS NewProductDesc However, that has no effect either. Can anyone suggest why this behavior is occuring? Can anyone tell me how I can force the field not to grow horizontally?
