• WCF Stream.Read always returns 0 in client

  I've spent most of my day trying to figure out why this isn't working. I have a WCF service that streams an object to the client. The client is then supposed to write the file to its disk. But when I call stream.Read(buffer, 0, bufferLength) it always returns 0. I can replace the streaming with buffering and send an object that way fine, but when I try to stream, the client always sees the stream as "empty". The testFile.exe gets created, but its size is 0KB. What am I missing?

• Mono-LibreOffice System.TypeLoadException

  In the past I wrote a C# library to work with OpenOffice and this worked fine both in Windows than under Ubuntu with Mono. Part of this library is published here as accepted answer. In these days I discovered that Ubuntu decided to move to LibreOffice, so I tried my library with LibreOffice latest stable release. While under Windows it's working perfectly, under Linux I receive this error: Unhandled Exception: System.TypeLoadException: A type load exception has occurred. [ERROR] FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: System.TypeLoadException: A type load exception has occurred. Usually Mono tells us which library can't load, so I can install correct package and everything is OK, but in this case I really don't know what's going bad. I'm using Ubuntu oneiric and my library is compiled with Framework 4.0. Under Windows I had to write this into app.config: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true"> <supportedRuntime version="v4.0" sku=".NETFramework,Version=v4.0,Profile=Client"/> </startup> </configuration> because LibreOffice assemblies uses Framework 2.0 (I think). How can I find the reason of this error to solve it? Thanks UPDATE: Even compiling with Framework 2.0 problem (as expected) is the same. Problem (I think) is that Mono is not finding cli-uno-bridge package (installable on previous Ubuntu releases and now marked as superseded), but I cannot be sure. When I publish the web service application to inetpub\wwwroot (Windows 7, IIS7) it does not delete the old files in the Download directory. The app works perfect when I publish to IIS from a physical directory not in wwwroot. Obviously, it seems IIS places some sort of lock on files in the web root. I have tested impersonating an admin user to run the app and it still does not work. Any tips on how to circumvent the lock programmatically when in wwwroot? The client will probably want the app published to the root directory. Thank you very much.

• Why is this XMLHttpRequest sample from Mozilla is not working in Firefox 3?

  I'm trying to get the sample code from Mozilla that consumes a REST web service to work under Firefox 3.0.10. The following code does NOT work in Firefox but does in IE 8! Why is this not working? Does IE 8 have support for XMLHttpRequest? Most examples I've seen use the ActiveX allocation. What should I be doing? XMLHttpRequest seems more standardized. My problem was indeed cross-domain. I was viewing my site unpublished (just on the file system) which was hitting a published service. When I published my site under the same domain it worked. Which also brings up an important distinction between IE and Firefox. When IE experiences this scenario, it prompts the user whether or not they accept the cross-domain call. Firefox throws an exception. While I'm fine with an exception, a more descriptive one would have been helpful. Thanks for all those who helped me.

• L2S DataContext out of synch: row not found or changed

  The Problem I am getting a number of errors that imply that the DataContext, or rather, the way I am using the DataContext is getting out of synch. The error occurs on db.SubmitChanges() where db is my DataContext instance. The error is: Row not found or changed. The problem only occurs intermitently, for example, adding a row then deleting it. If I stop the dev server and restart, the added row is there and I can delete it no problem. Ie, it seems that the problem is related to the DataContext losing track of the rows that have been added. IMPORTANT: Before anyone votes to close this thread, on the basis of it being a duplicate, I have checked the sql server profiler and there is no "Where 0 = 1" in the SQL. I have also recreated the dbml file, so am satisfied that the database schema is in synch with the schema represented by the dbml file. Ie, no cases of mismatched nullable/not nullable columns, etc. My Diagnosis (for what it is worth): It seems to be a problem related to how I am using the DataContext. I am new to MVC, Repositories and Services patterns, so suspect that I have wired things up wrong. The Setup Simple eLearning app in its early stages. Pupils need to be able to add and delete courses (Courses table) to their UserCourses. To do this, I have a service that gets a specific DataContext instance Dependency Injected into its constructor. • jQuery animation menu height

  Hey all i have the following jsfiddle Fiddle that i need some help on. When i have my mouse over it-it expands out to a static width but, depending on the text length, it grabs it by the inner's text $('.inner').height(). Problem being is that it goes a little too far beyond the last text list item and when i roll over any of the text in the menu box it slides back up a little. How can prevent it from (1) sliding back up and (2) have the exact height needed without even having the extra space at the bottom of the box for its height? • Reusing my PagedList object on WCF

  The problem: I have a custom collection PagedList<T> that is being returned from my WCF service as PagedListOfEntitySearchResultW_SH0Zpu5 when T is EntitySearchResult object. I want to reuse this PagedList<T> type between the application and the service. My scenario: I've created a PagedList<T> type that inherits from List<T>. This type is on a separated assembly that is referenced on both application and WCF service. I'm using the /reference option on the scvutil to enable the type reusing. I also don't want any arrays returned so I also use the /collection to map to the generic List type. • StackOverflowException throws often when .net application built with Debug mode

• Applying Test Driven Development to a tightly coupled architecture

  Hi all, I've recently been studying TDD, attended a conference and have dabbled in few tests and already I'm 100% sold, I absolutely love it TDD. As a result I've raised this with my seniors and they are prepared to give it a chance, so they have tasked me with coming up with a way to implement TDD in the development of our enterprise product. The problem is our system has evolved since the days of VB6 to .NET and implements alot of legacy technology and some far from best practice development techniques i.e. alot of business logic in the ASP.NET code behind and client script. The largest problem however is how our classes are tightly coupled with database access; properties, methods, constructors - usually has some database access in some form or another. We use an in-house data access code generator tool that creates sqlDataAdapters that gives us all the database access we could ever want, which helps us develop extremely quickly, however, classes in our business layer are very tightly coupled to this data layer - we aren't even close to implementing some form of repository design. This and the issues above have created me all sorts of problems. I have tried to develop some unit tests for some existing classes I've already written but the tests take ALOT longer to run since db access is required, not to mention since we use the MS Enterprise Caching framework I am forced to fake a httpcontext for my tests to run successfully which isn't practical. Also, I can't see how to use TDD to drive the design of any new classes I write since they have to be soo tightly coupled to the database ... help! Because of the architecture of the system it appears I can't implement TDD without some real hack which in my eyes just defeats the aim of TDD and the huge benefits that come with. Does anyone have any suggestions how I could implement TDD with the constraints I'm bound too? or do I need to push the repository design pattern down my seniors throats and tell them we either change our architecture/development methodology or forget about TDD altogether? :) Thanks

• Remote JMS connection still using localhost

  I have a created a JMS Connection Factory on a remote glassfish server and want to use that server from a java client app on my local machine. I have the following configuration to get the context and connection factory: Properties env = new Properties(); env.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial", "com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialInitContextFactory"); env.setProperty("java.naming.factory.url.pkgs", "com.sun.enterprise.naming"); env.setProperty("java.naming.factory.state", "com.sun.corba.ee.impl.presentation.rmi.JNDIStateFactoryImpl"); env.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost", JMS_SERVER_NAME); env.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort", "3700"); initialContext = new InitialContext(env); TopicConnectionFactory topicConnectionFactory = (TopicConnectionFactory) initialContext.lookup("jms/MyConnectionFactory"); topicConnection = topicConnectionFactory.createTopicConnection(); topicConnection.start(); This seems to work and when I delete the ConnectionFactory from the glassfish server I get a exception indicating that is can't find jms/MyConnectionFactory as expected. However when I subsequently use my topicConnection to get a topic it tries to connect to localhost:7676 (this fails as I am not running glassfish locally). If I dynamically create a topic: TopicSession pubSession = topicConnection.createTopicSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE); Topic topic = pubSession.createTopic(topicName); TopicPublisher publisher = pubSession.createPublisher(topic); Message mapMessage = pubSession.createTextMessage(message); publisher.publish(mapMessage); and the glassfish server is not running locally I get the same connection refused however, if I start my local glassfish server the topics are created locally and I can see them in the glassfish admin console. In case you ask I do not have jms/MyConnectionFactory on my local glassfish instance, it is only available on the remote server. I can't see what I am doing wrong here and why it is trying to use localhost at all. Any ideas? Cheers, James

• Running Magento for multiple clients - single Installaton vs. multiple installations

  Hi There I am looking to set-up a Magento (Community Edition) installation for multiple clients and have researched the matter for a few days now. I can see that the Enterprise Edition has what I need in it, but surprisingly I am not willing to shell out the $12,000 odd yearly subscription. It seems there are a few options available to be but I am worried about the performance I will get out of the various options. Option 1) Single install using AITOC advanced permissions module So this is really what I am after; one installation so that I can update my core files all at the same time and also manage all my store users from one place. The problems here are that I don't know anything about the reliability of this extra product and that I have to pay a bit extra. I am also worried that if I have 10 stores running off this one installation it might all slow down so much and keel over as I have heard allot about Magento's slowness. Module Link: http://www.aitoc.com/en/magentomods_advanced_permissions.html Option 2) Multiple installations of Magento on one server for each shop So here I have 10 Magento installations on one server all running happily away not using any extra money, but I now have 10 separate stores to update and maintain which could be annoying. Also I haven't been able to find a whole lot of other people using this method and when I have they are usually asking how to stop their servers from dying. So this route seems like it could be even worse on my server as I will have more going on on my server but if my server could take it each Magento installation would be simpler and less likely to slow down due to each one having to run 10 shops on its own? Option 3) Use lots of servers and lots of Magento installations I just so do not want to do this. Option 4) Buy Magento Enterprise I do not have the money to do this.   As part of our build process and evolving database, I'm trying to create a script which will remove all of the tables and sequences for a user. I don't want to do recreate the user as this will require more permissions than allowed. My script creates a procedure to drop the tables/sequences, executes the procedure, and then drops the procedure.   Is it possible to define resource references that are applicable to all EJBs in an application? Is there a way to factor this duplication out within a J2EE 1.4 application? Ideally I should be able to define the jdbc/myDatasource resource once within the application and have anything running inside that container be able to access it by doing a JNDI lookup for "java:comp/env/jdbc/myDatasource". Is there any way to accomplish this?

• How to retrive message list from p2p

  Hello friends I have a messaging system that uses p2p. Each peer has a incoming message list and a outgoing message list. What I need to do is whenever a new peer will join the mesh he will get the all the incoming messages from other peers and add those into it's own incoming message list. Now I know when I get the other peer info from I can ask them to give their own list to me. But I'm not finding the way how..? Any suggestion on this or help would be highly appreciated. • Setting a parameter as a list for an IN expression

  Whenever I try to set a list as a parameter for use in an IN expression I get an Illegal argument exception. Various posts on the internet seem to indicate that this is possible, but it's certainly not working for me. I'm using Glassfish V2.1 with Toplink. • wsdl interoperability problems

  I wrote a .asmx web service which I'm trying to consume from a java client. I'm using axis2's wsdl2java to generate code. But it says that the wsdl is invalid. What exactly is the problem here? It is .net which generated the wsdl automatically after all. Are there problems with wsdl standards, rather the lack of them? What can I do now?
