  I am writing an app that is simulating RobotArm movement. What I want to achieve, and where I have couple of problems is moving a Point on arc (180degree) that is arm range of movement. I am moving an arm by grabbing with mouse end of arm (Elbow, the Point I was talking about), robot can have multiple arms with diffrent arm lenghts. If u can help me with this part, I'd be grateful.   Hi I would like to make a list-detail view with richfaces. There will be a link for every record in the list that should open a new window containing record details. I tried to implement the link this way: <a4j:commandLink oncomplete="window.open('/pages/serviceDetail.jsf','popupWindow', 'dependent=yes, menubar=no, toolbar=no, height=500, width=400')" actionListener="#{monitoringBean.recordDetail}" value="details" /> I use <a4j:keepAlive beanName="monitoringBean" ajaxOnly="false" /> for both the list and the detail page. recordDetail method fills the data of the selected record to a variable of the bean that I would like to display on the detail page. The problem is that keepalive doesn't work, so I get new bean instance on the detail page every time. So the the previously selected record from the other bean is not accessible here. Is there a way to pass parameter (id) to the detail page to handle record selection. Or is there any way to make keepalive work? (I this this would be the easiest). Thanks

I am FINALLY ready to use only div, li, CSS for the layout, but my question is, what is the proper way to layout pages in VS2010? • 2D platformer gravity physics with slow-motion

  Hi all, I fine tuned my 2d platformer physics and when I added slow-motion I realized that it is messed up. The problem I have is that for some reason the physics still depends on framerate. So when I scale down time elapsed, every force is scaled down as well. So the jump force is scaled down, meaning in slow-motion, character jumps vertically smaller height and gravity force is scaled down as well so the character goes further in the air without falling.   I am using a condensed font in Cufon. When the page loads, my menu is too wide and wraps. Then Cufon replaces the font and it looks fine. To reduce the visual distraction, I want to set the font size smaller and then have Cufon change the font size when it displays. Currently the font size is set by the div containing the menu.   I have a carousel with textboxes for each image, and my client (who knows nothing about HTML) edits the textboxes using a WYSIWYG text editor. Then, by setting a font-size:x% sort of declaration on .carousel-text-container, I hoped that that would resize everything properly. Unfortunately, there seems to be a recursive nature with how font-size is applied in ems. That is, .example is not resized properly in the following because its parent is also influencing it <span style="font-size:2em;"> Something <span class="example" style="font-size:1.5em;">Else</span> </span> How can I resize everything reliably and precisely such I can achieve a true percentage of my original font size, margin, padding, line-height, etc. for all the children of .carousel-text-container?

  I would like to have a button on a web page with the following behavior: On the first click, open a pop-up. On later clicks, if the pop-up is still open, just bring it to the front. If not, re-open. The below code works in Firefox (Mac & Windows), Safari (Mac & Windows), and IE8. (I have not yet tested IE6 or IE7.) However, in Google Chrome (both Mac & Windows) later clicks fail to bring the existing pop-up to the front as desired. • C++ Implicit Conversion Operators

  I'm trying to find a nice inheritance solution in C++. I have a Rectangle class and a Square class. The Square class can't publicly inherit from Rectangle, because it cannot completely fulfill the rectangle's requirements. For example, a Rectangle can have it's width and height each set separately, and this of course is impossible with a Square. So, my dilemma. Square obviously will share a lot of code with Rectangle; they are quite similar. For examlpe, if I have a function like: bool IsPointInRectangle(const Rectangle& rect); it should work for a square too. In fact, I have a ton of such functions. So in making my Square class, I figured I would use private inheritance with a publicly accessible Rectangle conversion operator. So my square class looks like: class Square : private Rectangle { public: operator const Rectangle&() const; }; However, when I try to pass a Square to the IsPointInRectangle function, my compiler just complains that "Rectangle is an inaccessible base" in that context. I expect it to notice the Rectangle operator and use that instead. Is what I'm trying to do even possible? If this can't work I'm probably going to refactor part of Rectangle into MutableRectangle class. Thanks.

  I've got a form with two fields, firstname and lastname. The user does not have to fill in the fields. When the user clicks the submit button, a jquery dialog displays with the data the user entered in the form. I only want to show the data for the fields that were entered. I'm trying to do an if statement and use the length() function but it isn't working. Help would be great! • IE ignores added onclick attribute

  The Jquery code below works ok with firefox, Safari, Opera but not with IE. I kinda know why this isn't working in IE after reading a lot about it but I do not know how to fix it. My understanding (I think) is that this method will assign a attribute of "onclick" in IE rather than an event method. Therefore it will not fire in IE and the href fires instead which in this case is "#" which is exactly what is happening. • jQuery + External javascript: How to embed videoplayer in div

  I just started with jQuery and so far I have a really good impression of the framework. But now I have a problem that I can't figure out on myself. I want to embed an external javascript file that loads a videoplayer and displays it. If I include the <script>...</script> directly in HTML it loads just fine. But when I try to load it with jQuery it has very different behaviors in several browsers but it doesn't work in a single one. Either the player is not loaded at all or it doesn't update the selected div but reloads the player on a blank page. • jquery ajaxstart ajaxstop show hide

  As usually seemingly simple things take days to resolve, maybe someone could point me to a solution but after 2 days I give up on the following problem; In html, in a form I have a button that is supposed to trigger loading of data through ajax call: <button type="" class="btn" onclick="getData(); return false;">Show Data</button> in javascript: $(document).ajaxStart(function() { $("#qloader").show(); }).ajaxStop(function() { $("#qloader").hide('slow'); });? and in html div with id qloader is defined with 100% width and height and spinner centered as the background, z-index above other: <div id="qloader" class="myLoader" >&nbsp;</div> Now, when page loads, ajax call is executed to get initial data, qloader div is brought up and it shows the spinner - animated, after ajax call finishes, qloader is hidden by ajaxStop. Next, when I click on a button (show data) to initiate another ajax call, ajaxStart is triggered, but it does not show qloader, it waits until ajaxStop is triggered and then in a blink of eye it shows qloader and hides it. I suspected that ajaxStart is not executed, so I put alert before $("#qloader").show(), then alert would be displayed and after that qloader WOULD be displayed BUT spinner animation would be suspended - no spinning, and after ajaxStop it would get hidden. Without alert in ajaxStart trigger, in subsequent ajax calls div is not shown until just before ajaxStop is triggered. It works fine for the first ajax call, but for subsequent ajax call triggered by click on form button it does not work. Any idea what is wrong with this setup?

• What Getters and Setters should and shouldn't do.

  I've run into a lot of differing opinions on Getters and Setters lately, so I figured I should make it into it's own question. A previous question of mine received an immediate comment (later deleted) that stated setters shouldn't have any side effects, and a SetProperty method would be a better choice. Indeed, this seems to be Microsoft's opinion as well. However, their properties often raise events, such as Resized when a form's Width or Height property is set. OwenP also states "you shouldn't let a property throw exceptions, properties shouldn't have side effects, order shouldn't matter, and properties should return relatively quickly." Yet Michael Stum states that exceptions should be thrown while validating data within a setter. If your setter doesn't throw an exception, how could you effectively validate data, as so many of the answers to this question suggest? What about when you need to raise an event, like nearly all of Microsoft's Control's do? Aren't you then at the mercy of whomever subscribed to your event? If their handler performs a massive amount of information, or throws an error itself, what happens to your setter? Finally, what about lazy loading within the getter? This too could violate the previous guidelines. What is acceptable to place in a getter or setter, and what should be kept in only accessor methods?
