• .net open auth?

  Hi I know stackoverflow uses open authentication. I want to try and use this as well. I am using asp.net mvc 2.0 with C#. I found this http://www.dotnetopenauth.net/ and I am wondering if this is what was used for stackoverflow. Also any tutorials would be nice as well.   Short version: How do I set a Git remote's HEAD ref to point to something besides "master"? My project has a policy not to use a "master" branch (all branches are to have meaningful names). Furthermore, the canonical master repository is only accessible via ssh://, with no shell access (like GitHub or Unfuddle). My problem is that the remote repository still has a HEAD reference to refs/heads/master, but I need it to point to a different branch. This is causing two problems: When cloning the repo, there this, warning: remote HEAD refers to nonexistent ref, unable to checkout. That's confusing and inconvenient. The web-based code browser depends on HEAD as a basis for browsing the tree. I need HEAD to point to a valid branch, then.

• possible to save pdf with .net from populated form by .fdf

  I have a process that creates form data in the form of an .fdf file that then has a reference to the .pdf document that is its "parent". is it possible with any .NET process to save that .pdf file (populated with the data that came in from the .fdf)? I need this because I need to email the fully populated .pdf documents out. I've been just sending the .fdfs with fully qualified links to the pdfs, but some people are having problems with it and I'd rather just go full-blown pdf if I can do it. FYI, my server does have a licensed copy of Acrobat installed if that matters....

• Is it a good idea to create an STL iterator which is noncopyable?

  Most of the time, STL iterators are CopyConstructable, because several STL algorithms require this to improve performance, such as std::sort. However, I've been working on a pet project to wrap the FindXFile API (previously asked about), but the problem is it's impossible to implement a copyable iterator around this API. A find handle cannot be duplicated by any means -- DuplicateHandle specifically forbids passing handles to it. And if you just maintain a reference count to the find handle, then a single increment by any copy results in an increment of all copies -- clearly that is not what a copy constructed iterator is supposed to do. Since I can't satisfy the traditional copy constructible requirement for iterators here, is it even worth trying to create an "STL style" iterator? On one hand, creating some other enumeration method is going to not fall into normal STL conventions, but on the other, following STL conventions are going to confuse users of this iterator if they try to CopyConstruct it later. Which is the lesser of two evils?

• Serializing C# objects to DB

  I'm using a DB table with various different entities. This means that I can't have an arbitrary number of fields in it to save all kinds of different entities. I want instead save just the most important fields (dates, reference IDs - kind of foreign key to various other tables, most important text fields etc.) and an additional text field where I'd like to store more complete object data. the most obvious solution would be to use XML strings and store those. The second most obvious choice would be JSON, that usually shorter and probably also faster to serialize/deserialize... And is probably also faster. But is it really? My objects also wouldn't need to be strictly serializable, because JsonSerializer is usually able to serialize anything. Even anonymous objects, that may as well be used here. What would be the most optimal solution to solve this problem?

Back in ASP.NET WebForms, I'd occasionally use a positional parameter in a query string if I only had to pass one thing to a page. For example: http://localhost/site/MyPage.aspx?ABCD1234 Then my code would look like this: string accountNumber = ""; if (Request.QueryString.Count > 0) accountNumber = Request.QueryString[0]; In MVC, can you pass a positional query string parameter to a controller method instead of accessing it through Request.QueryString?

• Loading remote assembly from the webservice with reflection

  I am using Assembly.LoadFrom within a web service to load assemblies from a web site. but the problem is it is in the virutal directory and the server.mappath parses the url like \share\mydll.dll and loadform method failed. Is there anyway to reference dll from the remote location? I've tried passing the url (http:\localhost\downloadable\mydll.dll) and again it got "Could not load file or assembly 'http:\localhost\downloadable\mydll.dll' or one of its dependencies. HTTP download of assemblies has been disabled for this appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131048)"

• jQuery - Add click event to Div and go to first link found

  Hi guys, I think I've been too much time looking at this function and just got stuck trying to figure out the nice clean way to do it. It's a jQuery function that adds a click event to any div with a click CSS class found in the page and when clicked it redirects the user to the first link found in the div. function clickabledivs() { $('.click').each( function (intIndex) { $(this).bind("click", function(){ window.location = $( "#"+$(this).attr('id')+" a:first-child" ).attr('href'); }); } ); } The code simply works although I'm pretty sure there is a fairly better way to accomplish it, specially the selector I am using: $( "#"+$(this).attr('id')+" a:first-child" ) looks too long and slow.   Hi community, I need some help with TimesTen DB query optimization. I made some measures with Java profiler and found the code section that takes most of the time (this code section executes the SQL query). What is strange that this query becomes expensive only for some specific input data. Here’s the example. We have two tables that we are querying, one represents the objects we want to fetch (T_PROFILEGROUP), another represents the many-to-many link from some other table (T_PROFILECONTEXT_PROFILEGROUPS). We are not querying linked table. It’s not about queries precompilation (the first one is precompiled too, as same queries happened earlier). We have DB indices for all columns used here: T_PROFILEGROUP.M_ID, T_PROFILECONTEXT_PROFILEGROUPS.M_ID_OID and T_PROFILECONTEXT_PROFILEGROUPS.M_ID_EID. My questions are: Why querying the same set of tables yields such a different performance for different parameters? Which indices are involved here? Is there any way to improve this simple query and/or the DB to make it faster? UPDATE: to give the feeling of size: Command> select count(*) from T_PROFILEGROUP; < 183840 > 1 row found. Command> select count(*) from T_PROFILECONTEXT_PROFILEGROUPS; < 2279104 > 1 row found.

• Why is a fixed size buffers (arrays) must be unsafe?

  Let's say I want to have a value type of 7 bytes (or 3 or 777). I can define it like that: public struct Buffer71 { public byte b0; public byte b1; public byte b2; public byte b3; public byte b4; public byte b5; public byte b6; } A simpler way to define it is using a fixed buffer public struct Buffer72 { public unsafe fixed byte bs[7]; } Of course the second definition is simpler. The problem lies with the unsafe keyword that must be provided for fixed buffers. I understand that this is implemented using pointers and hence unsafe. My question is why does it have to be unsafe? Why can't C# provide arbitrary constant length arrays and keep them as a value type instead of making it a C# reference type array or unsafe buffers?

• Why aren't unsigned OpenMP index variables allowed?

  I have a loop in my C++/OpenMP code that looks like this: #pragma omp parallel for for(unsigned int i=0; i<count; i++) { // do stuff } When I compile it (with Visual Studio 2005) I get the following error: error C3016: 'i' : index variable in OpenMP 'for' statement must have signed integral type I understand that the error occurs because i is unsigned instead of signed, and changing i to be signed removed this error. What I want to know is why is this an error? Why aren't unsigned index variables allowed? Looking at the MSDN page for this error gives me no clues.

• Recording Audio through RTMP/Rails

  I am in the process of building a rails/flex application which requires audio to be recorded and then stored in our amazon s3 account. I have found no alternative to using some form of RTMP server for recording audio through flash, but our hosting environment will not allow us to install anything like FMS, Red5, etc. Is there any existing Ruby/Rails RTMP solution that will allow audio recording? If not, is it possible for Rails to at least intercept the RTMP stream and then I can hope to reference red5 or something for parsing the data (long shot, I know)? The other alternative I can think of is hosting a red5 server on another host and communicating with our rails app once the saving/uploading is done, which is not preferred. Am I going to have any luck here?

  We simply created a DataGridView control dynamically and bound it to a DataTable. We were tying to style certain columns. But, when we tried to access the columns we got a null reference. On further investigation we found that if we add the DataGridView control to the main form, and then try to access its columns, it works fine!!! Code which throws error: DataGridView gv = new DataGridView(); gv.DataSource = GetDataTable(); //binding it to datatable Debug.Assert(gv.Columns == null); Code which works fine: DataGridView gv = new DataGridView(); gv.DataSource = GetDataTable(); //binding it to datatable this.Controls.Add(gv); //adding to form Debug.Assert(gv.Columns == null); //the assertion fails!   I need to find a fairly efficient way to detect syllables in a word. E.g., invisible - in-vi-sib-le There are some syllabification rules that could be used: V CV VC CVC CCV CCCV CVCC *where V is a vowel and C is a consonant. e.g., pronunciation (5 Pro-nun-ci-a-tion; CV-CVC-CV-V-CVC) I've tried few methods, among which were using regex (which helps only if you want to count syllables) or hard coded rule definition (a brute force approach which proves to be very inefficient) and finally using a finite state automata (which did not result with anything useful). The purpose of my application is to create a dictionary of all syllables in a given language. This dictionary will later be used for spell checking applications (using Bayesian classifiers) and text to speech synthesis. I would appreciate if one could give me tips on an alternate way to solve this problem besides my previous approaches. I work in Java, but any tip in C/C++, C#, Python, Perl... would work for me.

  I am optimization my web page by implementing caching, so if I want the browser not to take data from cache, then I will append a dynamic number as query value. eg: google.com?val=823746 But some time, if I want to bring data from cache for the below url, the browser is making a new http request to server, its not taking data from cache. • Capture Flash Audio in 4.7 Edge?

  Is there a way to capture plugin (Flash) audio before it gets to the sound card? I'd like to record plugin audio, hopefully without actually playing the sound. Capturing audio at the device level is an absolute last resort, as the application would pick up all system audio rather than just the Webkit plugin. I'm aware of the recent switch back from QTMultimedia; is this possible with phonon? I spent the night looking for some way to access the phonon graph via QWebFrame (or any of the QtWebkit widgets) -- and didn't turn up much. I also started digging through QTWebkit, particularly NPAPI, without success. For reference, I'm using the edge version of 4.7 (6aa50af000f85cc4497749fcf0860c8ed244a60e) This seems to be a fairly challenging problem. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

• How to be sure that my MVC project is running on the correct version after upgrade to vs2010?

  I just installed visual studio 2010 and upgraded my MVC project (which was running on MVC RC2 in visual studio 2008). visual studio 2010 updated every project file to target the framework 4.0. But the system.web.dll is pointing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft ASP.NET\ASP.NET MVC 2\Assemblies\System.Web.Mvc.dll in VS2010 object browser, I have every dll showing up in multiple versions as expected (3.5.0.0 and 4.0.0.0) except for the System.Web.Mvc dll which doesn't show any version and points to the path I mentioned above. Isn't this namespace point to the Framework folder like the System.Web namespace? C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.0\System.Web.dll
