What's the best way to do this?     I have played/worked with many different programming languages and Dylan is still one of my favorites. My question is why did Dylan fail when Objective-C, Ruby and even Scheme have had more success? Was Dylans performance that much worse than Objective-C that Apple went with it or was purely for social/political reasons. Hopefully someone from apple will see this question :) BTW if you have no idea what Dylan is please google Dylan Progrmaming Language.

    It is my understanding that although Mercurial has support from branches, the community generally clone repos instead of creating branches. Similar to the Darcs model, unlike the Git model. I'm deploying a Ruby on Rails app with Capistrano and there I'd like to separate the production from the development branch. Should I point Capistrano to a different repo or should I use branches?

  • Textmate RSpec Run Example fails

    When I try to run an RSpec example from within Textmate. I get "Rails requires RubyGems = 1.3.2 (you have 1.3.1). Please gem update --system and try again." I run gem update and I get nothing to update. I think the RSpec bundle is running from the built in directories rather than /local/. How do I change where the bundle looks? Thanks! :)

  • Programmers - I have a question for you.

    My boyfriend does coding (Rails/C?/PHP) for a job and I don't know what he would appreciate on our first anniversary. Does anyone have any ideas? Yes, he's stereotypical geek, but I'd rather not give a pack of Bawls for an anniversary gift. He dislikes going anywhere, so "experiences" like going to an event are out. Maybe I should just have a giant LAN party in the house.

    Obviously, I'm pretty new to node.js. I'm attempting to debug a node.js application and I see node.js in the stack trace. I would like to put some sys.puts calls in there, but I cannot locate the node.js that is being run by my server. Is there a way to tell where node.js is located? Is there an equivalent to Ruby's FILE in node? Thanks, Brian

    Does anyone know of a good .NET library that allows me to parse source code files, but not only .NET source code files (like java, perl, ruby, etc)? I need programmatic access to the contents of various source code files (e.g. class/method /parameter names, types, etc.). Has anyone come across something like this? I know within .NET it is reasonably possible and there are some libraries out there, but I need that to be abstracted to more types of programming languages.

Their center is around mathematics rather than function design. Some kind of point system for correctly solving challenges, or solving them the most efficient/smallest would be neat as well. This is possible with Rails partial templates; it looks like it's possible with Django's blocks [albeit with some kind of Python hackery]; I'm wondering if it's possible with Erlydtl [Erlang implementation of Django templates] Ideas ?
