• R: how to make a unique set of names from a vector of strings?

  Hi, I have a vector of strings. Check out my vector, it's awesome: > awesome [1] "a" "b" "c" "d" "d" "e" "f" "f" I'd like to make a new vector that is the same length as awesome but where, if necessary, the strings have been uniqueified. For example, a valid output of my desired function would be > awesome.uniqueified [1] "a" "b" "c" "d.1" "d.2" "e" "f.1" "f.2" Is there an easy, R-thonic and beautiful way to do this? I should say my list in real life (it's not called awesome) contains 25000ish mircoarray probeset identifiers. I'm always nervous when I embark on writing little generic functions (which I'm sure I could do) as I'm sure some R guru has come across this problem in the past, nailed it with some incredible algorithm that doesn't even have to store more than half an element in the vector. I'm just not sure what they might have called it. Probably not uniqueify.

I wonder I have to add [DataMember(Order = 3)] for it or not. [DataMember(Order = 3)] //<--- must declare or not? public string DoSomething() { // do something... } I understand that if I want to use serializer in protobuf-net to serialize my data stored in, I have to declare those attribute. but I'm not sure about that on method. please help. • .NET desktop App remembering login to a webservice

  I am in the planning stages of a .NET desktop app that will communicate with a web service. The web service requires a username and password, and a common feature in this sort of app is to save the user's credentials for the next logon. I've thought of a few ways of achieving this, but I am not sure what the most secure way would be. Should it be stored encrypted in a file (and could someone nefarious copy that file to their own machine and hence logon as the original person), or in the registry somehow (I've not done any registry work before, is it secure and would it work)? Are there any other options I might not have thought of?

  What are the consequences of implementing the same interface through two different routes in PHP, are there any? What I mean, is something like this: interface baseInterface {} abstract class baseClass implements baseInterface { } interface myInterface extends baseInterface {} class myClass extends baseClass implements myInterface {} In this case myClass implements baseInterface from two different parents - myInterface and baseClass. Are there any consequences to this? My instinct is that PHP should handle this fine, but I just want to make sure. What exactly does PHP do in this case? Does it just check to see that the necessary functions are implemented for the interface each time it discovers it and call it a day or does it do something more?

• problem in decreasing page's queries

  hey guys i have a tag table in my php/mysql project that looks like this Table name : bt_tags Table fileds : tid,tag and for every story rows there is a filed named : tags Table name: stories table filed : tags that saved in this field as ids 1 5 6 space between them now problem : when using while loop to fetch all fields in story table , the page uses 1 query to show every stories' detail but for showing tag's names , i should query another table to find names , we have ids stored in story table now i used for loop between while loop to show tag names but im sure there is a better way to decrease page queries how can i improve this script and show tag's names without using *for loop ?* $result = $db->sql_query("SELECT * FROM ".STORY_TABLE."   Where can I find documentation for Qt documentation comments? I'm referring to how Qt uses a specific style for documentation comments, like so: /*! \class MyClassName \brief The MyClassName class is used as an example on Stack Overflow. This class serves a few functions, the most important being: \list \i So people can understand my question. \i So people can have a few laughs at the comedy in my example. \endlist */ ...you get the picture. So where can I find information about all the switches, like \class, \list, \brief, etc. Also, what tool(s) do I use to generate documentation files from these comments in my source files? Does Doxygen support this syntax?

• Read multiple strings from a file C++

  Hi I need to read different values stored in a file one by one. So I was thinking I can use ifstream to open the file, but since the file is set up in such a way that a line might contain three numbers, and the other line one number or two numbers I'm not sure how to read each number one by one. I was thinking of using stringstream but I'm not sure if that would work. The file is a format like this. 52500.00 64029.50 56000.00 65500.00 53780.00 77300.00 44000.50 80100.20 90000.00 41000.00 60500.50 72000.00 I need to read each number and store it in a vector. What is the best way to accomplish this? Reading one number at a time even though each line contains a different amount of numbers?

  I have a class UserControlBase that inherits System.Web.UI.UserControl and my user controls inherit UserControlBase class. UserControlBase has some common functions that are used in all user controls. I want to put error display funtion to UserControlBase as well so that I may not have to declare and manage it in all user controls. Error will be displayed in some label in usercontrol. Issue is how to access label which is in usercontrol in UserControlBase in function ? I dont want to pass label as argument. Please guide me on this issue. thanks

  i was wondering if there is a data structure optimized to count frequencies against data that is stored in a database table-like format. for example, the data comes in a (comma) delimited format below. col1, col2, col3 x, a, green x, b, blue ... y, c, green now i simply want to count the frequency of col1=x or col1=x and col2=green. i have been storing the data in a database table, but in my profiling and from empirical observation, database connection is the bottle-neck. i have tried using in-memory database solutions too, and that works quite well; the only problem is memory requirements and quirky init/destroy calls. also, i work mainly with java, but have experience with .net, and was wondering if there was any api to work with "tabular" data in a linq way using java. any help is appreciated.

• Can I store and join based on external attributes in Lucene/Solr

  Is there a way to store information about documents that are stored in Lucene such that I don't have to update the entire document to update certain attributes about the documents? For instance, let's say I had a bunch of documents, and that I wanted to update a permissions list of who was allowed to see the documents on a daily, or more frequent, basis. Would it be possible to update all the permissions each day, without updating all the documents. I could do it by keeping a exactly which permissions were added and removed, but I would rather just be able to take the end list of permissions, and use that, rather than have to keep track of all the permission changes and post those entire documents to Lucene.

• how does "recent history" work on sites for php? (PHP)

  I'm not sure if there is an explanation on SO for beginners, but if so, could you provide the links. I am interested in creating a "recent viewed" function that shows what links they clicked on before. I'm not sure if this is the 'correct' way to do it, but this is what I have so far... user clicks on a link(say ad.php?posting_id=12). if the user doesn't click on the link, no cookie or session is stored for the link if the user clicks on the link, it sets a cookie for $_cookie['ad.php?posting_id=22'] Each time the user clicks, more cookies are set In the recent viewed function, it gets all the $_cookie variables and displays them. if the user wants to clear the history, just destroy all the cookies I'm not sure if this is the way to do it, but is the viable? If not, what are the steps to create a "recent viewed" function

• Django: How/Where to store a value for a session without unnecessary DB hits

  Hi all, I have an extended userprofile with AUTH_PROFILE_MODULE (ref: http://tinyurl.com/yhracqq) I would like to set a user.is_guru() method similar to user.is_active(). This would results for al views (or rather templates) to e.g. disable/enable certain user messages, displaying of widgets, etc. The boolean is stored in the extended user profile model, but I want to avoid hitting the DB for every view. So the questions is .. Do I use a context_processor, a template tag, session_dict or what have you to, possible cached, store this info for the duration of the users visit. Note: I dont have performance issues, so it's definitely filed under premature optimization. I just want to avoid generating extra work in the future :). Any pointers are very welcome.   I'm building a WSS site which has to show SVG files stored on WSS. I'm trying to use <object> tag to show it and it doesn't show, however, if I use <embed> it works ok. Im'using IE8 and IE7 I've been reading and everyone tells IE prefers <Object> over <embed>, but in WSS it doesn't work this way. To display the file I'm using a web content editor webpart with this code: <object type="image/svg+xml" data="/samples/sample.svg" name="owMain" width="400" height="150"> </object> Any clue??

  Edit: Added the fact, that the list is sorted, and realizing 'duplicate' is misleading, replaced that with 'redundant' in the title. I have a sorted list of entries stating a production value in a given interval. • Can I pass a string variable into an <a href> tag for a website link?

  I am somewhat new to web developing, so I am trying to learn along the way. I have a div that is 500 x 500. Inside of that div I have two divs that are each 250x500. So my outer div is filled up with the two inner divs. I have it setup so that when I click on the first div (the left one) a java script is called, and a prompt pop up box asks for a website URL which is then stored inside of a string variable. How can I make it so that the second div (the right one) takes the string variable from the alert box from the left div and puts it into an a href tag so that I can link to the website from the right div? Can a a href tag accept a value from a variable for its link? Maybe I am going about this all wrong, is there a better way I should be approaching this? Any help is appreciated!!

When I press the button that calls below function, it just freezes with the button pressed and does not respond. In the end, I have to terminate the application from Eclipse. Does it allocate exact 10 bytes on heap, Where information about size is stored.When i call delete on same pointer,i see in debugger that there are a lot of byte get changed before and after the 10 Bytes. • Solution for distributing MANY simple network tasks?

  I would like to create some sort of a distributed setup for running a ton of small/simple REST web queries in a production environment. For each 5-10 related queries which are executed from a node, I will generate a very small amount of derived data, which will need to be stored in a standard relational database (such as PostgreSQL). What platforms are built for this type of problem set? The nature, data sizes, and quantities seem to contradict the mindset of Hadoop. There are also more grid based architectures such as Condor and Sun Grid Engine, which I have seen mentioned. I'm not sure if these platforms have any recovery from errors though (checking if a job succeeds). What I would really like is a FIFO type queue that I could add jobs to, with the end result of my database getting updated. Any suggestions on the best tool for the job?
