  • Python: inserting double or single quotes around a string

    Im using python to access a MySQL database and im getting a unknown column in field due to quotes not being around the variable. code below: cur = x.cnx.cursor() cur.execute('insert into tempPDBcode (PDBcode) values (%s);' % (s)) rows = cur.fetchall() How do i manually insert double or single quotes around the value of s? I've trying using str() and manually concatenating quotes around s but it still doesn't work. The sql statement works fine iv double and triple check my sql query.

  • Mixing menuItem.setIntent with onOptionsItemSelected doesn't work

    While extending a sample Android activity that fires some other activities from its menu, I came to have some menu items handled within onOptionsItemSelected, and some menu items (that just fired intents) handled by calling setIntent within onCreateOptionsMenu. Basically something like: @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu); menu.add(0, MENU_ID_1, Menu.NONE, R.string.menu_text_1); menu.add(0, MENU_ID_2, Menu.NONE, R.string.menu_text_2); menu.add(0, MENU_ID_3, Menu.NONE, R.string.menu_text_3). setIntent(new Intent(this, MyActivity_3.class)); return true; } @Override public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) { super.onOptionsItemSelected(item); switch (item.getItemId()) { case (MENU_ID_1): // Process menu command 1 ... return true; case (MENU_ID_2): // Process menu command 2 ... // E.g. also fire Intent for MyActivity_2 return true; default: return false; } } Apparently, in this situation the Intent set on MENU_ID_3 is never fired, or anyway the related activity is never started. Android javadoc at some point goes like <<[if you set an intent on a menu item] and nothing else handles the item, then the default behavior will be to [start the activity with the intent]. What does it actually mean "and nothing else handles the item"? Is it enough to return false from onOptionsItemSelected? I also tried not to call super.onOptionsItemSelected(item) at the beginning and only invoke it in the default switch case, but I had same results. Does anyone have any suggestion? Does Android allow to mix the two type of handling? Thanks for your time everyone.

    I'm writing a ASP.NET application to process user submitted zip files and limiting my extraction of files from it to only the extensions I want. I've heard of infected zip files attached to emails and I was wondering if I should be concerned about extracting data from infected zip files in my application. I don't plan on executing the content inside of the zip file, but will opening and extracting from an infected zip file cause the file to execute a virus even if I'm not executing any content inside of the zip file?

    I'm attempting to run an IronRuby script from C#: var runtime = IronRuby.Ruby.CreateRuntime(); runtime.ExecuteFile("ruby/foo.rb"); foo.rb starts with a "require:" #!/usr/bin/env ruby require 'bar' When I try this, I get an exception stating "no such file to load -- bar." The file "bar.rb" and the directory "bar" are both present in the "ruby" directory. So, how do I execute a ruby script that requires other ruby files? I'm targeting .Net 3.5.

  • How to pass common arguments to Perl modules

    I'm not thrilled with the argument-passing architecture I'm evolving for the (many) Perl scripts that have been developed for some scripts that call various Hadoop MapReduce jobs. There are currently 8 scripts (of the form run_something.pl) that are run from cron. (And more on the way ... we expect anywhere from 1 to 3 more for every function we add to hadoop.) Each of these have about 6 identical command-line parameters, and a couple command line parameters that are similar, all specified with Euclid. The implementations are in a dozen .pm modules. Some of which are common, and others of which are unique.... Currently I'm passing the args globally to each module ... Inside run_something.pl I have: set_common_args (%ARGV); set_something_args (%ARGV); And inside Something.pm I have sub set_something_args { (%MYARGS) =@_; } So then I can do if ( $MYARGS{'--needs_more_beer'} ) { $beer++; } I'm seeing that I'm probably going to have additional "common" files that I'll want to pass args to, so I'll have three or four set_xxx_args calls at the top of each run_something.pl, and it just doesn't seem too elegant. On the other hand, it beats passing the whole stupid argument array down the call chain, and choosing and passing individual elements down the call chain is (a) too much work (b) error-prone (c) doesn't buy much. In lots of ways what I'm doing is just object-oriented design without the object-oriented language trappings, and it looks uglier without said trappings, but nonetheless ... Anyone have thoughts or ideas?

    I want to parse a html-page that unfortunately requires JavaScript to show any content. In order to do so I use a small python-script that pulls the html-code of the page, but after that I have to execute the JavaScript in a DOM-context which seems pretty hard. To make it even harder I want to use it in a server environment that has no X11-server. Note: I already read about http://code.google.com/p/pywebkitgtk/ but it seems to need a X-server.

Could not listen on port 1527 on host localhost: java.net.BindException: Address already in use How do I find out what process is already using, or bound to that port?     First question Please, could you explain me how simpliest ACL could be implemented in MVC. Next approach is to make all controller's methods private and add ACL code into controller's __call method. <?php class MyController extends Controller { private function myMethod() { ... } public function __call($name, $params) { //It is just abstract code $acl = new Acl(); $acl->setController(__CLASS__); $acl->setMethod($name); $acl->getRole(); if (!$acl->allowed()) die("You're not allowed to do it!"); ... } } ?> It is better than previous code, but main minuses are... All controller's methods should be private We have to add ACL code into each controller's __call method. The next approach is to put Acl code into parent Controller, but we still need to keep all child controller's methods private. What is the solution? And what is the best practice? Where should I call Acl functions to decide allow or disallow method to be executed. Second question Second question is about getting role using Acl. Let's imagine that we have guests, users and user's friends. User have restricted access to viewing his profile that only friends can view it. All guests can't view this user's profile. So, here is the logic.. we have to ensure that method being called is profile we have to detect owner of this profile we have to detect is viewer is owner of this profile or no we have to read restriction rules about this profile we have to decide execute or not execute profile method The main question is about detecting owner of profile. We can detect who is owner of profile only executing model's method $model-getOwner(), but Acl do not have access to model. How can we implement this? I hope that my thoughts are clear.   • Rebuilding old (2010) django project in 2012

    I am trying to make an old Django project run again. After seemingly having solved issues with old sorl.thumbnail versions and deprecated expressions I now get this error when running python manage.py runserver I also tried to copy & paste my old files into a new Django project and get the exactly same error.     I am trying to read the Excel Named range using OLEDB using the below code "Select * from [MyNamedRange1]" everything works fine only when the source excel sheet is not opened if it is open then i am not able to read the range names using OLEDB it simply hangs Where as i am able to execute the query "Select * from [Sheet1$]" even if the workbook is open or closed... Any work arounds for reading the range by OLEDB only i dont want to go for interop... I have too many ranges defined in the excel file

    Is it possible to set a default behaviour for custom (non-native) methods/functions in Java? For example, I would like to change the default "Function" to do a System.out.println("message") whenever called. So, when a custom method/function is being created: public String testMethod() { //custom code } it should execute the newly added default behaviour (in this case the system output), before the custom code is run. Even if this would be a bad excercise, is it possible? Maybe by extending the function class or something?
