how powerful is Bluetooth programming on Android? is it possible to add new protocols and encryption techniques? or even change in the current protocols? does it support bluetooth 2.1+EDR?
What are the best practices for using Java's @Override annotation and why?
It seems like it would be overkill to mark every single overridden method with the @Override annotation. Are there certain programming situations that call for using the @Override and others that should never use the @Override?
hello.
In meta-programming number of classes grows quite fast.
Is maximum number of classes modern compiler allows, for example g++, something to be concerned about?
Thank you
I am new to C++ programming, but I have experience in Java. I need guidance on how to pass objects to functions in C++.
Do I need to pass pointers, references, or non-pointer and non-reference values? I remember in Java there are no such issues since we pass just the variable that holds reference to the objects.
It would be great if you could also explain where to use each of those options.
I have an old laptop Lenovo SL400 (Core2Due T9550 2.66GHz / 4GB DDR2 Ram). Since I can't afford to buy a new laptop, I thought maybe I could throw an ADATA SP600 64GB SSD as primary drive and move my current HDD to DVD-ROM space by using HDDCADDY. I know that 64gb will come short after installing Visual Studio, SQL Server, etc. So is there anyway to just install the kernel part of windows on SSD and the rest on HDD. Doesn't windows have built-in support to do this? (ReadyBoost is out of picture since it's just simple caching)

Pretty basic programming question, I know PHP have a function for it, but does the iPhone OS have one?
I want to check if the current indexPath is a value in an array.
PHP Example:
<?php
$indexPath = 3;
$array = array("0", "1", "2", "3", "4");
if (in_array($indexPath, $array)) {
// Do something
}
?>
Does anybody know how to do the same thing inthe iPhone OS?

Is it practically possible to create a triangle of stars like this as below in SQL.I know that this could be done easily in any other programming language like C,C++,Java but want to know whether it is really possible with just SQL or PL/SQL.I tried working on it with dual table in Oracle but couldn't get through it.

I want a simple timeline component (like in video editing software) for a clojure/seesaw app and I am wondering if it is a good approach to implement this directly with clojure and seesaw or if I should write it in java and make my clojure wrapper around it.
Or more generally: is a functional programming language optimal for writing UI widgets? I cannot imagine doing that without a lot of state involved. And wasn't OO invented for UI-development in the first place?
Hi all!
I would like to know: when programming in C using a socket (AF_UNIX) is there any limit (in bytes) when sending or receiving to or from a socket?
Thank you!

I'm currently investigating what the runtime of different programming languages looks like behind the scenes. For a compiled language like C, people usually give the explanation of "Code is compiled to assembly which is assembled and linked into a binary executable. The executable is then loaded into memory and the CPU interprets it." My question is how does the CPU know where to look for the next instruction to execute? Is it a memory address stored in one of the registers?
I'm good at learning new languages and platforms, though whenever I try to learn Reg Ex I cannot make sense of it. I once even used the Regular Expression Designer to try and put some together.
What's a good starting point to understanding what looks like the only rocket-science programming language in the world?
Links to articles, books or anything else that could help me get my grounding would be appreciated.
I'm trying to use Eclipse + PyDev for studying OpenGL programming but when I type
from OpenGL.GL import *
from OpenGL.GLUT import *
IDE becomes extremely slow!
Ok. It isn't a smart idea import to much useless things but it's so useful for learning a new library!
Any help?
PS: I use Ubuntu with Eclipse Galileo.
I have a basic html form that adds some data to the page using PHP. I want to make this form field a "Price" field. My html is:
<input class="bids" name="comment" id="comment" tabindex="4" />
How can I fix this field so that users can't enter random letters, dollar signs, dashes, or other weird formats. I want the output to be whole dollars. Sorry I'm a complete programming moron. :)
Sometimes I want to do something (for example, playing a simple text-mode game) while the system is booting up. This is especially useful when lengthy reiserfs transaction replays are happening.
Current hacky way of doing it is:
Put the program on initramfs.
Before running /sbin/init, "openvt 2 /my/program".
Turn off messages from kernel (sysrq 0)
Override /dev/console with /dev/null (to prevent boot messages).
The problems are:
There are STILL some messages interfering with program output.
I can't see boot messages by switching to that virtual terminal back.
After finishing the boot sequence, /dev/tty2 ends up being attached both to getty and my program.
How to do it properly without of running graphical splashes?
The system is Linux Debian Squeeze, no dependency based sysv scripts.
PHP was the undisputed king of easy webapp development, until Ruby on Rails, Django, and other dynamic programming frameworks appeared. What are, in your opinion, PHP's strengths against the newcomers?
Hi,
I am basically working on unix and c programming.
i want to start learning Pro*c on unix.
Is there any good online tutorial which will help me start writing simple programs in pro*c and compiling those Pro*c files.?
Thanks in advance for your help.
I have a Linux server with 2 1Gb network interfaces eth1 and eth2. If I start 2 clients listening to the same multicast address and each client connects through a different NIC (say client 1 listens to the multicast through eth1 and client 2 through eth2), then client 2 gets duplicate UDP packets.
If both clients use the same interface eth1 on the other hand, both clients work fine.
I have already tried to set arp_filter and proxy_arp to 1 (arp flux issue) but it hasn't solved the issue. Is this a Linux kernel problem? Or is there another way to setup the interfaces correctly?
I would like to add a favorites tab to my iphone app that i am developing. I am using core data to populate a UITableView and would like in the detailed view to be able to add the selected item to the users favorites.
Would i go about this by adding the selected item to a new array?
I am very new to xcode and iphone programming so as much help and code would be gratefully received.
Hi All
right now I am moving first steps in clustering.
I installed MPICH2 on my Ubuntu at home and I have a silly question about it. For what I am reading right now it seems that it provides the capability of sending processes to other pcs. I went for this lib just because I set it up very quickly and easily.
Compared to MPICH2 , do you know what is the advantage of having a different clustering system like KERRYGHED? It seems that these ones also provide this capability, but the Kernel must be rebuild, so I suppose that it is going to be faster.
What other advantages are remarkable for a clustering system like this? Thanks
I'm trying to test a ethernet bridging device. I have multiple ethernet ports on a linux box. I would like to send packets out one interface, say eth0 with IP 192.168.1.1, to another interface, say eth1 with IP 192.168.1.2, on the same subnet.
I realize that normally you don't configure two interfaces on the same subnet, and if you do the kernel routes directly to each interface, rather than over the wire. How can I override this behavior, so that traffic to 192.168.1.2 goes out the 192.168.1.1 interface, and visa-versa?
Thanks in advance!
(1) mount -t nfs remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint -o owner,rw
(2) mount -v -t nfs remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint -o owner,rw
(1) Used to work with Ubuntu 9 and now fails with Ubuntu 10 (2.6.32-21-generic kernel) with the error:
mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified
Strangely, adding -v (verbose) in (2) makes the problem go away.
This is currently a blocker for me because the fstab line:
remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint nfs owner,rw 0 0
causes the same error (I don't believe I can specify verbose in fstab).
Is this a bug in mount or my options really incorrect?
I'm rather new with the whole OSX programming, I wanted to stick a WebView into an empty app. Apparently it isn't as simple as sticking a WebView on a window in interface builder and creating an outlet.
IBOutlet WebView *webView;
It gives me a
expected specifier-qualifier-list before 'WebView'
and when I don't use an outlet, it terminates due to uncaught exception. I'm not too sure what these error messages mean.
Seems it isn't that simple!
