  • Changing keyboard layout on application focus

    Hi Everyone As everybody knows the en-US Keyboard-layout is the best one for programming. So I'd like to use it in my IDEs. But since I live in a non-en-US country I need the de-CH layout for all other applications. Now I wonder if it is possible to set the layout depending to which application currently has the focus. If that is possible, can a human brain adapt to such a behaviour or is it just confusing? cheers, AC

    When drawing parallel vertical lines with a fixed distance between them (1.75 pixels) with a non-integer x-value-offset to both lines, the lines are drawn differently based on the offset. In the picture below are two pairs of very close together vertical lines. As you can see, they look very different. This is frustrating, especially when animating the sprite.     I was wondering if there was a way to extract all the values of a column, and then save each value into separate text files (labeled ANYTHING, 1-100 works fine). I know how to do this through another language, but I'm using SQL Server 2008 with Microsoft SQL Server Manager and it would save me some time from figuring out how to do it through C#.

    I need to write a firefox extension that creates a server socket (I think that's what it's called) and returns the browser's current url when a client application (running on the same computer) sends it a request. The thing is that I have no Java/Javascript background at all and I'm pressed for time so I am trying to hack something together from code samples. So far I've been mildly successful. So far I can telnet into localhost and get a response, but my string comparison in the reader seems to fail even if I enter "foo". I don't get why. What am I missing? The sample code I'm using opens up a console window and prints output when I telnet into localhost. Ideally I would like the output to be returned as a response when the client sends a request to the server socket with a passphrase. How do I go about doing that? Is doing this a good idea? Does it create security vulnerabilities on the computer? How can I block connections to the socket from other computers? What is a good place to read about javascript sockets? My google searches have been pretty fruitless but then maybe I'm not using the right keywords.

I'm currently stuck on the basics of basics: How to install and configure sql server How to connect to it I installed Sql Server through Web Platform Installer, and have Visual Studio 2008 installed. Still, I can't understand how to connect to my server: I see that the SQL service itself (SQLEXPRESS) is running in both in services.msc and Sql Server Configuration Manager I try to connect to it via the Management Studio, but I don't understand what to do. Where do I begin?

  • Possible to recover older, previously deleted files with R-studio?

    The files and directories on one of my ntfs partition were wiped out last time. I used R-studio to scan the partition, and it did find many files, actually more than the capacity of the partition. This is because R-studio found files that were deleted even earlier. So I wonder if it is possible to specify those files and directories deleted last time instead of those deleted earlier for recovery? R-studio has a free demo version, for which scanning is free,but recovery isn't.     Can I assert rails/sinatra apps are initialized only once and all requests share the same app instance? or do new requests spawn new app instances? Is it possible to instance custom classes and persist them during app lifetime without using sessions, database storages or third party services?   • Why is the Objective-C Boolean data type defined as a signed char?

    Something that has piqued my interest is Objective-C's BOOL type definition. Why is it defined as a signed char (which could cause unexpected behaviour if a value greater than 1 byte in length is assigned to it) rather than as an int, as C does (much less margin for error: a zero value is false, a non-zero value is true)? The only reason I can think of is the Objective-C designers micro-optimising storage because the char will use less memory than the int. Please can someone enlighten me?

For whatever reason, I have found that when using JTA, you MUST specify a JNDI data source within persistence.xml as well. This is fine, unless you are trying to go integration testing outside a container and JNDI is not available. My questions are: a) is there anyway to inject a jdbc datasource into my JTA transaction manager? b) if not, how do a handle a JNDI lookup during integration testing?
