• Lightweight web browser for testing

  I have e very specific test setup in mind. I would like to start a web-browser that understands Javascript and can use HTTP proxy, point it to a URL (ideally by specifying it in the command line along with the proxy config), wait for the page to load while listening (in the proxy) requests are generated as web-page is rendered and Javascript is executed, then kill the whole thing and restart. I don't care about how the page renders graphically at all. Which browser or tool should I use for this? Ideally it should be something self-contained that doesn't require installation (just an EXE file that runs from command line). Lynx would have been ideal but for the fact that it doesn't support JS. It should have as small memory footprint as possible.

• What's the official Microsoft way to track counts of dynamic controls to be reconstructed upon Postback?

  When creating dynamic controls based on a data source of arbitrary and changing size, what is the official way to track exactly how many controls need to be rebuilt into the page's control collection after a Postback operation (i.e. on the server side during the ASP.NET page event lifecycle) specifically the point at which dynamic controls are supposed to be rebuilt? Where is the arity stored for retrieval and reconstruction usage? By "official" I mean the Microsoft way of doing it. There exist hacks like Session storage, etc but I want to know the bonafide or at least Microsoft-recommended way. I've been unable to find a documentation page stating this information. Usually code samples work with a set of dynamic controls of known numbers. It's as if doing otherwise would be tougher. Update: I'm not inquiring about user controls or static expression of declarative controls, but instead about dynamically injecting controls completely from code-behind, whether they be mine, 3rd-party or built-in ASP.NET controls.

• Session in Iframe working in Firefox but not in Internet Explorer

  Im trying to get a form working in Internet Explorer. I see that when i submit this form in Firefox I can start a session and send my webbrowser to the right page based on that Session. In Internet Explorer however when i'm debugging the $_SESSION i retrieve an empty array back, this means that in Internet Explorer the session isn't started on my second page. • Drupal: Two-way communication between unregistered customer and admin

  I need to setup a system where customers can choose to Request a Quote for a specific holiday package, where they will enter their personal details as well as their holiday requirements (number of rooms, etc.) and will then allow them to view a page which will have a threaded conversation between them and the admin (so the admin can reply to their quote request on the website). The problem is that most customers won't be registered when they want to request a quote, so I was thinking that the Request a Quote page could silently register the customer as a user (using their personal details) on the same page where it asks for their holiday requirements. The other option I can think of would be to not register them and just email them a unique URL where they can view their quote request and reply to the admin. Could you point me in the right direction on how to do either of those?

• jQuery fadeout a div that's revealed by php and not Javascript?

  Seems like this might be easy, but from reading other SO answers there are a number of ways for it to possibly work: I have the "thanks" div below that shows when a php form is sucessfully submitted: <?php if(isset($emailSent) && $emailSent == true) { ?> <div class="thanks"></div> The page does not reload after the form is submitted; the php for the form is included in the page header, the php above is in <body>, and when the form is submitted, the "thanks" div appears. Question: How can the div be faded out (or simply removed) after a few seconds? Document ready doesn't seem like it would work because the page is not reloaded. Can jQuery detect the appearance of the div and then start the fadeout timer? If possible, I'd like to stay with the php form and not move to a jQuery form.

• How do I include 2 tables in one LocalStorage item?

  I've got a table that you can edit, and I've got a simple code saving that list when you're done with editing it. (the tables have the contenteditable on) The problem I've stumbled upon is that if I double click on enter, the table gets divided into two separate tables with the same ID. This causes the code I'm using to set the localStorage to only store one of the tables (I assume the first).. I've thought of different solutions and I wonder if someone could point out the pro's and con's (if the solutions even works that is). Make a loop that checks the page after tables and stores them into an array of localStorage-items.. I'd have to dynamically create a localStorage item for each table. Take the whole div that the tables are in, and store that in the localStorage, when a user revisits the page, the page checks after the items in storage and displays the whole divs. Any suggestions you have that can beat this :).. (but no cache, it has to be with the localStorage!) Thanks

• Apache - slow response

  Hi, I have a Ubuntu 64-bit 10.04 LTS box running Virtualmin and Apache2, fully updated. It's an ESX VM with 2GB RAM. There are currently two sites (one CMS and one Wordpress 3) running on the server and both have the same issue. The request takes about 5s and then the page loads. This behaving seems to be the case with all page loads. I'm looking for advice on where to start troubleshooting. Thanks, Sean

  hi , I have a web page devoloped in visual studio 2008. I have 4 dropdowns and a repeater in the page.based on the selection(search criteria) from the dropdowns the repeater value will change. and one dropdown selection will bind values to the other dropdown also. Since the page is causing a lot of postback we decided to implement ajax here. I am yet to learn ajax. Can anyone tell what is the best way to do this .which ajax control replace dropdowns? i have already server side code written on all dropdowns. • iframe form not submitting in IE7

  For some reason I can submit the form data on this Review and Submit page here in Chrome and FF but not IE7: https://checkout.netsuite.com/s.nl?c=659197&n=1&sc=4&category=confirm Email:[email protected] Pass:test03 Click on "here" where it says "Your Third Party Shipper Numbers (To enter one, click here.)" I removed my javascript that automatically refreshes the page to make sure that wasn't refreshing before anything was submitted somehow. Could the difference in IE7 have to do with the fact that the domain of the form (forms.netsuite.com) is different than the domain of the parent page(checkout.netsuite.com) and it's being submitted over HTTPS?

• ASP.NET MVC 2 client side validation not working for Html.ValidationMessage()?

  I'm trying to get a very simple client side validation example to work in ASP.NET MVC 2. I'm using data annotations to set a required property "Surname". When I use the Html.ValidationMessageFor(x = x.Surname) the correct client side validation script is written to the page. But when I use Html.ValidationMessage("Surname") the client side validation is not rendered out until after the page has been posted. Client side validation only starts working after a form post! I can see that the script is updated in the page after a form post. There appears to be a bug in Html.ValidationMessage()?

  Currently, I'm using a strategy found on many blog posts. Basically, the URL contains the page number (e.g. /Users/List/5 will give you the users on page 5 of your paged list of users). However, I'm not running into a situation where one page must list two separate paged lists. How do I go about doing this using ASP.NET MVC? Do I simply provide two url parameters (e.g. /Users/List?page1=1&page2=2)? Is there a better way by using partial views?

  Is there a way to restart a browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc) automatically upon receiving an error such as a DNS error or Page not found? Background: It is for a web based signage application that has intermittent network drop outs, therefore if there's no internet, and the sign tries to go to the next page, an error occurs on browser, and we get one big ugly sign. We need a way to either restart the browser, or customise displayed error messages to use javascript to try redirection to the live sign again.

  I have asked this question here about a Python command that fetches a URL of a web page and stores it in a variable. The first thing that I wanted to know then was whether or not the variable in this code contains the HTML code of a web-page: from google.appengine.api import urlfetch url = "http://www.google.com/" result = urlfetch.fetch(url) if result.status_code == 200: doSomethingWithResult(result.content) The answer that I received was "yes", i.e. the variable "result" in the code did contain the HTML code of a web page, and the programmer who was answering said that I needed to "check the Content-Type header and verify that it's either text/html or application/xhtml+xml". I've looked through several Python tutorials, but couldn't find anything about headers. So my question is where is this Content-Type header located and how can I check it? Could I send the content of that variable directly to my mailbox? Here is where I got this code. It's on Google App Engines.

  Hi, I'm looking for a way to display a message to the user if he leaves my site after only viewing one page. Do you know a better solution or how to fix it in the above code? I'm no javascript master :) My intention is to add the code on very specific landing pages only, and display the message when people leave the page without downloading my trial software or reading other pages on my site.

  If you ask a DB2/zOS engine DBA a question about DB2's behavior, the DBA will refer to the DB2 engine as "he" much the way a sailor uses "she" to refer to his ship. For example: "Once you fill the freespace, DB2 still wants to keep those rows in cluster order in the tablespace. That's why he'll split that page in half, and you end up with lots of half-empty pages. That is, unless the cluster key of the row you've just inserted is the highest in the table, in which case he makes a new empty page, and he puts just your new row into that page. So I wouldn't have to do this REORG if you would just sort your input like I suggested." Does anyone know where this tradition comes from?

  Hello everyone! I'm having a problem with printing. Is it possible to print a (customized) DataGrid which doesn't fit the page? a) Using a ViewBox to make it fit one page. My problem here is that I can get the PrintableArea.Width and PrintableArea.Height in the PrintPage EventHandler, from the PrintPageEventArgs, but in that Event Handler I can't set the size of an UIElement before it gets printed. b) Multiple pages. Is it possible somehow to print the whole DataGrid, even the parts which are not visible (don't fit the page) and to somehow make the PrintableArea only a part of the DataGrid?

• multiple jQuery Cycle slideshows get superimposed

  I'm using the jQuery cycle plugin to create multiple slideshows on a single page (which, once I get this problem figured out, will be started/stopped by mouse hover -- yeah, I know there are 9 slideshows on the page). Problem is, when I tell more than one slideshow to start cycling, whichever ones I call cycle() on get superimposed. So, all the images from slide 1 are superimposed, then they all transition to slide 2, etc. I can tell they're being superimposed because the first slide of each slideshow contains a transparent PNG. This happens whether I call cycle() in a jQuery each() iterator, or even if I call it by hand on just two or three of the containers with a jQuery id selector. • Play Video on Safari iTouch

  I have a web site that opens iframe for video on page, page uses ajax to pull in videos from selected menu. As expected and understood, on iTouch after selecting video it shows a play button, which brings up video in another screen. However, when the video completes, it returns browser to page prior to one where video was played from. Sequence: - open Page1 - go to Page2 which offers videos to play, in iframe - play video - video completes, returns to Page1, not Page2!! Only happens on iTouch, so must be issue with how control is returned on video completion. Any suggestions? If this is not a known problem, I can work up example (currently, need account on site). • HTML Links on IzPack HTMLInfoPanel not working correctly

  In my installer (created using IzPack) i am using HTMLInfoPanel, in the HTML data for this info panel I have a website link and an email address. The problem is 1) When I click on the website link, the page is opened in the Installer panel itself, instead of open the page in the default browse window. 2) When I click on the email link, the page in the panel just refreshes and does nothing instead of opening the mail client for the user. Its a huge application with dynamic master pages and usercontrols etc..So i cant paste the exact code here. • Javascript image change causes embeded UserControls to flicker

  I have a n html page being displayed in IE. It has some buttons made up of images with mouseover/mouseout events on them in JavaScript, and a bunch of embedded .Net UserControls. When the mouseover/mouseout events fire, I change the images src to something else (simple rollover effect). The problem is that the UserControls often (but not always) flicker when this happens. To be clear, the images don't flicker, and the rest of the page doesn't flicker, just the embedded controls. This page is local, not coming from a server or anything. So, any ideas? More information : I've noticed that highlighting text does it too...
