• Writing temporary data from R

  I want to write some temporary data to disk in an R package, and I want to be sure that it can run on every OS without assuming the user has admin rights. Is there an existing R function that can provide a path to a temporary directory on all major OS's? Or a way to reference a user's home directory? Otherwise, I was thinking of trying this: Sys.getenv("temp") I presume that I can't expect people to have write access to their R locations, otherwise I could reference a path within the package directory: .find.package("package.name").

• How do I set the Execute Permissions for an IIS6 website with Powershell using WMI?

  In inetmgr you can set the property I desire by going to Home Directory - Application Settings - Execute Permissions - and setting the drop down to 'Scripts Only'. I'm trying to replicate this behavior in Powershell. The Target OS is Windows Server 2003 running IIS6. Currently I have this simple code to get the site: $Site = get-wmiobject -Namespace root\MicrosoftIISv2 -query ('select * from IISWebServerSetting where ServerComment="mySite"') There are lots of properties it might be but nothing really leaps out. I've tried changing the setting in inetmgr and dumping the properties out before and after, but I see no differences (it could be a child property though). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  I have an ASP.NET MVC-application which I want deployable on both IIS6 and IIS7 and as we all know, IIS6 needs the ".mvc"-naming in the URL. Will this code work to make sure it works on all IIS-versions?   I've modified my .htaccess file to have the following statement RewriteCond $1 !^index.php$ RewriteRule ^/?([^/]+)$ index.php?c=home&m=details&seo=$1 [L,NS] This allows me to use product URL's like this: http://domain.com/product_name However, when trying to access a file at the same level as index.php, it always calls the RewriteRule above and errors out. I need to be able to access files like below, but each URL currently attempts to load index.php. http://domain.com/about.htm http://domain.com/terms.htm http://domain.com/robots.txt etc Any suggestions on how I can modify my htaccess file to get this to work correctly?

  In a brand new ASP.NET MVC2 project, I want the user to be redirected to http://<mysite>/home/index rather than http://<mysite>/ We do this with our other sites for tracking purposes, to avoid the scenario where hits to the same default page show up as http://<mysite>/ http://<mysite>/default.aspx How do I accomplish this so that http://<mysite>/ automatically redirects to whatever default controller/action I have set up in my routing? Please note that I am aware the two are functionally equivalent, as the default controller action will be executed either way. I'm just interested in forcing consistent URLs in the browser.

  I am going to develop a Google Gadget container site, that will be able to host OpenSocial compatible widgets (that I believe are Google gadgets, too, right?). Do you have any guidance where to start? I know that the good start is the iGoogle Developer Home site and that framework what I would like exists - Shindig, but is little clumsy. Tutorial links do not work, for start. Do you think it would be wise to use Shindig? Maybe just for a start and then develop any customizations, if needed? Or would be wiser to start from scratch? So where to start? Do you have any advices, tips or other useful resources to get on faster with this topic? I guess I can start with Compliance - Gadget Server?

I have a tabbed navigation menu that I want to make role specific i.e. everyones sees 'Home', one role would be able to see additional tabs, another would be able to see three, etc. Doe sthe allow for such a thing? Then for checking if it works I executed the page using the preview button. The value appeared fine but when I refreshed the page, the value of the template variable disappeared ?   This is probably a really really beginner's question, but I would like to know what's the fastest way to get my site on the web so that people can start using it. I'm learning everything about programming out of books and at home so I don't have much experience. --Before I go to like godaddy.com or such site to get a domain name, is there any free sites that would allow me to upload my site so users can use it? I have html,css,php,mysql,javascipt in my scripts so I don't think many sites allow free uploads with such languages. --If I can't find a free site, is there any good places to get a domain name and web hosting that supports most languages at a low price? (doesn't have to be professional hosting because I am still a beginner) --If I go to say godaddy.com and get their webhosting and domain name, would I be allowed to run php,mysql,python,java on it? (I looked at some hosting sites and most only allow php/mysql)

  I have developed a HTTP Handler Web Service, and have had it successfully deployed, through testing on other environments i've ran into another problem. This is the error message I receive: You have attempted to execute a CGI, ISAPI, or other executable program from a directory that does not allow programs to be executed. HTTP Error 403.1 - Forbidden: Execute access is denied. Internet Information Services (IIS) So it is obvious what needs to be fixed, so: 1) Start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. 2) Right-click the Web site that contains the SharePoint Web site that you created, and then click Properties. 3) Click the Home Directory tab. 4) Under Application settings, click either Scripts only in the Execute permissions list or Scripts and Executables in the Execute permissions list (as appropriate to your situation). Click OK. 5) Quit IIS Manager. But I'm still getting the same error. So what else could be wrong?

  I can't get expand_aliases to take effect in bash. I've tried a lot of different things, and nothing works. • PHP calling PostgreSQL function - type issue?

  I have a function in PostgreSQL / plpgsql with the following signature: CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION user_login(TEXT, TEXT) RETURNS SETOF _get_session AS $$ ... $$ Where _get_session is a view. The function works fine when calling it from phpPgAdmin, however whan I call it from PHP I get the following error: Warning: pg_query() [function.pg-query]: Query failed: ERROR: type "session_ids" does not exist CONTEXT: compile of PL/pgSQL function "user_login" near line 2 in /home/sites/blah.com/index.php on line 69 The DECLARE section of the function contains the following variables: oldSessionId session_ids := $1; newSessionId session_ids := $2; The domain session_ids DOES exist, and other functions which use the same domain work when called from the same script. The PHP is as follows: $query = "SELECT * FROM $dbschema.user_login('$session_old'::TEXT, '$session'::TEXT)"; $result = pg_query($login, $query); I have also tried this using ::session_ids in place of ::TEXT when calling the function, however I recieve the same error. • cannot edit any php files using specific functions

  I cannot update any txt files using php. I just cannot see any updates on bob.txt. Is this a permission error in windows? It works fine on my laptop at home. I also cannot change the php files on my website, using filezilla.

  I'm using GNU/Linux distro (Arch, if that's relevant), Emacs v23.2.1, ESS v5.9 and AucTeX v11.86. I want to setup AucTeX to recognize .Rnw files, so I can run LaTeX on .Rnw files with C-c C-c and get .dvi file automatically. I reckon it's quite manageable by editing .emacs file, but I still haven't got a firm grasp on Elisp. Yet another problem is quite annoying - somehow, LaTeX is not recognizing \usepackage{Sweave} in preambule, so I actually need to copy Sweave.sty file (in my case located in /usr/share/R/texmf/Sweave.sty) to directory where .Rnw file is located (and I'm getting more frustrated with the fact that this is common bug on Windows platforms!) My question boils down to two problems: how to make LaTeX recognize \usepackage{Sweave} (without copying Sweave.sty to "home" folder each time) how to setup AucTeX to compile .Rnw files to .dvi

  hello everyone, I picked up a new server to do some testing and need of a little help in setting up my environment at home. Here is what I would like to do: The test server will be used to test new code and configurations for a SaaS product. I would like from my laptop to enter www.acme.com and have it hit the server. The server is connected to a wireless router. I have windows server 2008 with IIS running on an an IP of 192.168.1.4. What is the best way to set this up? I want to hit the test server for www.acme.com and not go out to the internet. Do i need to mess with the LMHosts file? Thanks for the help. Im sure its easy but have never done this before.

• Importing Python module from the Bash

  I am launching a Python script from the command line (Bash) under Linux. I need to open Python, import a module, and then have lines of code interpreted. The console must then remain in Python (not quit it). How do I do that? I have tried an alias like this one: alias program="cd /home/myname/programs/; python; import module; line_of_code" But this only starts python and the commands are not executed (no module import, no line of code treated). What is the proper way of doing this, provided I need to keep Python open (not quit it) after the script is executed? Many thanks.

  I've installed PostgreSQL and PostGIS, and now I'm trying to follow these instructions: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/gis/install/#spatialdb-template But I keep getting the following error, both in the command prompt and in Cygwin: C:\Users\Home>createdb -E UTF8 template_postgis createdb: could not connect to database postgres: could not connect to server: No such file or directory Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"? And I know PostgreSQL is running, because I'm using it right now! Installing open source applications can sometimes be so frustrating... I'll be very grateful for your help!

• rundll32.exe constantly running taking up resources slowing down my Win 7 computer

  Over the past week, my Windows 7 Home Premium computer (8gb RAM, 64bit) has been running slowly. When I look at my processes, there are always 2 rundll32.exe's running taking up 3 & 25% CPU power, memory slowly creeping upwards from around 115mb to 160mb each in the time it has taken me to right this message, sometimes popping upt o 300mb and back down. Svchost.exe is at 260mb. When I end those processes, everything returns to snappiness. I recently did some Windows Updates, and I think it was around the time my computer started acting slowly, but I can't remember if it was before or after the updates that things started running slowly. Last night I ccleaned & defrag'ed. How can I diagnose what's causing the slowness?
