• Use jQuery to show a div only when scroll position is between 2 points

  Hi, I'm trying to work out how to get a div (#tips) to appear when the user scrolls into the 2nd quarter of its containing div's height (#wrap), and then have it disappear when the user scrolls into the last quarter.   Hello, I have a Silverlight application in which I implemented MVVM pattern. In my application there is a child window on which I have ComboBox. I bound ItemsSource and SelectedItem of my combobox to a property (typeof ObservableCollection) and property of MyType appropriately. MyType is a "MODEL" derived from INotifyPropertyChanged. When my window is loaded I set values to this properties. But my combobox doesn't display selected item. I found that when I set property which is bound to selected item (in ViewModel), the PropertyChanged event is null. Can anyone help me. Thanks.

In my Administration-Tool (TOAD) I can see them very well: "Mantel für Damen" (Jacket for Women) This is my C# Code (simplified): var oracleCommand = new OracleCommand(sqlGetArticles, databaseConnection); var articleResult = oracleCommand.ExecuteReader(); string temp = articleResult.Read()["SomeField"].ToString(); Console.WriteLine(temp); The output is: "Mantel f?r Damen" Tryed on Debugging (moving mouse over variable), Debug-Window, Console-Window, File. I think I have to specify the Encoding/Character Set somwhere. But where?

• New to AVL tree implementation.

  I am writing a sliding window compression algorithm (LZ77) that searches for phrases in a "moving" dictionary. So far I have written a BST where each node is stored in an array and it's index in the array is also the value of the starting position in the window itself. I am now looking at transforming the BST to an AVL tree. I am a little confused at the sample implementations I have seen. Some only appear to store the balance factors whereas others store the height of each tree. Are there any performance advantage/disadvantages of storing the height and/or balance factor for each node? Apologies if this is a very simple question, but I'm still not visualizing how I want to restructure my BST to implement height balancing. Thanks.

  I'm trying to create my first custom Google Gadget to be used privately in my company's Google Sites intranet. Ideally I'd like to just show a thumbnail that the user can click that will open a modal window with the full video. This requires my including a couple of small JS libraries in my widget. For my widget I created this XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Module> <ModulePrefs title="Video Demos" /> <Content view="url" href="http://www.website.com/_gadgets/video.php"> </Content> </Module> The "video.php" page has simple HTML on it and includes two JS files for the modal window using but doesn't work. Are you not able to include external scripts like this? If not, what are my options here?

• linux display drivers

  I've run into a major display problem on newly installed fedora 11, on my 6 years old pc which runs a pentium4 2.4 GHz processor, 1 gb ddr ram, intel 845 motherboard with integrated graphics card. When i open an image or play a video, my complete screen turns garbled. I simply cannot make out whats on my screen. With difficulty i have to close the image/video window and move around the folder window to clean the screen image. Is it because of my display drivers? How can i fix it? I also ran into mp3 plugins and flash issues which i was able to resovle. I'm new to linux, the sole purpose of isntalling it on my old pc was to learn linux but this display problem is frustrating me. Thanks, Salman

• Opening Visual Studio created XAML in Expression Blend

  I have created a console application using Visual Studio 2008. In a few cases, this application shows a WPF dialog. Now, the design view of Visual Studio is a little limited, so I'd like to edit this dialog using Expression Blend 3. Blend does not seem to have an option to load individual XAML files, and when I open my solution in Blend, only the XAML code is displayed when I try to edit the dialog. Edit: I've noticed, that no IntelliSense is available in the text view either. When I create a new WPF Project inside Blend, and copy my dialog there (overwriten MainWindows.xaml), I get a design view. What do I have to do to actually get a design view here?   In short, I want to detect a touch on the navigation controller titlebar, but having trouble actually catching any touches at all! Everything is done without IB, if that makes a difference. My app delegate's .m file contains: MyViewController *viewController = [[MyViewController alloc] init]; navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:viewController]; [window addSubview:navigationController.view]; There are a few other subviews added to this window in a way that overlays navigationController leaving only the navigation bar visible. MyViewController is a subclass of UIViewController and its .m file contains: - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { for (UITouch *touch in touches) { NSLog(@"ended\n"); } } -(void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { for (UITouch *touch in touches) { NSLog(@"began\n"); } } I also tried putting these functions directly into app delegate's .m file, but the console remains blank.   I configured properties for my django project under pydev. I can run the django app under pydev or under console window. I can also run unittest for app under console window. But I have problems to run unittest under pydev. I guess it's something related to run configurations of pydev, so I made several trials, but with no success. Once I got messages like this: ImportError: Could not import settings 'D:\django_projects\MyProject' (Is it on sys.path? Does it have syntax errors?): No module named D:\django_projects\MyProject ERROR: Module: MyUnittestFile could not be imported. Another time I got messages like this: ImportError: Could not import settings 'MyProject.settngs' (Is it on sys.path? Does it have syntax errors?): No module named settngs 'ERROR: Module: MyUnittestFile could not be imported. I use pydev 1.5.6 on eclipse and windows xp. Any ideas for this problem?

• BizTalk and SQL: Alternatives to the SQL receive adapter. Using Msmq to receive SQL data

  If we have to get data from the SQL database, the standard way is to use a receive port with SQL adapter. SQL receive adapter is a solicit-response adapter. It periodically polls the SQL database with queries. That’s only way it can work. Sometimes it is undesirable. With new WCF-SQL adapter we can use the lightweight approach but still with the same principle, the WCF-SQL adapter periodically solicits the database with queries to check for the new records. Imagine the situation when the new records can appear in very broad time limits, some - in a second interval, others - in the several minutes interval. Our requirement is to process the new records ASAP. That means the polling interval should be near the shortest interval between the new records, a second interval. As a result the most of the poll queries would return nothing and would load the database without good reason. If the database is working under heavy payload, it is very undesirable. Do we have other choices? Sure. We can change the polling to the “eventing”. The good news is the SQL server could issue the event in case of new records with triggers. Got a new record –the trigger event is fired. No new records – no the trigger events – no excessive load to the database. The bad news is the SQL Server doesn’t have intrinsic methods to send the event data outside. For example, we would rather use the adapters that do listen for the data and do not solicit. There are several such adapters-listeners as File, Ftp, SOAP, WCF, and Msmq. But the SQL Server doesn’t have methods to create and save files, to consume the Web-services, to create and send messages in the queue, does it? Can we use the File, FTP, Msmq, WCF adapters to get data from SQL code? Yes, we can. The SQL Server 2005 and 2008 have the possibility to use .NET code inside SQL code. See the SQL Integration. How it works for the Msmq, for example: ·         New record is created, trigger is fired ·         Trigger calls the CLR stored procedure and passes the message parameters to it ·         The CLR stored procedure creates message and sends it to the outgoing queue in the SQL Server computer. ·         Msmq service transfers message to the queue in the BizTalk Server computer. ·         WCF-NetMsmq adapter receives the message from this queue. For the File adapter the idea is the same, the CLR stored procedure creates and stores the file with message, and then the File adapter picks up this file. Using WCF-NetMsmq adapter to get data from SQL I am describing the full set of the deployment and development steps for the case with the WCF-NetMsmq adapter. Development: 1.       Create the .NET code: project, class and method to create and send the message to the MSMQ queue. 2.       Create the SQL code in triggers to call the .NET code. Creating the WCF-NetMsmq receive port I will not go through this step in all details. It is straightforward. URI for this receive location should be 'net.msmq://localhost/private/myapp.myqueue'. Notes ·         The biggest problem is usually on the step the “Registering the CLR assembly”. It is hard to predict where are the assemblies from the assembly list, what version should be used, x86 or x64. It is pity of such “rude” integration of the SQL with .NET. ·         In couple cases the new WCF-NetMsmq port was not able to work with the queue. Try to replace the WCF- NetMsmq port with the WCF-Custom port with netMsmqBinding. It was working fine for me. ·         To test how messages go through the queue you can turn on the Journal /Enabled option for the queue. I used the QueueExplorer utility to look to the messages in Journal. The Computer Management can also show the messages but it shows only small part of the message body and in the weird format. The QueueExplorer can do the better job; it shows the whole body and Xml messages are in good color format.

• Activator.CreateInstance fails in Windows Service

  I have an issue with a Windows Service which throws a NullReference exception whenever I try to use var myType = Activator.CreateInstance(typeof(MyType)) There is no problem whenever I run the exact same code in a console window - and after debugging the obvious "which user is running this code" I doubt that it is a mere fact of changing the user running the service as I've tried to run the service using the computer's Administrator account as well as LocalSystem. I'm suspecting a Windows Update fiddling with default user rights but that's a bit of a desperate guess I feel. Remember: The type and assembly exist and works fine - otherwise I wouldn't be able to run the code in a console window. It is only when running in the context of a Windows Service I get an error. The question is: Can I in any way impersonate i.e. LocalSystem in a unittest by creating a GenericPrincipal (how would that GenericPrincipal look)?

  I'm trying to build a GUI window in my application. What I'm trying to do is have a window, with a few buttons at the top, and a large text area. Something like this: +--------------------------------------------------+ | [button1] [button2] [button3] | | +----------------------------------------------+ | | | text area | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +----------------------------------------------+ | +--------------------------------------------------+ I'm almost there, using GroupLayout: layout.setHorizontalGroup( layout.createParallelGroup() .addGroup(layout.createSequentialGroup() .addComponent(button1) .addComponent(button2)) .addComponent(closeWindow)) .addComponent(textarea1) ); layout.setVerticalGroup( layout.createSequentialGroup() .addGroup(layout.createParallelGroup() .addComponent(button1) .addComponent(button2) .addComponent(button3)) .addComponent(textarea) ); The problem is that this ends up with button3 aligned to the left, with the other two. I can't seem to figure out how I can specify the alignment on just that one button. I can do GroupLayout.Alignment.TRAILING on the entire button bar, but that hits all 3 buttons, which is also not quite right. So what's the correct approach? Since the alignment only applies for Parallel Groups, I don't think having a HorizontalGroup with two Sequential Groups in it will help? What am I missing?

  Hi everyone, In my terminal window (using Max OS X) my shell is bash. However when I run a command in PHP via shell_exec or backtick operators I see that PHP is using the Bourne Shell (sh). Here's an example of what I'm seeing: From within my terminal window: $ echo $0 - bash Also if I call php as follows: $ php -r "echo shell_exec('echo $0');" -bash However, if I create a script called test.php with the following: <?php echo shell_exec('echo $0'); ?> And then run test php I get the following: $ php test.php sh I'm wanting to use the bash shell when calling shell_exec - why is it choosing the Bourne shell and can I force it to use bash?   Im writing an ajax web app that uses Comet/Long Polling to keep the webpage up to date, and I noticed in Chrome, it treats the page as if its always loading (icon for the tab keeps spinning). I thought this was normal for Google Chrome + Ajax because even Google Wave had this behaviour. Well today I noticed that Google Wave no longer keeps the loading icon spinning, anyone know how they fixed this?   Hi all, I'm having some trouble with Jquery and JqModal, and I hope you are able to help, since I've been struggling for hours.. Having a single button element with an onclick action running my method "test" (shown below): $('#picture_form').jqm({ajax: '/test.php'}); $('#picture_form').jqmShow(); This will load the ajax content of test.php into my div element picture_form, shown using JqModal as its supposed to! Though when I close this window, and re-clicks the button I'm getting the error: $("#picture_form").jqm is not a function. As a solution I've tried to use the JqModal trigger function, and this leaves me able to open and close the JqModal windows as many times as I want to. Sadly I can only call the 'trigger' using test environment, in my production code I have to open the JqModal window using a function.. Does anyone have a clue why this 'bug' appears when calling the opening when using a function? Thanks in advance

  If I have a DLL (that was built in release-mode) and the corresponding PDB file, is it possible to debug (step-into) classes/methods contained in that DLL? If so, what are the required steps/configuration (e.g. where to put the PDB file)? Edit: If have the PDB file in the same place as the DLL (in the bin/debug directory of a simple console test application). I can see that the symbols for the DLL are loaded (in the Output window and also in the Modules window), but still I cannot step into the methods of that DLL. Could this be the result of compiler optimizations (as described by Michael in his answer)?

• [Rails] Cross Browser Popup size woes

  I need to display certain content inside a popup window, and the body element must be 320px by 300px for styling purposes So I do the following: %p = link_to "Play in popup", popup_podcast_path(@podcast), :popup => ['new_window','height=300,width=320,toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes'] Firefox does exactly what I ask it to do, it displays a popup window, with a page body that is 320px wide and 300px high, so my content fits perfectly inside. But Chrome includes the browser frame dimensions when sizing the popup, which means that the body element is less than the required size.... i.e. if the browser titlebar is 10px high, then this is subtracted from the space allocated to the body element How do I tell Chrome, that I want the body element to be 320 by 300, and that I dont want it to subtract the width and height of the browser frame from body element dimensions It's a bit like the old box-model problem where FF and IE added padding in different ways except firefox adds the browser frame outside the desired 320x300 size, and Chrome is adding it inside
